I agree. As a former Marine and retired from the D.O.D... I was part of the American military industrial complex. I was overseas in various countries for 90% of my career including hot spots. One particular hotspot in which you and I both share... Traveling and living around the world on Uncle Sam's dime opened my eyes to a lot of the propaganda and hypocrisy of the American government... I have been living in Vladivostok Russia for 3 years now. I love the Russian people, culture, traditions and family values.. Like you, I am on a 3 year visa. I have not been to Russia.. I have watched a lot of channels non political about life in Russia. It seems a beautiful very under populated country.
A wonderful civilians life can be had I would believe if you go there with money and valuable skills.
However the government does not treat all member states of the Federation equally and the state some people are left living in in falling down villages and towns, so many towns without even half decent maintained streets.
It seems to me that only a small % of the population benefit from the wealth..
When there are so many areas and people needing better care and facilities itsy obscene to be spending billions on genocide in a neighbouring country for no reason other than that the President is on control of everything that happens and for his lifetime by sham elections.
I doubt that any foreigner could live well there unless they ignore the brutality of the governing regime or if they tried to object to anything the government does.

I'm going to be traveling to Russia in the coming month as well and I am in contact with Joseph and I am hoping that I will have the opportunity to meet him during my stay in Moscow at the end of Sep. My wife and I are planning another trip next year starting somewhere in the east and as we make our way west I am hoping to meet up with you at some point as we travel the trans Siberian express and as we go around lake Baikal we get to see you as well. Again thanks and have a great day.

An excellent interview, I periodically watch both channels, an interesting look from the outside at my favorite country! About Baikal and its size - one interesting fact, about 336 rivers flow into the lake, and only one Angara River flows out. So, if you block all the rivers flowing into Lake Baikal, then the water from the lake will flow through the Angara River ... 400 years, the lake is so huge! And I also want to say - Dan, you have a very open look and a kind sincere face, this is something that we Russians really appreciate! Sincerity is always appreciated and respected in Russia. And, by the way, the plans that you announced also pleased me - you are a nice couple with Ksenia and I want you to be able to build your happiness here in Russia, in any case, I wish you that! Good luck with everything here!) God bless you!)

I don't live in California anymore, I moved to Charlotte North Carolina in 2005. I have been searching for a place to live for about 3 years now. I have narrowed it down to Italy or Russia. I have been using the internet and a lot of RUclips videos. Your video just popped up one day when I was searching for Russian videos. Everything that I have heard from people who moved to Russia from the U.S. love it. Italy is kind of an outlaw of the EU. There is murmurings of Hungary, Italy, and other countries will leave the EU. In 2024 something big is going to happen, something awful is going to happen to the West. I don't want to be here when that happens.

Hi, Daniel, great interview ☺️ I wish you guys all the best with your future family with Ksenia, I hope you will soon find your dream house and have many happy years together in Siberia.
I watched both videos and you know, when you were talking about in other channel at 16:20 how people ask you about Russian spirit, you are right about many things already after just year living here, it's in many ways about building your character and spirit with going through some hardships together, and about many other things, about the way we treat friendship that you also talked about, and how Russia is in all peoples hearts that all share this Russian mentality while loving and preserving their own national cultures and languages within it along with that, that you mention at 6:20 in that other video. And having close like almost spiritual connection to the land and our nature, our birch trees. It's so heartwarming to see how your eyes light up when you talk about your pride and love for Baikal in this video 🤗 And many other things that you'll discover in your Russian journey in future. And people just ask you that question in hopes to see that part of all that also started growing and taking a place in your heart too and to bond with you on that level with sharing that

@@Wild-Siberia hehe yeah, I think you were supposed to have this path too.
And just like you described those people that have different nationalities here and have their own rich culture, but all have Russia in their heart - you are becoming like that too, so people are curious to hear about that experience of that happening in your life when they ask you about that Russian spirit :)
I think Latin American people are actually very very close to us in mentality and it's much easier for us to develope close bonds with each other than with US people (while I think they still more like us than Europeans). Your peoples are much more open to outsiders than us and we are weary of strangers as you noticed as historically that's what we had to be with all people coming to attack from all around (which still keep happening it looks). But when you get past that, inside we are very very similar I think. With big family bonds, that we usually keep living with long after we just become 18 and that we keep close all our lives, with strong women, with big hospitality and calm good natured spirit and also knowing how to have good time and have a nice celebration

The Professor in New York worked out a good deal for her. She arrived in New York yesterday, starting classes soon to obtain her Masters degree. She's a lovely, bubbly Russian woman.
Dan, I've 'seen' Moscow a lot via RUclips. I think your'e living the 'American dream' - in Russia. It's absolutely wonderful where you are. If it was possible, I'd visit you! My town have borders to two other provinces (you call it States in America.) To reach the other provinces you have to go through mountain passes. Scenery is beautiful. But nowhere near your scenery. Our winters are too short and our summers too hot.

Russians have сменка when needed. Shoes for indoors that you change to from street shoes. That's what kids do at schools. And in some workplaces. Or in hospitals and some other places you wear бахилы over your shoes. Which is like foot size sort of plastic bags, I don't know how you call them in English. And at home slippers.
And it's not just about shoes. We also have clear division between street clothes and home clothes and change to home clothes right away when we come home. Because you sat in that everywhere too just like you walked in all those places in your shoes. And to us our home is like our temple, we keep it clean

100% agree with @expatamerican3234 - SPB & Moscow are some of the safest places I've been to and lived. I went on a vacation to California last year - LA & SFO - and was horrified. "What a weird, strange, and dangerous country, this California is, I thought to myself (cities, at least)." How relieved I was to get back to the safety of Russia. Like he said, I'm sure there's crime here. And I see posts of local idiots on Telegram channels, but compared to the violence back home in the US - things here seem like chump change.

I am happy both of you found love and are happy living in Russia. Not for me however. I travelled as a tourist on the transmongolian railway. Like everywhere I met some good people and some not so good people. Had a few times where I felt people gave me a hard time probably expecting a bribe. I was told it was a corrupt society and I found to often people did not go out of their way to help a stranger.
Lake Baikal is a natural wonder, don't think I would want to live there in winter with -30C weather. Most people appear to survive on a subsistence living with many going to Moscow or St Petersburg to find decent work. Life expectancy is low for men, alcoholism appears to be a serious problem as is domestic violence (so much for family values). I would never be willing to give up the freedom to speak out and criticize your government without the fear of being put in prison or poisoned.
