On another note, I did want to thank you, Heir, and Sol and Soap for this amazing content. I remember watching your channel when I was in my early teens. My household didnt have a computer capable of running Rome 2. I always was a huge antiquity nerd and would read the myths and histories before bed. I would just stare my eyes out when I watched your video's on Rome 2, the game seemed everything I wanted. Now that Im older and have the privilege of playing it myself, I can recognize its merits and flaws. But it'll always be special to me as this mythologized game that I wanted to play for so long but couldnt, but at least I could watch your vids. Cheers Heir, and enjoy your weekend!
A quick way to know the range of a Javelin is to look at what the guy is holding. If an infantry unit (melee or spear) has a javelin in their hands as their default stance they have 80 range if they have their sword, axe, or spear they have 40. When you set a projectile as a precursor in the tables it actually links it to a slightly different animation set, it is way more complicated than this, but the simplified effect of this is that precursors only get taken out right before they throw whether standing or charging (though after the first toss they keep them ready for a bit if standing). This means that if you see an infantry unit with a javelin out while running around, they likely have a light javelin with 80 range and 29 damage (20 base 9 ap) and will have anywhere from 3 to 5 to throw. Also, spears are always tip up and javelins are tip down if you want to tell at a glance from distance what the unit has in its hands.
These battles are so good to watch. Big thanks and respect to the people sending them in. I do love just having a break from whatever I'm doing and watching the new battle on this channel.
Thanks for the great videos! I have been here now for almost 8 years. A friend of mine has showed me this cool game he found. We couldn‘t resist buying a gaming PC after watching your videos, so you kind of got me into gaming. Thank you for that!
Those illyrian raiders are so underrated too. A unit with stalk/guerilla and javelins/AP axes is a really good tool to pressure enemy skirmishers/suprise a cavarly fight. Shame for their low hp and armor.
Thank you to Hotel Soap, Sol Invictus, and of course Heir for continuing to bring us great Rome 2 content. The Ardiaei just outlasted Pontus in this battle and Hotel Soap made an excellent choice in targeting those Bronze Shield Pikemen early in the battle. Illyrian Marines, Slave Slingers, and Illyrian Noble Hoplites are pretty much all must-haves for any Ardiaei army in my opinion. The Pontic units did plenty of damage to the Ardiaei, but it wasn't enough. That was a fun battle between two skilled players.
The current olympic record for a javelin throw is almost 98.5 metres, before they changed the regulation javelin the world record was over 104 metres. Completely useless fact that came to mind when you said the illyrian marines have an arm on them
Slinger shots and javelins thrown at pikemen were definitely effective, but I believe it was the sneaky axemen of Ardiaei that broke Sol Invictus' army. The axemen tipped the balance in favor of Hotelsoap.
Nice battle! Regarding the prediction of who wins: the issue isnt that its Sol or Soap, its that its usually the "home" team that wins (i.e. the person who sent in the replay, who most likely wants to show off their hard earned victory). Is it possible to somehow switch around the perspective on the battle to randomize who is home and away?
Its been an issue for a long time that CA hasn't added a spectator mode to replays (units will be completely invisible when hiding if it is opponent's, still an issue in the newer titles), that being said, sometimes its just the luck of the draw. There are several replays that I get rolled in that didnt get casted so might just be luck, that or my deranged builds tend to net me losses that I get absolutely crushed in so they aren't so close.
I'm still baffled at how a Rome 2 player as legendary as Sol Invictus could lose to Ardiaei while using one of the factions that rewards skillful play. Great game to both players overall!
@@brainletfag A few years back, when I played actively, I was known for using Ardiaei. Let me give you a few tips. You should use Illyrian Noble Hoplites aggressively and avoid getting Marines into a frontal combat with a sword unit as those rip Thureos Spears and their derivatives apart. Nobles should counter-charge nearly any enemy infantry with the exception of Thracian Nobles and similar units. Mercenary Axe Warriors should be used to support the Nobles in a fight if possible, particularly if you're fighting a unit with high melee attack like the Evocati Cohort or Royal Peltasts. Mercenary Celtics can be used as well, particularly for flanking as they are light and fast. There's also the 360 gold Thureos which can devastate enemy skirmishers (I occasionally used them as discount peltasts). Lastly, Illyrian Cav is weak but they are cheap and can be a major nuisance. They are only marginally weaker than Citizen Cavalry but are still medium cav and good for taking out light skirmishers. They also have the Frenzied Charge ability which makes them unbreakable for a short period of time.

It's a special day, not because it's Eid (Eid Mubarak everyone) it's a special day because heir is playing ard and pon in Rome 2

Just the tip - every pike unit 🤣
Thanks to the players Sol and Soap for providing the battles

Awesome battle
It's a nice change of pace. But why Rome 2 and not Attila?
This engine, 1v1? Really good content 🎉🎉🎉
Man, that was awesome
I wish the music for Rome 2 was more inspired. Sadly no song in the soundtrack is remotely exciting to listen to

we all have our odd days and matches, sometimes we just derp out every now and then
