The Roman lost because they didn't use their Hastati correctly. With rome, you NEED to follow up your meatshield units with your good units immediately to counter charges... If you just let them get charged and eaten alive for free, then your quality infantry also eat charges and die.
@@jonaswielandt6731The best way for Rome to counter barbarian infantry is to use "meat shield" units like Hastati to absorb the barbarians' charge, then immediately move their higher quality infantry in behind them while the barbarians are still caught up with the Hastati. This not only weakens them a bit, but more importantly it stops the barbarian units from getting a charge... The problem is, if you just throw your hastati away and don't capitalize, they'll get chewed up while doing relativey little damage, and then your quality Roman infantry is going to get charged and lose.
If I played Rome. I would have kept the Legionaries in closer support and let the Boii come to me. I would have focused the slinger fire on the Oathsworn units per Heir's excellent advice.
Nobody playing Rome like they should. Taking those charges with there excellent charge defense and using armoured Legionärs who pretty much grind everything down
thanks Heir and Sol for bringing us another great replay, i've been binge watching these! small suggestion: perhaps you could start the video by briefly introducing the army compositions using the overview it shows when loading into the battle, where we can see all units at a glance. it's easy to miss or mix up units when doing the introduction during battle and can get quite hectic.
We don't see a lot of Rome victories. Are they not as good as people say they are? Or are they just good enough that watching them win is not very interesting?
Rome are meant to be top tier but this many years down the line I am 50/50 on it. If you're in a multiplayer battle and Rome are on your side, you've lost xD and there aren't many good showings in replays either. I used to solely blame the player but hmmm? Makes you wonder. (It was pre-marian reforms so that affects it)
Rome is overpowered as heck, let a Roman player spam legionnaire cohort or evocati cohort and you are almost guaranteed to never beat Rome. This battle, the Roman player was playing with one hand tied behind his back because pre Marian Roman army is beatable but not imperial Roman army.
The Rome player lost because his pre-Marian legionnaires got caught unbraced by heavy horse and gallic heavy swords. Trying to counter charge barbarians instead of using Rome’s excellent charge defense is always a recipe for disaster. Rome, even pre-Marian Rome, is ridiculously strong in this game. Some people haven’t figured out how to play them however
hallo everyone. I have started playing Rome 2 but i cannot find any games on quick battle :'( do i need to own the DLC or something first - in order to get a game. Or does no one play ranked anymore or whut?
Legion, pike, hoplite spam has been frowned on by Rtw2 community tbh. Also matches like this have rules, they probably decided on sticking to the republic era of rome.
I don't think Rome players ever realize they have excellent charge defense and should be taking the charges rather than counter charging barbarians. Always ends the same way smh
@@RoyalRegimentofScotland they don't but getting caught unbraced/on the move by barbarian heavy horse and swords is always worse than taking the charge as Rome
@@farleysweatman4417 You are not incorrect, but you need to turn off fire at will to get the bracing bonus. So, you would lose your pila precursors. Also, impact damage is still done with a comparative calculation of mass and speed with charge bonus being added on top (much more complicated than this actually but you get the point), so not moving would set one of the variables in the calculation to 0 and without bracing that's going to make the charge hurt a lot. You could turn off fire at will use you very heavy mass and maybe even testudo to tank it, but impact damage is all base damage and Romes best defense against it is armor anyways (mid-tier Rome average about 90 armor). Counter charging with pila is probably the best in all cases except the Oathsworn. With the counter charge on Sword Followers, you are winning in the mass department, depending on when you charge heavy and very heavy entities have similar charge speed so you are equalizing that a bit and you will get off a volley of precursors. The Sword Followers will still win the charge as they have a good one and the Romans suck across the board, but I think you will take similar damage either way and counter charge will do more back to them. Though as said Oathsworn just turtle up and eat that one you aren't winning unless you double team it or pour missile fight into it. Sidenote, Idk with all the micro going on if people want to be constantly turning on/off fire at will just to make a charge do a little less to your Romans.
@@howitzer551 Sounds like you have your stats down, no argument from me here. I will say, however, that the first line of legionnaires on the move and unbraced often gets intercepted by cav before launching a successful pila volley/charge. Leaving your troops stationary has a better shot of getting your pila off and/or bracing afterwards
Ffs, 95% of the time Rome loses. With these poor shows, you would think they never conquered the known world. How about Sol or others play as Rome for once and show them how to beast as Rome?
