As I pull that grip off, the workbench detaches from the wall, pulls the electrical line down the side of the garage, knocks the axe off it's hanger onto the hood of my wife's new BMW. But honey, I saved 11 bucks on that grip! :)

@@darrenarbergolf So sorry, as I was focused on my lame attempt at humor, I completely left out my "thank you for the vid." Thank you very much. I just used your first method to remove the grip from a brand-new club. Custom-cut clubs come with custom prices. It's so easy to cut my own and regrip. With this little tip, I will be able to salvage the grips. Greatly appreciate the video.
Just picked up a grip removal tool, slightly different than the one seen in the video, but turned here to see how a pro uses it first. Solid video. thanks!!
Great video.. my ping putter's grip deteriorated havn been stored in a room with limited to no ventilation and/or air conditioning. It simply got the box cutter treatment. Glad i found your video.. I'll try a more civilized approach on the next one i do. Ty sir!
Would this work for the LT Winn dritac grips? They’re very thick and have like an almost ring round the top of the grip. Also, any particular thing to be aware of when taking one off a non steel shaft? Would hate for a tool to ruin the shaft shoving it down like that. Thx!
I got m grip tool today and was able to removed the grip no problem. But I reused the grip on another club (using new tape) but the solvent doesn't seem to be drying inside the grip. Still slipping a little bit. Bummer. Will I need to let it dr over night.
If there is any tape remaining from the old grip may soak some solvent. But the grip will have eventually contract back after being slight stretched with removal
@@darrenarbergolf Thanks so much for this information. I needed to let it cure/dry overnight and it seems to be fine now. Next time I will make sure to removed as much of the old sticky stuff from the old tape.
What does adding the dish soap to the outside of the grip do? I'm trying to better understand how it helps remove the grip the old fashioned way, as I'm about to try this method myself!
It helps it slide over the grip without the washing up liquid it will just stick. It also helps it slide bs k over. When you try just take care in turning it back over, the grip cap can give way and the shaft with the tee in pokes through the hole.
It’s fun to get it off, just try not to get it on the cloth. Old shaft with a tee peg in will hopefully get it back round. It takes time and a lot of care. Let us know how you do.
Hi Pete, I think any method has a potential. However the grip shoot is the best method I’ve found, and is pretty successful. The old way that my old boss taught me 30 years ago does create more issues, but in the day was the only way. Glad you enjoyed. Do you do some repairs yourself?
I prefer the needle and solvent. As you stated, all methods have pros and cons. I've yet to have anyone notice, or complain, about the tiny hole it creates.
Never tried that one, got a pump put not been able to prime it. There are lots of ways to get grips off. You find what works and then trust it. I might try the needle method if I can get the pump working.
@@darrenarbergolf I should show people how I prime mine. And how I get it back up and running all the time. My larger audience currently is TikTok. It was quite the debate over there. Everyone's go to is air. Not always feasible.
I bought a set of grips off someone today. He had them taken off brand new irons at golf town. But when I got home I noticed all the tape is still onside the grips. Am I still able to put these on? I didn't even think to look inside them because they are clearly brand new and he said he had them done at the golf store so I assumed they were done right.
They can still be used, you just have to make sure that the tape is smooth without any bumps. If the tape isn’t smooth it can prove to be an issue as these might show through the grip. Also if you have tape on the grips will play slightly bigger than standard.
If there are no bumps they should go on ok, but you cannot be sure what’s further up the grip. Just be aware they might be slightly bigger than standard due to the one layer of tape.
Air compressor takes em right off....way faster and easier. Just put the end of the gun over the hole at the end of the grip tape pops loose and slide it right off with the air still going. I have removed tons of grips this way and re-installed them again.
Lots of people have suggested this, don’t have an sir compressor myself. On the other hand most of the grips that come into the shop are not worth saving.
It was mental, your heart sank when Rish said can you shorten these and they want to keep the grips. Even worse with cords, the skin has grown back on my hands. Wasn’t easy without a club on end, but I was half way through so I just soldiered on 🤣🤣

@@darrenarbergolf appreciate the info. I found some junk clubs at the Goodwill today but they had really nice grips on them so I bought them just for the grips.
Other ways: formed metal coat hanger, long Philips screwdriver. All need solvent. Rolling the grip off is hard and sometimes not possible. Adding butt weights means doing it the easiest way.
I don’t think I have the stamina do that condom technique. I prefer the grip removal tool, but it gets messy and can leave bits of tape in the grip. The air compressor is good, but if the grips are old, it can bubble if the adhesion is too strong.
It is hard work, but it was the only method I was taught when I first starting working in the pro-shop. It does help improve hand, wrist and arm strength. The grip removal tool is so much easier, never tried the compressed air as like you said I have a fear of blowing the grips. I have used a grip syringe as well which can be quite effective. Thank you for watching.
I’ve had one recently thst wanted to keep the grip because it matched the set as it had brand name on, It was still in reasonable condition. It has squally happens if the grip is relatively new.
I find it easier to just blow the grips off. You don’t save every one but it’s certainly not quite as hard work. I’d not seen the 2nd technique Darren. That is just so much hard work.
Blowing the grips off is an option, and does work ok. The 2nd technique was something I used to do before the grip shoot method. It was hard work, however at the time it was the only option. Thankfully people found alternative methods which were easier.
I remove grips by using a syringe loaded with varsol inserted on an angle near the butt of the club until the needLe gets to the shaft…….you then inject the Varsol between the shaft and the grip while working the grip around until you get to the small end of the grip…….at that point you just slip it off! Easy Peasy!
Yes that is another way to do it. As long as you have a way that gets it off in one piece it’s fine. As I’ve found over the years. They all have the potential to leave tape inside the grips, apart from the one I did at the end as you can pick it off. But it’s just too tough a job and the potential for disaster is quite high.
I’ve tried removing grips in a few ways but the grip always seems to get screwed up. Sticking something between the shaft and grip in my experience has caused the grip to stretch out on the end and when installed on a different club ends up being loose there on the end. Having the grip like that give me the picture of sock with worn out elastic and I have ended up just cutting it off in the end
Yes I’ve heard that is quite a good technique. Have never used that method. I have used a grip gun to pump solvent down shaft and then the pressure forces it between grip and shaft. I might try the air compressor technique at some point
