also sampled in Ashanti's ''Foolish'' in circa 2000-2001
My favorite Debarge song! ❤
Mine as well 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was born in '71. I grew up on this. Love my 70's and 80's R&B!
Yes, me too. I was born in 1971 as well.
'76 and all along growing up around my Dad and one of my Uncles was exposed to so many great songs, artists, groups, genues. Yea I understand that
the year is 1971 .......
This is one of those songs that fit perfectly the time it came out. I remember exactly what was going on in my life at the time this song and album hit, and it always takes me there instantly. I know many songs do that, but for me, this one in particular is a true, significant time capsule. I don’t even think of it as old school as they like to call it now, because it still sounds as fresh as the day it was released, and I certainly feel just as young.
i just read your reply and loved it,this waz before JJ called me MP!!
your comments were so on point!!!!
Yes. The Unsung episode on them is good and tragic!!!
U said not us old school heads. We hate sampling!!! When my son wanted me listen 2 a song he liked. I 4get what song. But I was like no no that’s the Isley Brothers. He was trying 2 argue me down respectfully. Then I put on the record. He was astonished. He started moving his little body. I schooled him the best I could. I think young people want so bad what’s just there’s & want to be in that position of being legendary without the real work & knowing the root of which they grew. They want instantaneous props. Kids in European countries know about the history of black music than young black Americans. It’s a shame because they are missing out. Props to u 4 your journey through the music I always loved & always will🤗
Agree with you completely. If you’re a fan of old school hip hop why wouldn’t you appreciate 80s R&B. I personally love seeking out the original music that’s sampled and finding 80s hits which I now love. I first heard ‘Foolish’ before ‘One More Chance’ and then this gem.
Exactly!
I have all their Albums, they were my favorites in high school, they bad ain’t they !! Listen to share my world and time will reveal by them you will love it !!
YESSSSS THE ORIGINAL....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This isn't a sample, it's called a JACK. The difference between the two is producers like Primo and RZA who sample a track but only take elements from it to add to the overall beat they're cooking up...producers like Puff and Irv Gotti were complete jackers of music. They take the whole thing and just have dudes rap over them with a heavier bassline especially if it was a hit record. Huge difference.
bruh, it's a sample... 'jack' is a negative connotation... it was still done well. a lot of producers prior to Premier and RZA also "jacked" older music and made classics out of them. Ever heard 'Aint No Half Steppin", "You Gots To Chill", "The Symphony", etc? Even Premier and RZA have "jacked" before by the definition you're using.
Puffy was notorious though, I agree, with basically taking a whole track and only maybe pumping the drum sound up a bit and B.IG. or himself etc rapping over it.. Like takin the Police's Every Breath You Take for I'll Be Missing You ( just one example of many by him). I'm not a fan of that. I can dig blending elements or multiple elements of various songs to create your own thing though.
@@thelegendarydowntowntonybr2598 what's your point? It's a jack. So because those earlier artists did some of that it means that it isn't beat jacking? It takes no real talent or skill to do that. Puff was notorious for simply taking a beat whole and doing nothing to it but pay for the sample clearance. The producers I consider to be the most talented and creative, and who push the artform forward, are those that use sampling techniques to build out an original beat made up of different elements and sounds ala Premier, RZA, Bomb Squad, Dre, Alchemist, Pete Rock, etc. What Puff, Irv Gotti, sometimes Trackmasters etc do is just copy and paste. And, yes, I meant it in a somewhat negative way even though I like some where Puff jacked a full song (Cant Hold Me Down, One More Chance remix, Big Poppa, Juicy, etc). But it just got ridiculous in the mid/late 90s where it seems every hit song coming out of Bad Boy was complete beat and hook jack from a popular 80s song.
@@thelegendarydowntowntonybr2598 Naaa, there is a difference. Ain No Half Steppin' has ESG - UFO on top of it. That gives it a different tone. The sample Marly used from "Hard To Handle" is only 5 seconds of the song . The rest of the song is different. "You Gotsa Chill" is the closest one to a jack but it still has "Jungle Boogie" cuts and horns here and there.
@@Israel-nb7ip Yeah, Puff was definitely notorious, so was Biggie.
Their story on the Unsung tv series is so sad. Grew up in a violent household
DeBarge was the musical lick in the 1980s...play some DeBarge alone with your girlfriend and the rest would follow. lol The DeBarge Unsung is crazy how they grew up ni Detroit. Unsung is a very solid series with a lot of episodes on artists that you have reacted to. You should check out Unsung and see what you like as many Unsung episodes have been uploaded onto RUclips.
