Reviewing Albums That Fantano Called "10/10"

- Anthony Fantano has been reviewing music for over 10 years and has only given 7 albums the rating of "10/10". I was curious to see how good these albums really are, and so I gave them a listen and now I'm telling you my thoughts

My beautiful xark twisted xantasy
Everyone knows Sinner get ready should be called Scaring the Bros.
lol
I’m feeling a strong 10 on this comment
This is an amazing comment
More like "Dinner be ready"
calling alright and I weaker tracks on tpab is the hottest take ive heard in a hot minute
a horrible take, those are the best songs arguably
definitely. i is top 3 on the album. alright doesnt really ranked that high in the album for me but weaker track is an insane take
Not a big fan of Alright??? Jail.
I second this
i is also heat, we’re banning bro
Ah yes, my favorite singer, linguini ignota
Sinner get ready is such an incredible album. I listened to it when it first came out but I wasn't that into music back then and didn't really vibe with it. After listening to a bunch of music and coming back to it this year actually I was just in awe. It's an album that I do not see as an album, I see it as an experience.
I was literally thinking about this last night. I feel like this is one of those albums that's sort of like a movie in the same way that I don't watch the same movie every week. I rarely return to movies but despite that, I still respect the artistry when I watch a great movie. Sinner Get Ready is like that. I think it's a fantastic piece of art... I can't really see myself going back to it a whole lot in my life. If that makes sense
Seeing Swans and meeting Michael Gira after the show was a cool moment for me this year. To Be Kind is the only 10/10 I agree with Fantano on.
not thinking at least 3 of fantano's 10s are valid is crazy
@@anotherxd5384it’s all personal opinions but yeah I agree with multiple of his 10’s.
@@anotherxd5384 crazy for someone who doesn't have their own taste. I'm not saying they aren't valid just because I don't agree.
@@jdixon390 as someone who's favourite albums are is this it by the strokes, abbey road by the beatles and the big day by chance the rapper, i have my own taste thank u very much
I mean by this point he publicly called like 30 albums a 10
I’m happy The Turning Wheel is getting more recognition! Honestly my favourite album of all time and it’s crazy more people don’t talk about it!
YESSSS a fellow Turning Wheel enjoyer. That album was my favourite pop album of all time for a while and I still think it’s like top 15 albums ever. It’s so close to my heart it’s SO BEAUTIFUL

sorta boring and mid pick, it's not that good

Great video. Maybe you can go on with this series if you check out fantano's series about albums that are 10's by decade
I was thinking about that too
cmon Man do that
I'd really strongly recommend doing that, for your listening pleasure alone, not to mention our viewing pleasure@@KyleReidMu
@@KyleReidMu I’d be curious to see how you’d rate his 2000s 10s
@@KOOL_AID_KID out of all of his 10s per decade the 2000s are definetely my favorite. The only one that isn't a 10 for me is Discovery and even then it's like a high 9
Sometimes, when I’m watching music RUclipsrs I feel like the energy behind the music goes away. Fantano’s great but sometimes the way he describes music sounds like mathematical equations. You do a really great job at expressing your genuine passion about the music you’re talking about. The sorta improv style you got is super refreshing too. Keep it up!
Thank you dude! I'm glad you enjoy the vibe of the videos :)
Idk, I feel like when he talks about music he loves you can feel it. Anything that is a strong 8 or above, or a 3 or below, I feel like Fantano is good at emoting
Really interesting Video! I think regardless if anyone agrees with Fantano's takes his videos are great for discovering music. I probably would never have listened to artists Lingua Ignota or Spellling if not for his reviews
Now you gotta reviews every album Fantano called a 0/10
Sinner Get Ready by Linguine Ignorance is an amazing album. It's less noisy than her preceding albums. It goes for more of a haunting sound than Caligula, which was more visceral and in your face with the sound. All of Krysten's albums are super dark and upsetting, but Sinner Get Ready has these moments of absolutely gorgeous clarity and radiance to contrast the darkness.
I was raised Catholic and I think she captured some of the cooler aspects of the traditional faith music of the Church. It's extremely impressive how she utilised it for the soundscape of this album.

