Excellent video - very helpful. I was able repair my EGR valve after watching this. The motor housing has 5 point security torx which must have a non- standard centre pin as it was too large to fit my torx bits. Ended up cutting a slot in them and replacing with regular M4x20mm bolts. The cogs and valve arm were badly clogged up but after cleaning everything is working as it should.
Thanks for sharing your experience, that's the way to help others ✌️ I did the same with those torx screws, replaced them regular torx 👍 All the best 🤠
@@bmwsolutions7880 TP20H bit is what you needed - my valve wasnt very dirty inside but the cogs werent moving smoothly so I gave it a clean and manually moved it back and forth until it started to spring back properly. Fingers crossed it all works when I put it back now. Never touched any mechanical job on a car before!
Thanks for the great video instructions, I love your channel. It will be amazing in the future if you can do a video on DIY cleaning the intake manifold and intake valves as they get a lot of carbon deposits and deteriorate performance and I hear the swirl flaps get loose and can break off and pieces can go in the cylinders. I have the B47 engine, but I think it's pretty much the same for others.
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad my videos helping the community ✌️ Cleaning the intake manifold is on my list but waiting for the car to reach around 60000 miles. Then I'll definitely find a way to clean it as I don't want to use walnut blasting, but rather simple tools that any diy person can do. All the best 👋
@@bmwsolutions7880 thank you, that's some amazing stuff. I've seen somewhere where people have had good results using pipe cleaning brushes and carb cleaner and a regular vacuum cleaner for the loose carbon for the intake valves, but I have no clue about the correct brush hardness and how to crank the engine to shut certain cylinder valves in order to brush them. I suppose the plastic manifold itself can be put in a container and even submerged and cleaned way easier than the intake valves. Thanks again for the great content!
super video, done today, before was 2 faults: stuck egr valve in open position and maf sensor fault.Did it without ista, delete all faults and drive about 20km, no faults coming, thanks !
Thanks for the video and it is really useful. In this particular work, is it possible to DIY this if I don’t have scan tool to retract the valve? Can I simply use a tester to energise the valve so it retract all the way?
Thanks a lot for the video. It helped me a lot when replacing my egr. I deleted the air mass adaptions. But now the car is jerky at lower speeds/rpms. Should I have deleted the exhaust adaptions as well? Can you please tell me what the reason might be for the car being jerky? Thanks in advance!
There is a recall for the egr coolers to be checked replaced if suspected of leaking. My 2014 X3 just got recalled and replaced along with a software update free of charge at the bmw dealer.
Yes, I also received a recall letter on egr, but it was a software update they said. My i-level was updated to the latest a few months ago, so I skipped this recall letter.
Thank you very much for your answer. And please, do not get me wong. I do very much appreciate your video since I do think it is very interesting and instructive, no doubts!!! I Just wanted to highlight that this could happen for the people less experience in the performance of EGR valves. Please, keep doing what you do!! I Will for sure follow it!!! I’m about to own a bmw 320d g20 with 150k km mileage here in GermanyAnd I had a recommendation to buy used from a dealer since they give a one year warranty. But still im anxious about many issues could face down the road. Especially when the warranty is over. Do you provide some advices to make it last longer?
Hi, I have a BMW 120d E87 (177hp). Instead of cleaning the EGR valve, I preferred to buy it new and original BMW. Question: after it has been mounted, must it be connected to the OBD socket for correct operation or is there no need? Thank you.
Hi, buying a new egr valve is an option of course👍 especially, if you don't want to open it and get your hands dirty. There's normaly no need for anything else after installation if everything works fine. If you get any errors, you can use bimmerlink or BimmerTool app to reset egr values, then clear error codes. All the best ✌️
Hi AAron, thanks for the excellent video which gave me the condfidence to attempt this cleaning exercise myself. My car is actually an F11, B47, 2016 520D. I have managed to get the valve out but I can't separate the 2 parts of it for the cleaning. I have several types of keys and bits that are supposed to fit tamper-proof, Torx security screws but none of them fit. It looks to me as though the pin in the centre of the screws is a larger than the holes in my keys. Maybe a BMW special tool? Did you have a similar experience ? I would be grateful for any further advice you can provide. What worked for you and where did you acquire the right tool? Thanks in advance
Hi Gary, I'm glad I've been helpful. I remember having the same problem with screws on the egr valve, I think I already mention that in the video. You don't need a bmw special tools, just find a 5 point torx driver. If you cant, try to take them off and replace with ordinary torx screws which is what I did. I ordered some of the torx drivers from ebay and some from my local too shop. They're very cheap to buy and can be used in some other applications if they don't fit your egr valve. All the best 👍
You could have put some dedicated grease for rubber (Halfords sells it - is red in colour) on that orange seal of EGR to prevent cooking or to become rigid or brittle that rubber. I use it on rubber seal older 320 diesel, when I dismantle and clean the intake manifold. O still got the original intake with seals, today at over 260k miles. Second clean of the intake manifold.
@@bmwsolutions7880 I noticed you said you couldn’t find any torque values for the various fasteners, I have managed to find them on my version of ISTA+, I can let you have them if it’s any help for adding text to this video or including in future videos?
I went to BMW and they said that there was a recall on these 2016 328D. the egr cooler and intake manifold was replaced. parts replaced: exhaust cooler AGR parts set pipe union EGR-valve intake manifold wit sensor charge air
Yes, most of 2016 320 series were recalled due to possible exhaust cooler crack at high temperatures. However, only small proportion of the cars were affected. I took mine to bmw about 2 years ago and it passed all the inspections on this recall and I didn't notice any problem since I bought the car in 2018.
Great video, you talked about the software to activate the valve on re install? I've just replaced the EGR valve on my F21 1 series and while the car runs better, I'm still getting the error code and limp mode. Where can I get the software and interface you talked about? Many thanks
Thanks for your comment 👍 The software is called Ista Rheingold. I bought it online on ebay, they also installed it remotely on my laptop. Generally price is around £60-70. As for the error codes, I think there's a problem with your assembly because limp mode shouldn't happen after installation. I'd check the assembly again, including connections. However, it's difficult to say much without a scan. Watch my video on how to use ista ruclips.net/video/NCPMINNX4rg/видео.html There's also a quick and relatively cheap option to scan your car. Not as much detailed as Ista but I use Bimmerlink or BimmerTool as well for a quick scan. Have look on the link ruclips.net/video/JL2m4iN7KU0/видео.html
Hi, thanks 👍 I bought ista a few years ago on ebay but they don't sell it anymore. However, it's still available online. You can buy it with our without sdp package. Bimmer forums generally have links to sdp (programming) links for free.
Good video. Thank you. However, you have to take into account that everytime you unscrew the Motor housing from the aluminium housing (preassembled housing), you are "losing" the right programming of the valve (offset position) which later on could cause a car alarm due to the EGR valve position sensor NOK...
Hi, thank you for your comment. Long story short, I did this whole cleaning process twice (first one without ista activation) over the past 4 years and didn't have any problems so far. I'm sure what you indicate is partly correct but in worst case scenario, I can buy a brand new egr valve at £130 and replace it. My point is, if we don't try to help ourselves and each other, dealerships and mechanics will keep ripping off us all. Finally, if or when I notice any of the work i carry out don't make sense or doesn't reflect the real life experience, I delete or replace the video I published here (I deleted 1 video and replaced 1 other video already due to not giving consistent information to people). Thanks for your contribution again, all the best 👍
I see your point but I’m not so sure about that. The mechanical spring returns the valve to a default position when it is clean and fully functioning, so as long as the motor / actuator drive pinion isn’t moved, then it should be fine.
Is it just recommended to ‘activate’ the EGR valve using ISTA upon replacement or can it simply not be done without? I am curious as I would like to perform this cleaning and replacement procedure however I do not have ISTA access. (I appreciate your video!)
You can do it without ista, It's just a recommendation. However, when you place it back into the housing you need to align it very carefully and tighten the screws without losing that alignment, otherwise you can bend or even brake the egr tip or some other moving parts inside the valve which results in buying a new egr valve. As I said in the video, first time I did this without the activation but I had to pay great attention during work. Ista makes things much easier. All the best 👍
@@bmwsolutions7880 Ok ok I see. The visuals in your video give a clear view of what could go wrong. But good to know that it can be done without INSTA however being very careful. Much appreciated for your quick and detailed response!
Another wonder of mine, as I managed to get to similar EGR valve, but on transversal engine as X1 has.. I would like to know if it necessary to remove coolant hoses as I probably can get to the mechanism inside without disconnecting the hoses.. is there any coolant running inside the case where the mechanism sits/runs..? Of course what not many might not be aware that the clamps of coolant hoses are yo be used once. After we remove them we either have to buy new clamps from dealer and buy dedicated tool for it or buy the screwing type like yours.. 12-14mm diameter which I have already. So, disconnecting the hoses does or does not effect (spill out) unscrewing the cover of the mechanism?
Feom my experience, there wasn't any coolant inside the egr valve. Little bit of coolant came out of the hose, not the valve. However, it will be difficult to clean ot without taking out the hoses. You may have a hard time and a lot of back ache.
Hello from Italy, very nice and useful video.. Hello from Italy, very nice and useful video. Is it really necessary to open the valve? Dirty appears to be just outside. My B47 has a slow throttle response I think 1 second (if I press fast kickoff nothing happens) with a hole just accelerates and I think 15% less power, test 0-100 in 8.7 ". You think it could be dirty valve or intake manifold? 120K Km..
Thanks for the compliment 👋 slow response could be related to dirty/partly blocked egr valve, throttle body, swirl flaps or transmission adaptations. However, if you have a B47 diesel engine, you need to clean that egr valve before it fails.
Many things are kept secret by manufacturers to make us drive our cars until they break down, so they can sell us replacement parts. What I'm doing is a prevention practice before things breakdown, and I do that based on my personal research online and professional people around me. In conclusion, anything will breakdown sooner or later, if we can learn how to fix and look after little things, at tleast they don't cost us an arm and a leg 👍 Also there's no warning light as for your question.
@@bmwsolutions7880 thanks for the reply mate. Hi... i have a 320D xdrive 2018. Does the EGR or cooler clogged could throw a p2002 DTC (DPF low efficiency) , because it feels excess pressure behind the EGR cooler and assumes DPF is blocked?
Hallo BMW owners :) ..thanks for a video and thanks for a great car .. i have a bmw active tourer f45 218d and after 270 000 i have now drivetrain alarm diagnose in one workshop says after engine check that agr valve is not working propperly (dirty,cloged)..i think before that diagnose that drive train warning is clutch or diferential problem ..but drive train can be and agr valve ?
Hi Nikola, thanks for your comment and question. My opinion is that you need a diognostics scan on the car to pinpoint the error. Bimmerlink or Ista Rheingold can do the job. BMW F series are brilliant cars but have a lot more ECUs than previous E series, so your drive terrain fault can be linked to anything. I found a thread for you to have a look on a similar problem. f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1782521 Hope it helps, all the best 👍
@@bmwsolutions7880 Thanks for answear . Yes we scanned the car today and after half n hour diagnose servicer found that my drive train warning issue is connected to the agr / egr valve and cooler, they recommend a cleaning in few days until that i will drive a car and I dont have any driving problems only i loose a little bit of a gas or fuel consuption rises from 4,7 to 5,2 .. He says that he can clean the valve and cooler, but what do you think ? cleaning or buying a new ? can be cleaning long term problem fixed ? Thanks a lot
I understand now 👍 In most cases, cleaning the egr valve deletes many error codes, so I suggest you start with cleaning first. Also consider cleaning the egr cooler which holds crazy amount of soot and gunky residue inside. The mechanic should be able to see the condition of these components while cleaning. If you can, you also stay there and watch him and ask about the condition. After the cleaning, all you need to do is clear the error codes and take a drive for a few miles and see if same codes show up again. If don't, your problem is solved. If do, you need to check the error codes again and let me know. And remember this time you will have a clean egr and egr cooler that will serve you at least 40000-60000 miles without problem. You can buy a new egr valve but I would clean it and see the condition first.
Hi, it is recommended to use ista activation but not a compulsory. If you don't have the software, you need to be vary careful when you insert the egr valve tip into the housing. There's a change of damaging the valve if egr tip is not aligned perfectly in the housing.
@@bmwsolutions7880 Thank you for the answer. For you is also necessary to clean the intake manifold? I know that euro 6 BMWs have intake ducts that get much more dirty than others. Maybe make a video of it if you happen to do it 😀
Hey, im in asia at the moment. The bmw dealership here and other mechanics do not "clean" egr valves here because apparently there is no need to. I find that BS. They claim the soot in the EGR doesn't stick to the surfaces of the EGR. I do a lot of highway driving... perhaps 75-80% highway driving. My exhaust pipes are not black. They are only slightly rusty on the inside. What signs should i look for to determine if my EGR is clogged? Best
No car is immortal, so sooner or later they'll all give you problems. Egr, dpf and egr cooler are main ones in diesel cars and it is a dirty job to clean them. That's why mechanics and dealerships generate lies, so they can sell you a replacement parts. You saw the video and work, rest is up to you.
Hello where i live there is available new type of diesel. HVO100 synthetic fuel No polution. My question is that in long term is this fuel reliable ? This fuel have less carbon emissions , nox ,etc.. that means that DPF, and EGR have less problems?. My car is bmw with b47 engine
Hi, all fossil fuels create pollution as a by product, so I don't think that new diesel you're talking about is zero pollutant. However, more expensive good quality diesel contains cleaning detergents to keep your engine and certain parts more clean in the long run. Therefore, your car produces low emissions comparing to cheap low quality fuel.
@@bmwsolutions7880 that is true, the HVO100 ,is not 100% clean. www.speedyfuels.co.uk/products/hvo-fuel/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwhsmaBhCvARIsAIbEbH68DDjmEFmmwt8UA8e1Xlp3G-xE7o5K2vminJV1s960bpRi4Rg4zeoaAhE7EALw_wcB
Hey Aaron, very good video as always. thank you. Can you share the ista procedur to activate the egr ?? and one last question. Did you any bleeding for the coolant ? since there are some air goes inside the hoses, i think it's important to bleed the coolant. keep good work (Y)
Hi Albert, thanks very much👍 I shared the procedure in the video, 13.48 min. shows the steps. As for the bleeding procedure, I replaced the entire coolant and did bleeding twice but couldn't record it as it was very messy process wanted to focus on egr video. 🤠

