    More will be on their way very soon.
    A tutorial on how to do very simple staff spinning, I'll be upping the ante on these at some point. And teaching some more advanced contact staff moves, along with some Poi moves too.
    the staff I got from firetoys and is a 120cm contact staff with a fibreglass grip.
    was made whilst waiting for my Hague MMC steadycam to show up, a review of that will be up ASAP.
    don't know who the ladder belonged to...

    I have been at this for about 4 days, thinking I was doing it correctly until I saw your video. The text you added into your video. "DON'T SWAP YOUR HANDS AROUND! Yes you. You know who you are." Made me realize I was doing it wrong. So thanks for that!!

    I just stumbled across this video again and I gotta say this was the origin point for me. I was trying to figure out how to start doing a basic rotor and your video is what helped make it all click. Thank you for this.

    Really wonderful tutorial. My best friend and husband spin poi so I wanted to learn staff. Having never picked up a staff before I got these down in hours. My hands and wrists are super mad at me, but otherwise, I feel awesome about it. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial! Can't wait for more great vids!

    I know this was a fad for many young people however I have just decided to do this and want to learn everything before I light a staff. People like you are saving me from being foolish in the things I will do. *Thank you very much for taking the time* to show people the basics and show me (us?) how to Be Safer.
    I wonder how much the local cops will freak out, and if having tons of safety measures in place will ease their concerns (large wet towel or blanket, bucket of water, fire extinguisher, hair pinned to my head, nowhere near anything flammable other than myself, etc, etc). In the middle west of the United States I must discover How Illegal this is :)

    Thank you so much. I am 17 and i am a very paranoid teen and i've turned to self defense to calm my fears. The bo-staff has become my favorite and best self defense tool and it helps when i find good teachers to show me how to do it right.

    I would recommend measuring from the floor to your shoulders for your first staff for the best length. I bought a fire staff off home of poi and it's weighted brilliantly. It's not too heavy, but is stable enough to control properly. If you where going to buy an LED staff there is home of poi, flow toys, and others if you search google for staffs/poi/fire equipment or light toys. Hope this helps. Happy spinning :)

    My friends do that! One of them does staff. They took me into the "team". They wanna teah me staff, cause the dude who does staff said later on that if I took the staff, lit it on fire and started doing stuff (slaps knee) the way I was, he saw some sort of connection between me and the staff so... They think I should be a busker with them. And do the staff...
    So I'm here :D I can already spin it side to side. Like from left hand to right and back

    SoManyNinjaRobotMen , When you teach how to rotor, is the beginning bit just a step to learning how to rotor properly? And when you say "we'll add another turn in by passing it over the thumb on the second hand" at 1:16, is that when you do a proper rotor?

    • @robjamesjunior
      @robjamesjunior 9 лет назад

      yeah, pretty much, at 1:16 you get the maximum spin for the least effort, I know rotor as a different move, but yeah.

    Hey mate, love the video! My first question is how do you determine what length staff is right for you? Im about 5'8 and recently got a 5" staff. Its a a little too long to do alot of the moves ive seen in your videos, well that could be my doubt talking also haha

    • @robjamesjunior
      @robjamesjunior 8 лет назад

      +Karen Yvonne hi both. there's things you need to consider. longer and heavier = better for contact, smaller = easier to spin. out of standard sizes I'd be tempted to go for a 1200mm /120 cm staff as it's the middle ground. if you want to play on expert get a smaller staff to start with. if you can do well with a smaller staff then when you upgrade to something bigger it'll be a lot easier.

    Can you do this using aikido staff? I only have aikido staff. I wonder if the rotation can be that smooth without using weight on its ends.

  • @barfitnessnz1072
    @barfitnessnz1072 8 лет назад

    does having weight at the ends of the stick play an important role in moves like these, or can they be done (By the proficient) on any stick/staff they pick up?

    • @robjamesjunior
      @robjamesjunior 8 лет назад

      The weights on the end will give you grip and also slow the staffs 'roll'. The longer the staff the slower it will spin. I'm sure that anyone can do these moves with a broomstick (I can do these moves with a tiny 1 metre light doubles staff) I also think that doing it with something light will help your technique, however the time spent faffing with it is non proportional to the gains you get, it's also just not as fun