The Unsung was good but too short needed at least 2 hours !!! The Debarges should be swimming in royalties
Right 😎

I dont know how many times their songs have been sampled, I mean this song alone has been sampled more than a handful of times
That unsung was so sad. I guess Miss Debarge made the wrong choice marrying that horrible creature of a man. The brother Bobby was wrong introducing his siblings to drugs which inevitably killed there career. I didn't enjoy that unsung at all.
Great song from Debarge!!!
big big classic,stanx MM!
The bridge was taken by ne-yo for a song called stay with me on his debut album
It's great to see a young guy like yourself who appreciates the old school music. Keep up the awesome work! I don't know if you've reacted to Time Will Reveal by DeBarge but that's another classic!
You would have had to be in the 1980's to really see what this song did to Debarge fans as we anticipated the release of this Album after All This Love and I like it were on their previous album. We were in awe of this Album!
Mariah sampled this too "Lovin you long time" from her 2008 album E=mc2
Samples rob you of the surprise and spontaneously of the great arrangements, or great instrumentation, or lyrics and singing of the Original song !
Bro I truly recomend you do the full version of switch i call your name its gonna throw you into something but Debarge was the offspring to that group they all are related
I'll check it out!
Nice reaction!! I love this song - everytime I hear it I can't help but sing along!!
2pac sampled Debarge too
An absolute masterpiece! 👏🏽
Probably one of the best UNSUNG...BUT also sad as well...Nonetheless still a great watch
Debarge is my favorite group mark debarge wrote stay withe and El sung the lead vocal and played the piano you have to do a reaction to debarge song im in love with you and El debarge song another chance you'll like those songs👋👋✌✌🙂
💖😀👍 Love DeBarge. The Unsung doc is okay. I recommend Tommy DeBarge's book; it's well written, heartfelt and very detailed.
Yes, me too.
Please review "Time Will Reveal" by DeBarge. That's another one of their best songs.
listen to that young/genius El Debarge jamming on those Keys.
A classic from my youth 👍🏽👏🏽
Well this surprised me as well. Didn’t know this was the sample source 🔥
Amazing how a song on (I think) the B-side of this album could be influential all these years later. So glad for the younger generation discovering this music...
All right..so follow my reasoning on this...in regards to you comments on sampling.. It's like someone telling you about a surprise party for you..in advance of the party.. Then you arrive and they yell "surprise"!!! But you already knew about it, so it's still exciting to experience the party ..but because you knew what was coming.. It takes away what could have been a much more intense experience.... Watching your reactions take me back to when hearing these 70s and 80s songs brought out intense feelings of joy ... Especially when something like "stay with me " by Debarge came out...
Hey Just Jammin'! You should check out Chico DeBarge's 1st CD Long Time No See. React to the whole album. You can put that album on with your love and play it all the way through without stopping it. This CD is FIRE 🔥 🔥. You can also put Maxwell's 1st CD Urban Hang Suite and do the same...play it straight through. Both CD's have AWESOME music and lyrics. You need to go down the rabbit hole with these two CDs. Enjoy the ride. Peace...Be Safe!!!
This song wasn't nearly as popular when the album released as it became over time, first as a music heads fave, then the hip hop sampling. It is simplistic beauty.
Please review songs by their younger brother Chico Debarge. He's underrated. His albums stay in rotation on my phone.
Love your intros/beginning introductions ..😍 grew up with debarge.
Thanks so much!
@@JustJammin u welcome
shout out to the musicians on this jam and Elz Pipes!MOTOWN 4EVER!!
I understand the reaction. Luckily I'm 55 so I knew this song first.
Neyo - Stay with Me also sampled this
What could have been, if not for tragic events in their lives. RIP
Mariah Carey samples it as well.
hi JJ! i replay a lot of you videos so i may have commented on this one before, but can you imagine going to a club and EVERYONE is dressed like this? God, i miss those days!!!
El Debarge..... What can you say
Now you see where Biggie got that beat from lol. All those rappers know how to do is sample......smh
Funny thing about this song is it was never released as a single.
Biggies and Diddy sampled this of course
Check out Jeff Lorbers' "Rain Dance"....to be exposed to another famous sample. You won't regret.
this song iz soooooo Funky!!
Ashanti Also sampled this ( Foolish )
Hey! What you may want to do is, for whatever throwback rap or r&b song you are going to react to, check first to see if they sampled anyone's music. This way you can still have the chance to hear that original song by reacting to it FIRST, then doing the other artist's song after. God bless.
Okay. Okay. I see ya. In my Denzel Training Day Voice. I see you beat me to it again. 😄😝😛
Please check out Zapp, “do you really want an answer?”
It's funny how you listen to the original, but never heard the copy or remix or anything else!!!!! 🤗
Classic
