In this video, I will show you how to check the battery health report in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Windows has a built in feature that lets you create a detailed report and view it in your browser about the health of your battery. The report gives you a full report about the battery type, battery capacity, charge capacity, battery drain report, and battery life expectancy report. I will also show you how to get a full battery energy report.

I work for an IT refurbisher, the most reliable battery manufacturer we have found is Greencell, they're a Polish firm and their QC processes are solid. We have never had a bad battery from them and none of the systems we have installed them in has ever thrown an error or warning re compatibility.

I have an i5 older Laptop with a removable battery, in the house, I mostly use plug in power and remove the battery. If you use a laptop on battery to watch YT etc on a regular basis, that battery is going to take a beating and won't last long. This why companies don't make easy to remove batteries, because they know most people will just go and by a whole new Laptop once the battery is done. quality batteries cost large, cheap batteries are no good.

Good video Brian has answered a lot of questions that have been bothering me for some time because I hardly ever use my laptop on battery power hence I keep the power lead permanently plugged in. I am just wondering what you think as I have seen some articles that say this is bad practice for LiPo batteries but after two years I have had no problems. The machine is an Asus Vivobook X715F and it seems to have its own power controlling system in place. I shall certainly try your command prompt way of getting a report so that I can see how my battery is performing. Plus I think your advice on buying a named or original brand battery is good as that is what I have always done.

Thank you very much for this video. I have a similar problem. I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 that works very well, except that brand new batteries are not charging at all. I can see that the battery, bought with about 60% charge doesn't charge, but loses about 2% per day. Is there an economical repair? I have run the diagnostic software, but the result is that the motherboard is fully functioning. Thank you, all the best.

I have a Sony Vaio that has the option to set the charge level to 50% or 80% full charge when running mostly plugged in. After 12 years, using it 99% of the time plugged in, the battery still works like new when I set it to fully charge and then use it as a portable.

@@anxiousearth680 They don't make laptop batteries like they used to. These newer internal flat cells seem very prone to aging and heat damage. I've seen a lot of them puff up even after 3 to 4 years, and can push the touchpad out of the case, even on older MacBooks. I liked those older cylinder batteries. The health just seemed to last a lot longer, and were very very easy to change.

That's an impressive lifespan for a laptop and for its battery too!
My previous laptop was used 8-10 hours nearly every day and had a hard life - including regular trips outside in minus 30-40 degree (Celsius) temperatures and a couple of "spills" when I slipped over on ice with it, yet it still gave me 7 years of reliable use. It really pays to look after a laptop, my current HP laptop is about 4 years old and looking and performing as new (including the battery) but I'd consider myself incredibly lucky if it lasts 12 years - like your Sony Vaio!
3-4 years ago I had to spend 2 weeks on a Mediterranean island to help teach/train a colleague working for my then company. She was working off a borrowed laptop because her previous one (a quality brand) only lasted 18 months........ She should have followed Brian's recent advice about how to clean a laptop - instead she'd taken a hoover/vacuum cleaner to her laptop (to clean it!!!!) which had sucked at least 2 of the keyboard's keys off it....!
If you look after your stuff - generally it looks after you.....

if you use a laptop do not use it all the time when plugged in to the power, you need to use the battery to keep it healthy, if it is only ever used when plugged in it is best to just remove the battery or accept that it won't last long when you need it.

I have a 4 year-old HP 15-ba series laptop. Essentially, I use the laptop from the mains power with the battery removed - and have done this since the laptop was purchased brand new. I only insert and use the battery when I'm travelling or needing to work from another location. Consequently, as long as you use a sensible power setting and screen brightness for the device (and don't watch RUclips videos all day), the battery will still power the laptop for a full 8-hour working day - much like when I bought the laptop 4 years ago.
