Big up Kenny Ken, proper legend. Great to hear all your stories ❤️
One thing I'll say about lockdown. I was out raving from 92 to 08, then I had kids. Didn't go to a rave in all those years. After lockdown, I thought life's too short. Now I like to go out raving every couple of months and it's rejuvenating to get back. I don't give a F that I'm older, it's AWOL and the youngsters new to the jungle dnb scene show respect. That's what the scene was always about despite the dark years post 95. Once a raver always a raver. Much love all Jungle Kru!

    Ken
I met you in a club in Shaftesbury Avenue, with Carl from kickin records.
You played my tune on kiss fm I’m 97 for the first time on the airwaves.
After raving at the Paradise club every week since the beginning I finally got to hear MY tune played by you.
Mental health tore me down and only now realised your troubles as I thought that the you of all people didn’t have any.
Now I totally understand that I was just normal, growing up in Peckham a ghetto with shit going on.
And all I wanted to do was make music which brought people together.
Big love and massive respect to you Kenny Ken, good long time friend.
From the heart, you inspired a scene which is still to this day loved by millions and always loved by me.
Maybe one time we will meet so I can show my appreciation and to the one, the only….Kenny Ken ❤️

Ok I will admit it, I cried when Ken talked about his ex partner passing away.
These guys were my Marvel super hero's in the early and mid nineties.
My hairs were literally standing on end when Ron and Kenny talked about Groove and Randall from a technical viewpoint, because it was the same way we used to talk about all of them!
    Keep this shit coming please.

Man me too. Lost a lot of people myself in the past 2 years. Got into drum and bass in '97. I was 17 then. I'm 42 now and things like this make mortality... life... it's precious yet fleeting and those who carry us through tough times won't always be there and vice versa.
The best part of this interview is the level of humanity. We always think our heroes have had such an easy life. Typically far from the truth. Bless you Kenny and Dj Ron for this. One day we will all Rage In Heaven!😊

    Sarsaparilla Don, DJ Ron!!!!
I saw a snip of the Hype interview and had to watch the whole thing. Completely hooked by this series. Started from the beginning and working my way through.
Didn't realise Kenny Ken was a real "bad man" in his youth. In a way, I'm glad he got chinned and realised crime wasn't the way for him no more.
It's hard to imagine that the people that bring so much to us through music have everyday normal lives and everyday issues.
The Rap episode was a big eye opener to the downwards spiral and thankfully, the belt snapped. You wouldn't think it from her amazing smile that she had big demons.
It's mad to hear the struggles, troubles and stories of how you all had to make it when nowadays it seems that anyone with a set of decks and a camera can become a DJ.
Big love to you and the rest of the crew for the dedication you all put it in to give us moments of musical heaven❤
Can't wait to hear your story Ron.

@@LondonSomething1994 Many a great night hearing Kenny Ken at AWOL, mainly. I love hearing about the backgrounds of these legends of the scene. It brings a lot more context and depth to their character than just being a DJ. The thing I love about DJS like Kenny Ken is that they are very humble. Your podcasts really uncover the depths to their characters. Kenny Ken is very generous. He played for free at my mates 21st birthday party at his parents house in Huntingdon in 94. My mate was good friends with Kennys driver. He could have charged a fortune at that time. He was really cool with it and put on a great set. A true professional. Keep up the good work Ron. Think you know my mate Vincent Clohessy. He's from your manor.

These episodes keep getting better slowly getting through them.
Kenny ken a absolute legend along with all the others old skool d.j's
I raved from 92-95 then kinda fell of the scene went on to the garage thing but one thing's for sure only jungle / drum n bass ravers know how to rave
I once went to a garage rave at the que club in birmingham where i also went to jungle raves.
Boi i was bored shitless at the garage rave after the 1st 2 d.j's had played i was ready to bounce and go home unlike the jungle/drum n bass d.j's each would play a different set and play fredh tunes that the crowd would go menatl with.
Nowadays at the tender age of 50 the closes i get to that feeling of a rave is either driving back home late at night or if im in the gym running on tredmill then once the tunes kick in i go mental running faster until after when i stop and the aches and pains kick in 😂😂

This is great! Fantastic work, Ron. Been a long time since first listening to one of your Roast sets on a tape when I was at school. I remember exactly where I was when I heard that tape and it quickly got copied and shared around, your name was the talk of the school haha. Looking forward to digging into the other videos!

These interviews are so good Ron! Probably the best I've seen for the Jungle and D&B scene. Yourself and Kenny also played an important role in my love of Jungle developing as a young teenager in the '90s. My first ever Jungle tape was Kenny at Vibealite in '94 and then I still remember to this day being at a house party in Wales and my friend and myself turning off the music so we could turn the radio on to listen to your Essential Mix on Radio 1 in '95! I think it was the first ever Jungle Essential Mix if I remember right?....On the radio note, why does nobody ever mention One in the Jungle? Being based in Wales we had tapes from the raves and that but One in the Jungle every Thursday night was all we had for Jungle on the radio. Some legendary bits from Stevie Hyper on those shows. Big ups Ron. Please keep these podcasts going!

Used to tune in to One in the Jungle every week, and being in Bristol it was always about recording the Roni Size and Krust Galaxy 101 sets.
