Thunder hammer: an astartes power weapon unique amongst most melee weapons of their class. Instead of generating a constant power field that increases the damage output of the weapon, the thunder hammer channels the power field output into the point of contact when the hammer hits something, producing a sound akin to a thunderclap. In 40k, the imperium of man who the space marines fight for are ultra-mega religious, which means spaceships that equate to a cathedral with gigantic turbines and every building has church elements everywhere. In fact, in the recent release, darktide, the sights are literal church window frames with a sight line.

Once you’ve watched Badger’s other 40K related video (Deathwing), you’ve got a few options:
If you want super serious lore breakdowns, you can look into guys like Arch (formerly ArchWarhammer).
If you want humorous yet long form breakdowns, I’ve heard that Bricky’s videos are pretty good. Most people suggest watching his videos about all the factions.
If you want something that’s funny, beginner friendly, but lore respectful, my key recommendation is “If The Emperor Had A Text To Speech Device”. Before the Sequel Space Marine 2 I recommend playing Warhammer 40k Boltgun, a Boomer Shooter made by Focus Entertainment Indie branch (same devs creating Space Marine 2) where you take as a roll of a Sternguard Veteran, (basically an Ultramarine with a white Helmet and its a Mark 6 Corvus Pattern helmet) where you investigate a strange anomaly on the Planet. after the events on Graia and Incarceration of Captain Titus, you will be sent via Orbital Drop to the surface and investigate find the anomaly, there you will be thrusted into battle fighting off Heretics, Traitor Astartes, Daemons, and other dangers on the planet to save it from total Annihilation via Exterminatus.
With a quote from thr Sternguard himself: _" I will finish what Captain Titus Started!"_

Among others proposed here Text to Speech, Arch (potentially controversial, mostly due to his morbid and gritty millennial/early Gen Z humour & calling the GW company out on its toxic practices, and social politics), there are a number of good 40K RUclipsrs I would propose. Although, I would highly propose the aforementioned "If the Emperor had a Text to Speech" by Alfabusa, its a parody but it also introduces to the lore very well.
PancreasNoWork does a number of 40K videos and some from other settings, Baldermort is the undisputed King of 40K Lore, and another great Reactor channel called OldManReacts also has his own lore channel where many of them are goddamn rants on characters or things in the setting. In the case of the OldMan, he also has been slowly working on a "Mistakes of the Emperor" series which explains some of the more historical lore coming to light in the Horus Heresy which caused the Imperium to become as it is in the modern day. Additionally, a FanWithTooMuchTime has a series called "Warhammer 40K vs Star Wars", a crossover between the universes.

I love watching people get sucked into the lore of Warhammer for the first time. The whole "Oh! It's like HALO, or Gears of War, or Starcraft.. etc.." - then the person finding out all of those are heavily inspired by W40K. The creators of those having grown up with W40K and W40K itself having been around since the 1980's. W40K in turn, itself was HEAVILY inspired by stories that came before, example; from history, mythologies of the world, and the original BOOKS of DUNE and STARSHIP TROOPERS.
Also - There's something magical about discovering this incredibly BRUTAL universe, yet Humanity is NOT the underdog. Humanity is holding the line against no less than 7 other factions, that each on their own in any other IP, would be the single greatest threat... And they are doing so all at once, attacked on all sides, completely surrounded and outnumbered, all concurrently all the way until the current setting of W40K (which is supposed to be our irl timeline) just set in the year 40,000... While the "prequel" setting of it, the start of the Imperium of Man/The Great Crusade and subsequent events of The Horus Heresy is set at around the year 30,000(~ish).

Sadly the rounds the regular bolter fires are not the size of red bull cans, they are .75 cal, so half again as wide in diameter as a .50 cal, or just under 20mm which is similar to the rounds of a WW2 anti-tank rifle.
The reason the tips of the barrels on the bolters are so huge is probably a combination of the plastic casting methods used to make the figurines not allowing for finer details and it just looking more badass that way.
If I had to think up a lore reason for the barrels of the boltguns having such loose tolerances, I'd probably go with it being to avoid the barrels sooting/gunking up from the gyrojet propelled ammunition too fast and jamming all the time.
The heavy bolter I believe fires rounds about the same size as the GAU-8 Avenger cannon that the A-10 Warthog is built around, which is still a fair bit smaller than Red Bull cans, although some lore writings has it firing fist sized bolts, which is pretty in line with soda can size.
40k lore gets ridiculously detailed when it comes to technical stuff in certain places and then when you flip a page to the next related thing everything can get very vague and wibbly wobbly for whatever reason.

