While the world is watching the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war unfold, many countries condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. But what about China, which is supposed to be one of Russia’s biggest allies? We hit the streets of Shanghai to get Chinese citizen’s reaction to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and to hear what they think about Russia and Putin in general.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Chinese population.

Really disappointed with the quality of the translation. It's not just very loosely translated. Some sentences are barely related to the original or even mean the opposite. Here's a few examples of what the correct translation should be. Please judge for yourselves.
1:06 Personally, I think it might be too harsh to describe it as an "invasion".
    4:08 dispatched their armed forces
4:23 They aimed their guns and missiles at Russia's door
4:53 (second sentence) if we can sign a treaty then we'll try not to resort to violence.
5:06-5:20 We shouldn't step in because Ukraine provoked the situation in the first place. Russia has been provoked, but it has not been invaded.
5:53 but we can urge them to stop or share our views.
6:15 We won't send weapons to the battlefield (meaning they won't contribute to the war)
    8:19 blatantly (not blindly)
    9:02 to tackle intense situations
12:20 I hope that the US can stop meddling in issues like this in the future so that there can be world peace.
15:18 The US benefits from our conflict. (Literally: The US is watching the tigers fight(观虎). The Chinese saying 坐山观虎斗 "sit on the mountain and watch the tigers fight" means to watch in safety whilst others fight then reap the rewards when both sides are exhausted)
16:45 no family can bear the pain of losing a loved one.

Why do European and Western media dare not prove that they report China? That's because China is more fair and free of speech than them. I love how Chinese view America as the ones provoking the situation.
Countries like Ukraine, Kosovo, and Georgie have been begging Europe to join the EU and Nato.
Its hilarious seeing the authoriatarian bootlickers try to blame other countries for fuckups.
America is retarded, but at the very least had a coherent justification behind its invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. China seemed to want to invade Tibet, because apparently to free tibetan slaves, "Glorious mao zedong must arise from the heaven" and become the new tibetan slave masters.
I used to be partial towards these types of politics, but after Ukraine, im in genuine disbeleif, over how China, a nation I thought atleast had good leaders now, would even support Russia after what they did. America may be incompetent, but atleast the Americans arent bootlickers. Jesus christ.

Good interview and it does represent the general sentiment in China. A few interesting observation to share:
    1) Chinese can generally relate to Putin's decision for war and still generally support russia, but they are also symphathetic to Ukrainian citizen (notice none have said much about Ukrainian gov) and is against war. Some Chinese (the minority) stand on the side of Ukraine more than russia.
    2) They think that China should not intervene.
    3) Most of them blames NATO and US more.
    4) The girl refers to Xi as winnie the pooh and gets away with it. This debunks the idea that winnie the pooh is a forbidden subject in China. No secret police is going to go after you if you say Xi is like winnie the pooh.
    5) One guy wish that China will have leader like putin and says it will be interesting. He is not alone and many people in China feels that Chinese gov is too soft on some issues. If China is a liberal "democracy", then there will be war already in Taiwan and South China Sea.

If that's what you're trying to say, I have to disagree. Within Russia, the people supporting the war are one's who rely on the state media. Even in this case, it's divided along generational lines as younger people are more likely to rely on media from the internet rather than the state.
It's the same thing outside of Russia and the west. People who rely on media outside of the confines of the state, will always have a broader view. And it's obviously younger people who are more likely to do this. It has less to do with how much politics you pay attention to and more about what types of media you are consuming.

