Amazing how we all associate albums with different places and times depending on when we listened to them. I associate most Death Grips with walking home at night through unplowed snow, blizzards, bitter cold… cuz I listened to DG while walking to/from work during the winter in Michigan, 2015. My nose feels cold just thinking about it!

One of my most prized possessions is my Fantano signed vinyl copy of The Money Store. I sheepishly asked him to sign it when he did a Q&A at my college. He seemed kind of annoyed as he was expecting genuine questions and there was a whole audience haha. I got in DG watching his videos and it was fun to have that kind of interaction with him.

Finding Fantano's channel did lead me to a few musicians though, like Melt Banana, SPELLLING, and Little Simz.

This review brings back a lot of amazing memories. I was a sophomore in high school at the time and had been watching Anthony's videos for over a year. He'd already put me on to some other artists, and I remember being active on music boards and getting really into Death Grips after they dropped Ex Military. I don't know if I've ever been more excited for an album than I was for the Money Store - I bought a vinyl copy when it dropped on Record Store Day, saw the review, and a good friend and I both freaked out that it was the first 10 given. This was the review that made me a subscriber. I first heard of you because of your MDTF. I couldn't believe someone would rate it a 6/10. I watched a few other reviews of albums that I loved which you also rated a 6, and I thought I would check this out to see what kind of music you would rate a 10. You are my go to music source, and I'm happy to be a part of your journey for about 10 years.
This review actually turned me on to Anany Fortuno, not to Death Grips. The video was my first encounter with Fantano, which I initiated by actively searching for Death Grips reviews back then iirc. I merely wanted to find someone who shared my opinion on the album to feed my ego, you know, I didn't really expect to stick around for this long lol. So good job, Anthony
I definitely agree about the record being both heady and aggressive, and how rare that attribute is. I think the only other records off the top of my head that fill those qualities are "Relationship of Command" by 'at the drive-in' and "Symbolic" by Death (although you could argue a few metal or punk records that fill that camp).
This one was pretty important to me. I was like 20 at the time and I saw you gave this a ten saved up my money and bought the cd. It really changed a lot for me personally.
the money store came out during my last year of high school and really altered my musical taste. i knew it was something different when i heard it and this review validated a lot of my own thoughts on the record. i don't know how i got away with playing i've seen footage on the morning announcements
Wow I just turned 12 years old when the album came out. Time sure does fly by. now I’m trapped in Anthony’s basement tied to the radiator. please send help…
I remember that the description of The Fever you gave really got to me when I first watched the review, I thought it was a really clever analogy. Still think about it from time to time after all these years. Legendary review.
Im fine with this album being a 10 but I also think that Death Grips made albums after this that were better and only didn't get a 10 because TMS already did
I find that The Money Store is their catchiest release by far, lots of hooks and beats that people who might not like death grips would enjoy, it's very "poppy" but not in a bad way. No Love Deep Web is my favorite of theirs by far though. That is such a visceral brutal album and Ride must have been in a dark place because he's talking shit throughout that entire record. Niggas on the moon has the best beats/samples they've done too.
your exmilitary review is your most important for me. came up as a recommendation while watching your review of bastard back in the day and man oh man i’m glad. death grips is my fav artist!
Talking about the speed and the spacing of the video is pretty funny, as I just watched Folding Idea's video on vlogs. He made an interesting note about how 10 years ago, a slower pace was the norm, but now, speed and jump cuts are essentially the accepted format and looking retroactively seems so foreign to us. The meta now is rapid-fire.
This is absolutely true: the TMS review showed up in my RUclips feed out of nowhere a couple years ago. It got me curious enough to go find the album and then I lost the first 2 months of the pandemic to Death Grips.
I just finished it today (I listen to it a few times over the course of a few days) and I was honestly surprised by how easy it was to listen to. It isn’t the first abrasive/abstract hip hop album I’ve listened to (At this point I’ve done Madvillainy, Some Rap Songs, and LP!). It was quite enjoyable and catchy (for what lyrics I could actually understand), so thanks for introducing it to me. Hustle Bones is killer. Great album!
I still love this album. When I first watched this review I just skipped to the number and I was impressed. That's why I heard it. Nowdays, I would listen to the whole review and I would agree or disagree with your descriptions and arguments. Still, 10 years later this album is out of my range of descriptions. I consider it as the first album that felt more like a musical experience than a collection of good or great tracks. 10 years later I would say it is a 9/10 for me because I liked The Year Of the Snitch and No Love For The Deep Web more than this, because of the range they show on them and the distorted progression of the songs on them. And I would understand if someone is totally turned off by the sound of it because of the distortion, but still I love this band and they don't have a single album or mixtape that I would say it's inconsistent in quality. And yes, the Needle Drop introduced me to them, thank you guys for that.
It's insane to me that this album is already close to ten years old. I remember this was only a few years after really starting to get into indie music and the only rap I really liked at the time for Odd Future. The first time I heard Death Grips, I didn't know how to feel about them. I didn't really enjoy it, but something about it kept brining me back for more. Quickly I started to love this album more and more and eventually thought it was a msterpiece. One of my all time favourite bands because of this review.
This review got me into Death Grips. Death Grips was the first non metal band I got really into in years, honestly I'll be forever grateful to Melon for that.
The Money Store will forever be one of the best experiences of music in my life. That's why in my eyes it's a 10. I would never have enjoyed half of the music i bump now if not for Death Grips.