12:26 Man,either are some nerds bad at math, or red bull cans have shrunk a lot.
The number in caliber is the diameter of the bullet in inches.
so a .75 cal boltgun "bullet" would be 0.75 inches in diameter
A bolt shell is "only" 3/4 of an inch wide!
Even the heavy bolter is "only" 1.5 cal or 1.5 inches, which is still smaller than a can of red bull.
A better allegory is actually a shotgun shell, as 0.75 inches is roughly the same size as a regular 12 gauge shotgun.
We actually have explosive slugs for the 12 gauge shotgun today.

Fun fact, the Thunder Hammer (and Power Fist which isn't in this) are pretty much anti-tank weapons. Yep someone made a fist so they can punch a tank to death.
Also, that red bull can is flat wrong. I get the joke, but a .75 cal is just the bore diameter in inches so you're talking a 19mm bullet. That's huge but it's not close to a can of red bull. If you want a size comparison, a AA battery is about in diameter 13mm so a little more than that or about a mm larger than a 12 gauge shotgun shell.
Plus, just to warn you, the barrier between 40k lore and memes is really thin and people get confused between the 2. Which is why everyone thinks a .75 cal is a red bull can despite a red bull can being like 3x the size.

As Badger says in the video it's actually a .75 caliber, which is about the size of a 12 gauge shotgun shell. These guys are going on the size of the muzzle brake, but that's a common error. The Imperium of Man as it stands, and has for around 10,000 years, is what a famous last stand feels like: walls are falling down around you and everyone is too busy fighting off a seemingly endless wave of genocidal monsters to fix even a single problem, the few that can are just barely keeping the structure holding. That describes the Imperium well.
Humans get a lot of shit from people who don't understand the universe and are judging it from a distance from the perspective of a modern human. Yeah, it's bad. It's also bad for good reason. The nature of Grimdark makes the darkest elements of the universe a necessary component for survival. Regardless of what species or faction you choose.
Seriously, I can't recommend them enough: Bricky's 'All Warhammer 40k factions explained' or 'The Commisar's Guide to Warhammer 40k' by Old Man. These are the good starting points for the lore.
Although if you want to take it slow and keep it digestible but also funny, watch "If the Emperor had a Text to Speec Device" by Bruva Alfabusa.
I hope I don't come off as nagging, I'm just super enthusiastic when someone new joins the fold.
There are also a bunch of animated fan films you could watch that are super well done.
    "The Last Church" and "Helsreach"
Alright, that's enough pestering you. Honestly, I hope you enjoy this gloomy fuckfest of a universe we all love to not live in.

Basically it’s a gun that doesn’t jam and shots superheated lasers that can shoot a fist sized hole thru your body but is still one of the weakest weapons out there. The only thing is that the guard is all about numbers, they are sent and die by the millions and are backed up by massive amounts of tanks and artillery.

One big difference between Gears of War and this game is the cover system.
In Gears, the Cogs are all but always completely overwhelmed and need to make the most use of everything they can to kill the Locusts.
In 40k... my brother in Christ, Astartes ceramite armour says you ARE cover for less armoured people, like Guardsmen. Put short, COVER IS FOR THE WEAK.
Also the one thing this video misinforms because Badger wanted to keep it short was, overall galactic command goes to mortal humans. In comparison to the million or so Space Marines on the Loyalist side at any given time, the numbers of humanity's primary fighting force are - without exaggeration or hyperbole - uncountable. Primarily because the Imperium's FTL travel and communication in this setting aren't reliable.
Warp Travel is at the point of a light-year distance taking up estimatably a week or so in the voyage (which remains a lot better than travelling for a year at the speed of light) but put very short, all attempts at standardization and centralized command go hilariously wrong and the Imperium handles planet by planet, system by system, sector by sector. It's not oppressive and hypercontrolling, it's desperately trying to keep something resembling a coherent output across the million worlds humanity lives upon.
In a galaxy-spanning civilization, diversity is an understatement. There are more variants, marks, makes and models of the humble lasgun for anyone to really give a shit about them.

9:30 as a side note i'm not sure that you got or not, you may have noticed that all space marines are males and there are no females. This is mostly believe to be because of two reasons, one being that the genetic template for the implanted organs needed to create a space marine are all based on the emperor and his primarch sons who are all male and the genetic stuff involved just wouldn't work, the second reason people theorize that its a counter measure against space marines replacing humanity as a whole, sure they already sterilize marines but what bigger method could you do to prevent the astartes species from running out of control but to make natural reproduction literally impossible without a female to carry.
