James Hopkins-Harrison is among the most overlooked singers in the business. The man could sing the phone book. Sadly, we lost him in 1991. Another special one gone.
I miss him all I hear is storys...scottish boy from a little town called viewpark....best songwriter ever in my books...he would appreciate you still listening to the songs on 2022...sadly i was away on holiday when he tryed to vist me when I was younger...love listening to my uncle James x love and peace x
Fuck yeah I'm a guitar player, so that's what I pay attention to I rarely give a crap about vocalists. But this guy is exception. Guitar player is not too shabby either.
@@chrisstrachan8882 so is James your uncle? One of my favorite singers for more than 40 years. You should write an article about him and his life. Many fans would like to know more about him tragic that he lost his life to addiction, but he left a legacy of great music.
Still have three albums of them. Saw them live in Cologne, Müngersdorfer Stadion, Open Air, Support for Manfred Man´s Earth Band and Genesis 1978! It was really, really great to be there! Rcorded this secretly with my cassette-deck on batteries! ;-)
You can say that again, when i found them on Spotify they were one of my go to 70's rock and then like half a year ago or whatever they fucking removed them T-T
James Hopkins-Harrison was among the most overlooked singers in the business. The man could sing the phone book. What an amazing range. Sadly, he passed in 1991 from a drug overdose. Music lost another special one.
I have just bought the first 2 LAKE albums second hand - vinyl - ....... nice memories ..... and brillaint music..... thus I was looking for authentic live videos .... hard to find.. I totally enjoy to listen to their music ....great
It's sad that the anniversary of someone's death is almost forgotten. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the website that mentioned 17 May 1991. The music makes James Hopkins-Harrison immortal. A live recording (only audio) from 1977 has been available on RUclips for some time using the search terms lake on the run philadelphia - impressive!
New fan here, thanks to Pete Pardo of Sea from Tranquility! These guys sound truly excellent live, love those harmonies and the semi-progressive riffing.
Ok, how I discovered this amazing band. A few years ago I was standing in the CD department of a Best Buys when this song for some reason was playing, lol. Liking it, I of course wanted to know the band, so I Googled the lyrics. Been a fan since then. Shame this incredible band never achieved the stardom that they should have.
The best Germany Band from the mid 70th.I saw them 2 times live -one time with Chi Coltrane. They were fantastic live. Thanks for this great video clip
@@karrZ-mi5km I didn't notice at first, but you are right. His voice and the cowbell. Maybe that explains the dead audience. They knew it wasn't a real performance, and perhaps this was the 4th take. Great voice though! (And this was done on a lot of shows at the time, with complete lip syncing).
I just picked up a CD set that includes their first three albums. I figured it was time to upgrade my LPs. I think these new "compact discs" will be around for a while. :)
I went to a promo concert for the band. Tower theater Philly. The guitarist,Alex told me he learned in the Boy Scouts. Great show. He played a Flying V. They killed Black Friday!
This is really a great find! Live videos of Lake in their original line-up are very rare. If you have more footage it would be highly appreciated if you would be able to share. Thanks in advance!
Naive millenial right here...is it the same Lake 'Celebrate'? Today's music is sadly super lame compare to back in the day tho, but still ther's some lil gems too...hats off
That audience is not right placed here . So great musicians with so bad audience. It is the first thing you see in that video. Fortunatly the musicians don't care about that bad influence of some in the audience and play their song great till the end.
Thank you Germany (with a little UK help). Wonderful band.
Alex Conti is a legend as is Lake bad ass dudes!!
I would listen to this song everyday. Very simple yet refined song. The type of song you listen to as you approach the sunset.
Love this band, so incredibly underrated! ❤️
Die beste "deutsche" Band aller Zeiten❤
Wowwww takes me back to 70s driving with a cassette converter plugged in 😢
Lake 1...still among the best releases ever!

Sorry for your loss Chris. He was the best. His music had a major impact on my life. @@chrisstrachan8882
If you listen to him closely it is almost as if he is double tracking his voice. It was so powerful that is sounds like two people singing.

So ein toller Sänger… schade, dass die so vergessen sind.
…just excellent❤

I miss James beautiful voice.
Always love you I grew up in St Louis Missouri and they were played daily
Legends. Conti on guitar!!! James is rocking it!
One of the most underrated bands ever awesome music

Fantastic band! Found them
By accident in 1977. Love them
Me too!
One of my favorite songs from the 70's!
What a great voice James had I love there music
Played the hell out of this song in college..