@@bmwsolutions7880 i have a question, before installing the new egr valve you need to retract it by 20% but once the egr valve is placed and instaled, do you need to release it to 0% or you just instal it retracted by 20% and leave it once you are done ? thanks
It depends on the amount of coolant you lose after taking off the hoses. However, it's not a long process to bleed it to be on the safe side. Watch my video on that, takes 10-15 min at max.
Hi, Sorry for my Bad english, What function has this sheet Metal on the egr valve? What number has it too Order it? I only have this 2 screws on the valve
Hi, no problem with your English 👍 That metal sheet is the gasket, it closes the gap between egr valve and housing when you tighten it like a sealant, so exhaust gas doesn't escape to the air. Otherwise, you get a reduced engine performance. I don't have the part number but if you search "egr valve steel gasket" I'm sure you can find it. 👍👋
Hi, I have a problem with my F10 520d with B47 engine. I watched your video and cleaned my EGR Valve, perfectly. But the car runs the same as before, with 0 improvments. My problem is that I feel a loss of power, arround 20-30%, I had it since a longer time, and there is a little "engine shake" when I Start and Stop the engine. I saw that if i reset the EGR adaptions from ISTA, the engine does not shake at first Start and fist Stop anymore, but after I Start/Stop again, it shake same as before. To explain it better, is like I press "Start Engine", the engine starts and I feel a little tremble for 1 second, and when I stop the engine, I feel a tremble for 1.5 - 2 seconds. I tested other cars like mine and is not like this, they are smooth and fine. Have any ideea what it can be?
Hi there, just to clarify that cleaning egr valve doesn't give you more horse power. It's a preventative service. You lose power and run into problems if egr valve gets blocked. As for your problem, looks like something is not assembled properly after cleaning the valve, this can be the steel gasket, escape gas pipe on the valve or anything else you disassembled during this work. I suggest, you check everything you did on your car and carry out a final scan on Ista. I've done this cleaning twice and never had any problems. Keep us updated, all the best 👍
Hi where about in uk you are and would you be able to clean egr for me as I don’t want to mess up even if it looks simple you still need to know what are you doing. Thanks