I merely wanted to find someone who shared my opinion on the album to feed my ego, you know, I didn't really expect to stick around for this long lol. So good job, Anthony
Just listened to this album yesterday. Very few other records in the past 10 years have stuck with me the way this one has.
Not funny
@@antiphon000 oh the comment was very serious, I think those are good records.
@@aqwthetroop it’s okay guy we’re all wrong sometimes
gud bos
This one was pretty important to me. I was like 20 at the time and I saw you gave this a ten saved up my money and bought the cd. It really changed a lot for me personally.
the money store came out during my last year of high school and really altered my musical taste. i knew it was something different when i heard it and this review validated a lot of my own thoughts on the record. i don't know how i got away with playing i've seen footage on the morning announcements
Wow I just turned 12 years old when the album came out. Time sure does fly by. now I’m trapped in Anthony’s basement tied to the radiator. please send help…
Cant believe it was 10 years ago since Fantano learned to swim.
I remember that the description of The Fever you gave really got to me when I first watched the review, I thought it was a really clever analogy. Still think about it from time to time after all these years. Legendary review.
Now fantano officially becomes a reviews reviewer, absolute innovator
This review definitely turned me on. It also got me into Death Grips. Thanks Tone!
Im fine with this album being a 10 but I also think that Death Grips made albums after this that were better and only didn't get a 10 because TMS already did
yeah i agree
Niggas On The Moon, Bottomless Pit and Exmilitary are top 3 and imo better than TMS
As proven by his Death Grips Tier List, Bottomless Pit and Year of the Snitch are also 10's.
@@StEvEn420BrUlE NOTM fellow appreciator 🙏
The edits were ahead of their time honestly
This review feels so recent it’s like I’m watching a recap from the future. 10 years flew past. TMS is a modern classic.
your exmilitary review is your most important for me. came up as a recommendation while watching your review of bastard back in the day and man oh man i’m glad. death grips is my fav artist!
Love the reacting to old videos things you do on this channel sometimes. Please do more🥺☺️
Nice pfp!
I put this album on every time I'm fighting for my life in the restroom.
Sonic youth tier list!
Can’t wait till Melom reacts to his reaction of his money store review ten years from now
The drop on 'get got' will never ever get old. Revolutionary album,.
I am now turned on
To Death Grips of course
Can't believe since it's been 10 years since music was invented
I'm rock hard right now but, I need to see more of this stuff.
Yes Anthony this album means so much to me, and 4 years later (for me) i thank you for leading me to this remarkable album
Finally, after 10 years I know how to feel about your review of The Money Store. Thank you, melon
This is absolutely true: the TMS review showed up in my RUclips feed out of nowhere a couple years ago. It got me curious enough to go find the album and then I lost the first 2 months of the pandemic to Death Grips.
Oldthony revisiting his old reviews is all we need in this year.
Glad to see my favourite death grips member reacting to fantano.
To be legit, this might be one of the
most recognizable pieces of music journalism ever.
good to see fantano is still a death grips fan girl hopefully they drop a album this year
I still love this album.
Can believe music was created only 10 years ago 🥺😢
Melon wrote the whole script for the Huey Lewis & The News scene in American Psycho.
Amazing to think that music was invented 10 years ago
you actually got me with the ending
Anthony has more hair now than 10 years ago, impressive how slow his hair grows
The Money Store will forever be one of the best experiences of music in my life.
That's why in my eyes it's a 10.
I would never have enjoyed half of the music i bump now if not for Death Grips.
Didnt know you work for the FBI Melon, I was just thinking about how you must be on some elevated plane of existence for giving this album a 10.
14:26 literally every RUclips recommendation I've got in the last month after I finish any video is here... Scary stuff
Death Grips is if Mozart and Beethoven collabed
Please release a review of this review in 10 years