Hello, I recommend an Argentine album called "bocanada" it's like a... I don't know hahahsdhsh it's just amazing. It's by Gustavo Cerati (Ex-vocalist of "soda stereo", another Argentine band) and I feel that because it is an album from a not so big country, it is criminally underrated. Greetings from Chile. (I used the translator, I don't speak English very well, sorry for the grammatical errors) 🗿

1: the turning wheel
2: the money store
3: to be kind
4; to Pimp a butterfly
5: you won’t get what you want
6: kids see ghosts
7: sinner get ready
The Turning Wheel is honestly in my top 5 favorite albums of all time, and I’m extremely thankful for Fantano for giving it a 10 otherwise I wouldn’t have heard that masterpiece, and I'm also extremely glad that it's your favorite because it's surprisingly divisive for how PERFECT it is.
Sinner Get Ready slander is crazy.
@@dewgongdakota remember it's relative, it's still better than a lot of albums
@@neminem233 Yeah valid, just considering the context of the modern day behind Alexis Marshall and Ye: I find it hard to even want to listen to either one of those projects (or any of their music for that matter). The rest of the list is your opinion (which is based and totally personal to you), but I find it hard to defend KSG or YWGWYW as superior projects since I personally cannot stand by the artists behind the music (outside of Cudi: he's the 🐐)! If you can separate the art: hats off to you 👏
@@dewgongdakotaI've not listened to them in a while the only thing I know for 100% certain is the top 2, I do remember liking Kids See Ghosts a lot and thinking YWGWYW is pretty good.
@@neminem233 Ay, that sentiment is enough to say: you enjoy the music for the music. Respect dog! I honestly wish I could do the same sometimes because I used to love KSG and YWGWYW probably just as much as Sinner Get Ready lmao (definitely not more though personally but we both have different opinions and that's chill).
The big thing with the daughters album is that the album is packed with dark nasty things and it's scary cause u realize a lot of the horrible things are probably things he has done or wants to do. It's just a whole other level of separating artist from art
PRECISELY
That sort of thing is hard enough as it is, but when the artist is literally saying "hey here's some absolutely heinous I've done and some other heinous shit I'd love to do later on" I just cannot for the life of me figure out how it's supposedly possible, even on a hypothetical level, to separate the art from the artist.
Don't hate me for this, when I read the accusations I was depressed for a day, but accusations are accusations. If anything hasn't been proven then we can't call a guy guilty. I'm not extenuating anyone, just this is how it works
well theres no need for seperation imo, the album is fucked up and the artist is fucked up. you wasnt listening to that album thinking how nice of a guy mustve wrote it so now it ruined that narrative. if charles manson wrote it it would be even better cause it would be more immersive, might be a fucked up thing to say but thats what i think. not trying to make him look like any less of a piece of shit
@lippi2171 she didn't open her mouth about it until they started gaining more traction.
I think when it comes to Death Grips (I still have more records to listen to to have a wholistic understanding), I think Exmilitary is really incredible. I def prefer it over Money Store overall.
i feel exmilitary was safer in their experimentation therefore it aged a little better, however the money store changed the game for everyone coming after it, it has more cultural significance in the overall state of industrial and punk rap
Just because I saw your profile pic: Fear of a Blank Planet is one of my favorite records of all time, you're awesome for listening to it ^^
The song with the Charles Mansion quote pretty much got me into them and just harder and heavier musics, I was into pop and buttrock and whatever before then.
I think I enjoy The Money Store more just because I've listened to it more. Ex-Military is a fantastic album though and if it was on Tidal, I'd probably be streaming it all the time
The powers that b
If you were talking about the single version of "i" I would agree, but the album version is amazing.
i think that 30 minute swans track is my most listened song by them, it rules
For me is Oxygen. The Glowing Man will always be my preferred Swans record, but nothing makes me ape out more than Oxygen fr
Surprised he doesn’t like that track though. It’s nowhere near the weakest track on the record.
@@captainstrangiato961 I think he just didn't like Toussaint tbf
aww man Bring The Sun / Toussaint l'overture is like my 2nd favorite song of all time
SUUUUUUUUN, BRING THE SUN!!
It’s got the grandioseness that I can only imagine is similar to the intense noise of thousands chanting to the gods during rituals. Very chilling and piercing song. TOUSSANT LOUVETURE is definitely not as good though unfortunately although I love it’s concept.
Also, don’t you find it to be a sort of end to the concept of the “sun” in swans’ music? I think it is a fitting conclusion to the themes surrounding the sun.
Yeah I was surprised he didn’t like that one bring the sun might be my favorite aot
If you're looking for a more chill Swans masterpiece, I highly recommend The Great Annihilator. It doesn't have the sheer darkness of SFTB, but it is an excellent album nonetheless, and definitely one of their best.
I'm late but that's facts
New Kyle video weehee
i saw the turning wheel on the front page of RYM on the day it was released and it was one of the only albums i gave a 10 on first listen. ive changed my score since then only because ive become a little more selective with my 10s, but my feelings towards it have stayed the same. it's an amazing album and it was really disappointing to see so many of fantano's fans underwhelmed by it.
First, and so glad you did this
Good Video! My rank of Fantano's 10 :
1 - TPAB
2 - The Money Store
3 - To Be Kind
4 - The Turning Wheel
5 - SINNER GET READY
I didnt listen to KSG and didnt put the YWGWYW because of the things that happened. SINNER GET READY scares me
I edited because Im indecisive
Ksg is probably the best one
That's what's unique about Sinner Get Ready. It's one of a kind and was unreal hearing for the first time recently
I know you’re gonna get tons of comments about calling alright one of the weaker songs on TPAB and while I personally disagree with that take, I love how honest your review is. I think anyone who gives you hate for that somehow forgot that how “good” a song is is COMPLETELY subjective. huge respect for just speaking your honest thoughts.
I saw swans in concert and had to leave after 30 minutes because of how loud the noise wall was. I had ringing in my ear the entire following week
i had this idea a long time ago, i never did it out of pure laziness, glad someone else did it and probably way better than i ever could!
Symbolic and Close to the Edge should be next.