@@bmwsolutions7880 thanks for replying. I took my egr valve out cleaned it and put it back. The yellow management light is still on. Do you have to drive some miles for the light to go out?
It's hard to tell what causes the error to show up if you did the job without ista+ I can only suggest you clear the error codes with bimmerlink or BimmerTool and see if the come up again. If they do, you can see the description in the apps for the error codes.
Hi, I'm in Indonesia using 520d N47. In the workshop, the EGR and intake were cleaned because after inspection there was a lot of soot and dirt. after that, when the car was driven 10 minutes at low speed there was a sense of stuttering 2 times. and after that a "drive train" warning appeared the speed could not be maximized and was asked to return to the workshop. In the repair shop the scan results show "EGR mechanical fault". it seems the repair shop is confused what to do because everything has been installed correctly. Does it have anything to do with what you describe in this video? or maybe any suggestions. thanks
Hi 👋 looks like the mechanics broke a part in the valve. It could also be a bent egr valve tip or poor assembly. I'm not surprised they are confused because they can't read the fault code and repair instructions properly. Your best option is to buy a new egr valve which is not very expensive. See the link www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-BMW-EGR-valve-gasket-for-F10-F20-F22-F30-Mini-Toyota-11718513132-/165280693248?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=707-127634-2357-0
Looks like you're right, this afternoon the mechanic informed me that after cleaning the problem remained the same and the engine limped. Finally they asked me to buy a new EGR valve, hopefully after the item arrives the problem is resolved. Here, when you decide to take care of a European vehicle, you are confused, worried that after being repaired it will get even more damaged.
I'm glad they accepted their mistake 👍 unfortunately most of the mechanics are same, they have no idea what they're doing. I'm not even a mechanic but learned how to use repair instructions on Ista Rheingold and started this channel to help people. All the best 👋

