What a cool shop. My kind of place. Owned by a chap who loves model railways and people. When I was in the hobby about 45-50 years ago, I did business with similar shop in Bakersfield, Ca. We didn't have Internet in the 1970s. If I was in the hobby today, I would still go to model railway shops. We need to keep our Main Street ( High Street) for my UK readers, going. Thank God I live in Belgium, my wallet couldn't bear it😜 I love these shops, and people might under estimate how important these are to keep the hobby going. And what I think makes this a very good modelshop is that they sell secondhand as well, and there is an after service. Not everyone is gifted with skills to repair stuff, and that's where good shops like these ones come in. And it's a shop for everyone's budget, that's important, giving people with low budgets a chance to also find joy and an escape from the stress full world we live in is a social benefit. And there are plastic kits, I use to build them a lot, and I had a good mentor in making them, it was for me a very good school for painting techniques. And perhaps the most important lesson I learned at the time, is take your time and go for perfection, and be open to negative critique. A lot of people can't stand critique, I agree with them if it's done to humiliate you. But on the other hand, if they always say that's good, it will give you a false impression, where you think you're good, where in reality you're not. And that's where a good mentor comes in, he will say in your face when it's rubbish, but then learns you at the same time how to do it correct, it can bee emotional hard, but once you get over that, the benefit evolves you the a top model builder. The amount of spitfires I build to learn, is beyond, I think the RAF never had so many spitfires🤣 But in the end it didn't bring me wind eggs, which brings us to the topic of today, Happy Easter everyone. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing another wonderful support your local model railway shop 😊 your doing a great job 👍 the world needs people like your channel so well done both of you, keep the videos coming regularly 😊 Anyway on another note I love model railway shops like this especially the ones that still sell second hand stuff, it's a lot better then buying brand new items as you well know can be really pricey these days sadly to say. Yes I really enjoy this shop, might have to pop over to Manchester one day and have a good look around, and it's nice to see a friendly owner who seems very knowledgeable about everything in the shop, which is really good. Anyway on a bit of jokey banter 😂 it's bloody typical "Well Chuffed" here's me collecting Model Pacer units OO and finding them difficult to get hold of, and this chap goes and has three of them for sale!!!!!!!! Will be attending Buxton railway show soon this year, as it's local to me, plus a great bus service from where I live too on both days which is good 😊 on another note, it was lovely to see one of the old Woodhead Electric locos for sale too, the Woodhead railway is one of my favourite past time lines, and I have a great interest in the line too, nice to know that a bit of the railway line still exists today in the Manchester area and in the Sheffield area too, sadly when I was born the railway closed 😢it would of been a lovely journey too? And even a CO-BO diesel too!!!!!! Never seen one model railway scale before, apparently there's a real one at the East Lancashire Railway heritage centre being done up and hopefully running again, at one time I remember it being stored in a Railway shed just a few yards away from Matlock Town Railway Station back in the 1980's. Anyway sorry for rambling on, I'm autistic and sometimes can't shut up!!!! Lol 😂 but it's who I am and not changing myself in anyway. Anyway on another note on the subject of supporting your local model railway shop, not sure if you've already done this one in past video's? Hi, most model shops in the UK have a good supply of second hand models, many are Lima, no doubt due to their durability. Thanks for watching and all the best Rick
WOW 🤩 I can’t believe I’m seeing Jim on RUclips 👍🏻 I’ve known Jim for many many years even before his shop at swap meets. He’s helped me out many times and hopefully when I start building my layout again after moving house 🏡 Top guy Jim 👍🏻
Wow, what a fantastic shop and business. His stock is second to non. The owner is doing an amazing job with operating in what are difficult times. Well done will definitely visit shop and check out his website.
There used to be a great model shop where I live in Wigan. Used to visit the shop many times during the early-mid 90s with my dad when he built a loft model 00 gauge railway, later we built one in our garden after we moved. The shop moved twice but closed around the late 90s (I think) and I've heard it was forced to close because the council put the rent up and they were unable to afford to run it. This is what council's do when they don't want shops like this around they force them out of business. The last model shop I visited was at Westhoughton. Not many around now.
Shame that's another one to add to all the ones lost. We had in Oldham where I grew up albeit one was more of a toy shop. Good memories of them both. Thanks for watching Rick
@wellchuffedrailways I know they used to be everywhere. I suppose some will argue the decline is because of the internet making online more cheaper to run a business, or that it's due to the decline in model railway enthusiasts, and most people just aren't interested in things like that as a hobby, it's become a close knit kind of hobby where most people regard it as abit anarak-ish. I do think the council's have played their part in their decline by deliberately pushing these shops out from the high street because they don't see them as being profitable and because they know it's something some people actually can enjoy visiting that puts a smile on their face, they just want shops that are all about pushing consumerism. Noone likes the counil they are just scum IMO.
