    Is there anyway to hookup a little drip tray or pan underneath the griddle holes ? Just a thought , I have drip pans for my Weber Go Anywhere Gas Grill , I have Craycort Cast Iron Grates and a Griddle on it too . I just purchased a Weber Q1200 and I’m getting all the bells and whistles for it ! Thank you for the videos and all the time you spent putting them together and giving us all the information !

      Because this griddle plate is porcelain-enameled cast-iron, Weber says you do not have to season it. And you can wash it with hot soapy water.

    Fire Escape Griller We take ours camping all the time and it's fantastic. We just use the adapter hose and hook it up straight to the camper propane tank, no more waiting for coals to be ready!
    Also instead of the griddle we just stick a small iron skillet on the grill and still allows me to close the lid.

    Just got mine and very very very VERY hard to believe it is "porcelain coated". The grills are a very smooth shiny black and smooth to the touch, even looking
    at the few smooth spots, they even look smooth to they eye. This weber 6558 griddle is very dull and rough to the touch and even looks rough very close up with magnifying glass. When wiping with cloth or paper towel, it grabs fibers and they stick to it.
    ------- Did I get a bad one you think? Is everyone else's like that? How could the "porcelain" be so much different from the beautiful grates??
    Partly asking your opinion, partly venting obviously. :)

    • @GallaghersGrub

      I was a little surprised by the rough texture of the griddle as well, so you didn't get a bad one. I've cooked quite a bit on it now and it seems to work fine.

    If the griddle runs hot, do you preheat it at a lower temperature? Does it make a difference if you place the griddle on top of the grate instead of replacing the grate with the griddle? My griddle just came in the mail today. At the moment I’m waiting for it to cool down from being seasoned in the oven.

    • @GallaghersGrub
      @GallaghersGrub  5 лет назад

      I preheat it on low. I haven't tried placing it on top of the grates. I'm sure it would work but think it's best to use it in place of the grates as designed. It's a pretty cool griddle. Makes great smash burgers and bacon. Cheers!

    • @GallaghersGrub

      Yes. These griddle plates are porcelain coated cast iron. Meaning they don't have to be seasoned technically. Weber recommends washing them with warm/hot soapy water. Personally, I still like to hit mine with a touch of oil afterward. Either grapeseed or avocado oil.

    Good info. I want to buy the Q1200( the color choices and temp gauge are a plus) but according to Weber they do not offer a griddle for it and I really need one. They do offer one for the Q1000 that has the exact same size cooking surface. I'm waiting to hear from Weber to see if it will fit on the Q1200.

    • @GallaghersGrub
      @GallaghersGrub  4 года назад

      Do you smell gas? You may have a leak. I use the hose to a larger tank and a squirrel bit a hole in it.
      I would remove the burner tube completely and clean it out. There may be cobwebs or other blockages in there.
      Otherwise you may need a new regulator. My Q just got up to 500F yesterday and it's the same age as yours and has less BTUs than the 2200.
      Hope this helps.

      If it's been slow since you bought it, it may have a house gas jet installed. Otherwise the flame tube might want replacing. I do mine every couple of years or so. The holes do get slower as they gunk over. Lately I've been giving the burner holes an occasional rub over with "her" nail sand file thingy at the same time as tray change and degunk scrape. At a pinch ream out the gas jet a bit with a welding gas tip file. But don't tell anyone , the emotional ones go right off.

    It would be great to have your valued option of the reversable 'grillgrate' for a 'Q'. The holes should get more smoke. Not sure if they make a 'custom' fit made for 'Q'. Great video as always.

      Fire Escape Griller I've done a bit of research. This place do a perfect fit for the Weber 'go-anywhere' I think this is slightly smaller than the Q's griddle. www.grillgrate.com/grillgrates-for-the-weber-go-anywhere-grill/ on the left hand side there is a custom fit page. I got my grillgrate from USA adrenaline BBQ custom fit for Slow and sear. I used the 'flat' side this morning and cooked a Full English breakfast. No problems at all frying an egg with the holes. The breakfast came out great. Minimum grease issue due to holes. Recommend spraying with oil at beginning of cook. Highly recommend the 'grillgrate', love mine very versatile. Only negative is it comes in two parts that slot 'interlock' together, but that's okay. I guess you could cover say 75% of the real estate of the Q and cook for more (as per Weber advice, not 100%). Cheers!

      @@nigel8499 I agree that Grillgrates are awesome! I have a 3-piece set for my Q220. I use it on my smoker as well when I want to use lump coal. I also use both sides depending on what I want to cook.

    Good tips.
    Ground beef in sweden is almost always 90-10. So it works fine on a griddle, but burgers are not super juicy. Its why i try to grind my own as oftn as i can.
    And yes. Griddling increases bacon intake hehe. Impossible not to :)

      Try mixing 25-30% ground pork with your lean ground beef. Fold it in as gently as possible without over compressing the meat. My wife has done this for years and guests always ask where she buys her ground beef.She just smiles and says “at the butcher shop”.

      @@johnshuler8688 thanks for the tip. I do sometimes buy 50/50 here - but am weary about getting the burger cooked enough. Have started saving the fat from trimmings and mix in when i grind and that works really well thouguh :)
