    Years and years ago, my dad told me it was important to fully discharge a laptop battery once every few months or so. Supposedly, it helps keep the battery in good condition for a much longer period of time. It's nice to know there are still people out there teaching the importance of battery health!

    • @stephenwakeman3074
      @stephenwakeman3074 Год назад +11

      As battery materials have changed over time, this is no longer the case. Modern batteries last longer when kept with less variable charges. As in, they are kept best condition by avoiding being charged to 100% and discharged to 0%. Although there is no consensus, the user will keep the battery in best condition by not charging above 80% and not discharging below 20%.

    As for my laptop battery it's sitting at 83% after 3 years with 275 cycles (bought my laptop in 2020) and honestly I'm not surprised it's still above 80% given the age of when the battery was manufactured

    Hello, Dave I've been using a computer since the late 90s as well. My first computer was a Packard Bell PB 620CD cost around $1,000 at WalMart. I'm self-taught and can repair and troubleshoot PCs, Laptops. I also was Slot Tech at our Tribal Casinos. My first OS was Windows For Workgroups 3.1 with DOS 6.1. • @EasyPcRepairs

      80% is fine. It's difficult to say when the average battery will fall to 80%. A 3 month old computer that has a battery with 80% health left isn't good, but a 3 year old PC with 80% is ok (just as a very rough guide).

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  5 месяцев назад

      New laptops will have a few power cycles as installing Windows requires computer restarts. Some compaies also install extra apps which may have required further power cycles as each app was installed. Any testing of the laptop can require restarts too. So my guess is that your laptop hasn't been used by anyone else.

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  Год назад

      67.4% battery health isn't great but also isn't terrible either. As for your charging problem, sometimes dust in the power port on the laptop can stop the power cable staying in. Try removing any dust from the power port. Another typical problem of laptops not always charging is an internal loose connection.

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  Год назад

      I think you're probably right. A three year old laptop battery's health has normally come down at least a little. Then again, some laptop batteries start at 104% health. So maybe your battery's health has come down, but only to 100%. Then again (again), if your battery is supposed to last for much longer then the battery health reading could be wrong.
