Ron, these interviews are absolutely fascinating. Never knew much about Voltage though I know some of his music. What a great insight into his upbringing and growth as a person and in the scene. Well done Ron, for opening up the scene and having a more in depth look
Voltage speaks for a generation of us who were just too young to experience the rave scene before the criminal justice bill pushed all the events into alcohol shops when the vibes were so high that you could see them via the tapes we were listening to on our Walkmans at school with no actual footage readily available like now. You could literally hear how colourful it was in the jungle techno era of Fantazia, Obsession, Helter Skelter and ESP raves. 😂
This interview brings out elements of social history worthy of making films and documentaries. Credit to DJ Ron for this interview. I've got nothing but respect for Voltage, his heritage and music legacy.
Brilliant interview Ron I also have a background with horses and the travelling community I have been called steptoe all my life and had the same experiences as voltage but it just makes you stronger 💪 big up voltage . At the age of 12 I was out at work ,and selling fruit and veg of a horse and cart at 14 lost my mum to cancer and had to work to feed my family as my dad had lost the plot, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger one love
Rouen is such a legend, met him before a set in Nottingham and he seemed proper down to earth, and willing to talk to fans of his music. This interview only compounds my previous experience. Big up
Yes bro, big up dj Ron for these podcasts, would love to see a dj guv interview, I grew up in the same area as him (London fields) and remember hearing him playing jungle in 95 from his yard in late 94/early 95! I remember when he first got on kool fm and how things changed drastically for him in a matter of months.....
I love voltage anyway but to hear his background and entrance to the scene is awesome. We need so much more of this from the artists. As for the performing travelling community with the fairgrounds, voltage is spot on. We got talking to a group in Weston-super-Mare one year after they shut their rides in a pub. Preconceptions make such a difference and you should never judge because I never felt so welcomed and never put my hand in my pocket for a drink. They refused for me to buy them a round.
Honest to fucking god. These interviews are something else… This has been the best one so far, and that’s saying something. Ron you give off such a great rapport to your guests. Great work!
One of the best dnb interviews I've seen on the 'personal journey' tip. There's nothing better than an authentic voice with something different to share and credit to Ron - it's all about leaving enough space for the story to be told. Really worthwhile interview - cheers.
Voltage has all way been my favourite Dj /producer since I can remember every time he drops a new tune I just love it don’t think he’s dropped one that I wasn’t feeling ever that’s why he’s my goat
Great interview Ron. I probably bumped into Voltage in Record Basememt. Like Voltage I couldn't believe my luck when I ended up working just down the road in 94. Used to be down there most lunch times, chatting with Lee, Gwange. I'm sure Q Project from Total Science was there at some point too. Amazing story about his death defying experience. Brought tears to my eyes that one. What a game changer eh! It's really interesting to hear about how he completely left music from his teens to where he is now. Follow your passions and love as they say. Its made me think seriously about how I want to spend my next years. I've got some unresolved things to try in regards to music that I would definitely regret if I didn't at least try. I sometimes think I missed it all but Voltages story gives me a different perspective. I think it's brilliant that you bring the questions to bring these areas to light Ron. There is so much depth and weight to your interviews that wouldn't be there if you did just a standard interview about the here and now. On a side note I used to go on the Dive Bomber fayre ground ride he was talking about. What a ride that was!
