I will always thank my dad for taking me to their very last ever show in The Forum at L.A on August 2015, i was 19 years old. The time they played this song, was absolutely magical, the way Neil played the drums for his very last time was something i will never forget.
Some get on him for not being able to reach the highest notes as well as he did in the past, but I think he voice has gotten better over the years, deeper and more tonal. Geddy singing “The river” at 0:35 is really good.

if you get into high end audio and DACs you'll hear 'timing' mentioned a bit. Its important because the newer DACs are truly as good if not better than analogue sources at this point. I can't recall exact figure but the human ear can detect something like 20ms discrepancy's in timing, so I'd imagine professional musicians probably have a better developed sense of this. Practice helps too, but thats key to getting this timing engrained in your brain to begin with.
This song was performed at pretty much every single concert they did starting in 1981 all the way until they stopped touring in 2015. They had almost 40 years to practice this one
I had tears in my eyes listening to Geddy and Alex play together again at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert. After Neil passed away I thought Rush was over. But I imagine Neil probably would've wanted them to keep playing for us fans. True musicians both of them are. Thank you.
@bryanwilliams3665 I have the exact opposite view of Lifeson's tone! I find it extremely unique and creative, unlike most other guitarists (and yes, not mainstream). At times his guitar tone didn't even sound like a guitar. He could create a mellotron synthesizer sound that was other worldly. First noticed on the epic 2112 album and evolving after that.
Every time I hear this masterpiece, I remember riding in my dad's truck back in 88 I believe, and asking him who is tom saywer. Haha! Love you old man and rip!!!!
In my late 80s college years, THEY were the alternative rock band, before alternative existed. Their music transcends time, quintessentially classic and progressive.
Aside from the legendary drumming by Neil, and masterful playing by the entire band, and just overall awesome composition.... How bout the lyrics?!? Deep n delicious. This is ART.
I have always loved this song from Rush and I will miss Neil. I loved the way that he mastered the drums. He will go down in history as one of the greatest.🎶

This is easily in the top 5 greatest songs of all time....
He covered a Rush tune on his channel "Get on with the fascination". That is a tune I remember from high school (I'm 61). He applied that song to his life as he was doing his critique listening to its words. I love the song so I'm biased. But the way he did it was the coolest thing I ever saw using that song. RIP Mr Gonzo. Learned a hell of a lot from you. I salute you sir.
Never was a huge fan-my bad, but there’s no denying the greatness of this three piece..All three are superb musicians and the sound they create is as good as any band ever..Cream were three soloists that just happened to be on stage together and they were great don’t get me wrong, but these guys play together and are so in synch it’s amazing..
I made my 5 year old and 4 year old sons listen to this song as a joke to them, to mess with their heads. I got shocked when they started banging their head ON TEMPO with Neil Peart. One of them even said to me: “ This grandpa is a good drummer”. Nearly got tears on my eyes. One of the few times in life i felt so happy and proud. But then I regretted it as they have been listening to this at least 5 times per day for 2 weeks now. They call this: “Grandpa good drummer song”
Absolutely love Rush..as a teen my friend who was a drummer brought his new album Caress of Steel over and said listen to this drummer and the band. I'd just bout a Pioneer stereo set, huge speakers and it blew me away. He needed some money so I bought that album from him and I still have it today.
