- 🔥In this episode of the London Something Podcast , hosted by DJ Ron , Brazilian-born DJ Marky shares his inspiring journey from growing up in a small room with his family to becoming one of the biggest DJs in Brazil and taking the UK music scene by storm.
Marky talks about how he and his friends started throwing parties in garages from the age of 10 in nearby favelas, and how he credits DJs like DJ Patife, Marcus Intellect, JJ Frost, Bryan Gee, DJ Hype and DJ Friction for helping him along the way. He also shares personal stories about his family, including his fear for his father's safety as a police officer and his mother's encouragement through buying him one record per good school report.
This is the real rags-to-riches story of the young man who brought Jungle/ D&B to São Paulo, became one of the biggest DJs in Brazil, then came and took the UK scene by storm with his particular style of DJ mixes and music production.

Marky is such a likeable person. I really enjoyed learning about his journey and experiences. I must say, Ron you have a skill of interviewing. Music has always been one of our best exports in the UK and it has linked us up with the rest of the world.

@@LondonSomething1994 You are capturing the essence of why we all love music and what it's all about. No matter what walk of life we come from music brought us together. The sound always encompassed an international and multiracial outlook. I don't think any scene in the UK has managed to replicate that. It's incredibly powerful.

I forgot to see this interview last year...today made me trip to the past
the garare parties, tapes recorded of jungle and hardcore of markys radio show in 90's (i was 12)
a huge hits like king of the jungle, original nutta, out of space, sweet vibrations....bad company was insane when he played!!!
i went a lot of parties to see him , specialy LOV.E CLUB and SKOL BEATS in São Paulo.

Listening to Marky speak just makes me grin from ear to ear! Saw him at the Honeycomb in Edinburgh and it's still the best night I ever went to! Every time he dropped a couple of bars of filth into some beautiful liquid you could see heads go up in the crowd like meerkats "did he just play that?? Is it coming??" The anticipation and variety made the night incredible and totally follows what he says here.

Said it before and I say it again, everytime I see Marky in an interview I just wanna go day drinking and vibes with the dude. One of the very best on decks as well. From '99 til I stopped raving regular around '07ish he was superb. Different selction to the other headliners and mixing so smooth. Big up Marky everytime.

I was at pure science when i first even heard of Marky and a Brazilian scene when he did a set there. Det and Fearless on with him. Great set.
When I heard him sample Jorge Ben and flip it nicely, I became a fan. Like 20 or so years ago.
Love this interview. So good to learn how the music made it's way to Brazil in the early 90s. It never dawned on me at the time. Big ups Marky and Ron.

LK is in my Top 5 of all time, say what u want but when the instrumental was on dub in 01 every dj (other than Marcus) was all over it.
I remember getting a promo copy in black market records and being so gassed. One of my fondest DJ related moments
Innerground 100 launch party at peckham audio. 4 hours of marky, cant complain by any means but the best bit was 20 minutes towards the end of the night was handing GQ my phone requesting some Intalex be played and immediately Marky provided How You Make Me Feel. Such a great blend, it was a truly electrifying moment for me and hopefully (presumably) everyone else as well. I struggle to put into words what this moment meant to me. None will top Marky and Intalex for me

I saw him play a few times at Mass. Always smashed it and he always looked like he was having the time of his life. Could have sworn the first time was in 98 though. Maybe i'm just getting old.