Had this album in the 70’s! Wore the grooves off it! Great find! Reliving my youth!
These guys opened up for Nektar in NYC back in 1977. Loved them and got their first 2 albums...great to see them here as they were back in the day.
Even if the music was playback, James was still the best singer for these songs. Really great!
Nice post! Always liked these guys from back in the late "70's!!!
Studying version with live vocals!! So great. More Lake please
These guys are great!!
Hab LAKE in neuer Besetzung die letzten 6 Jahre sehr oft live gesehn.
Ian Cussick wieder on vocals und Alex Conti on guitar.
Live der HAMMER!
Man I grew up with this album!! Priceless footage, thanks a million!
Time Bomb is another Tasty Tune from Lake!
I have just bought the first 2 LAKE albums second hand - vinyl - ....... nice memories ..... and brillaint music..... thus I was looking for authentic live videos .... hard to find.. I totally enjoy to listen to their music ....great
One of the best groups on the seventies and they were not american and kept all the sound of the West Coast. So fabulous voice.

Everything is playback here though, except parts of the lead vocal.
Klasse Alex, immer wieder gut. Leider hat die Gruppe keinen Sänger gefunden, der auch nur annähernd an James herankommt.

Cool 😎
The best Germany Band from the mid 70th.I saw them 2 times live -one time with Chi Coltrane. They were fantastic live. Thanks for this great video clip
Der zweite Auftritt von Lake in Hannover mit Chi Coltrane war mega geil aber leider bestuhlt. Ich fands trotzdem super. Ich saß in der ersten Reihe.
How lucky I wish I could have seen them. I don't think I ever heard a band with better vocals from the 70s
What about Scorpions and Eloy? Lake, Scorpions and Eloy where the best mid 70th bands!
Epitaph, Kraan, Jane, Karthago, Grobschnitt, Novalis, Guru Guru, Can and Amon Düül II would like a word with you.
aka "Mad Dad" Yeah another one of those bands
that should of gotten a lot more recognition, Great
musicians and outstanding vocals.
Wow - Always loved this band and it is so great to see a video of them. Thanks for sharing! :)
More cowbell 🐄🔔🤓
Well crafted song!
One of the best Bands in the 80s
,,,,,,,,, and 70s !
Thanks for posting this is some very rare classic stuff here
It’s so disappointing that there is not more video of LAKE out there with JHH, just a serious talent lost way too soon.
My all time favorite band!
The horrible Heroine, what a mess for James.
The music of my youth, revisited.
I still play this album often. Thanks for posting this video.
Thank you for a video of EARLY LAKE! Sure would be great to have an entire concert from 1977! They are an amazing band!!
I'm trying to look for a Whistle Test version of this song.
Sure wish we had a full concert from this period! @@user-ux9bx8kc5y
Yep. Wore this 8-track out in '78!
WoW. I haven't heard this since the seventies.
Excellent live version. Just about as clean as the studio version.
Unfortunately the only thing live are his vocals. But, he is a very good singer live here.

Thought the same thing..
This is excellent. Do you have more live footage of Lake?
A later video but type: lake-dreams in the night- 1994

WAOO
Kool
They could hold there own aganst any band
1977 in Lüneburg - unvergessen!
Why there is no Lake on Spotify? Shit.
Saw them for a full 10 minutes at a outdoor festival in 1977 and a sudden power failure ended their night.

Großartiger Song live noch besser ✌️
More cowbell!!! 😆
spotify has 3 Lake albums
What show is this?
POP 77 (German Show) broadcast date 30-01-1977
Naive millenial right here...is it the same Lake 'Celebrate'? Today's music is sadly super lame compare to back in the day tho, but still ther's some lil gems too...hats off
Yes this is the band who did celebrate
I wonder what this would have sounded like if Neil Peart was on drums?
The audience either took too many Ludes or it is a school for the deaf.
...or they're German.
Lol
lol
What is the deal with TOTOS always having the drummer up front.
That audience is not right placed here . So great musicians with so bad audience. It is the first thing you see in that video. Fortunatly the musicians don't care about that bad influence of some in the audience and play their song great till the end.
I tell you what! Elton John would have sung this great the song was definitely made for Elton John.