@@joaquin5929 Death. Classic prog metal band.
I would love to hear your thoughts on brat now that it’s a 10 from fantano
I think you and Fantano should collab that would be awesome.
I’m seeing Death Gwips this friday
I like most of the albuns fantano gave a 10, but the only one i'd give a 10 myself it's the turning wheel. such a magical album, it makes me want to dance everytime i listen to it! and i often have to put up fluffy dresses just do that very thing and feel the magic flowing through my clothes somehow lol, it's stupid but it's a testment of how much this album infests our mind when we listen to it, in a good way ofc
I’m a bit of a Fantano meatrider but I agree with 4 of these, TMS, TPAB, YWGWYW and The Turning Wheel. TBK and SGR are pretty close too
my ranking would be
1. To Pimp A Butterfly - very popular opinion but I can't deny that this album is legitimately one of the best things I've ever heard one of my few 10s
2. You Won't Get What You Want - Alexis Marshal is a deplorable piece of shit, no denying that. This album is absolutely fantastic though. Bit disturbing considering the context.
3. The Money Store - one of the best sounding albums of the 2010s, innovative and addictive
4. To Be Kind - an experience I won't be forgetting anytime soon.
5. KIDS SEE GHOSTS - just really great Pop Rap, can't really say much more
haven't heard either of the other two but I have been meaning to listen to both of them.
KSG last is insane
Kidd A is the best one
My ranking is:
1. SINNER GET READY
2. To Pimp A Butterfly
3. To Be Kind
4. The Money Store
5. The Turning Wheel (need to relisten)
6. KIDS SEE GHOSTS
7. YWGWYW
Edit: I listened to the other 2 and adjusted my ranking
The money store is going to make you dance frenetically and You won’t get what you want won’t make you sleep at night after listening to it
@@justaguywithhisgrasseson5522 I’ll keep that in mind 😂
Finally, someone respecting Sinner Get Ready (even if I disagree with the Caligula take). Good list 🗣️📢
for me:
to be kind
tpab
money store
sinner get ready
kids see ghosts
ywgwyw
@@justaguywithhisgrasseson5522 I’ve seen footage is actually so dang good. I’m definitely dancing to that. And thankfully I didn’t listen to YWGWYW before I went to sleep 😂
I kinda agree with your take on Bring the Sun/Touissant L'Ouverture, it's kind of two songs that flow into each other and they should even probably been seperated to make both parts flow better and stand alone. On their own, Bring the Sun is an amazing intense build, and Touissant is like a more sadistic version of the second track, very atmospheric with a great climax and vocal performance from Gira, but when they’re combined together it's still great but kind of a slog at times.
Listened to YWGWYW before I knew about what the lead vocalist did and it completely reshaped how I listened to music and was my first 10, but it sucks ppl can’t keep their hands to themselves.
Excluding that, my order would be this:
1. The Turning Wheel
2. TPAB
3. Money Store
4. KSG
5. Sinner Get Ready
6. To Be Kind (I cannot stand this record I have listened to it at least 3 times and can never get into it)
(From a strict music standpoint YWGWYW would be my number one but…)
its okay to have an album like YWGWYW as one (its my 2nd fav) as long as you understand the gravity of his awful actions and don't just sweep it under the rug. YWGWYW is a brilliant album, awful awful person
you dont like alright? damn thats the most streamed song from the album, a bop. and did u listen to the single i? he uploaded the LIVE version of that song on the album for the story telling, the single i is great
i I don’t love, but Alright not being seen as a 10/10 banger I cannot personally understand
It’s weird to hear him say alright is one of his least favorites when Kendrick made it to be the most accessible track on the project and he said his favorite is how much a dollar cost which is one of the more serious songs on the project, even if it wasn’t his favorite I can’t wait to watch his video on the album at large
i'm not a big fan of rap but money store and tpab really hit hard
I love that he gave YWGWYW a ten and then right after, he gives SGR, an album about the lead singer of that album, a ten
no one ever mentions that m gira from swans was accused of SA by an upcoming artist on his label and then downplayed it by saying it was an 'awkward mistake' and a bunch of bullshit about 'wE nEEd tO TeAcH cOnSenT bETteR' but swans fans are experts at coping EDIT bc i didn't know that he dropped her from his label when she confronted him too
