10k miles oil change is not too bad. 3k miles oil change is excessive. 5-6k is good too. I change my oil every 7.5k miles on my BMW 335i.
From what I have seen and read from different sources , youtube and other online info . Ideas have ranged from 5000-7500 miles until an oil change . I had been changing my oil and filter on my 2011 Toyota Camry for YEARS at 7500 miles . Always using an engine flush such as Amsoil / Liqui-moly . Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20 oil and Amsoil filter . Bought the car in 2013 with 20000 ? miles . Got totaled in an accident at 155000 miles . Had no mechanical issues at all , no burning oil , etc. Oil level always stayed at full between changes .
MY service manager says it's the oil filter that goes bad after 6000 miles, not the oil (if using synthetic). So BMW still having customer's do 10K miles between oil changes, he's says that BMW (and other German auto makers), "Have you on a car replacement plan, not a car maintenance plan!!" Change your oil (and filter) every 6K miles. The filter will bypass (stop filtering) after 6500-7000 miles!
I actually had my filter go bad early because it was a faulty filter. It ended up leaking a bunch of oil from the housing and making a giant mess in the engine bay of the 335i. I'm not gonna do the 10k oil changes
Valeo filter here is about 3 eur for e39, I just change it in middle of my 10000km interval… My car has 400.000km, in past I had 15000-18000km interval change. 530d 2002
Nice tip about the oil temperature... I’ve never heard that before and have only been focused on allowing a minute or so to allow oil to fully circulate after a cold start.
Yeah the oil needs to be at the correct temp to do its job properly. Driving aggressively right after a cold start can do some damage to the rod bearings.
@@NWAuto I read in my owners manual on my F30 328i to just start driving immediately as it helps get oil up to temp quicker, no hard driving though
@@lowk3ychris484 Yeah driving immediately after starting the car is fine.
Waited 10k miles and got sludge in the last 2qts
Great advice....
Corolla Hybrid SE AWD
4 month intervals / Calgary, AB Mobil 1 OW-16 + Toyota Filter
January, February, March, April
May, June, July, August
Sept, Oct, November, December
5,000 kilometers = 3,125 miles ✅
6,000 kilometers = 3,750 miles ✅
7,000 kilometers = 4,375 miles ✅
8,000 kilometers = 5,000 miles ✅
Because today's EGR-Diesel engines soot heavily, I change the oil & filter every 10,000 km, despite BMW saying that 30,000 km or 24 months. It may also explain that the timing chain hasn't started rattling yet despite the N47 having traveled more than 220,000km so far. This is just a guess
If you’re considering high mileage intervals then you should use LL-12 or LL14FE+ or LL17FE+. (Make sure it’s listed on your manual before buying the oil).
I used to go by dipstick in the past when my Toyota was a taxi. Considering that car would be on pretty much all the time, I could go 10k, although I only went max 8k. I would look at the oil, smell it, feel it. Now that I have a Bimmer, can't do that anymore, just plan 5-6k.
I got in the habit of just doing every 5-6k. I drive a 12 year old Civic now and I still do the 5-6k interval on it
I do every 6-7 k miles with royal purple
Given how little engine oil costs, it doesn't make sense for a BMW owner to let old oil remain to ruin the engine.
Yeah especially knowing BMWs history of bad rod bearings
3.000 when hard use, normal 5.000 every 12 nonths
On my own experience doing a 10k or 15k oil change is a bad idea I have a X3 with a N52B30 engine and believe me you could kill your vanos solenoids or timing chain or worst with a long period oil changes and it's not cheap to fix the consequences
Joke at the end. I have never run out of Blinker Fluid.🤣😂
Simple answer: use HOURS ON ENGINE OIL AND FILTER as the metric NOT miles/km.....
I have a 2015 335i and I do 7500 miles using a good Liquid Molly synthetic. About 1 oil change every year. Unless going on a trip I'll do it before and after. Oil is still looking good at 7500, Have you ever used red line or Royal purple are only liquid Molly
I only used Liquimoly and OEM BMW oil. But 7500 miles sounds fine.
Since the filter is so easy to access what about a new filter at 5k? Also heard someone smarter than I, says to use frequent fuel additive on these turbo engines to extend oil life.
FWIW changed my 5.3L GM engine oil at 10k for about 150k mi. Never burned oil, kept mileage, still runs good @ 185kmi. But then again, was only hard on it when passing and rarely took joyrides. IMO if you're a reasonable owner doing mostly daily, see no reason for 5k oil changes.
Of course that's assuming gas quality is decent in your area.
Some places it is not so more frequent changes is required.
Iam confused, iam from Germany and the normal intervall at nearly all cars is round about 15.000 km / 9.300 miles.
Since a few years all modern cars have an adjustable lomglife intervall till 30.000 km / 18.600 miles.
