    Hi Rick & Pauline, thank you for the video, loved your face Pauline when Rick got the Blue Diesel book out🤣, I live in Cheadle heath, & where the Morrisons is now used to be Cheadle heath train station & on that line going towards Cheadle is the old station which is now a pub called the Cheshire line tavern, if your ever in that area you should pop in for a drink and a bite to eat, I highly recommend it, it also has a garden centre next door to it, cheers, Pete,👍

    No 37 as your favorite😱, this I didn't expect, are well Rick…?😂
    The most hilarious part in the video was when you sad "and some people say that all diesels look alike", the face expresion of pauline spoke without words🤣🤣🤣
    Although spending half my career on diesels, I never had a pasion for them, even before I became a train driver, as a kid steam trains appeal more to me.
    And I driven both of them, steam and diesel, and of course diesel driving on it self, in comparison to steam, is a completely different world, much cleaner and (comfortable).
    And comfortable is a big word, diesels up to the 90th where loud, dirty oil spilling and bad seating.
    They where so loud that under full throttle, if someone was with you, you had to shout to communicate (this resulted significant lost of hearing after many years, typical symptom for my generation of train drivers).
    The funny thing is, that when we have a reunion now and then (always at the same pub), the owner puts us apart from the rest of the customers, as we're so loud.😅
    The good thing about these early diesels was, they were simple, no electronics, all was electrical mechanical and very reliable.
    As a matter of fact the worst diesel I've ever driven was the Class 66/77, although these where not so noisy, and you had a good seat, but the death man's paddel sat at a wrong angle causing back pains on long trips (this is a pedel you have to push every so much seconds, if you did not the loco would go into emergency break).
    Also the electronics where a nightmare, moisture and vibration caused big problems, plus if you drive across borders in continental Europe, with all the different safety systems for each country, they often caused so much problems that they where really hated by train drivers and signalers.
    Also the breaks are really bad, specially without load, it would reduce your speed a lot to get to the required breaking distance.
    If it comes to real driving comfort, the last generation of electric loco's where the best, ergonomically, silent, airco, cruse control, even came with a fridge and a cooker for storing your lunch and heating it up.
    Anyway nice model collection, I only have two blue Hornby railroad (ex Lima)sound DCC fitted class 40's, where I do hope to swab the body of one for a green one, one day, as in not having two the same.
    I bought them at the time, and I think this was also Hornby's intention to get people familiar with DCC sound. But in the end I really didn't like sound to be honest, and makes your model way to expensive.
    Maybe it's nice for shows, but to me it sits in the same category as smoke generators, useless and unrealistic.
    cheers,
    Danny

      Hi Danny, yes I'm surprised Pauline didn't choose the 37 as her favourite. The Deltics with all their silver seem to have attracted the magpie in Pauline! All the best Rick

    Hi guys, that's a real nice collection of blue diesels. My favourites are the 37 & the 20, tho I would love a 87. All the best guys. Carl.

      @wellchuffedrailways  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Carl, the 87 is a very good Lima model and available in several liveries. Despite coming out in 79 I think it is one of Limas best. I remember my Dad buying me one around 1980-81. Since I got back into trains it was at the top of my list to buy. The model I have now was a £30 eBay buy in 2018. All the best Rick

    Hello, Pauline and Rick! Nice to see you both again and hope you are well. Fun video with nice clips from layouts. By any chance, on the two class 40s (???) with the UK flag, the second one shown had a much larger flag, and it even looked shiny/reflective. By any chance was that a post-purchase add-on??? Or, is it just a different company's interpretation. The first one just seemed "right," while the second one felt modified. Another great bit was showing the locos and going back to the footage of the old actual loco. Great stuff, as always! Cheers!

    • @wellchuffedrailways
      @wellchuffedrailways  Месяц назад

      The two class 47s are Lima models of different locos. Two 47s had union flags added for the Queen's Jubilee in 1977. I googled the locos and one of them definitely has a brighter flag along with a silver roof so it looks like these two are pretty accurate. Thanks as always Rick

    Hi Pauline and Rick! I am glad to see Bobby escaped out of the house but was recaptured by a trader, next time Bobby! I see Rick you have caught Pauline’s blue loco disease! Anyway another really great video, but please show a few green or red diesels next time, I was beginning to think the tide was coming in! I forgot to say I had a Triang class 77 (Electra) in blue and a blue diesel, I cannot remember the class, but it was Triang blue with a white roof and dummy middle wheels on the bogie. Harry

    Hi Pauline & Rick. A great video and I was always a steam enthusiast, as they were my Era. But I didn’t mind the odd Green Diesel class 20, 31, 08, 55s and so on. Now I admit that I do like many of the modern Era’s and I have 15 class 66 in OO gauge and I have a Dapol O gauge now on Preorder. Guess what it will be in the Green Evening Star livery ! How are you guys feeling about this then ? Regards from Ron 🚂🚝👍

      @@wellchuffedrailways I like your videos, as do others, due to your obvious passion and not being a model snob, like not having to have the latest greatest £300 super detailed monster but grabbing 30 year old Lima's because they have character or just appeal to the eye of spending a little more on a WREN because they are your passion, do love the bargain hunt section of your videos, never change the pair of you x

      Thank you very much Sarah, I do like the Wrenn models full of character and an interesting history with the carry over from Dublo to them being produced in tiny numbers until they closed down. We have several box folders of Wrenn documents which gives an insight into just how much they struggled through the years. Thanks again Rick

    I reckon Pauline could be swayed by a Class 17 in BR Blue. I think we're blessed with all the shades of BR blue; Lima BR blue, Hornby BR blue, Bachmann BR blue, all the shades.

    I was a child in the steam days and grew up to become a (diesel & electric [AC and DC] ) train driver until retirement. I can't stand steam engines and when I first started on the footplate nearly all of the 'old boys' still around back then who had had to work on steam engines hated them too. The most common thing you would hear them say was, "Bloody steam enthusiasts. They wouldn't be so damn keen if they had to get up at three O'Clock on a winters morning to go and work tender first in the frost and snow."
    Whenever you are at those shows I tend to ignore what YOU are looking at and I try to see what BR blue & grey stuff is visible in the background. I certainly agree that you give too much time to those bloody kettles and not enough time to the diesel and electric preference. So come on Rick, put your foot down and demand some balance 😉.
