Saw Goldie and LTJ drop science in Detroit last year at Movement. Blessed to have been there! I just saw Bad Company (Maldini) in Chicago last night and I am charged! The culture is still here and I love it! For some reason I am just now seeing these interviews but I am so happy they are here for my viewing pleasure. Once again, thanks, DJ Ron for uncovering all this history for all of us passionate junglists.
See this is an interview which benefits those of us who were tape collectors due to being kids at the time. Never until now would I think that DJ Ron and Goldie might have misunderstood one another cos they're both the archetypal junglists of the early 90s to many of us... Ron used to spin for Congo Natty long before he was known as Congo Natty, whereas Goldie was a crazy aerosol scientist who was the heart of Reinforced Records, the most out-there label pushing jungle music at the time, in terms of genetic modification. I get the sense that there was conflict between the organic junglists focusing on roots and a junglist synthetic element craving a fusion of technology and with the soul in a totally progressive fashion, reminding itself that there was no fashion. This genre had united people from all walks of life so the Rufige and Metalheadz vibe was a mutant which I'm sure I'd have been shocked by, especially if I'd got a very strong Caribbean heritage. The West Midlands is a machine.
Massive love and respect from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Maryland ⛰️ 43 year old Junglist here , 23 years mixing and still at it 😤💪🩸
Goldie legend in the game met him when l was maybe 18 or 19 came to our town doing some spray painting and met 1 of his brothers back in 1999 at HMP lol when l was young and stupid but ye goldie topman in the game first 1 of these ive watched so gonna catch up and get these watched respect RON.....
Many thanks for this excellent podcast Ron .. being immersed in this music at the very beginning but getting frustrated with it over the years ,this deep dive into some of its main players brings back that feeling from the 90s
the thing i love about goldie, is how thoughtful he is. he is like a professor or scientist, always thinking and looking. whenever i hear him talk, i always think hes figuring out equations lol
Goldie is a phenomenal person . I met Goldies like 8 years ago doing graffiti at TATS CRU HQ in the South Bronx. I actually took a pic of Goldie doing a piece and the piece said (MOM).
Massive respect to DJ Ron ......love your interviewing style and humour the show are so informative and give me a deeper overstanding of a scene I'm involved in and love ....keep up the great works ....peace
PRISM is one of the greatest tunes I have ever heard - It's a masterpiece of drum n bass - Kicks, builds, drops, grooves...Wish all DnB was like it. There are a few names I always drop talking about Jungle and Goldie, Rufige Crew* , FoulPlay, Omni Trio, Doc Scott are always mentioned... Artists!
Thanks man and really good idea too. We have a schedule o re run snippets lined up as promotion to the upcoming new series, so I look forward to sharing these v soon.
What you'll need to make a hot toddy: 35ml of whisky - this can be a single malt but is actually better being a blend for a more robust flavour. 1 tbsp (Scottish) Honey Sugar Two slices of lemon Cloves 100-200ml of hot water - depending on how strong you want it. A glass with a handle - or even a mug [Optional if you want to experiment] A stick of cinnamon (for an extra hit of spice) Star anise (for extra sharp flavour to help clear the airways) Peated whisky (for those who prefer smoky flavours) Rum or gin (for those of you who don't want to use whisky)
Can never get my head round how G bowed down to the Babylon (the royal family) and with it dnb music. I will never forget how the establishment went to war with the scene and tried to end us...
I hear you on this. I have thought about this and have a feeling that Goldie somehow doesn't make the calculation that the royal family and the monarchy are bad people and somehow respects them. Either that or he totally does get it and he's pretending to be happy and grateful and 'play them', which some may say may be a smart move because that way he doesn't ruin his reputation and livelihood by contesting and challenging them, because they have the money, power and influence to destroy a Person and their reputation. Personally, i would never bow to them. No chance
He isn't talking about the artist Peshay...it's slang😂 Someone who acts like an eshay*, but does not do anything...like the the typical couch surfer that doesn't do anything at all. *= A member of an Australian youth subculture favouring sportswear and electronic dance music, and commonly associated with criminal activity. Goldie even says he doesn't want to be disrespectful to the artist right after his statement.
Its absolutely discgraceful. From what I heard, he fell out with Peshay because he couldn't control him. Peshay went his own way. And, if he is what Goldie suggests he is here, why was Peshay one of only 2 people (at the time) to remix anything on Timeless? Smells of some serious sour grapes to me.
Goldie has done the rounds recently with the 25 year anniversary, but this interview is the so good, personal and free flowing. Ron brought out so much I didn’t know about Goldie, it’s a beautiful thing🌻
Can I ask you guys, what you think about raves nowadays compared to 92/93/94 ? The sets are completely different and the vibe seems to be completely different also Because it was such a unique brilliant era
The 90’s shits all over the new skool for me. I was born in 88 so was way to young and missed the whole scene. But after delving into the early hardcore, theres nothing that beats it. Not even jungle was as good as hardcore in my opinion. Hardcore had it all.
@@coolinism for some reason its not letting me copy and paste the link on here, youtube keeps deleting it. Have you got an email address i can send it to mate ?
I love the scene but goldie killed that !!!!! I’m sorry but it’s true . He watered down the music to fit in and sold his soul the record companies wishes . Right down to the music being watered 😢
Oh okay ....."kids are aggy on the road cos no one's listening" ...Well what are they saying ? They talk bollocks mostly! They give zero respect yet are entitled and expect it!

Well observed. 💯
not to split hairs here but I'd say Goldie was AT the heart of Reinforced at that period of time ; he wasn't the heart per se.

Appalachian music , stolen for the blues!

The sign of genius - 100% agree. He is a creative genius and visionary. (And a right good laugh...)
Creative brain. He used to be a grafitti artist and a very talented one too.
This is hands down one of the best interviews i've ever seen.. but Ron, how have you never heard of a hot toddy??? 🤣
