Most people already know that Toads are poisonous but do you know where they actually store their potent toxins? It is not simply in their skin like a poison frog but is actually contained near the base of their heads in what is called the parotoid glands.
What is even more fascinating, is that it is said that these glands are actually capable of spraying this toxin when they are squeezed or bitten by a predator. To demonstrate this effect Coyote Peterson will gently manipulate the glands of an invasive Cane Toad to not only show you what the poison looks like but also to see if it really does spray!

@@livingweaponnightmare they are kinda cool. There are plently of people who keep unusual pets, like snakes, spiders, rodents or toads. I also have a cane toad, it's a very funny animal. Not the most fascinating one, but still, I love watching it eat, hope and soak in water. They are horrible pests in some parts of world but we don't have them here and they are kind of an exotic animal for us.
@@miaumiaumiau000 I try to understand and even be kind to them, but they're horrific pests where I am and have confirmed killed 2 of my dogs. I don't want to harm them but I don't want them anywhere near me either.

Finally I don’t have to travel farther than my backyard to find one of the amphibians on Brave Wilderness.
I live in Australia and I remember as a kid me and my friends used to pick these fellas up and play cricket with them. Good stuff

Just a question because I'm not sure. Does the Toad Poison/ Toxic affect Human skin or you just have to Swallow it or get them in your eyes so it takes affect? Also I'm not sure if it's effect or affect so just answer the question please xDD

+Alexandra Olsen They were originally from Guyana over 100 years ago, then they spread to Puerto Rico and other countries in the region. This was through countries *intentionally* introducing it into their populations. This was done to curb beetles that were threatening the sugar cane crops. The same was done in the Hawaii and the Philippines. They were then introduced into Australia for the same reason. However, where they were successful in eliminating other beetles in other countries, they were unsuccessful in reducing the population of the grey-backed beetles in Australia and have since had an adverse affect on the predatory lizard populations. So even though they aren't technically invasive because they were brought to Australia intentionally, they have since become a problem that has no natural solution.

I love toads, I got 2 in a big container/clear bin with dirt and rocks and grass and water, this is good to know what exactly they do to do this, so far they been good expect the bigger one peed on my hand a few times but I thing it's getting used to me now, I rub it's back and it just sits there and the smaller one once peeked out from under the rock burrow and looked up when I came out of the house to check on them, they seem to like going in the burrow I made for them and sit together it's cute to watch them

One of my closest friends from high school moved here from Colombia. He told a story that as a kid he got poison from a toad in his eyes and went blind for like 2 months. He was terrified of frogs and toads since then and we used to chase him around with toads. Being in Wisconsin we didn't have to worry about getting hurt, but he used to freak out.
Nearly all amphibians are toxic, no matter where you live. Be careful. If you started rubbing them into your eyes, you might have had the same problems.