Hey is a clogged egr the main cause that i got a drivechain error which reduces my speed and power or a sparkplug? Once a month i got a drivechain error, i did let read the errors trough obd, there where 2 errors of egr and a one from sparkplug. Mine is a 318d from 2015 and it has 197k kms on it
It's drivetrain error which is caused by a malfunction of a part and puts the car into limp mode. Also there's no spark plugs in diesel cars, it is glow plugs. Get your car scanned to identify the problem, it's hard to tell based on your information.
@@bmwsolutions7880 i got it scanned and it gave 3 main errors of which 2 egr and one spark plug. The error gos directly away when i stop the car and afterwards it runs normal for a month or so. Sorry for my english, it isnt my main language;)
It may be the egr valve and dpf blocked. Also, you have a high mileage on the car so if the egr and dpf haven't been cleaned yet, they will cause error codes.
Hi, As I said in the video, it is optional to use the software. I would definitely use it if I had the software. If you don't have it, you need to be careful when placing it in the housing.
brake cleaner can damage rubber yes. Although saying that, if you have a seal you want to reuse and it is oily - I always use brake cleaner to quickly clean it then dry it and use silicone grease before refitting. I feel it's like any oil or solvent with rubber items - if it is in contact for a long period it will crack and damage the seal. If it's 10 seconds, I seriously doubt it will have any effect. EGR cleaner I'm not sure. I don't believe they have any rubber seals within the mechanical part of the valve that is in the high temp zone. Pretty sure the EGR shaft seal is a brass/bronze bushing with a tight tolerance to stop gases entering the electronics.
Hi, i tried to clean my egr valve today. After putting it back to place, my car starts its shacking and then the car turn off. Is it because the egr valve is maybe broken. I have the fault codes 255b00 and 272f00. Can you please help. Thanks
Hi, i can try to help you if you give me some info. what car do you have? How did you clean your egr and put it back? Where do those error codes come from?
Thank you for your reply, The car is a f34 318 150hp b47 engine. I took it out, but since i didnt had an 5star torx i only cleaned the valve and then put it back in place. I have by accident broke the "13718479957 Pipe" black very fragile besides the egr valve. I temporary ducktaped it. Maybe this is causing the problem. When i start the car its shaling and the rpm is not stabe and then after 10sec the car is stopping. Is the shaking an stopping of the car a sign of not working egr valve?
Hi Aaron, I fixed the problem the egr was stuck in open position and this was causing the shaking and shutting the car off. I brought an new egr valve and put it on place and the car is back to normal. Thank you really for your time and help! Very appreciated.
If you put a cloth over the egr cooler like I did, coolant wouldn't go into other parts. It was only a few drops anyway so it wouldn't cause any issues even if does go into exhaust.
@@bmwsolutions7880 thanks for your reply, I have Carly, it allows me to reset engine adaptations. Do you think that is the same thing? Thanks for the video !
Carly can do simple things like reading and clearing error codes and some service functions. Ista is a dealer level native BMW software that shows every detail and how to solve them with pics, videos and clear guidance. So I definitely recommend ista if you can learn how to use it. It's also free and can be used on any BMW.
EGR 11718594492 VS EGR 11718513132 I need to change EGR on my F34 318dGT from 2017 so I'm wondering is there any difference in these two EGR valves. Both are OEM parts but the first one (11718594492) is like half the price of the second one (11718513132). It says that both of them could fit into my car, but I would like to see if any of you have any experience with changing it and which one you got.