i was lurking around the Record Basement in Reading at a similar time. This was when the record basement was in Station Road before it moved to London Rd. Remember DJ Lee and MC Milky (RIP) working in there
Wow!! This interview is fucking amazing !! Excuse my language. Back in 2006 I was playingTherapy sessions with Dylan and the Freak Records family … it’s crazy to think that Voltage wasn’t even around then . Now look at him !! This is so awesome
Such a good pod 💚 Iv been working my way through the back catalog of shows (starting with the ones I wanted to watch cos they were heads I knew from 15/20 years ago , I didn’t know who voltage was 👀🤦♂️ and I still haven’t herd him mix and I don’t know his tunes 🙌 but now I want to , thanks for all your work Ron ✌️
I know the post Doc wrote. Pretty sure it was right when the new Playaz ep dropped. Doc said something like “Voltage always hits home runs” Every release is gold
Thanks Ron for bringing in somebody of my generation, I hope Voltage is the first of many, although it'd be great to see more of the Generation X as well of course. From the 2000s I'd love to see interviews with K Motionz, Hedex, from the 1990s, Tim Reaper, Macky Gee, from the 1980s, Logan D, Crissy Criss from the 1970s Ratty, Doc Scott, from the 1960s Fabio, Grooverider, from the 1950s, Bassman and Five O and from the 1940s Flinty Badman and Deman Rockers if possible.
1940s 😂! Things is these podcasts are not primarily about artists careers, they are about the challenges they've faced that they've over come to be an artist. Choosing them therefore is based on my any prior knowledge I have of their lives before music and how that impacted them, their family's and lastly their careers.
Very neat, taking on this type of responsibility at a young age reminds me of farming communities (but obviously mobile instead of stationary). Learning to drive, build, tear down, etc. Super neat.
He’s such a sound humble guy and from when I used to rave I watched him explode! When he dropped respect due that was when I was out every weekend on some crazy bender but from how he moved was insane! Had the pleasure of going to a little festival with some friends and getting a random lift home at 06.00 in the morning after night at Lakota 🤣 fully rate him and love his outfits!
Interesting you say Respect Due and not Hard Going (as part of Cabin Fever). You couldn't hear a drums set at a rave (squat) without hearing that tune for some time! (I haven't listened to the interview yet as maybe Respect Due is mentioend at some point)
As others have said, a brilliant series of interviews Ron such a brilliant idea to do. My question is will you be Interviewed, So we can here your story, as I'm sure many would like to know. Namaste.
Awesome interview ron Id personally love to hear from men like shocking b ,mc moose, navigator, ash a tak, profile , five o , some of the old heads i used to rave to at astoria rex and bagleys Be interesting to hear what they think of modern dnb and raves and hear their stories
Thank you. Am really pleased you’re enjoying them and thanks for the support. We’re heavily into pre production of the next 10 episodes so look out for the start of those this month.
I knew nothing of voltages history before the interview, extremely interesting and you have a real talent for drawing out really deep personal life stories from people. Thank you and please continue with the quality content.
Love how good ,honest and interesting all of the interview are turning out , the different ways of life and upbringings of the artists just go's to prove music can take hold of anyone . Superbly done . Fingers crossed for ltj bukem.
Same age as voltage - listening to tapes, radio and our jungle heroes but not being able to get to a rave always had me wishing I was born 5 years earlier, but managed to get to them from age 16 lol
These are great Ron, can’t believe I only just found them now. Is this one a contest to see who has the whitest trainers?? Would love to see Rupert Parkes, J Malik, Bukem, DJ Storm, Lemon D and Ed Rush interviewed in a similar style!
remember you Ron on your first debut at Sunday roast Turmills. Great mates with Paul Roast and Chris Bunter Hughes (RIP). Paul had many originals of the scene at The Roast. I've a new book out 'The Council Estate Kid ' The Chronicles of Dodger by Stephen J English on Amazon KDP publishing. Growing up on The Surrey lane estate Battersea where Atlantic sounds come from. Its about community and the knock next door for a cup of sugar generation.
Every interview is movie worthy.... imagine a Netflix series with all the dudes interlinked in the while sence ffs from the very beginning to current times..

Its true, and to think that there are actually generations of Junglists who entered at different times is an amazing thing in itself.
This interview brings out elements of social history worthy of making films and documentaries. Credit to DJ Ron for this interview. I've got nothing but respect for Voltage, his heritage and music legacy.
Agreed.
Someone needs to make a film out of his life
Love these interviews. Would love to hear from Randall, Dillinja, Ed Rush and Fierce