In my family all cars gets new oil every 15.000 km: BMW X330d, BMW E61 525d, Subaru Forester 2.0, Ford Fiesta 1,3
Every 30.000 km: Hyundai i30N
Every 10.000 km: Corvette C6
I have a 2018 330ix and about to hit 30k miles and I change the oil with Liquid Molly 0w-20 every 4500/5k max.. someone told me that's just a wast of money and to early but I disagree, I think that's perfect timing especially for a daily driver.. What do you guys think you think that's a little too early..?
5k should be fine. I don't think less than 5k is necessary with good oil unless you barley drive and a year goes by without an oil change
Yeah it’s pretty dark at 5k. Clean oil puts my mind at ease
BMW’s run extremely hot and cook the oil. No way I’d go past 5k on BMW oil unless I wasn’t keeping the car for long.
People spend 60 thousand dollars on a nice car, than want to stretch the oil change to the max. Change it early and protect your investment. In the long run your the one saving money in repairs and headaches!
Definitely stick with every 5-6k miles no matter what BMW says.
every 5-6k miles to get rip off on dealer ship service?
@@contentmaker7777 no you can do it yourself for free, if you take their advice of 10-15k mile oil changes they’ll be selling you a new car soon😢
@@CorbinWilliams nah i think in america is different, IN europe they all suggest for bimmer to change 15-18k miles = 25.000/ 30.000km, you are crazy if you change here at 7k miles
@@CorbinWilliams and you can do it but in dashboard in Menu you will get no service book writen down so i guess you cant write yourself that one, what u changed and on what datum u change
@@contentmaker7777 definitely agree, but I do like the fact when the service dept does it, it appears in the carafe and looks super legit for a little better resale value.
15k miles interval is a gimmick selling points for most BMW because BMW wants us to dump it every 4 years/60k miles. If we travel 100 miles every day and mostly driven in highway, it is perfectly fine for 20k miles.
Yeah the type of driving you do really matters. I do a lot of city, so I'm definitely not waiting 20k
@@NWAuto It sells well in Europe specifically Germany where the cheapest oil change is €100 from 3rd party and is way more expensive in the dealership. For instance, It cost €200-340 for Corolla in a Toyota dealership meanwhile for the same exact Toyota genuine 0W-20 oil in the USA, it only cost €50-100.
Hello I am worried about Azerbaijan, I have F10 528i steam year (2014), how many thousand versions do I have since I changed the oil? I want to set an interval,by the way, I use the oil of the BM XYZ oil group. Thank you very much Greetings from Baku City
It really depends on the oil itself, not just "synthetic" but rather the TBN of the oil, the exact oil type, brand and viscosity, the oil capacity of the vehicle, whether turbocharged or not, how it is driven, etc. Some 10k oil changes come out looking perfect. Would I run 10k on a normally aspirated inline 6 BMW that had 10 quarts of ACEA B3/B4 0w40 oil? absolutely. Would I run 10k on a 4 cylinder turbo that had 5 quarts of oil with 0w20? No way in hell.
I use Liqui Moly Special Tech LL-01 and a Mann filter for every oil change at 8,000KM (5,000 miles) on my 2005 E46 ZHP and I have over 270,000KMs (around 168,000 miles) on my Odometer. Greetings from Switzerland :)
Does it fo any tick at the motor head.
dude here in switzerland after i took car to bmw dealersjip so they change me oil and filter so nownis set to 30.000 km untillchange oil and filter, and ur saying 8km? lol
@@tomasnokechtesledger1786 No, if people use the proper oil and change the oil and filter at 5,000 miles then all is good.
@@VanquishMediaDE 5k trip miles Baden, Zurich, Interlaken and back, very often, maybe is too soon to change that LM.
@@tomasnokechtesledger1786 Highway driving (at highway speed), long distances of un-interrupted travel has significantly less wear and tear compared to city drive. If you do mostly highway driving changing oil and filter at 5,000 miles is appropriate.
If one lives in big city and did mostly city driving, one should be changing the oil and filter every 4,800KM.
i almost forgot bout my blinker fluid!!!
I change my M2 comp oil every 3-4k miles. I change my own and let BMW do it around 8-10k so ill do my own in between. Its modified so im not risking it
Even 10k miles it's to much BMW in Germany recommends 10,000 km that's+/-6000miles in mixed city/highway and your first oil change after 2000km
Every 3k liqui moly
If you are paying this amount of money for a BMW why not change the oil every 5000, that is not unreasonable.
Unless you are leasing it then don't change it at all.
I changed my oil at 6000 km, one year, can't drive much due to constant border closures and lockdowns in Australia. Still I can look at the car in the garage.
