I've done it on my ford focus mk2 2.0 tdci as kept failing to regen dpf due to exhaust gases not getting hot enough! Well that's what I was told by a dpf specialist since removing it dpf has not failed to do a regen, car has a remap which put it too around 162bhp with dyno graph and its got 195k on the clock
My mpg has gone up about 3-4 depending on how hard i accelerate, my emissions with egr delete are 0.51 and limit applied was 1.50 is good as it had egr it failed emissions but with it off it was around 0.76.
When replacing an injector my friend had a one if them micro cameras to see how bad carbon was there was a lot but nothing much for 194k also intake system is less oilly and no crude so I say its great! I also do around 525 miles a week with car averages 48mpg so I say go for it!

It is not illegal ro remove the EGR, but maybe commiting an offence to use the vehicle with the EGR removed. Put it this way, many wouldn't be able to tell if someone has deleted the DPF, if done right, same applies to EGR, blanking plate, map out and leave the EGR connected. Removal of the EGR actually reduces the amount of soot and an MOT test for a diesel car measures smoke and soot content. I work in the motor trade and EGR's cause so much problems by the fact that they allow carbon and soot to enter the inlet and all the associated pipe work including the EGR itself.

Do a sleeper disable.. Don't delete or remove anything; just disable it's operation at a key point without it being visibly tampered with. If you go to sell the car or need an inspection, re-enable. Personally, if a person is going to run an engine harder because of an EGR choke, wouldn't nearly the same emissions come out, vs having more low end torque and being a little more conservative?

Deleding the EGR or blocking the EGR Pipe to the intake manifold does allways have a positive effect to the engine. Important to know is that the EGR system on all these enginges is only letting exhaust gasses into the intake manifold when you are driving it at partial load range (city) or when the engine is not fully warmed up. EGR is allways closed under full load (highway).
Diesel engines with DPF System dont like to be run only in partial load range, because no DPF regeneration can be run under this conditions. But only at partial load conditions the EGR is active.
And this is one of the main reasons why so many modern engines break down after only some 100.000km. The costs and emmisions produced because of all the addtional repairs and needed spare parts caused by this ERG "nonsens" outweight the emmision benefits of any EGR system BY FAR.

That seems right. Essentially a certain horsepower engine is reduced to a smaller engine by the EGR system. A bigger engine reduced by EGR bottlenecking could essentially be as powerful as your unchoked smaller engine. Why did they make EGR necessary when they could have sold us smaller engines? Seems a ton of material and expense could have been saved, not to mention lengthening the life of an engine without this choking; seems like planned failure and not necessarily smog control.

With a Bmw Diesel put in the best fuel, add some Liqui Moly Diesel boost and clean, change oil every 6000 miles or less, ( so easy to do it yourself ), with LL04 oil 5W-30, get Carly bluetooth obd 2 and do a simple dpf regen yourself when youbgo for a longer motorway run. You'll never have a problem....
If you bought a used Diesel thats just sat in traffic doing short runs remove egr, use vacuum cleaner hose to suck all the crap, spray with brake cleaner, when dry vacuim again and apply then fully service....these engines will do 300,000+ miles easily if properly looked after.

MOT can't tell a difference if the egr is blocked or not. Unles there is some clearly visible missing parts. Or a trouble code. Some dont even mesure NOx. For the effect on an engine. For four different engines, all petrol no diesels. Havent noticed a difference, nothing have changed. Only the intake manifold may be not as full of soot.

@@catalinacatalina1474 Yes, car may try more active and passive regen but due to prerequisites (75 degree above engine temp + 10 ltr fuel plus, certain speed limit for a continuous-time), this can be a recipe for disaster unless you drive only on motorways. The outcome can be blocked DPF and failure. Also, more regen will put pressure on the oil lubricity as exhaust gas temp will raise more frequently above 550-degree celsius. My advice would be keep both EGR and DPF on but maintain them with efficient combustion so that shoot production is less and burn off. If you are interested I can make a video on how to best maintain modern Diesel with the DDE system.

No, DPF will actually be LESS likely to block. EGR is designed to lower combustion temperature and also reduce oxygen levels, however it is difficult to get stoichiometric burn, so with EGR, the exhaust is actually sootier. With full cylinder of fresh air, diesel burns more cleanly hence less smoke,.. and hotter. So your DPF has less soot, is hotter for regen and the turbo should spool up a tiny bit quicker.

Can be deleted with software. Cost around 300 pounds.

EGR Delete will NOT give you any gains at all unless it is blocked up bad. Always software Delete it too as some just do the physical removal.

Alright lads. I’ve got a bmw 120d e87 177bhp. The actuator has snapped off from the egr valve.
    Question is.
If I do a egr delete, Will I need to get a remap done.
    Thanks guys
Ps it’s also having a new clutch and flywheel fitted In a few weeks. I was thinking of getting her to stage 1.

It should only operate below 1500 rpm. The problem is short journeys and stop start traffic. Only get a diesel if your regular driving is more than 10 miles and you can get over 40 mph. Anything slower or shorter doesnt let the exhaust get hot enough to not have carbon build up.
Saying that, the attempt to reduce pollution by making you have to clean it out anyway is rather stupid.
