    While Venice didn't fight alongside France in the Battle of Pavia, the Marquesat of Saluzzo did, and they were an Italian region in northern Italy. So them being represented by Venice would make sense.

      Not soo much. They had whole different classes of troops.

    • @canemcave
      @canemcave Год назад

      @@acdragonrider not at all, Venice fought the kingdom of France on numerous occasions. In fact, Venice had one time or another to fight against all major European powers.
      Just in that period:
      first Italian war - 1495 - the league of Venice fought against France
      war of the League of Cambrai - Venice fought against France from 1508 to 1513
      After the war of the League of Cambrai, Venice took a neutral stand in the European theater of war, concentrating primarily in defending against the Ottomans (there were some exceptions due to force majeure like the naval battle against the Spanish fleet at Gibraltar in 1618).
      Not to mention when fighting against its long time rival and enemy Genoa many of the troops and commanders were French, and on top of that the French were regularly allied with the Ottomans.
      So no, Venice was not a traditional ally to France, Venice was a much more consistent ally to Florence, than France.

    There needs to be a morale debuff to having thin long lines of only 2 men deep. If you charge the center of a unit using a deep ranked regiment of men, it should auto kill all the men in the middle of the enemy formation, since their line of only 2men deep could not resist a 5 man deep charge, as well a unit should immediately route when it's center gets blown out after that.

      @@declanjones8888 It's written by Kuji Mitsuhisa, a woman who was Kentaro Miura's assistant. Kentaro Miura created Berserk. Wolfsmund ("the wolf's maw") is a rather brutal no-magic medieval manga with a cunning and vicious antagonist whose work is to suppress rebels and enforce the Habsburgs' laws. The manga has several arcs which are rather stand-alone ish though it helps to have read the previous one to read the next ones. The arcs are a crescendo of violence (and I'd argue sadism from the villain) where "good guys" and innocents get crushed (for the most part). The reader might think that there's nothing these poor lads can do, but actually these people's struggle does get a payoff since the population gets fed up with both the Habsburgs and the villain. An uprising starts and his castle gets besieged. He can no longer send twenty guys after one schmuck in a village where everyone is too scared to resist when said village grew so resentful they'd rather fight to the death.

    In fact, it was "Holy" because the ruler was supposed to receive his power from God himself and the authority was given by the pope. It was "Roman" as Charlemagne restituted the legacy of the Western Roman Empire and co-existed with Papal State which was based in Rome. Moreover, the "Western Roman Empire" was recreated while there was no Basileus in Byzantine Empire (which btw. wasn't called that way at the time, it's the term created by modern historians - Byzantion was the name of the city before it became Konstantinoupolis). It was an Empire from a legal point of view because (not always of course) there was an Emperor. Actually, we could say it was more of an Empire than the Roman Empire as the ruler of Rome was never called an emperor at the times. It was either Princeps, Dominus or Augustus and Romans of I - V centuries never called themselves an Empire (in their heads they still were a republic and they never heard of the political changes that took place at the time of Augustus). I know it's only theoretical and it was a way to legitimze the power but it was real from a legal point of view. There was even another type of crown reserved for the emperor, which was supposed to exalt him above kings (who could be vassals of the emperor like the king of Bohemia).
    I know these are just terms that were used for politics and there was nothing "roman" or "holy" (HR Emperors were often excommunicated) in Sacrum Imperium Romanum. This remains an interesting case because it shows how timeless the Roman power was and how it shaped Europe - there was a balance formed of Eastern and Western "Roman Empire". It also shows that it was the ultimate and highest form of power for one person - Napoleon was an "emperor", Russia became a Tsardom, Ottomans claimed they were an empire and none of the above was like the Roman Empire.
    Apart from that, great job with the reconstruction. I'm looking forward to make one in the future and I know how much work it is. For now I need to get a better PC...

    1:07 1. Swiss Mercenaries were highly sought after throughout history. From the Romans hiring germanic Alemanni tribesman as Auxiliary to 19th century europe.
    Late middle ages was their zenith. Their pike and halberd tactics, discipline and fighting spirit made them such formidable opponents. The most common tactic to deal with them was NOT to engage in close combat. And just use ranged weapons and kill all of them from afar. As their tactics of using square formations and using two handed weapons. Therefore not having any shields. Made ranged weapons quite effective.
    So having them pictures with those large shields is historically quite incorrect.