6000km is a good interval
6000km is 3700 miles. That's too soon in my opinion. I'd go to 10,000km. Or even 12000km(7400 miles). I do 10000km on my 435i
@@dedan2 wdym i just got done service at dealer ship BMW and they set it another change at 30k
I NEVER change the oil. BAD for the environment. I just drive them until they shut-off then just get a new one. Repeat the process.
Mercedes AMG says every 10k miles but I would do 5k
Why risk it at 10K? Oil is cheap, engines aren't. I change mine in my Jetta every 3 to 5K. You'll sleep better at night knowing you've done the best possible maintenance you can & don't forget your changing the Filter as well as the oil. I'm a firm believer in the idea that if you care of your things they will last a lot longer & take care of you. I also use oil treatment on every oil change. Also something to keep in mind is you should never need an oil flush if your changing the oil before any can break down.
Yeah I agree. The sad part is people will get too lazy and just sell the car when they think it might have problems
Thank you for posting this helpful video.
Glad it helped
Oil is cheap so change it often, change it every 3000 miles. Even at 3000 miles the oil looks dirty.
Sounds excellent bro!👌 What is your exhaust system? I have a 21.M240i xdrive, and I'm looking for a proper set up!
VRSF catted downpipe, AWE touring non resonated midpipe and muffler
NO I’ll tell you the oil will not become corrosive but it will still have contaminants in it so just change it !
I drive a V8 bmw and Mercedes I change every 2500 to 3000 but my cars see high engine speed every single time they’re driven. And they’re warmed up every single time they’re driven. Never had a single issue out of either one. If you live in the high rpm range change it every 3000 or less. Modern oil is not full synthetic it is refined crude, there’s only a few true synthetic oils on the market.
What is your exhaust setup!? It sounds fantastic!!
AWE catback exhaust with VRSF high flow downpipe and Bootmod3 stage 2 tune. Does sound super nice. I have exhaust videos you can check out
The way you drive I would definitely do 5000 Mille oil changes.
I'm changing my oil Every once a year. (f80 m3) About 5000-6000. Now I'm only putting 2000 a year. The mechanic told me i don't need to change Every 12month. Maybe 18 month. I'm so confused.
I think your interval is fine
18000 in Uk.
2:38 rev your car like that often? If so, forget about 15K oil change interval.
I warm it up properly first, but yeah I didn't buy the car to drive only at low RPM.
Mine sees redline several times a day for the last 8 years... never a problem @ 15K with good oil.
Bmws were made to be driven hard. Nothing is wrong with high revs and 15,000 miles
BMW is full of shit. Don’t let your BMW go past 5k on oil. I was told this directly by a BMW mechanic at BMW, but already knew it from being a BMW owner for over a decade.
I do every 5 on my N55
I'd rather be safe than sorry. Oil is cheap compared to engines.
2005 e90 330i here. I change the oil every 8k-9k miles (15,000km). I thought that it was considerably good interval. Do you think I should shorten the interval?
I am not an expert on the subject. If you have a gasoline engine with reasonable power like your BMW has
( 77hp/L ) and you use a GOOD oil quality, for example "Mobil1 0w40 or Castrol EDGE 0W-40 and not too much city driving/cold driving, 15000km works with good margin
Synthetic my ass all scams they are 25% Synthetic the rest is regular conventional and automakers they're only worry about going through warranty after that you are your own if you drive in city most stop and go traffic heat summer, they don't last more that 3k miles, automakers now give long intervals just to sound low cost maintenance that's the catch good luck
Should I only use bmw oil?
I've heard brands like liqui moly are also good. If you're still under warranty then you might wanna use the BMW oil so they don't see that you put something else in.
I have a 2012 BMW Gran Truismo 500 8cyl. Has 25k miles. I’m 3’rd owner after 2 disabled owners who only drive sparingly. Garage life 10 years. Looks like it drove off factory line. My question. Oil change due 9-2021 or 27.320 miles. I’m barely at 25K miles. Last oil change was at BMW used Dealership. Clean car fax. I’m a driver driver with a perfect driving record. 42 years driving something. 😊. This is my retirement car. Long drives with my service dog & camping 🏕 is in my mind.
Oil change? After 1,200 miles?
I bought f32 2015 190hp diesel , how to improve sound of car ..i know it's diesel but ..?
I don't know too much about diesels. But my friend did EGR delete and did an exhaust on his 335d and that improved it.
Rule is 10-15k km or 1 year.
10000 mile oil changes and you will run into engine damage issues…just give it a couple of years…
Or better yet…get rid of your car completely and go live in a jungle so that you don’t make the eco gods angry.
10k , LMAO
LOL
Poor video. It would be more valid if you have uoa at 5k and uoa at 10k to see support your premises
Unless you do a butt ton of highway miles in a short time, no.
Exactly
