Oof... that elephant charge was painful to watch.
Agonizing.
I think it was used as a way to adsorp pila fire to save the pikemen.
Carthage at zama
Like the Last Samurai, but with Elephants and Romans!
@@jlz2106 Doesn't take away the pain of watching elephants get wrecked like that.
That elephant charge seemed premature. Still, Hotel Soap did a good job of actually making pikemen useful in a multiplayer battle. The Roman player should have tried to outflank the pikemen more. Also, if Rome had brought some skirmishers themselves, that could have helped them, as long as the Roman player could protect those skirmishers. Interesting battle. Thanks to Heir for sharing it and thanks to the two players for playing it.
Yolo Elephants is a bold move!
WOW! What did he do with those elephants! RIP. However, good use of pikes with the swords; overall very back-and-forth battle.
YOLO!
Me think the ele was used to be a jav pin Pellow so the pikes can hold rome back
My thoughts too, very bold move. Though it has the flaw of the enemy turning off fire at will on most of your units. Having a few velites would be nice to deal with elephants and the skirmish cavalry.
@@RunicRhino22 true but I think it was a calculated risk for Rome. They did have the jav cav to deal with ele, but the other guy just had too many tools to deal with Rome
That is what it appeared to be.
Oh wow, I saw what the Bactrian was doing with the elephants. But I honestly though he did things a bit too soon. Good to see it played out.
The elephants did drain all the javs, which helped out the later to protect the pikes.
Could have done that with light cav tho
@@bobstephens5599 not if the roman player sees the ligth cav as low priority target. With the elephants in mind.
Also if the roman forces had continued their advance; the elephants would have penetrated deeper and done much, much more damage.
This is true.
I thought this was over as soon as the elephants were yoloed, the Rome player miss played so hard by just charging head long in they could have spread the ranks really wide as the Baktria lacked the infantry to match and the Rome player would have easier collapsed on the flanks.
I'm waiting on an Heir 30 or so minute Rome special. I'll accept back to back video posts on Rome 2 as well.
Do you think backtria sacrificed the elephants to make rome spend the javelins so his infantry would have a better chance?
Two things, one the Roman general was still alive by the end stats and two. Heir had a previous video showing a hopllite blitz thru a pike wall. Rome shoulve tried to column ormatio. Into those pikes with principes and uses hastati to surround. But obviously both noob players still. Which is okay we all start somewhere
It's been a LONG time since I have seen pikes prevail over melee infantry in open field battle
I am going to calle PETA you don't do that at elephants on my watch! 🤣
Historically elephants were used early and in the front. but yeah friendly fire is kinda of a problem irl
Historically, they would use a lot more elephants for a frontal assault, and often in tandem with some light infantry at least for support.
That single unit of elephants with only archer support (and not a lot of that), would never stand a chance against any army that had range power. Still, he did good work keeping the calvary advantage and realizing that his archers can run circles around that roman army.
1 elephant for 1 hastati that's what I call a good trade
but at the same time, it's the best use of pikes I've ever seen at this level
Not very often that you see that many pikemen in MP
Indeed. Worked out well this time.
That was such sloppy play, it was like watching myself play!
Hit point count... spoken like a true Warhammer player
Thumbs up for authentic formation of roman units (triplex acies) !
The baktrian player threw the game, and then the roman player tossed it right back at him.
Im good fam! Great commentary bro, really intruiging, entertaining and educational too! lmao, have a good one
Heir, the Gregarious Elephants just wanted to play football with the Romans......
The kind Romans would not like.
Hey Heir! Is anyone allowed to send you potential replays? Just curious!
Send your replays to his email
Were the elephants sent in to absorb javelins for the pikes?
yep
WOW Bactria :) good job 👍
Looks like the legatus bolted lmao
Legged it, even.
Rome must have withdrawn it's general wtf
Nvm they went hidden at 5:34
romans forgot their velites
Indeed.
noob vs noob battle lol
need velites
First! Yes, yes, yes! The best day of my life!
what the crap is going on????
Wow shame of that Roman player, how can play with that with Roman
The level of play in the Rome II games seems consistently quite poor.
watch emperor bubbles tournament games for high quality players.
If you are here for eSports you're in the wrong scene my dude, its died and been reborn in the newer titles. That being said, my games are played for fun and giggles. Anyone is allowed to join in no matter how new and I'm not about crushing newbies with meta build. If you're looking for super meta high lvl play then you're gonna have to dig around a bit for that on rome2
@@brainletfag The esports scene is alive and well. there are multiple tournaments.
@@mdstmouse7 they're far, far smaller with less viewership and participation than there used to be, back in the days of maximus and blade balance. Which is a shame given this game turned out to be pretty decent in the end after dedicated efforts to fix it. Playerbase is small enough that I don't feel like I can describe it as an esport anymore.
