Well, if I hadn't already read (and adored) this book, I would have dropped everything and read it immediately after watching this. Don't mind me using this to bully everyone I know into reading this absolute GEM of a book. No more words needed, you nailed this presentation. A++++ 🤩🤩
Nice! Almost done empire of the damned, its now officially in my top 3 series of all time bumping ahead of gentleman bastards haha. And easily my fav setting of any series. Thanks again for the rec on this one
I’m so obsessed with this series that I name all my rpg vampire themed characters (from several different video games) after everything from Empire of the Vampire. It has to be one of the coolest worlds ever created and I can’t get enough of it.
Thanks for this video :) I am also in love with this series. Have read it in German and English a few times, cause it just doesn’t get boring. It’s so cute how engaged you are with these books 😊 I totally feel it! Can’t wait for book 3🎉 favorite characters definitely Gabe and Saoirse and favorite quote is the one about books 📖🥰
I finally got around to reading book one and I loved it! Finished it yesterday. I’m pretty sure I got it because of your review. Great video! I feel like I have been waiting for a gritty vampire novel forever 😂
I just finished The Empire of the Damned and am hanging out for the third one. 💜 Too many favourite characters. Love that Jay was born and raised here in Perth, even though he doesn't live here now. It was the major reason I gave him a go.
Solid video, more spoiler-free recommendations please! Will begin reading this series based off your recommendation after I finish the Riyria Revelations series. Which is also only started based off your recommendation.
Ever since playing Legacy of Kain all them years ago, and watching the Underworld movie series, I've been desperate for a quality dark/gritty vampire book series with a strong plot... they are so incredibly rare, if they exist at all... but Jay Kristoff nails it.. I really hope that he expands on the trilogy, either extends the series or creates a new plot in it.. do some novella's. So much thought has been put into the world building and types of vampires etc that I don't want to say goodbye to it after a trilogy.
Dropped everything, ran, fell arse over tit as soon as I saw you drop this. I haven't even watched it yet, and I think this might be my favourite video that you've ever made 😅
Probably a week\two away from starting the second book. I'm beyond excited!! I just got both books from amazon yesterday, and they look stunning on the shelf. I gotta ask though - why is the sequel so much smaller? page count is fairly similar, which made me a little confused. i hope that doesn't mean less art because i looove looking at the art, it's so atmospheric. anyways thank you for putting me onto this series, i love love love it :)
Better prose than Hobb and Erikson??? 😂😅 Lol That's quite a statement. I really enjoyed this review & you have convinced me to give it a try. I was always a bit hesitant because I heard that it is very edgy, angsty & over the top which I am not a fan of.
@@crystalsingh7325 Don’t get me wrong, those two have brilliant prose, I could and will make a video raving about Hobb. But Kristoffs prose is the best, Janny Wursts very close behind with the other two.
@SpacedOutWizard I'm down for anything involving the empire. And yes, it is. I never thought I would fall in love with an unfinished series this much it's fantastic. Only other authors i love this much is john gwynne and joe abrocrombie (probably butchered that) and of course the King himself Stephen.
It’s just so good, need an extra fix spoil yourself with the audio books from Libby (free) the narrator (s) are next level. I reckon those who love this would actually love a much older and just as dark series The Black Jewels Trilogy, by Anne Bishop. Similar darkness, humour, heart breaking stuff, and revenge. If anyone needs something else to tide them over. For another aussie author with similar snark try JC Rycroft, she even has a novella for free to check out the style … A Hired Blade. Love love love when art work is included. Though I do hate when Waterstones send out appalling qualitiless special versions filled with ink smears, damaged covers, damaged sprayed edges, damaged spines so opt for the other special editions. They said their replacement copies were also filled with ink smears !!!! But did offer me a £2 credit note 😳 One of the specials has colour illustrations, can’t remember which but I will be waiting for that one for book 3 ❤ Plus Jay is just an awesome person
When the trilogy will be completed im failry convinced it will be the best trilogy of all time however it's only 2 books for now so Kristoff is my 6th favourite fantasy author ! :D
@SpacedOutWizard they are only 2 books........ 🤔 Wheel of Time has 14 + the Prologue New Spring.First Law has 10 books,Stormlight will have 5 soon,Banished Land's Tales has 7 books etc.... Quantity beats qualiity, more epic moments imho 🙏
Yea maybe, but I could just listen to EotV & EotD on repeat all day and still be smiling and laughing at the humour. The prose is delicious and the characters are just people I want to spend time with. Unbeatable reading experience.
