- I've talked a lot about perfect albums on this channel, but what about almost perfect albums? I asked you guys what are some albums that are almost 10/10 but there's one song that is hold back the experience for you. Here are some of your answers as well as some of my own.

Thank you guys for watching! Let's keep this conversation going, what are some albums you think would be 10/10 if it wasn't for a single song? Also what do you think of the songs discuss in this video??
btw idk if you guys saw my community post or not but I got a new job so video uploads might be slowing down a bit. But of course I'll always be making videos no matter what. Ok thank you bye
Idk if it's bad but Treefingers is always a skip for me tbh.
I really like Awaken,My Love but California just feels off. İnstrumentals are just ok and Gambino' is singing gets worse every listen. Also It feels criminal when they put it right after Redbone.
Janelle Monae's The ArchAndroid is an amazing album (9.5/10 for me), but what keeps it from being one of my all-time favorites is "Make the Bus". It's so random to have an Of Montreal feature in the middle of an afrofuturist concept album.
dr robert on revolver is so apple ad music core if that makes sense
i still call this a 10/10 album anyways, but "F.U.M.L." on ooh rap i ya is really not good
I WON’T tolerate Faust Arp slander. One of the finest songs in In Rainbows
I'm sorry haha
Every song on In Rainbows is one of the finest songs in In Rainbows.
Facts
you should be sorry @@KyleReidMu
He’s got a head full of feathers, which have clearly been melted to butter.
I always liked Faust Arp. It's a cool simple song. Feels like a beautiful bridge between two songs.
I disagree, I don’t think it’s simple at all. I think the arrangement is pretty detailed.
For some reason it's just always thrown me out of the experience of In Rainbows
@@QuandaleDingleBarnacleJonesIII by simple I mean there is not much going on. I don't mean its basic.
@@KyleReidMuthat’s interesting! I think it fits perfectly with the extremely cozy atmosphere of the album. Maybe it’s just me but the album always had this 'spring vibe' to it and Faust Arp kinda feels like an early morning Walk in April.
Faust Arp is great for the pacing of the album - the perfect bridge between All I Need and Reckoner
Those In Rainbows, Exmilitary, and Madvillainy takes are wild. Those albums ARE definitely 10s
Nah Madvillainy is overrated slightly(but not because of the song he said)
And Exmilitary isn't a 10
@@dsw-2898 L they're both flawless. Literally every second is fun
@@SuperSpeedRaven1 Ngl i was highkey disappointed with Madvillainy
Especially since i think MM..Food is a decent 10/10
And would have been a strong 10/10 if they cut out of the TV clips and changed the features on Guinnesses
It's just most songs on Madvillainy sound like interludes to me
And the ones that aren't short are mid
But either way it's a decent 9/10 for me since i still enjoyed lots of it
@@dsw-2898 I don't think being short is an issue. That just means no idea gets stale.
@@SuperSpeedRaven1 I wish they just shortened the tracklist and made the better tracks longer
there literally IS a chorus in Lord of the Game like wtf 💀
Rainbows is one of my favorites off Madvillainy, such a mysterious and comic style song to put on the album that makes it fit so much better.
I misread and thought you were joking that In Rainbows is in Madvillainy.
@@youtubeuserdan4017literally same
faust arp is a track that acts both as a bridge between the two heaviest and densest tracks on the lp and also a small much needed break after All i need. I also like to think of it as a palate cleanser before reckoner. (my personal fav on the lp)
I absolutely agree with this. Very well-worded.
For Fishmans' Long Season I really felt that Long Season didn't live up to the heights of Long Season, especially After Long Season and following Long Season. If it weren't for Long Season, I think that Long Season would've been a 10/10.