You're very welcome 👍 I tried to find the part number in my ebay purchase but couldn't, sorry. Excellent video - very helpful. I was able repair my EGR valve after watching this. The motor housing has 5 point security torx which must have a non- standard centre pin as it was too large to fit my torx bits. So The setting of the valve to open 20% for install, how can this be done with the man on a drive with no lap top software and lead?
Hello, what year is the car? And a tip is for you to remove the clamps easier use a socket its easier than the screwdriver. Cheers
That's good point, didn't think of that until now. I might try it next time I clean it 👍
Many thanks for sharing this which is the best video I can find on this subject. Very informative and well explained
You're very welcome ✌👋
@@bmwsolutions7880 I noticed you said you couldn’t find any torque values for the various fasteners, I have managed to find them on my version of ISTA+, I can let you have them if it’s any help for adding text to this video or including in future videos?
That would be a great help 👍 I appreciate to your contribution mate. You can either type them up here or email me on bimmer2020@outlook.com
I went to BMW and they said that there was a recall on these 2016 328D. the egr cooler and intake manifold was replaced.
parts replaced:
exhaust cooler
AGR parts set
pipe union
EGR-valve
intake manifold wit
sensor charge air
Yes, most of 2016 320 series were recalled due to possible exhaust cooler crack at high temperatures. However, only small proportion of the cars were affected. I took mine to bmw about 2 years ago and it passed all the inspections on this recall and I didn't notice any problem since I bought the car in 2018.
Great video, you talked about the software to activate the valve on re install? I've just replaced the EGR valve on my F21 1 series and while the car runs better, I'm still getting the error code and limp mode. Where can I get the software and interface you talked about? Many thanks
Thanks for your comment 👍
The software is called Ista Rheingold.
Watch my video on how to use ista ruclips.net/video/NCPMINNX4rg/видео.html
There's also a quick and relatively cheap option to scan your car. Not as much detailed as Ista but I use Bimmerlink or BimmerTool as well for a quick scan. Have look on the link ruclips.net/video/JL2m4iN7KU0/видео.html
Hey again, another fantastic vid, where can I get my hands on ista software? pls kindly advice, must appreciated in advance.
Hi, thanks 👍
I bought ista a few years ago on ebay but they don't sell it anymore.
Which brand of egr would you purchase knew for 130?

