The Best Dress Watch For Under $130 EVER! - Orient Bambino Automatic Version 3 Full Review

  • A few months ago, I saw a great video by the much respected fellow vlogger and style expert Aaron "Alpha M" Marino about his choice for an affordable quartz dress watch for under $140. Well, I thought I would put forward my recommendation and it just so happens to coincide with a recent re-lease of a legendary highly respected watch from Orient. Not only is their newest version of the Bambino under $130, it boasts a completely in-house mechanical automatic movement and in my opinion the most refined styling of the series yet.
For the best service within the USA, certified Orient authorized dealer and my personally most trustworthy seller I wholeheartedly recommend checking out Long Island Watches....

Three days ago, I was one click away from buying a Daniel Wellington. That one click was me watching my first TUG video. Today my perspective on watches has changed drastically, and I'm planning on buying a Bambino Open Heart as my first watch ever. Thank you TGV.

medhat nour am glad not longer dominated by this addiction which it cost me thousands of dollars , I had up to 130 watches different brands from luxurious to respectable brands , ended up selling all my collection, lost tons of money ,and some I give a way. truly it's an addiction was not easy to stop buying , anyways just don't let this addiction ruin you, first you would think it just a hobby then it will turn to a none stop buying just watches .

Tarek this i probably worst case scenario, but when you have the mindset to just buy a preselected amount of watches and stop buying watches when you reached that amount. Then you just have to focus on the awesome time pieces you own, be proud of it and enjoy it wearing. I am really into watches (btw I am 16), but you always have to keep in mind that these are just watches and not something you need to keep you alive like food or a warm place to sleep when it’s cold outside. I own a 250€ Candino and a 1190€ Longines Hydroconquest Automatic 41mm (this is very much for my age) but I really enjoy those watches and I am totally fine with it. Now I am proud having those awesome time pieces and don’t have the urge to buy more. But I still wouldn’t say no when someone wants to gift me a submariner :D.
Keep on and have a nice day, sorry for some grammar or spelling mistakes - Greetings from Germany.

I just got the 2nd gen Bambino Ver. 3, and it is a stunning watch in person. The sunburst and the way the domed crystal reflects on the dial is truly something to behold. It looks and feels more expensive than it actually is. Got it for only $120 off of Ebay. Would highly recommend it. The only real downside is the mineral crystal, but it hasn't caused me any issues yet.

I've just purchased a beautiful orient bambino first generation for £93 off ebay. Its beautiful and elegant and I can't wait to wear it. I could have spent that money on a 'designer' garbage watch but no way! I've bagged myself a beautiful watch. Oh it has a WOCCI strap as well. Well chuffed. I have young children and it's a tight budget, I'm just pleased there amazing watches like this one can still purchase at a realistic price point for me. Excellent!! Thanks for the fantastic reviews Urban Gentry 👍🏻

Great review, TGV! :) This third generation Bambino is growing on me. The slate gray is my favorite version as well; looks especially good in this video versus in pictures. Good on Orient for giving us more choices! An average/below average strap is an easy compromise to make for that watch head.

I just ordered the Orient Bambino Version IV with the green face. Ordered it from Long Island Watch Company. I have a decent watch collection and had stopped buying for a while, but getting the itch again. I don't have a Orient so I thought that I would get one based on all the good reviews that I have seen. That green just reached out and grabbed me! It pops! I enjoy your videos. I guess you will hate the Version IV since it is 42mm! I'm a pretty big guy so it will be fine for me. I have watches that are much bigger, but after wearing a lot of different brands and sizes, I have decided that I don't care for the really big watches. 42mm is about as big as I'm willing to go. At least this version is hackable and can be hand wound! I'm glad of that.

That watch is really reminiscent of the 1950s-60s and is certainly affordable. That said, I just measured two similar looking originals, a Hamilton and a Longines, and both came out to under 36mm. The bands on the period pieces are both only a tasteful 16mm. Honestly, the originals look large enough. One can't blame a company for making what sells, so it's probably my taste that's in the minority. Not the first time...