Dude actually true
lowkey wish long season was split up cuz each part is so good but i’m not gonna put some 35 minute jawn on the aux
lol@@thebenandcharlieshow6910
The Season was a bit too Long, personally
lord of the game is genuinely one of my favorite DG songs ever. it’s so fun and the feature is amazing
Faust Arp is such a fantastic interlude-esque track. Fits great as a middlepoint of the album and transitions well into Reckoner.
rainbows might be my favorite song on madvillainy, it's so weird and off putting which i feel makes it fit the album even more because the whole album is like a confusing rollercoaster that's also really fun, and rainbows does that type of thing really well for me. it does feel kind of like an interlude tho, despite being one of the longer songs on the album
imo a 10/10 album isn't one that has no bad songs, but instead has the overall positives so vastly outweigh the negatives that the negatives feel insignificant. In my personal opinion, an album like Kid A doesn't have any "bad" songs on it, but at the same time I would probably give that album an 8 or 9 overall because the overall package doesn't reach the incredible highs of some of my favorites (not saying its a bad album, just imo). On the other hand, an album like The Glow pt 2 has a few tracks in the midpoint of the album that are not very engaging at all (like Something 1 & 2), but because the rest of the album is so outstanding it buoys the low points and resonates as a clear 10/10 for me
This is a good way of thinking of it. I like this
What about an album that not only has no bad songs and no negatives? That’s as good as an album can be and therefore a 10/10 right?
@@R-H-B All albums have negatives, even albums where I love all the songs have issues, even if they are minor. An off-putting lyric here or there, a bad transition, a small production oversight, or even an entire song that doesn't quite vibe with you. If there was an album that had no flaws whatsoever then everyone would unanimously love it. Flaws are a part of music, what it comes down to is if you can accept the flaws in comparison to what the album does right. If you have an album that you think does everything 100% perfect, well I guess that's your only 10/10 and nothing else can compete, but like everything I feel like there is a sliding scale to art and I'm willing to call things "perfect" or "10/10" despite it not fitting the literal definition of perfection
i feel the complete opposite about Kid A.. i dont like listening to it`s songs individually as they feel out of place, But when i listen to the whole album on the go it feels like an out of world experience filled with some kind of existential dread
I agree, but if an album has a song that I don't like, even if I'm just neutral to it, the album will not get the perfect 10/10 for me
rainbows 100% fits in to madvillainy, its goofy and fun both lyrically and in the beat but also has seriously great production and interesting lyrics. the entirety of madvillainy fits this description.
Ur pfp brings me joy
Rainbows is like a top 3 song off madvillainy it’s just crazy take to say it’s the worst
You're my comfort RUclipsr bro. I love the consistency and niche video topics, just want to let you know that the content you make is very much appreciated!!!
Thank you so much! I really really appreciate that :)
Everytime someone talks shit about faust arp a part of my soul dies
Same here
Same bro
I bet that the stinker off of Exmilitary is "Blood Creepin". That track just never clicked with me.
Wait, "Lord of the Game"?!
Blood creepin is awesome
LORD OF THE GAME????? LIKE ONE OF THEIR BEST SONGS???? TF???
It's literally my fav from the album like wtf
Faust Arp is not a song that I return to regularly but it works perfectly in the context of the album in my opinion.
Yo Kyle in future vids you should include a picture of the album you’re talking about in the top left/right throughout your explanation - just so it’s clearer which you’re currently discussing
Great vid as always
That's a good idea!