YUP, that was the moment I stopped listening to Swans, as much as it crushed me because I loved the music. I half expected him to bring it up after mentioning the 2 other shitty artists on the list. Daughters was a band I was happy to have as a sonic replacement for Swans... until learning the situation with them from THIS VIDEO. jesus fuck. Maybe I need to listen to female artists only from now on
@@SilhouetteLifter same w me and neurosis, now I just listen to faceless techno and Memphis rap 🤷♂️
She was dropped some time before the allegations and she also has a history of fake rape claims.
Gira didn't "downplay it", he told the story of what actually happened, said no actual sex took place but they were close, admitted that they both were too drunk to give consent and that was a major mistake that he owns up to.
Trying to twist this is beyond reprehensible.
cope much damn lol what are u his publicist@@kristoffer3000
My ranking because why the hell not?
7. The turning wheel (4/7): A lot of people in the comments saying this album doesn't get enough recognition, and I'm just here to say that, actually, yes it does, it gets too much recognition. Idk man I just don't feel this one, i got really bored, it's way too slow and it has very little energy. To the point that I enjoy the reimagining of the songs from her newest lp that the ones in here.
6. Kids See Ghost (5/7): It's a fine record by all means, it was actually my introduction to both kanye west and kid cudi. I'd say both artist have better records than this one tho, for starters, this album is too short, to the point that I would rather call it an ep. Also, 2 or 3 songs don't work for me. It is still a good starting point if you want to get into either artist, but not the most essential album in their catalogue.
5. To Be Kind (6/7): This one might be kind of a hot take. If this was only one disc, I would call it a 10/10 album because the first 5 songs are basically perfect. Once I get into the 2nd disc, things start going downhill for me. Don't get me wrong I still the second disc is fantastic, it's just that I don't think the songs from the 2nd disc are as good as the 1st one (except for oxygen, that one carries the whole 2nd disc).
4. The Money Store (6/7): At first I didn't know what to think of this album, but over time I grew to like it more and more. It's a very weird record, but it's the type of weird that I adore. Not much else to say other that it's a great album.
3. You Won't Get What You Want (7/7): Alright, now we're getting into the really good stuff. This album is messed up. In more ways than one. To sum up, this is the type of album that I imagine an abusive boyfriend. It let's us see deep into the psychology of an evil person, I can't help but getting fascinated by that. Even tho I'd be more than happy if this man never made music again, I can easily say this one is his masterpiece.
2. SINNER GET READY (7/7): And as for the other side of the coin when it comes to abusing relationships, tho thankfully it's made by someone I can sympathize more with. This album isn't haunting, unnerving, and best of all, heartbreaking. Lingua's (not linguina my man, Lingua) voice performances fits so well with the themes of this album, as they portray the dispair, anger, fear, depression, and eventually hope that a person in an abusive relationship (both religious and romantic) can experience.
1. To Pimp A Butterfly (7/7): Because what else could it be really. There really not much that I can say that hasn't been said already. Perfect delivery, perfect sampling, great concept, great songwriting. This album is put together like if aims to be a complete experience rather than just music. There's a reason why a lot of music fans consider Kendrick Lamar a music genius, and it is because of this record.
Anddd... that's it, that's my ranking
My exact ranking except I haven’t gotten through the turning wheel yet. But I’ll get to it eventually
I also don't understand how the turning wheel and kids see ghost are 10/10 albums. They're just soild records but nothing otherworldly song to song from beginning to end.
@@--REGULAR--REGULAR I guess that music might be subjective, idk though
Back here after brat by CHARLI XCX got a 10