I’ve only been in once when I was in the area. I found Jim a really likable fella who was happy to help. I couldn’t believe the stock they had. I’ll be going again. 👌👌👌👌👌
We visited yesterday and received an incredible warm welcome from Jim and Paul .Paul makes a great cuppa. I went with the intention of buying that station building and got it at a great price .It presents me with challenge of converting /refurbishment instead of resorting to scratch building .Highly recommended for a visit.
@@wellchuffedrailways Yes it will be for my new layout that I will be starting once the house refurbished . I'll be sending Jim pictures once I have restored the station .
A super model shop. I don't think we have anything like it in Bristol except Antics. Saw many things I already have and loads I would like to have. Thank you for sharing. Regards Paul.
I wish we had the shops here in the states stocked full of trains like you guys do in the UK. There's a few here that specialize in trains but a lot of them, trains are just a side business, maybe half the store (other half is R/C or gaming). I think I could spend hours in places like these!
In Franfurt/Main, Germany, we had some 30 shops specialized on Modelrailroads in the 1960ies. Guess how many we have today? Right: one and that is only a pale shade of what was normal then. The the metro area there are 3 now left over from over 100 in 1965.
Great shop. I would love to patronize my local model shop, but I don’t really have one worthy of the name. The closest one (five hours away) used to be good, but the last time I talked to the owner at a model train show he informed me that o scale was on its way out and that I should just buy a digital HO setup from him. So, I will just stick with online orders ….
Hi, I've bought unboxed coaches and the like from here way back before we started RUclips. I can only report as I find and I have no complaints! Many thanks for watching , Rick
No bobby no mention but wow what a shop if not to shop in you could hide in there i would not want to leave the place in fact i am going to phone them about something thank you rick and pauline from Pete.
Hi Pete, this was filmed before you asked for a mention, you will have to wait until next Sunday's Toy fair video. Glad you enjoyed the video it sure is a great shop and I'm glad you are giving them a ring. All the best Rick.

The yellow wagon was a Lima O gauge continental model of Reefer, labled for SILLAN which is an italian chemical and power generating company owned by edison.
I'm sure if you advertised your "Well Chuffed Railways" channel more on social media your subscriber base would grow, especially with these model shop videos. Regards Barry.
Hi Barry, we have a Facebook group funnily called "Well Chuffed Railways" and the subscriber base is slowly growing but we have never asked for subscribers as that does get annoying. We are very time limited due to having full-time jobs with long hours. As most of our content is shot on location one video takes a while day of filming. The editing process will usually be at least a couple of hours 3, 4 or 5 days a week. With that workload our channel will never be a huge one. However we are happy with our lot and glad to be contributing to the hobby whilst asking for nothing in return. We do appreciate all your comments and feedback and all we can ask is that you spread the word. All the best Rick.
A fantastic model shop! Unfortunately more and more model shops are disappearing and all over Europe. People prefer to shop online. And the shops have their own soul. You can talk to and get advice from the shop owner.
I dont no about other hobbies but the way bachmann hornby and now dapol and heljan are going with there prices alot more model shops like this will disappear from our streets hobby's are becoming to expensive for those who are on low income even second hand models are getting to expensive which is a shame these companies are pricing there self's out the British market,😢😢,
Smaller retailers need to become a co-op and pressure manufacturers for fairness. The monopoly larger enterprises by Rails of Sheffield and others means new releases and favourites cannot be stocked in smaller shops. It’s unfair and needs to stop.

We visited yesterday and received an incredible warm welcome from Jim and Paul .Paul makes a great cuppa. I went with the intention of buying that station building and got it at a great price .It presents me with challenge of converting /refurbishment instead of resorting to scratch building .Highly recommended for a visit.
Hi Garth, congratulations on purchasing that station! It looked huge in the shop so it must look massive on a layout! Thanks for watching Rick
@@wellchuffedrailways Yes it will be for my new layout that I will be starting once the house refurbished . I'll be sending Jim pictures once I have restored the station .
Looks like a real Aladdin’s Cave. 👍
Certainly is!
@@wellchuffedrailways but what did you buy is the question?
Am defo in there on my travels. Looks amazing. Well done surviving 👍🏆🇬🇧
That's great, make sure you spend loads! 😀
Great shop and great staff
Couldn't agree more!
Love those model shops.
We almost do not have them here in the Netherlands
Unfortunately we have lost so many in recent years. Cheers Rick
That's what you call a model shop!! Lovely 👍 It's a pity it's not in Belfast.