Finding out my brother doesnt like Visiting Friends through your video is blowing my mind rn. Understandable tho, it took me a few listens to really appreciate it
Hahaha no way that was your brother that's crazy
Born Like This by DOOM I feel could qualify, album is so fucking stellar except for the homophobic track Batty Boyz lmao
5:10 never let bro cook ever again
Unforgiving Girl take is honestly right but it also has one of my favorite CSH lyrics on it "this isnt sex, I dont think, its just extreme empathy" and im mad that its not on a better song
For dinner… is David Pajos (guitarist in Slint) favorite song off Spiderland. I think it is so good and weirdly sets up Good Morning Captain. The way the the band moves so synchronized through dynamics is awe-inspiring and honesty really hard to do so consistently. It’s so creepy and methodical. I love it
I once read someone describing this song as an instrumental poem and I thought that was very fitting. First song I listened to off the album
omg im so glad this is a safe space, i made a playlist called In Rainbows (My version) which was just In Rainbows without Faust Arp... had to private it tho because the people weren't happy about it
No, this isnt a safe space. Im gonna hunt you for that opinion, im inside your walls
Faust Arp take was wild. “It kinda just feels like an interlude” IT LITERALLY IS AN INTERLUDE
lord of the game is an amazing song, it’s so fun. Crazy take. Maaaaybe the placement can be changed but it’s a great song
i though he was gonna say something like blood creepin or Thru the walls, but Lord of the game??? that "I am the god of hellfire" sample is fucking mint, it gets me hyped everytime
Thru the walls I can understand but blood creepin can't be a miss because the production on that song is fuckin immaculate. Probably my favorite DG instrumental period.
LORD OF THE GAME IS ONE OF MY FAVS ON EXMILITARY NOOOOO
Ya it's a great song, Jake is crazy
SAD!
I actually listened to Emergency & I because of one of your videos, and it is a banger album. I think “Jitters” is a good song, and the only reason I didn’t give the album a 10 was because of the last track “Back and Forth”. I think that by that point the track just sounded repetitive to me, but I will definitely have to give the album another listen. Keep up the great videos man!
So dope that you checked out E&I because of me, It's a fantastic record! I've always personally enjoyed Back and Forth. Great bass line on that track
Yeah same here, Jitters is great but the one song I dislike on that album is Girl O Clock
For me it’s I Love a Magician. Funny how it’s just one song but a different one for everyone.
"Faust Arp" in my opinion is doing a great job of 'cleaning the air' before reckoner. If you know what i mean by tha. I think "reckoner" wouldn't hit that hard if it was right after "all i need".
Man that exmillitary take almost put me into cardiac arrest
Lord of the Game slaps tho
Ya idk what Jake is talking about
I think Videotape is overrated, especially as a stand alone track. To me, Faust Arp is totally fine and is way more interesting than the former, then again I don’t believe one song can ruin an entire album since I don’t look at music critically.
thank god someone said this. I 100% agree
I'm starting to think people might not like your faust arp take Kyle
Hahaha
Best part of the video is when duck swimming in the back
faust arp is an interlude, that's why it's only 2 minutes lol. it's top 5 on the album for me
Madvillainy is an album that not only shines due to DOOM’s stellar lyricism but Madlib’s creative sampling as well. It embodies the 50/50 collaboration aspect better than most rapper/producer records to me. I think Rainbows is a worthy moment because the sampling is so cool, and DOOMs singing is funny which makes the track a unique and necessary piece of the puzzle. It’s not really trying to be a traditional rapper’s album with straight spitting on every single track, it’s an experience that has equally high moments when it’s just an instrumental, short interlude, non rapping track, etc
For the longest time I thought this about Death Grips’ The Money Store, but honestly I think Fuck That is a fantastic interlude of a song that still has all the really awesome brutality and flows that’s on the rest of the album
somebody’s calling me was the first ever LCD song I heard, and it’s to this day probably my favorite track by them. the detuned guitar matched with the vocals is so great imo. Great vid lol
actually don’t know if it’s a synth or guitar, but that shit bangs either way
faust arp is my favorite radiohead song
Connect the dots is my third fav song on teens of denial, but i get it
"i know there's gonna be good times" is BY FARR the best song on in colour
That is a WILD take
it’s up there tbh
imma have to agree with the glitter freeze one since it sounds like a too enthusiastic visit to the dentist
LMAO
Bro Connect the Dots (The saga of Frank Sinatra) completely ties up the narrative of Teens of Denial, integral song.
