Richard… I know for a fact you saved me a few 100 bucks with this video! Thank you so much for not being a gatekeeper and sharing this video! Homeownership is not cheap, so anything that is DIY with the help of RUclips is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
Hey, thank you for the feedback and awesome comment. I love being able to help people save money and time. Glad the video helped you out. Have a great weekend!
Thank you so much! I’m first time homeowner, single woman, and was super stressed what suddenly went wrong. This was exactly my problem! I appreciate it so much also bc I’m unemployed from the pandemic, so you also saved me money from needing someone to come out. Thank you!!!!
Thanks, out of all the videos on this, yours is the only one that says green is always consistent. The green side on mine was out of alignment. Shortest and best video!
Thank you so much. The conditions you mentioned were exactly what I experienced last night when I came home. Must have bumped the sensor when blowing out the garage earlier that day. Even grandmothers can fix their own stuff when you guys make these awesome helpful videos!
THANK YOU! After tinkering for 2-3 hours, this was the first video I watched, I went to the garage and pushed on my green sensor because it looked slightly out of alignment and the damn thing worked like a charm! You just saved my sanity!!!!
Thank you so much for this helpful video! I went to RUclips for answers instead of calling a repair company. Your video with it’s easy to understand demonstration help me to fix the garage door quickly and easily!
We had the exact same issue this morning, we were scared as first time home owners thinking we would have to pay for someone to come out or worst case scenario, replacing the door, but you saved the day, we’re grateful for ya!
Yep. Just saved me a $250 service fee! Sensors weren't lined up at all. A tiny push to bend one and voila! Garage door now closes without my having to hold down the button inside the garage *and* my remote works again. Thanks again, Richard!!

Ok, just so happy to have found your awesome video. I’m troubleshooting my parents garage, they just bought this house and I know nothing about garage door openers. Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!
OMG!! As a single woman who just bought a house I was soooo close to calling someone to fix my garage door. I saw this video and my sensors were off. I must have bumped it taking out the recycling. Thank you so much!!!!❤
Thank you!! Just save me time, money, and stress!!!! I initially panicked when my door wouldn’t close, came straight to your video and did exactly what you said and it worked like a charm.
Good info. I have the same system. During certain times of the year and certain times of the day, my door will not go down because it is being hit by very bright direct sunlight. Not a big problem, but people should be aware that sunlight can confuse the safety beam.
Thank you so much--your video showed me one of my sensors was blocked--an Air pressure tank had shifted and blocked it. Problem solved. Your description of my symptom was spot on and it was an easy fix. Many thanks.
You are a genius. I looked at the light and it was blinking and I straightened as you suggested until it remained on red. It worked. Thanks. You as indicated are a genius.
This video saved my garage door opener, that damn thing had no idea how close it was to a horrible, gruesome death. Thank you so much! -Some Rando in 2020
Had this same door reversing problem. Sensor realignment didn't fix it so techs suggested replacement. Installing the new sensors was fairly easy even though I'm only semi-handy. Being red-green color blind presented a problem though so most helpful was you mentioning the red light not the green as the one that flashes. Thank you!
Worked very well! I wish I had tried Garage Door Genius first. In any case, I am now smarter and more capable of making this simple test (blinking red light on one sensor) should future problems come up. I even feel so good that this fixed the control sensor problem that I am prompted to lube the screw...a task I put off a bit longer than I should have. Good job, simple, clear and well presented. Thank you for sharing your Genius with us.
Thanks!!! Side note: ours had the same symptoms, but a spider built an egg sack right over the lens, inside the housing where it was really hard to see. Check for them critters before you call a repair shop!
Thanks! This helped so much. It didn't fix the problem but it helped me to find the problem. One of the electrical wires to the laser beam box had come loose. I reattached it and BLAM! It worked again!
Thanks. Hopefully my experience will help someone else. This problem was odd since the system has been in place and operating without problems since 2002 when I built my house. Then out of the blue... well you know the rest. Thank you for your help. Your videos were helpful to direct my diagnosis.
I have windows being installed at my house. Carpenter doing cutting in the garage. Must have been bumped out of signal range. Or dust blocking them. I fixed it with the above video.
@@garagedoorgenius I switched my other sensors in to test those and they had no lights either. Redid all the connections multiple times. I guess the Sequencer board can get fried from outages? Anyways just replaced that yesterday. $86 later and the sensors lit back up. Having a real tough time aligning them to get the red light to stop flashing. Any other tips?
I went ahead and swapped out my RPM sensor, no change. My motor starts and runs fine. No smell or signs of the capacitor being hot or damaged. I decided to do voltage testing to my sensors since the green light flashes along with the red. After removing the wires at the sensors, I tested voltage at the feed terminals on the drive head/motor housing. It had 13 volts. I tested the disconnected wires at the sensors and got 12.6 volts. I connected the wires to the green light sensor and the light no longer flashed and stayed constantly lit. However the voltage dropped to 8.8 volts. The voltage remained the same when I connected the red lighted sensor. When I connected both sensors the voltage dropped to 6.8 volts. I believe from my testing that I have faulty wiring. The wires will carry the voltage with only a small voltage drop in a no load condition. But as soon as I introduce another component in the system, large voltage drops are observed. I got new wire and will be installing it tomorrow.
Dave I totally admire your process. Please let me know what you come up with. I'm very curious myself. If no go tomorrow, at least you have done everything possible and will have plenty of ammunition for Genie support.
@@hchernandez03 since it is the colder months, you might want to turn up the force controls. Force controls are the muscle for the machine. When it gets cold out, your garage door opener works a lot harder. Depending on your make and model, horse controls are typically located up at the opener where the wires are plugged in at. They should be two separate dials, one for and up and one for a down.
Thank you for your post. The garage door company I called came and after 10 seconds said I needed a new motor. Total cost $600.00. After watching your post it took 2 minutes to fix.
I was adjusting the sensor with the blinking red light, to no avail. As soon as I adjusted the sensor with the steady green light, it worked. Thank you, sir!
Mine did the same thing, tried your recommended fix, lubed the side rails, lubed the screw, checked the sensors and nothing. Just an FYI for anyone hitting a dead end…I finally took a rag wiped the screw track clean, scraped the old lube gunk and dirt inside the screw track with flat head screw driver wrapped with a rag (mine was black and thick), shot the track with fresh lube, lubed the panel hinges, and finally lubed up the springs (very dry) and like all I.T. trouble shooting, disconnected the power source and reconnected it. Presto, she opened!!!! The final adjustment was lowering the open force, and incriminating the force until it opened a few times. I honestly don’t know which step did it, but something got it working. Good luck people.
Screaming!!! Thank you all the way from Atlanta Georgia I haven't been able to let my garage door down with my remote at my new house for over 2 years and just like that it's fixed thank you so much for posting this video
THANK YOU!! All this time, I figured that the green sensor meant that that one was good, and the red blinking one was the bad one! I’m so glad that someone FINALLY explained that isn’t the case! I went over to my green sensor and realized it was bent! Thank you so much!
🤔..if you disengage the opener, does the door work manually pretty decent? If so, check the DOWN force setting. It may need adjusted higher. Force settings give the machine muscle to open and close the door.
Presto! 10 second fix. Ours was misaligned vertically, sensor was pointing a little down. Rotated the bracket up a little and watched the light go to steady red. Thank you!