@@bmwsolutions7880 You’re the man, thanks a lot!
Good video. How many volts activates the valve? Is that 12V?
It would be good to know if we install without diagnostics.
Thank you.
Thanks, but I don't recommend to use direct 12v to egr valve. You can't just close and open it using direct voltage.
@@bmwsolutions7880 Does the valve activate with 12V or maybe less?
Zontar Zee thanks did it your way with 9v battery, all went good. Couldn’t use ista because laptop broke down
Another wonder of mine, as I managed to get to similar EGR valve, but on transversal engine as X1 has..
Thanks mate for this detailed video. It really helps me a lot 😊
Glad I've been helpful mate 👍
@@bmwsolutions7880 just one question please. How did you know the EGR needs to be cleaned? I mean was the engine light on before cleaning?
Many things are kept secret by manufacturers to make us drive our cars until they break down, so they can sell us replacement parts.
What I'm doing is a prevention practice before things breakdown, and I do that based on my personal research online and professional people around me. In conclusion, anything will breakdown sooner or later, if we can learn how to fix and look after little things, at tleast they don't cost us an arm and a leg 👍
Also there's no warning light as for your question.
@@bmwsolutions7880 thanks for the reply mate. Why do they put a cover in front of the engine?
I found a thread for you to have a look on a similar problem. f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1782521