I sell and buy on eBay, mostly collected now wanting to trade all for a few nice, so this year, I finally got my first automatic, it’s better than I thought it would be!im glad I watched a lot of your videos before buying an invicta! Haha. (I did pick up a new 24j green dial invicta, afterwards!! It was New Years sale. New watch on Joma shop. Thank you!! Love that shop. I’ll be watching, you’ve been my favorite on here so far, in route now after though, new green version thanks to you I picked up a white dial Orient Bambino !! Generations 2 version 3. Beautiful. Just happened upon your video today. Very well done. In fact, it prompted me to retrieve my FER24009W0 (2nd gen two tone white dial) from my dresser, shake it a few times, set the time and "buckle up".From personal experience, I agree that the Orient Bambino line is an excellent introduction to mechanical watches and collecting for the uninitiated. I received mine as a gift and was immediately struck by the Bambino's understated elegance and quality. It piqued my interest, prompting me to explore watches further.Prior to receiving the Bambino, I had never heard of Orient or, for that matter, paid attention to watches. I usually owned only one working watch at a time, always quartz, and would wear it everyday until it failed. Then, get a new watch and start the cycle all over. The Bambino changed that, my wife might say not in a good way. To paraphrase another watch reviewer (Thank You, Jeffrey McMahon), the Bambino was my "gateway drug" to watch collecting.Nowadays, I rarely wear the Bambino, saving it for occasions when I want to wear a nice dress watch. My typical daily watch is one of my dive watches which better fits my active outdoor lifestyle in FL.Because the Gen 3 is now out, I will probably purchase the FER2400CN0 before they vanish. I've always felt that the cream dial and blue hands are a stunning combination. Thanks for an entertaining and informative video.

Well, after watching your video last week, I jumped on the internet and purchased an Orient Bambino version II in blue. I have around 50 watches in my collection, focusing on vintage Elgins, Hamilton, Carel, Acme, etc. They're not outrageously expensive but very classy. I even have some unusual Acta's from the 60's that I've had trouble getting Information about. Well, to get to my point...This Orient is really awesome! I agree with everything you had to say about. So glad I watched your video.

I ordered the grey version of the Bambino V3 after watching this review. I received it today and am absolutely happy with the looks and the comfort on my wrist.
I'm not in a hurry to change the strap because the dull black leather is a good offset to the elegant sheen of the grey dial.
Your're introduction calls this a entry level model to automatic watches. Just for reference, I own several Rolexes, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and several other prestige brands.

Orient was my first watch and I swear by the brand. When I first saw this watch on the Internet, I dismissed it because of the price (yep, cos its so cheap). When I saw it a few days ago with my own eyes - man! the watch is so attractive and sleek! - and so undervalued... Id like to get one but Im thinking if Id actually wear it. I just love my Recraft and use it as my dress watch now... Btw, Bambino reminds me of old Prim watches which my grandad wears. I agree with the recommendation.

Nowadays my daily attire is shorts and t-shirt 😂😂😂. Anyway you sold me and I am going to pick up two but I am choosing the one with the roman numerals in kaki and black for my rare occasion when I wear suits. Best regards. BTW love all your vids. Very classy.

Just love these watches. After "re-setting" my collection (starting to collect mechanical watches) last summer I got two of these, a white dial, and a black dial. I've now gotten the white dial version on a gorgeous light brown strap, and that watch frequently gets compliments. When I got the Bambinos I was coming from a 46 - 48mm watches (something I find laughable today), so the 40mm's of the Bambinos felt much better. After purchasing a 39mm 70's diver, a 36,5mm 70's Omega Geneve with a steel bracelet, and a 34,5mm gold '67 Omega Geneve. I do agree that the Bambinos are a bit on the larger side, and also think that 38mm's would be perfect. Since I'm not a huge guy I think my perfect size in watches is 36 - 39mm's. Still though, I'm never gonna sell the Bambinos, I just love them too much.

I've become a total watch fanatic. I already have 3 watches, recently ordered a 4th with an additional strap. Now I'm also eyeing the seiko sndc89p2 as well as the brown/white orient bambino gen 2 v3. As a student I don't have all the money in the world and I don't want watches to become something common for me so I think I'd better wait a while between each watch, but man, channels like this one make me want to buy the watches immediately

This is the perfect entry level watch... I get compliments on mine all the time. I have one with the roman numerals, I swapped the strap out for one of higher quality. I do believe that with a nicer strap and if there was a 38mm version with sapphire glass it would compete with more high end watches in terms of quality and build. This watch honestly feels like youre wearing a $1000 watch for under $200..

I fully agree with you on the quality of the Orient Bambino and I own two of them in different colours. Another watch that I came across that impresses me hugely at around the same price point is the Sea Gull M186S Designer Vintage Watch out of China. It is an automatic and I bought it online through Aliexpress for about $115 US. (I'm Canadian so I am converting to a more common currency). This is an amazing watch. It is a bit smaller at 38 mm and the classic vintage styling is just amazing in real life. The finishing is superb. It is the watch that has impressed me the most out of my last 5 purchases. Sea Gull is a respected Chinese brand and has entry level watches and watches costing several thousand with their own original designed tourbillon. They were the first Chinese watch company. Their watch parts and movements are in 25% of the worlds automatic watches. As a dress watch I find this watch an incredible value and recommend it highly. You should check it out. It comes in different versions but I purchases the white dial with black strap version.

