Clean HDMI out tutorial for Canon Rebel SL3

- This is a quick tutorial on how to set up clean HDMI out on a Canon Rebel SL3 DSLR camera. I need clean HDMI out for streaming, and when I only selected the info button to remove the overlay I could still see the autofocus brackets on my face. By following the steps I showed in this video the autofocus brackets no longer display and it's a true clean HDMI output through the use of an HDMI capture card.

Excellent work and very much appreciated after reading the entire 450+ page SL3 manual and not finding this info!
A couple of things maybe to add to video description
- in the UK / EU this camera is called a Canon EOS 250D
- the final step (pressing info to cycle through display options) isn't necessary, as the HDMI output is clean already.
- auto focus / face detection rectangle seems always to be visible for me *on the camera* even with the rest of the info display turned off, but it's not displayed on the HDMI output (this confused me for a good while when testing)

Hi, is it necessary to disable the AutoFocus function to get that clean output? I currently have the SL2 and I need to disable the AF which is a huge problem for me. Thanks!
I leave auto focus on, this method got rid of the auto focus square for me.
@@noycebru thanks!! That's a huge advantage, the SL2 doesn't allow me to do that unfortunately
So thrilled. I’ve been battling the AutoFocus box since I got it and had been using manual focus because of it. This approach got rid of it.
How do you keep the sleep timer from kicking in?
Except since I have tracking autofocus on, when it changes the focus, a little box shows up on the screen temporarily. Is there even a way to get rid of it?
Does it really output 4k 10bit 422 via hdmi? Thank you

I want to us the auto mode so that I get a good image. When I use that Tv mode, the colors go away... I think it's because it does not have HDR enabled... How can I get a GOOD HDR image and still get rid of the autofocus square? Thanks

Thank you so much! Quick question, can I still use autofocus? Or will the brackets appear on my face in the HDMI output? I'm hoping to use this with an elgato cam link to record the clean HDMI
U can still use autofocus, you get a clean hdmi out, but on your camera screen you'll see an auto focus box

I also have this exact model, but when I go to tv mode > menu > 4, there is no clean hdmi option. The list stops at picture auto, any idea why?
I'd suggest trying a different mode like M or AV to see if the menu option pops up.
keeps telling me i cant because the hdmi resolution. im in the tv and video section when trying to change the clean setting. im not on 4k. HELP!!! thanks
Any idea if you can change this cameras frame rate on the hdmi output?
If its not under the TV mode menu i would try menu options under M possibly.

@@noycebru Can you post a video on how to keep the monitor from turning off during recordings? I'm using AC to power the camera and a camlink to feed the video into OBS.
@@charlesrobertthomas The screen turns off if you hook it up to cam link via HDMI, but if you use the USB cable method it does not.

Thanks for the video. One question, I saw reports saying that the record symbol appears in hdmi out when recording in camera (with the clean hdmi output activated) . it is true?
Not sure, but your output has no overlays at all. I use it for live streaming

Does the camera's LCD monitor turn off when using HDMI, or does it stay on while using HDMI?
it turns off after about 30 minutes. I haven't looked to see if there is a way to extend it.

When using hdmi out (clean) for streaming not recording can you do 1080/60fps on this camera? Thanks
In fact, according to many, it can only do 1080p 60fps in that scenario.

What cable do you use? Is it an HDMI to USB?
I use a mini hdmi cable to hdmi cable. The hdmi side is connected to an usb 3.0 capture card.
@@noycebru have you use camlink 4K from elgato? We bought one, but we don't have the right cable I think. Not sure if I connect the camlink with the mini HDMI out or the digital terminal
@@EduardoAyresSoares i dont have a camlink but the hdmi output connects to the hdmi input on the capture card and then the capture card connects via usb or hdmi depending on the setup.

Good. Thank you. shocking how Canon hasn't addressed this properly till now.Looks like the 250D then rather than mirror-less M50 becuase clean HDMI on M50 =no autofocus . =bad for vlogging / livestreaming.
Can you help me? When I get to that on my camera the selection is not in white and when i click on it i get the following: "Not available because of the associated function's setting. HDMI Resolution". How do I fix this?
I had the same issue. I went into the settings menu, #4, and set the HDMI to Auto. Then I was able to set the clean HDMi in the Shoot menu.

Games Greene it’s been awhile since I looked at this but I think you have to make sure it isn’t set to an actual resolution in another part of the menu. I just don’t recall which so you’ll have to hunt for it.
No matter what I do I can't get rid of the record Light or the Face Reticle Box.... My ouptut is def not clean and when I go to your HDMI INFO disp screen it says " not available in this mode" I CAN NOT get a clean out put of this camera AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!bringing it back to the store tomorrow to see if they can straghten it out. its been about 12 hours of problem solving... I've had enough. It is advertised as CLEANHDMI OUTPUT @canonusa
Apparently SL2 requires you to disable Auto focus in order to get a clean output. But the SL3 should give you a clean output. The menu wrench page 4 gives you the option to set HDMI resolution - this needs to be set to AUTO before you can change the HDMI INFO disp setting. Make sure you are Modes P, Tv, Av or M - other modes will not show this option.

Hey! I have the EOS 250D, which I *thought* was the same camera. But... I do not have these settings in the menu; in fact the menu looks quite different. Anyone know why or can help?
You're in a mode on the top dial that doesn't support these options. Try going to Manual shooting.
You have to go into the Tv mode on top of the camera I had that same problem tho
Tv or Av mode has these settings - but the other modes do not...
Anyone know how to change the frame rate on 1080p when doing a clean hdmi out?
Apparently you are stuck with 60 fps on 1080p if doing clean hdmi. Stupid canon.