He says that he can clean the valve and cooler, but what do you think ? cleaning or buying a new ? can be cleaning long term problem fixed ? Thanks a lot
I understand now 👍
In most cases, cleaning the egr valve deletes many error codes, so I suggest you start with cleaning first.
Hi, thank you for this video. I need to use ISTA foe close valve with a new EGR?

No car is immortal, so sooner or later they'll all give you problems. Egr, dpf and egr cooler are main ones in diesel cars and it is a dirty job to clean them. That's why mechanics and dealerships generate lies, so they can sell you a replacement parts. You saw the video and work, rest is up to you.
Very informative video, thank you

How often does it have to be cleaned?

Hello where i live there is available new type of diesel.
HVO100 synthetic fuel
No polution.

You can remove the cover at the stem of the valve and clean behind that , quite a lot of carbon gets behind it .
Yes, it can be done as well. As far as I can remember, I used a lot of carb cleaner so didn't have to worry about that part.

Forgot to ask, after re-connecting coolant hoses back to EGR is necessary to bleed the coolant circuit?
It depends on the amount of coolant you lose after taking off the hoses. However, it's not a long process to bleed it to be on the safe side. Watch my video on that, takes 10-15 min at max.
Hi, Sorry for my Bad english,
What function has this sheet Metal on the egr valve?
What number has it too Order it?
I only have this 2 screws on the valve
Hi, no problem with your English 👍
That metal sheet is the gasket, it closes the gap between egr valve and housing when you tighten it like a sealant, so exhaust gas doesn't escape to the air.

It should be in closed position when you take it out of the housing.
That's why I used ista+ when placing it back to prevent breaking it.

Hi, I bought a new egr today, do I have to follow the procedure in the video with recalibration?
Hi,
As I said in the video, it is optional to use the software. I would definitely use it if I had the software. If you don't have it, you need to be careful when placing it in the housing.
How long does the job take from start to finish?
A few hours depending on how you treat your car. I take things slowly and carefully to learn about my car as well as look after it more careful.
just cleaned my egr , still showing eml and codes PO46C and PO42F . is it because i havent reset/set the egr on itsa? any help much appreciated
Did you clear the error codes?
yes cleared the error codes , but still came back on eml . literally egr valve was spotless
I think your answer is here www.obd-codes.com/p046c
Does brake cleaner or egr cleaner damage the rubber seals?
brake cleaner can damage rubber yes.
I suggest you take out the egr valve and check that the valve tip is not broken. If it's not broken, probably the broken pipe is the problem.
Hi Aaron, I fixed the problem the egr was stuck in open position and this was causing the shaking and shutting the car off. I brought an new egr valve and put it on place and the car is back to normal. Thank you really for your time and help! Very appreciated.
I'm very glad you solved the problem 👍
Can this cause coolant leak into the exhaust ?
If you put a cloth over the egr cooler like I did, coolant wouldn't go into other parts. It was only a few drops anyway so it wouldn't cause any issues even if does go into exhaust.
How can I get esta software? Is it cheap?
You can get it for free on bimmer forums