1:32 Kyle is me at 1:42
yk you are the best when i stop listening to the new SPELLLING album to watch your video
Faust Arp is important for the transition between All I Need and Reckoner imo. I feel like House Of Cards goes on for a bit too long but I think it will grow on me.
Terrible take on This Is Happening, I love Somebodys calling me, its on tie to being my favorite song with I Can Change.
sung tongs is one of the best albums ive ever heard
except for the last song
that darn song
Nah, Faust Arps has a magnific fingerpicking and a majestic chorus. Is like a love letter to Nick Drake musically, but what keeps me from giving a 10/10 to In Rainbows is: MAN THE GUITAR ON RECKONER IS JUST SO LOW, THAT MELODY IS LIKE CANDY AND IS JUST SO LOW. Idk, it bothers me a lot. Also, OK Computer, take off Electroneering and put Man Of War in the place, then you have a perfect album.
Also, Somebody's Calling me is just such a slow burner, it is just so fucking good and so awesome to listen too.
Woah woah woah, Reckoner is great! Also Electroneering is so freaking underrated haha
@@KyleReidMu Nah, dont get me wrong. I love Reckoner, but man, if they just put that guitar a little louder then I would have 0 complains about the album
If you don’t like I know there’s gonna be good times then you must hate fun
That track is such a vibe, always puts a smile on my face and make me wanna grab a Bevvy in the sunshine
Even though I see it cuz I was also on your side once, For Dinner to me it’s a beautiful moment on Spiderland, specially after Washer, jesus that song is dark. Idk how to say it cuz I suck at explaining BUT For Dinner it’s not a song of relaxation, I see it more as a moment of realization of how numb the “narrator” feels in its head, how depressed and tired of everything he is. It’s gloomy, it’s slow, it fits with the feeling and atmosphere that the whole record has built up to this point, and it’s a great “interlude” to Good Morning, Captain, imo not only the best song of the album but one of the best recordings ever. Idk maybe I just love Spiderland and I need to seek help anyway loved the video okay bye💛
Dude, finally someone agrees with me on faust arp.
Faust Arp, House of cards, and weird fishes are my favorite songs from in rainbows
Ayy glad to see my suggestion here! And great vid! I heavily disagree with the In Rainbows and Exmil takes but I can see the validity of it. At least you didn’t slander House Of Cards like I feel so many do 😆
It’s Dax!
@@iloveanimalcollective it’s me! :3
THANK YOU! faust arp has always felt weak and kinda throwaway by rh standards
Definitely feel this way about Worship You off Vampire Weekend's third album, kind of the album's only flaw
The Chris Rock Skit on the end of Blame Game on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy keeps it from being a ten
dude you are so right about the Jitters. I was literally just thinking about this when I listened to the album last week lmao.
Cross by justice is one of my favourite albums ever (for a little bit it topped the list) but one minute to midnight is such a lame closer, especially coming after stress and waters of nazareth which would've worked perfectly as a penultimate tension builder and a cathartic release respectively. But omtm is such an anticlimactic finale that it just doesn't work for me. I'd probably like it more if it was a bonus track or b-side than as the album closer, its not terrible or anything but it bogs down the album and kinda ruins the finale.
I can name so many 😫 Gustavo Bocanda - Aqui & Ahora, Arca Kick i - Afterwards ft bjork, Lana Del Rey (did you know theres) - Fishtail i hate it when this happens lol
THAT VISITING FRIENDS TAKE IS HORRIBLE OMG.. THAT SONG IS AMAZING
Found your channel recently by your king gizzard video. Will say i like it a fair bit even if i have not listened too a lot of the music you talk about. Just wanted to say i like the videos.
Yeezus and send it up is the first thing that shows up instantly
You're right about Faust Arp being almost like an interlude but I feel like that's the point. It's an essential midpoint and oils the machine that is In Rainbows. Removing it would kind of ruin the flow- All I Need to Reckoner just doesn't work imo.