I hope so much this video is authentic and not a staged theater. Nowadays i really dont know so well what i can belive or not.
All the people who have spoken have a diferent opinion and in my opinion all of them are right in some way.
Me personally i wish for peace for all humanity. additionaly without any superpowers that are acting like some sort of police. Of course this is a very naive thought. i can see that there are so many different needs and perspectives. it is not possible for all the wishes to come true.
I hope so much for a fair play in a very childish naive way. Also i hope that many more people grow mentahlly and spiritually so that we can see each other as brothers and sistern of different mothers. This way we do not need any boarders any more.
Here where i live, in this video you call it the west, i see and hear many people who have the exact same feelinge, fears, hopes and wishes as the people in your video. Of course this is just an example of the many different points of view that exist on our planet. Our home. our only home in the Galaxy.
I dream about and wish for enought strength of the humans of this planet to hold togeather as one big family. and that the strong people hold and suport the not so ready ones. to take them with us on this journey that we call life with the goal of becoming truly concious and aware about ourselves as human beings.
Many bad things have been done by humans to other humans. the truly strong human is forgiving. And i hope and i dream that there will be no beeings that interfear in a negative way to stop this process of growing togeather.
Of course it is ALL so extremly complicated.
I know for sure we have the power to overcome the childhood and the adolescence of humanity and can become grownup humans in a concious way of existence, without further hurting each other.
Time will heal all wounds and love will protect us and nurish this process.
Thank you so much for your work. I hope to see many more other people from all over this planet and be able to listen to theire thoughts. It is like a symphony. We will overcome the complications. the complications will not dissapeat but we will find a way to deal with them in peace and harmony.
peace out, your Brother from annother mother
you give me more hope with your work, thank you

The word invasion, in our dictionary, mostly mean the occupation of land. Since Putin said that he will not occupy Ukraine, but only wanted to maintain peace and target the Ukrainian government, we don't completely agree that this is an invasion. Because in the end, his soldiers must fulfill his promise and return to his country.
However, due to the resistance of the Ukrainian President, some of us believe that Putin will not retreat after the victory, because the cost of this battle is too huge, and it is not cost-effective for Russia to retreat with nothing.

I see a great deal more reflection here of inaccurate information being fed to the Chinese people, following the ruzzian nonsense about how they were somehow "forced" to invade Ukraine because there was a chance that some day Ukraine might join NATO. The ONLY reason why ANY eastern European nations have wanted to join NATO since being liberated from the Soviet yoke in 1989-91 is ruzzia's 400 year long history of brutal, aggressive, aggrandizing and sometimes genocidal wars against its neighbors. If ruzzia wanted to keep Ukraine out of NATO, all it had to do was become a halfway decent neighbor.

Chinese official media do not report much on negative news about the world, but prefer to cover interesting events and technological developments in various countries. Would you be surprised. This is a fact. But another fact is that media in democratic countries are very enthusiastic about reporting negative news about China, sometimes even deliberately exaggerating or creating stories based on pictures.
In the era of self media, many bad things in the world are learned by Chinese people through self media. We have many overseas students and business people who spread information to social networks in China.
It may be related to culture. Usually, Chinese people educate their children by instilling a beautiful side of the world in them. We believe that this way, children will grow into upright and responsible individuals. I think the country is also based on this consideration. If we instill in other countries how bad it is for a long time, it will cultivate a large amount of populism.
Chinese media usually choose to report on bad things happening in the world in a balanced manner. If it concerns our country, it will let citizens know what is happening in the world that harms our interests. However, they will not attempt to exaggerate the facts and fabricate news content to provoke public emotions and incite Chinese people to hate which country.
Chinese official media reports on foreign-related news usually follow a Chinese proverb "点到为止."(I find it difficult to describe this word in English.)
At the same time, American politicians, propaganda machines, constantly sow the seeds of hatred towards China in the hearts of Americans.
The media in the United States are more inclined to incite than those in China. Based on these, many Chinese people are actually very dissatisfied with our country's media. Everyone has learned from self media how Western big media smear our country, so they are very dissatisfied with the lack of equal combat effectiveness of our official media.

It is a rather complicated story. In current Chinese values, It is more important to have a united opinion (to survive) than have critical thinking(freedom). So if the Chinese government has a public and official opinion, most Chinese will unconsciously follow it without the need for propaganda, attack all who have an odd opinion, and blame them as betrayers. However, right now the government is as confused and nervous as the western world. So it does not provide any strong opinion officially to the people, only vague, neutral even fence-sitting declarations. China needs Russia as an ally but does not want to be dragged into a war.
