The DeBarge’s first two albums were produced by Bobby and El DeBarge, after that Elldra Patrick DeBarge aka El DeBarge wrote, arranged & produced , and played most of the instruments as well as did the background vocals on 90% of he and his siblings albums ! El is easily as talented as Michael Jackson and Prince, when it comes to writing, producing, arranging & singing ! El has an 4 octave vocal range. El can play piano, organ, synthesizers, Clavinet, and harspchord , as well as bass and percussions . El DeBarge is a musical genius .
holy what!? i didn't know that, that's really impressive :o (I would also add August Darnell/Kid Creole to the artists you already mentionned)
Bunny wrote most of this
My young brother, I could just see the appreciation on your face.... keep doing your thang
This is why the 70's, 80's and early 90's will always be the best decades of music. "The Golden Era of Music"!
Please don't forget the 60's.
El Debarge did his own production and played the instruments!
yup! I think Iris Gordy is named as a coproducer on this track (berry Gordy's sister)
@@deesee3622 Iris Gordy, Berry Gordy's, Niece.
We need that music back!!!for real for real.
I like time will reveal by Debarge
DeBarge produced and wrote much of their material along with Iris Gordy and Bobby DeBarge of Switch. Playing the guitar solo was Jose Feliciano who was signed with Motown at the time. You should check Jose playing Light My Fire.
I didnt know jose Feliciano was on guitar.
@@wakeupstopsleeping6300 Jose tapped the solo on this one
I just read that Jose Feliciano was on Motown (the feliz navidad guy):)
Guitar solo by Jose Feliciano , great Puerto Rican singer/ guitarist, who is also blind. Debarge had some jams back in the day man.
Wow! I never knew that!! Interesting!
Bobby Debarge was in Switch. DeBarge's lead singer was El.
DeBarge was that deal in the early 80's. Such a talented family that honestly should have been so much bigger than they are. Drug problems, personal termoil and poor management tore them about. El DeBarge made a couple of solo efforts that were also sadly derailed because of his drug and personal issues. Great band though, none the less.
Hands down my favorite DeBarge song. The production is incredible, it does a wonderful job connecting the sounds of the 70's to the 80's. And El's vocals are somewhere in the stratosphere. Sweet Jesus music just doesn't get much better than this.
Revisiting this reaction video a year later, and it does my heart good to see such genuine appreciation from someone of your generation for this music. It truly is first class musicianship and vocalization, and to witness you enjoy it so much the way we did when it first was released puts a big smile on a brother's face. :)
We have got to start calling you the sample trivia king.
Da Brat sampled this as well on a song called "Ghetto love" featuring T Boz of TLC
thats right!
DeBarge is/was EVERYTHING in my childhood!!!! Loved them & their music. El & James collaborated frequently with DJ Quik in later years
A lot of people don't even know who DJ Quik is😂😂
El's Interlude was/is straight 🔥
I always feel so sorry for this family; the abuse they suffered under their father's hands growing up.
El DeBarge has written, arranged and produced 90% of he and his siblings Music . El is also doing most of the background and playing most of the instruments .
Debarge " Love me in a special way" is the song to listen to with Stene Wonder playing on it.
Another favorite song, you don't hear much anymore. When this came out in the 80s, used to love hearing this in a bar later ar night & slow dancing . I love that jazzy sound, kind of like Anita Baker
one of the greatest songs of ALL TIME!!!!
Man bruh... You definitely ahead of the curve on the music reactors... Almost every group or artist I search, I always see your image... Keep that game going mayne
Will do!
DeBarge is the sure shot...you should check out their UnSung episode as they went through a lot of serious drama in their lives.
They had a rough upbringing for sure.
Both of their parents were trash!
@@barbarapearson5896 Explain to me how his mother was trash. Explain to me actually how any human is trash.
@@sereneamani1713 she allowed the beatings and rapes of her children and she hid behind her Christian faith and made excuse after excuse about why she failed to protect her children. Bunny even stated that they couldn't tell their mother certain things because they couldn't trust her not to tell their father. There is so much more about her that I could write a novel. Is this good enough for you? And you haven't lived enough if you haven't met a trash person.
@@barbarapearson5896 , didn’t know this about them. That is so sad.
Some thirty plus years later, I still love this song. Was great being a teen in the 80s!
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 WISE commentary after you listened so closely to this song.
Me being a young 7th grader, you couldn't tell me El wasn't singing to me only! LOL , I had such a crush!
Me too 🤓🤓🤓
I love this song.
Crazy thing is every member of the group can still SANG
Classic! I could always hear Marvin Gaye tearing this song up as well. Well put together song. That acoustic guitar solo by Jose Feliciono is on point.
the jam
El actually wrote this song for Marvin, but Marvin left Motown, so he kept the song for himself.