Surprised no one said Lonerism or did I miss it? The album is perfect and Nothing that has happened so far is a fantastic closer to a great journey of an album. Then the actual closer comes in and makes 0 sense to be on there, ends with an almost 3 minute guitar melody that just kinda fizzles out and ends the album on kind of a nothing note. The piano ballad is fine on its own and could work as a b-side or a bonus track, but its criminal that it was added as the closer.
YES.
yes yes yes... sun's coming up might just might be his worst song
The closer should’ve been Apocalypse Dreams 😭😭😭
I had heard a bit of somebody’s calling me before listening to that album and didn’t like it, when I listened to that album and got to that song I was anticipating nothing hood, but I actually like that song quite a bit. It doesn’t stop that record from being a 10 imo
Discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I've already watched a lot of your vids I really like the topics and style and you're cool (joined your discord also) keep doing great content :)
Thank you!! I'm glad you like the content :)
I heard Jigsaw Falling Into Place in the background for the In Rainbows section, and I prepared for the worst… 💀 Then I heard that it was Faust Arp. Phew (I still like the song though).
Faust arp is one of my favorite songs on In Rainbow’s 😭, I wish it was more fleshed out but I lovvvve the melody, especially the beginning
I thought he was going to say jigsaw ruined his experience I swear I was bout to flip shit
Lmao I hit you with the fake out
daddy's angry connor, daddy's angry
somebody calling me is definitely a grower but it’s amazing once it does
Thanks for featuring my comment (even if you didn't write down my name lol)! I'm glad we're pretty aligned on the whole Rainbows thing on Madvillainy. It REALLY disrupts the vibe of the whole record.
Another hot take on Arcade Fire's Funeral, an album which I think is near perfect, except for Haiti. The vocal mixing is pretty low on that song and it's mind boggling because it sounds fine everywhere else.
Oh, and Faust Arp is not the worst track on in Rainbows. My pick is Reckoner for that. It's just a bit too sparse for me.
I think "Speedway" off of Schlagenheim by black midi is a strange song to be on the album, especially between 953 and Reggee. Its a good song, but it just doesn't flow with the album
teens of denial is an objectively perfect album and your opinion doesn't matter
To be fair, the album is really good. The second half is a little rough though
@@KyleReidMu sometimes 9/10 albums are better than 10/10 albums and this is one of those times, idk how to explain it but yeah it's a fact
@@KyleReidMu also the outro of frank Sinatra is one of the most memorsble moments from the album
And the last song is literally 1 minutes long, just let our boy have a moment where he's not having a panic attack
im back cause i never thought about it until after your video but In/Casino/Out by At the Drive-In without "For now..We Toast" would be a 10/10 in my book. i dunno if thats too deep cut tho
In a friendly discussion way, I feel like that comment about Videotape ruining In Rainbows is just a weird take to me. This album that gives of the sonic vibe of transcending life itself, to end in a slowly paced song about someone who is near moments away from death is the absolute perfect way to end the album. The point about it not following the climax of Jigsaw Falling Into Place is also why I believe Videotape works as such a good closer to. Think about a movie for example. It doesn't end with a climax, after the climax of the movie there's still story beats that will end the movie, and on In Rainbows I feel it follows that same idea, and it works so well. Albums end with piano ballads all the time too, so it's never been too much of an issue for me either.