Could you please review Daltónico by Enjambre??? It has become one of my favourite albums and I would say it is a 10/10.
They merge the garage rock revival with something called boleros and they also add kinda like José José vocals (a famous singer in México and all hispanic countries).

Fantano recently gave more 10/10s to some albums in the 2000s too
I think you mixed “through and through” with “through thick and thin”
I think that's exactly what I did lol

2) The Money Store
3) YWGWYW
4) Sinner Get Ready (Caligula is wayyy better imo)
5) The Turning Wheel
6) To Be Kind (Swans once again also have way better albums)
7) Kids See Ghosts
Think they're all great albums overall though!
Not being a fan of alright and i made me take the rest of what you said less seriously, im sorry. The rest of the video was amazing. But i is sacred
The rest of the video is really good, no hate, but seriously man, i?? I guess i can understand alright being overplayed but. i is literally like my favorite song on the album how could you not love how positive and jammy that song is
Like fuck man go back and listen to it again its such a jam and a perfect like positive end to the album before mortal man fully closes the album out
Thinking about it now I honestly didnt love that song when i first got into the album, idk if i ever hated it, but once it clicked for me, that enhanced the feeling of the full album so much. Especially with the contrast to u, i noticed he uses crazy vocal jumps in both of those songs which is cool. Its just such a banger song, when the dude comes on and hes like “IS THIS MIC ON??? WE BRINGIN UP NOBODY, NOBODY, NOBODY, BUT THE NUMBER ONE RAPPER IN THE WORLD” it gives me chills, one of my favorite album moments on any album honestly
Knowing all that stuff about the Daughters guy makes me feel embarrassed, I said something to her like "your music sounds like it comes from a lot of pain, I hope your music heals you, your fans love you" I really have no idea who she is, now she is playing a preacher character so I typed that on her latest song. It was heartbreaking to listen too. That it came from that experience is really sad and I feel really bad for saying that because I guess it sounds ignorant. I subscribed to you I like your laid back take on things. Just don't get so obsessed with cancel culture is my only critique you don't want to make people get mad BUT its not like these guys didn't deserve it but your opinions like I said are all interesting to listen too thanks!

hi, you missed my first album - peppa pig!
:)
guys i think he doesn’t like the guy who made the daughters record but i’m not too sure. wish he would give more of an indication that he’s not fond of him
This is probably a hot take, but honestly like, it's weird to me when people make super fucked up demented art and then it turns out the people behind it are super fucked up and everyone is like :0000 and like you don't have to like or support that person but for decades art was the place fucked up people go to unleash their fucked up shit so why is anyone surprised
Like did y'all listen to hell songs and really think this is a safe stable trustworthy man
I'm not trying to convince anyone to go easy on the guy but it's just like, if you want to hear music that authentically explores the darkest parts of humanity, you should probably expect that it is coming from a person who has wandered into the darkest parts of humanity, if that's not something you're ready for then maybe listen to something else
Nah. Tons, if not most metal artists are super cool and relaxed people. and messed up people make normal music too (R Kelly). You don't need to be a piece of shit to be experimental and creative.
@@SilhouetteLifter I'm not talking about being experimental and creative, I'm talking about being outdepraved
Like this conversation doesn't include like, Brian Chippendale lmao, I mean art that is transgressive
Go read the lyrics to the last track on Hell Songs, it is literally about rape
Why would anyone be surprised that this guy is fucked
Why is anyone surprised that Michael "The Consumer" Gira sexually assaulted someone
Why is anyone surprised Genesis "COUM Transmissions" P-Orridge was abusive, etc etc etc etc etc
I feel like the appreciation for subversive content by the average music fan often comes from a place that is very naive and voyeuristic, in a way that can often just stoke the flames
Maybe once people grasp that a human being wrote those words and that they would socially crucify anyone who said these things in any other context, they wouldn't be caught with their pants down when the human being is revealed
Now if you wouldn't do that because you have some sort of sympathy/empathy towards the fallibility of the people around you, and are actually interested in engaging with the content itself, then maybe the music is actually made for you
That's all I'm saying, if someone is putting out a very dark, depraved, socially incompatible work, you should be prepared for the possibility that the person behind it is potentially depraved and socially incompatible, and maybe don't engage with the work if that isn't something you can handle
@@SilhouetteLifter also "most metal artists are cool" is such a huge generalization, one that is also false
Metal has infinite sects and infinite rabbit holes to discover different "pieces of shit"
You forgot like 25 other albums
u gotta listen to some kid cudi gang
Hey, just wanna say, while 'allegations' against the daughters vocalist shouldnt be ignored, its important to note that hes not the band, and is actually not the main songwriter, just a vocalist and lyricist, and the band shouldn't but lumped into the controversy
Bring the sun is the best song on the record
I think it's telling that you enjoyed the easiest to listen to album as your favourite from the 10/10 list. Although I don't agree with all of them being 10/10's, I do think they are all very complex albums that take multiple listens combined with an extensive knowledge of each respective genre and music as a whole to truly appreciate why he gave them 10's.