@@barbarapearson5896 Wow! I didn't know that!!! No wonder I can hear MG all over this.
This music is definitely timeless
One of my favorite songs ever
"C'mon! If you don't love that, you don't love music." 2:35
AMEN Bruh!! :)
I DO love music. What I DON’T love is breaking the mood every time he pauses to comment 🙄
@@Tonabillity - LOL, dude that is the format of a "reaction video". It's to be expected. If you want to listen to music without commentary, then don't watch these reaction channels, just search the original song uploads. "Commentary" is the whole point of this stuff. We, who love music, or grew up with the tracks Just Jammin' (and the like) are reacting to, already know the songs quite well and are more than familiar with their 'mood'. But what we react channel fans enjoy (in this context) is to witness how a new generation appreciates the music, learning about the artists, and yes, "expressing" how they feel about it. Nothing wrong with that. :)
@@WhitebrowpriestHa! I guess that's "your" reaction to "my" reaction of a reaction video. I appreciate his reaction videos as well. I just sometimes wish that the attention span of today's generation was a tad healthier.
For instance, I watched a girl react to a "Who's on First" comedy routine a while back. As you know, it's almost impossible to comprehend that particular routine, even if you're paying 100 percent full attention. Her stopping to react every few seconds, (predictably) made it an exercise in futility. The punchlines left her clueless.
I must say, one thing that I dig about "Just Jammin'" is that he truly takes the time to consider feedback. He gave my suggestion a "like" and I feel that he's gotten much, MUCH better since I made that comment. I think the fact that he's so coachable is precisely what makes him stand out from all the rest! I appreciate your feedback, and will consider your point of view as well.
One of my favorite DeBarge songs. Love their music
The guy in the blue shirt El Debarge in the group picture above wrote the majority of the songs for this family related group. All five are brothers and a sister. They also had another four brothers and another sister for a total of 10 siblings. In R&B slow jams they are considered legends. I'm a white music composer and to me they are in my top three groups all-time in R&B music along with Earth Wind & Fire and The Stylistics
Hey JJ... just as a cross-reference - remember that El Debarge was one of the featured vocalists on Quincy Jones' album Back On the Block (song... "Secret Garden") that you reviewed recently. Not saying that you forgot... but the "intertwinings" and collaborations of artists from the catalog of "real good soul/R&B music" is endless lol!
This is my favorite DeBarge song. I love everything they have done but for me this is everything.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Brings to mind... hearing it during a beautiful afternoon 7th inning stretch, at an Atlanta Braves game,. I think that was when I first heard, and fell in love with the song.
Debarge are definitely up there. They were and still are ALL THAT!
Likewise ☺
11/24/2020
El DeBarge did the production. He is a musical genius!
Always Love This One .... R&B Classic!!!!!!
YES,I grew up on this!
The music from about 1976 to 1990 had the best ballads, and the funkiest grooves. That's why Silk Sonic is so awesome, they're a throwback to 1980 with amazing talent. You always choose great songs to react to, and your appreciation of the music is so fun to watch.
*1970’s for silk sonic
💕 My FAVORITE love song of all time! You just made my 2020 a little more tolerable 😊I'm so glad you reacted/enjoyed this classic 🎶!!!
Meeee too! That ending is the best!
Their best song! Especially the last part that ends in a different way! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The summer of '83...
These guys are just great. Nice reaction. El DeBarge hits those crazy notes. Such a talent.
El Debarge the lead singer produced this song with Iris Gordy who is Berry Gordy's niece. Berry Gordy is the founder of Motown records
One of my favorite songs!!!
This song was my absolute jam back in the day!!
"If you don't love that, you don't love music" FACT!
This song was my favorite I grow up listening to debarge by grandparents man
They were with Motown Leon Silvers worked with switch at times. I'd like to think he had some part in their production.
Nope, Bobby and El did the production, then El did all the production on their later albums .
Leon was still at Solar Records around the time of DeBarge's run at Motown. He would arrive sometime later.
Pattu LaBelle did the remake of this. Although I love Ms. Patti, I prefer this version. El's falsetto is PLATINUM !!
The recording engineers on this were: Bobby Brooks, Milt Calice, Jane Clark, Steve MacMillan, Barney Perkins and Phillip Walters. ...They are the REAL production on this!
Great song. A small fact on this: that's Jose Feliciano on the guitar solo. Thank you for the reaction!
AZ also sampled this on his cut Problems
Good track
JJ am way, way late seeing this. Hope u not upset I say this. So interesting to watch your reaction given your not being from that generation, not growing up with pop music, not having yet been (based on your statements on other reactions) in a yearning / serious romantic relationship (probably better and mentally healthier for you) yet still wildly appreciative of this song. I have always liked this and your reaction confirms my fondness for it is justified. Thanks very much !