I just bought a Bambino (white dial silver case) Version 3 bauhaus minimalist look. I have wanted the White dial after I bought the Grey dial which I love but the white was Sold Out, but finally got one recently and to my surprise it had a different movement, instead of the Orient Cal 48743 it came with the F67 movement That has hacking and hand-winding!! I have seen this is the movement in the new V4 bambinos. And have also noticed that some of the older models V1,2,3 are being sold with the new F67 movement. I don't now why? and its not advertised so you have to dig a little to see which ones come with the new movement. But I have to say a Bambino that Hacks and Hand winds at $130 is unbelievable I really like this! Just wanted to share this. Thanks TGV and I'll keep watching.

I got it on Ebay, Unfortunately they are Sold Out again. The white/silver model FER2400MW0, its hard to find them sold at regular price usually they jack up the price to $200-300. If you want (hack and hand wind) look for bambino's with model such as FAC0000-XX the AC is the new F67 movement and a great upgrade. Also I do love the Grey personally it looks great on a Brown Crocodile Strap, but I think the white is more desired they are both Fantastic, I'm so tempted to buy Black/silver but I already have 4 dress watches and have to stop for a while. Good Luck on your Bambino.

Owned a Bambino. Gave it away to a friend. Now I have an Orient Capital. It is better looking than the Bambino, with a more subtle, clean logo -- no cheesy crest. The Capital is quite a bit thinner, at 7mm. It has a cleaner day date that does not obscure the 3 o'clock marker. I also found that the rose gold dial markers are much better match to the case on the Capital than on the Bambino. As for the claimed 40 hr power reserve for the Bambino, I think that's nonsense. I wore the Bambino all day and it wouldn't run all night long. Overall the Capital is better looking, much thinner, noticeably more comfortable to wear. Unless you are a snob who needs an automatic, get the Capital. The Bambino seems clunky by comparison. The Capital is really a superb Quartz watch. I got mine in Rose gold finish for $99 on Amazon. I don't miss my Bambino at all. I got tired of setting the time on it and it felt overly large thick and clunky..

So I'm one of those people who researches products, right after he impulse buys one. I gotta say, my white dial, just like the one there, does hack. But, the strap you showed is even better than the one I got. So combine the fact you need to immediately replace the strap, with the fact Orient uses an oddball lug width, makes kind of a consideration. It would look good on a stainless bracelet, but there's a limited selection at 21 mm.

Excellent review. I'll probably settle on buying a gray-dial one. This'll fill my need for a better-quality dark-faced watch, with something that won't have a dead battery if I neglect it. My daily watch is an Autran & Viala Plano Pur (now Plano Aalen), white dial (great quartz watch, by the way, if you like the style of this one and want thinner, at ~$150 shipped). A couple notes: honestly the video is longer than needed (lots of repetition), though the level of detail in thoughts is appreciated. Also, at 12:44 you say "acrylic", which worried me; I looked around, and seems to be mineral (e.g. see Long Island Watch), which is a relief.

To me this is a more affordable alternative to the (already great value) Tissot Visodate. You lose the Swiss movement, hand winding, day complication, sapphire glass, butterfly clasp and the display case at the back. But for quarter of the price this is still fantastic and likely to have a similar impact on your wrist as the Tissot Visodate. I own and love both. My advice is if you are prepared to spend a little more, get the Visodate, if not then the Bambino is so nice.

Iwould argue with the size of the bambinos. I think they are just exactly perfect. Obviously on your wrist might seem to be too large, but in general taking into account the average wrist size, wathces around 40mm are just about perfect. I own 2 bambinos, a Le Locle, which is 39,3 mm, and is a berfect dress watch, but for my wrist, maybe the smallest I feel comfortable with. I own a Frederique Constant from the junior series, with case diameter of 38,5mm and that difference of less than a millimeter is just to much on me, and therefore I dont even really wear them. I mean I love the looks of that watch and keep them in my watchbox, but mostly just borrow them to my dad or Brother... :D

really like the new version. Love the blue but..you need to pay nearly the same again for a good strap! i have recommended orient to all my non watch friends. But for some reason never owned a bambino. i had a 70s King diver which i wish i had not sold. my issue is to many watches that tick the good value auto dress watch (seiko 6138 jumbo, king seiko and weirdly a white face HMT) If people can get over the Japanese v swiss thing there are so many quality (even better) watches out there at half the price. The big thing for me is most Jap watches have in house movements not an ETA (not that ETA movements are bad but they are very common, hence lack bragging rights) Love the channel, thanks for your uploads.
