As someone who is reasonably experienced with this particular skill set, here's some advice 1. so at 1:30 you can see he is holding the stick very tightly but in actuality its better to practice only holding the staff with thumb and forefinger because the goal is to use the staffs momentum to propel, after a while you need almost no strength other than required to hold your hand up 2. always practice slow as hell, as slow as you can stand doing it. This lets you find any points in the skill you are practicing that lead to a dead end then you can find the appropriate alternative. 3. I think of staff skills as kind of a puzzle where you have to work out what the pieces are and how they work together, once you've done this it lets you have fun jamming out to atmospheric music very well. 4. Have fun, every once in a while listen to some music you like and practice your flow, you'll acclimatise to this very quickly and you'll realise why we love it
Im also quite experienced with it because he made me fall in love with the skill. BUT am i the only one that thinks that the last trick he did is wrong? At 3:30 , you can see that his right arm gets it in the back very easily, but with his left arm he gets it out differently, and with unnecessary effort. It took me a while to learn it too, but the way to think about it is that its mirrored. "The way you put it in is the exact opposite of how you get it out". Although i am kind of scared when i get it out, that i might hit my head haha. But oh well. Either way im happy with the video, but it will confuse people that are willing to learn this skill

Hey, Mike! I got new suggestions for new skills You could: Learn how to speed read, learn a new language, play an instrument (if you have one), you could learn how to paint amazingly, and how to get faster in running!
Hey Three quick tips for anyone that wants to learn this at home after seeing: - mark the balance point of your staff with tape (will help with wandering as you spin, as well as really important if you want to take it further) - add a bit of weight to the ends of the staff (this helps you feel where the staff "wants to go" and makes you improve technique faster, you can use bicicle tubing or similar, tutorial ruclips.net/video/lAmPEXL2odI/видео.html) - Mike spins the staff clockwise (from his perspective), leaving the harder figure-8-move (second trick) for his left hand. If you are right handed, learn it the other way around (or learn both with both hands, so you will be able to turn). Also: go out and try it. Spinning things is a great hobby and there is so many resources here on yt Cheers

Pro tip for Bo staff spinning: If you can afford it, just buy a Bo staff. A Bo staff isn't just a dowel of wood or a broom handle, it is tapered towards the ends. You can get a red oak Bo (heavier) or a white oak Bo (lighter) and it is entirely personal preference, but the tapered nature of a Bo as compared to dowel or a broomstick puts more of the mass in the centre. It allows it to spin tighter and turn around your body more easily. I used to spin Bo with a dowel and it always felt unsteady, got an actual Bo staff from a martial arts store and saw an immediate benefit. Everyone's financial state is obviously different but definitely look online or at local martial arts stores and consider actually buying a Bo staff.

I knew how to do this, there's still a lot of more tricks you can do, like backend while spinning it, throw it up the air, then spin it around your leg, or either spinning it while spinning your body, I'm a majorette so it's basically a baton twirling activities, I started when was at the age of 10, so now I don't really worry about the baton hitting me. Try it out again, it's fun!
That's super awesome! As a majorette what is the "baton twirling discipline" you practiced? I've just been basing my staff spinning skills on my channel on martial arts and baton twirling because I didn't know about any more disciplines

You could: Learn how to speed read, learn a new language, play an instrument (if you have one), you could learn how to paint amazingly, and how to get faster in running!
Hey
Three quick tips for anyone that wants to learn this at home after seeing:
- mark the balance point of your staff with tape (will help with wandering as you spin, as well as really important if you want to take it further)
- add a bit of weight to the ends of the staff (this helps you feel where the staff "wants to go" and makes you improve technique faster, you can use bicicle tubing or similar, tutorial ruclips.net/video/lAmPEXL2odI/видео.html)
- Mike spins the staff clockwise (from his perspective), leaving the harder figure-8-move (second trick) for his left hand. If you are right handed, learn it the other way around (or learn both with both hands, so you will be able to turn).
Also: go out and try it. Spinning things is a great hobby and there is so many resources here on yt

Hello there
@@olidzara1140 General Kenobi, you are a bold one
Your videos are so inspiring in a new (skilful) way, keep going mike❤
I can swear that one day, he's gonna conquer the world
Ur ryt sir
For the staff try keeping it closer to your body unless you’re trying to create more power and momentum so you have less space you have to cover :)
Agreed. In my staff spinning video I noticed that staying tight and using your wrist more instead of your arms is key for going even faster 🌎🔥⚡
Idk why I love watching someone else learn something so much but I do
Fun Fact: All men had tied this in there life time
Tr
I haven't tied it
This is called silambam. One of the ancient martial arts.
Week 2 of me begging mike to hold his breath under water for 4 minutes
Look mike boyd he alwready did it
It would be cool
Mike boyd did it last year
Its a great idea brings a lot of views too
It's not that easy, it takes minimum 2 or 3 months
@@Dep7jok3r bruh no

You should try the breakdancing move the flare
it's just called flare
For anyone having trouble with the last trick, it could be you learned the first trick starting with your left hand and are thus rotating the opposite direction. (This seems to be the case with me)
cant wait for the "learn to kill qui gon jinn: 3 easy steps"
Step 1: you need a staff first.
A good length of PVC pipe should do the trick
Indeed
When my actually bo staff broke in half after like 2 years i switched to a pvc pipe and its pretty effective. Even a broom stick will work :D
@@the_chosen_one4145 stick is stick yes?
@@donniexiong6306 very much so
Which was a broom haha or in my case for my video a thick tapered handle for tools lol 🌎🔥⚡
Thanks and fun vid. this will help me with my boredom at home while taking the dogs out for their usual outings.