Fantastic , I could spend all day in there.
We did! 😀
A super model shop. I don't think we have anything like it in Bristol except Antics. Saw many things I already have and loads I would like to have. Thank you for sharing. Regards Paul.
Thanks for watching Paul
Amazing and a hundred times better than buying on line. (no pun intended).
Agreed and the pun is appreciated!
I wish we had the shops here in the states stocked full of trains like you guys do in the UK. There's a few here that specialize in trains but a lot of them, trains are just a side business, maybe half the store (other half is R/C or gaming). I think I could spend hours in places like these!
We have shops that are exclusive trains but many have a smaller section for cars and kits. All the best Rick
Another superb video, what a fascinating shop. You should treat yourself to that Metro Vickers Co-bo
It's a model I really want and thankfully they are easy to find. Unfortunately that one was 3 rail. Thanks for watching Rick
I admire you, I couldn't make any profit selling model railway gear, and switched to Wargaming, and even that's a struggle
Hi Graham, we keep everything we buy but we might need a bit more space!
In Franfurt/Main, Germany, we had some 30 shops specialized on Modelrailroads in the 1960ies. Guess how many we have today? Right: one and that is only a pale shade of what was normal then. The the metro area there are 3 now left over from over 100 in 1965.
Wow that's a huge loss.
I wish I had a local
Model shop the nearest model shop is far.
I live in Middleton - I will have to pay you a visit when I have some spare cash !!
We had 2 similar model shops in Preston now we have nothing....
May go here. ❤️
You won't be disappointed!
Looks like the original Hattons shop on Smithdown Rd.
Brilliant. Just like Aladdins cave.
This place needs a visit.
And another from us! 😀
Yep I do , a 10 minute walk for me . Eastleigh the railway town 😊
I need to visit this shop. Just started a new layout. Was delayed cutting the baseboards, but got there now.
Good luck with the layout and you won't be disappointed with the Locoshed.
@@wellchuffedrailways Thanks, I will try and get up there soon.
Its just a short trip on the tram to the loco shed for me. and trust me Jim is a Diamond.
best model shop in Manchester ❤
That's a shame and 0 gauge is thriving! Cheers Rick
Great to hear all ok
I do RC model planes and go to the model shop in Frodsham - and also get a cup of T everytime.
Brilliant.
I am an ex-model shop owner - I do hope this shop in Manchester use peelable adhesive price labels on their items!!
Hi, I've bought unboxed coaches and the like from here way back before we started RUclips. I can only report as I find and I have no complaints! Many thanks for watching , Rick
I looked all over, there aren`t any such shops in Manchester N.H. or Concord.
That's a shame. Hope you come across one within traveling distance.
All the best Rick.
great video guys thanks for this video have been wanting to get to this model shop for ages but just dont have the time at the moment it looks amazing will try and get there one day
Definitely worth a visit! It was one of the first shops I visited when I got back into the hobby. Even took Bobby with me! Cheers Rick
Lima lover's delight!
@@wellchuffedrailways Thank you for your reply🙂
Nick video 😊😊😊
Thanks very much 😀
A fantastic model shop! Unfortunately more and more model shops are disappearing and all over Europe. People prefer to shop online. And the shops have their own soul. You can talk to and get advice from the shop owner.
Well said. 😀
have you got the latest yellow Manchester metro-link trams? or the previous light blue ones?
All Bee Network yellow now. 👍
JPGR? John, Paul, George, Ringo maybe?
Interesting! 🎸
5.2K views speaks for itself.
Definitely a popular shop, we started filming before they opened but it was soon packed! All the best Rick
I dont no about other hobbies but the way bachmann hornby and now dapol and heljan are going with there prices alot more model shops like this will disappear from our streets hobby's are becoming to expensive for those who are on low income even second hand models are getting to expensive which is a shame these companies are pricing there self's out the British market,😢😢,
Unfortunately everything is increasing apart from our wages! All the best Rick
Do you do pre owned sets ?
Hi, I'm sure they will have some, please use the contact email or phone number in the video details. Cheers Rick
You COMPLETELY ignored the N Gauge items !! Grrrr
We will get them on the next visit. 😀
Smaller retailers need to become a co-op and pressure manufacturers for fairness.
The monopoly larger enterprises by Rails of Sheffield and others means new releases and favourites cannot be stocked in smaller shops. It’s unfair and needs to stop.
Interesting point and one I will raise when we next see some retailers. Thanks Rick
... Hope someone don't Try Spoil this Shop.... 'Tis the Season Unfortunately 3:39