One of the better produced song of the time
One of my all time faves from Debarge.. You should hear Boyz II Men singing this.... Arrrrh Amazing ❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶
Love, love, love me some DeBarge, play them all!
Well Done, Youngsta❤❤❤
One of my favorites
Really enjoying your channel. You are an old soul. I love it.
i remember this from back home in GT(Guyana)
My first real concert in 1982. Thought they were great.
Rapper AZ sampled this beat on the song "Problems" from his 9 Lives album, great song to listen to.
Debarge was a family group that was signed to the Motown label. They could have been more successful but a lot the guys got involved with drugs. They had a few other hits Rhythm of the Night (featured in a movie), I like it, and Dreams(sung by the sister Bunny)
The producers of the album, "All This Love" (2nd studio album) were El DeBarge, Raymond Crossley, Iris Gordy, Curtis Anthony Nolen. Their 3rd studio album, "In A Special Way", was produced by El DeBarge, and most of the tracks on the album were written by either El or one or more of his siblings, including Bunny and James.
JJ-stanx for the reaction,i knew u would dig this jam!this came out when i was in highskoOL and waz played all the time!keep jammin young Man!!
Real music.
El DeBarge was a chip off big brother Bobby DeBarge block. El was an iconic singer from the 80's that stood out when DeBarge the group came into view. Behind the scenes big Brother Bobby was nurturing the group for hitsville Motown. El DeBarge as well as the entire family were seriously gifted in music. Bobby , El and Bunny did most of the productions and arrangements. As well as most of the writing of hits.
Has to be the most sample family to music made.
El Debarge was the writer and producer
This a classic!!!!
8th grade school dance, song was all the rave, without words Erick extended his hand to me. Lights dimmed low we made our way to the floor. It was the first "slow dance" of the evening. During the instrumental he asked, “want to be my girlfriend?” This song is one of my favorites.
Lol I felt that memory and I wasn't even there!😂😂😂
FYI , J the Guitar on this track is none other than Jose Feliciano. You did him on light my fire reaction.
Love the DeBarges. Growing up in the 80s, Michael's falsetto was good, but everyone knew El's was better, perhaps the best! That family's battle with drug addiction hampered their careers, but they seem to be doing good now. 80s R & B was the era of smooth, laid-back, baby-making grooves.
I had this 45 and wore it out!
It was sampled by AZ in one of his songs. Please react to Time Will Reveal and Rythym Of The Night by DeBarge
So lucky 🍀 that I found your channel 😊
Love it so much
Amazing, amazing, amazing!
The Flower 🌹
The god that is el de barge with the great god Jose Feliciano
Did you know el wrote these songs and produced it el debarge originally wrote this song for marvin gaye to sing but he said in the interview the last moment he changed his mind and kept the song for the family 👍👍👍
hear that harmony-OMG! #debarge was at Motown records then
T boz did a sample and the Brat rapped on it
Debarge achieved tremendous success, but man, did certain members of this group pay a price for that success. Unreal.
From what i know they do a majority of their production
El debarge produced most of the records
Motown baby-love Els voice and his sibs can harmonize!
el debarge/debarge/switch in my top 5. love them.
I believe they were under the "Motown" label....correct me if I'm wrong....but I do know the Debarge came before Switch...
Switch b4 DeBarge. 😊
Switch had 2 older DeBarge brothers in the group, Tommy and Bobby RIP to both. So Switch was before the group Debarge.
Sampling, autotune and a corporate stranglehold on artists have resulted in fine music. Who needs melody, harmony, soul or creativity?
WOWWWWW All of this time I thought that DeBarge was HISPANIC........ The DeBarge family are the children of Robert DeBarge, Sr., a white man of French descent, and Etterlene DeBarge (née Abney), a black woman born in Michigan in 1935. They married when Etterlene was 17, a year after the death of her father James Abney, a church choir leader and peanut retailer.
That rumor started because thier mother got remarried to a Puerto Rican man
I thought one more chance was sampled from the Debarge song "stay with me' ::shrug::
Please check out El's Second Chance album from 2010 - every song on there is amazing!!! its one of the best albums I've ever heard
💖💖💖😊👍
This was a truly talented family in the same vein as the Jackson 5.I feel sad that they let drugs and other issues interfere with their sucess.El Debarge had an album "A Second Chance" in 2010 which I thought was very good but it didn't have much success.😢
DeBarge and Switch. Have you reacted to “I Call Your Name” by Switch? Or, “There’ll Never Be?”. DeBarge family members in both bands.
Cool
Please react to cal tjader aquarious
