    The best Bambino version in my opinion. Such a great looking timepiece. Really just wish Orient didn’t plaster “Water Resistant” on their dress watches. It’s not only aesthetically unappealing but it’s unnecessary. If you’re gonna put anything at the 6 o’clock position of the dial just put that awesome cursive “Automatic”

      My favorite are the Japanese watches that - in the interest of keeping the dial visually balanced, just say "Water Resist"

    It's such a cliché, but seriously folks, if the phrase "much nicer than it looks in pictures" can be applied to any watch, it's the Orient Bambino (all versions). Trust me on this: I now have 3 of them!

    One thing that surprised me about reviews of this watch is everyone misses how nice the thing REALLY is: no one opens it.
    Almost the first thing I did when I received my Ver 2 Gen 2 was remove the caseback. This thing has a metal spacer and a caseback movement spring.
    I've never seen a modern, sub-$800 watch with a metal spacer. In fact, the only metal spacer I've ever seen in a modern watch is the spacer in a gold Concord Nine I inherited...and that spacer is literally gold.
    The (aluminum?) Bambino spacer holds the movement and dial and instead if being clasped to the case or just being held in place by its size, there's a +- 30mm diameter spring that sits in a slot in the caseback and pushes the spacer towards the crystal.
    In other words: this movement has full-movement shock protection which I've never even heard of, before. Usually, only the balance is protected with an incabloc jewel setting.
    The Bambino is stunning for the price.

    I like your review. Fair enough, 21 mm strap is a disadvantage. I had to squeeze 22 mm soft leather strap to fit. 100% agree with you. I think, top features of the watch are dial, domed crystal, and price.

    "Genuine" is not a grade of leather, merely a statement of its origin. "Bonded" leather would be the lowest grade; it is made from leather scraps, compiled and compressed into a new form.

    Thanks for posting this video Bruce I have found it very interesting indeed. I live in the UK and have only found out about Orient watches over the last 12 months from videos on Long Island Watch and Urban Gentry. Because of those reviews I have since purchased two Orient watches, a Orient 3 star model FEM0401RU9 which is a great value watch which I purchased on Ebay UK. The 2nd watch is a Orient Neo 70's Panda Solar powered chronometer watch which is a Japanese import, both watches I got for less than £200 Sterling in total and both brand new and not second hand and came with full international guarantees, they are incredible timepieces. I look forward to seeing more of your videos as I have now subscribed to your channel.

    Comment late but I have only had this watch for 1 month
    No negative points for the watch itself .. quite the contrary because it is COSC !!! indeed mine delays 1 second per week !! (when worn all the time)
    As for the bracelet, it is not of superior quality .. and since it is quite easy now to find 21 mm wide bracelets ... I replaced it
    Thank you for your review which made me decide to buy this watch (146 euros)

    I love that Orient Bambino. For me its not too big for dresswatch but yes could be a bit smaller. My fave is the Roman Numeral one. there are many versions/gens of Bambino, a bit confusing. I'd like a white dial one with Roman numerals. Sapphire is not a must. Hardlex for example is excellent, I havent gotten any marks pretty much.

    Own the same bambino for 2 years. The biggest minus in my opinion is weight and the noise of the rotor. It’s simply too light compare with other solid watches. On the other hand when i choose the watch for the day - champagne dial and domed glass just conquers the heart.

    Wish I'd got a baton markered version like yours. It's much more Dean Martin / Frank Sinatra than mine.
    21mm is the lug width I've ended up liking the best. My Longines Hydroconquest and ivory / rose gold / roman numeral Bambino have 21mm. 20mm looks and feels a bit too puny and insubstantial to me. I have 22mm Seikos too but I look down at my 21mm ones when they're on, especially the Hydroconquest bracelet, and think 'that just looks totally right'. It's funny what a difference 1 or 2mm can make. Can't imagine why it's only the even number sizes that are more common and 'standard'. Straps aren't hard to find, either. Not when there's eBay.

    What's the difference between mineral and sapphire crystal ???
    Tell me ,,, do tell me

    • @bwacuff169
      @bwacuff169 4 года назад +1

      Basically, strength and resistance to scratches. Mineral is a strong, standard-ish glass. Sapphire is an artificially grown sapphire. The average collection of watches a person has - if they own more that a couple watches - usually has an example of both...just by pure chance.
      And if you're aware of that situation existing in your collection, more likely than not, you're going to notice the superiority of sapphire over mineral. It's often very obvious: you'll have a big scratch or whatever combination of shallow/deep and short/long scratches on a mineral crystal but a sapphire you've used just as long may not have a mark on it at all.
      I personally think that - other than being significantly less expensive - there's no point to mineral crystals. The far more meaningful choice is between sapphire and acrylic....Acrylic is much more fragile and picks up scratches easier however you can polish it with some pretty hardcore polishes like Simichrome or Pikal, and polishing cloths (like Cape Cod or Sunshine) and it will appear to develop a subtle, very natural glow when it’s in light. Especially sunlight. How they differ can be seen in window glass: modern glass will be crisp and let a lot of untouched light through as opposed to leaded windows in older homes which will sometimes have pronounced ripples and other flaws that scatter more light, which can make a room feel more “warm” or “less crisp.
      Acrylic is generally best to avoid in “working/professional” watches like diver’s or pilot’s watches but it’s fairly common in vintage dress and casual watches and when well maintained can make a well designed dial look amazing. Also, acrylic crystals tend to be domed and thus can focus light in different ways, adding to the glowing effect. Sapphire crystals are mostly flat and don’t do that. And if you’re diving, you don’t want a crystal playing games with the dial you’re trying to read.
      This all reminds me: I can’t be the only person the boredom of this covid isolation crap is turning into a verbose monster (or making sound like a possible serial killer) when posting on the internet…

    I have bought a Shanghai Diamond 38 mechanical watch with a beautiful dial and a domed Acrylic Chrystal.
    Hand wind and very accurate.
    £45.
    I had a v4 Bambino with a domed mineral crystal.
    I never dared wear it for fear of scratching it. Sold it and wouldn't buy another.

    The V3 has 21mm lugs.
    My version 4 has 22mm and the strap is not shiny like yours so it's ok

    One question: Did you put it on a 21 mm aftermarket strap or 20? cause I've always heard you are able to pull it off with a 20mmpretty well.

    Negative points: 1. The fucking ugly frame line around the date window. 2. Water resistent text. 3. 19 mm strap

  • @aaae3105
    @aaae3105 3 года назад

    please tell me, does the date change exactly at midnight instantly or within a few hours? And how loud is the self-winding rotor audible? Also, is there a protection against spring re-winding? Is the rotor bi-directional or unidirectional? Are they anti-magnetic or not?

    • @ahmeto.513
      @ahmeto.513 3 года назад

      Not instant. Within a few hours. Rotor is a little loud. You can hear it sometimes. Yes, you can't overwind it, there is a protection mechanism which is mentioned in the manual.