Love's Forever Changes would be perfect without bummer in the summer
the main problem for me with connect the dots on teens of denial is the placement. put it before the perfection that is cosmic hero/costa concordia and i think it would be liked a lot more. i feel like joe goes to school is a beautiful short closer, its chilling and youre a csh fan so you know about how it alludes to the ghost of bob saget.
so my solution to the second half of teens of denial is 1937 state park -> unforgiving girl -> connect the dots -> cosmic hero -> the ballad of the costa concordia -> joe goes to school
part of me wants to remove unforgiving girl bc i agree its not great but idk i wont
I actually agree with that commenter about Rainbows from Madvillany
I’ve always absolutely adored ‘Cherry Bomb’ by Tyler but "THE BROWN STAINS OF DARKEESE LATIFAH PART 6-12 (Remix)" always put a damper on that album for me,
I don’t even mind the song by itself but it really breaks up the pace of the album for me and always sounded so isolated from the rest of the project. Almost feels like it was a song they would’ve made during the studio sessions of Cherry Bomb that would have ended out as a bonus track on the CD, if I’m honest the bonus track "yellow" would’ve make so much more sense in its place and would’ve been a great way to transition into "FUCKING YOUNG/PERFECT" both musically and thematically.
"Faust Arp" might be my favorite track on the album... 😬🤷♂
i have never been this angry in my life
I swear faust arp reminds me of early floyd like obscured by the clouds. Literally would be top 3 if it was longer.
I said it once in a video but Goon Gumpas off of RDJ Album might be the most misplaced song ever made and could make the cut for the worst Aphex Twin song to grace the face of the planet. I hate that song.
Lmao ya definitely not the best song on that album
For me it would be the song "Hell" from Mura Masa's debut album Soundtrack to a Death, the album is fantastic, one of my favorite debuts of all time, and does a great job at showcasing his unique production style, but that song just gets on my nerves, its so unnecessarily loud and completely breaks the flow of the album.
But then again, given the name of the track maybe it was put there on purpose, I guess we'll never know...
This dude literally defended the vibe of Visiting Friends but For Dinner has the same purpose and is less longer
I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS THE OTHER DAY
Sometimes a 10/10 album needs that one bad song, the best example for me is This is Happening because yeah Somebody's Calling Me is shit but I think it's necessary to have this weird drunk stumbling song on the album for it to feel more perfect, if that makes any sense.
i’ve always been debating on whether kid a or in rainbows was better, and my take is in rainbows has overall a better tracklist, with only one or 2 songs (faust arp and house of cards imo) that hold it back whereas kid a has a slightly weaker tracklist overall but has no skips - it’s more consistent than IR, but IR has the better highlights
I used to think Faust Arp was an interlude, too, until I saw the Scotch Mist version ;)
I think that In Rainbows is track for track the best Radiohead album, the only thing that really brings it down is that it feels like there’s supposed to be a narrative or concept running through the album that just isnt there, can't explain it much better than that. Same problem i have with Porter Robinson's Worlds.
that ToD take is absolutely absurd when not what i needed is on the album lol
not what i needed is a great song, i guess the outro is a bit long but i think it sounds good
Nahh that's my favourite track
@@newhillroad it's way too generic for an album like teens of denial that had highs such as cosmic hero and costa concordia, it just feels out of place and more like a filler track than anything. unforgiving girl has a solid place in the album, and although it's repetitive, will used repetition as a device to carry a narrative a lot, and i personally think that the people complaining about it have no idea as to the track's meaning beyond the surface
Visiting Friends is perfect
finally someone that agrees with that faust arp makes no sense in the album.
You are banned from Kylecord for slandering Connect The Dots!! I mean come on... "I know that it's a lot to remember says faaaather" FIRE.
I mean like I said, not a bad song. Just placed weirdly on the album
in defense of unforgiving girl, compared to the other songs on tod it definitely doesn't hold up as well, but what it does I think it does well, the buildup at the end with the screaming is powerful, it has a solid chorus and personally the repetitiveness isn't a problem for me. Sure it feels like a song that the record label wanted to be on the album but that's fiiiiiine
Agree w unforgiving girl, the snare sounds so ass too especially once it gets to 1:15 but amazing album
But connect the dots is one of the best tracks
For plastic beach I would agree that it is near perfect if not for one track, however the song that I don’t particularly like on it is sweepstakes, not glitter freeze
