Thank you! I didn't have to replace my sensors, but you helped me figure out what my problem was! Just had to reconnect one of the wires on the sensor!
The sensors in my garage had the proper lights on (one green, one red), and as I blocked the red sensor it blinked. I thought the sensors were fine. BUT, I never knew that the lenses could be dirty and cause the opener to blink red. I cleaned the sensors with a wet rage and the opener worked!
The manual has a trouble shooting section. And explains the red blinking. it can be 2 blinks paus, 3 pause or even 4 pause. each is a different problem.. read the manual first. look it up on the Genie site if you don't have one. last resort buy parts and replace.
How did you turn the power off while changing sensor to avoid electric shock? I have a switch on my wall in garage that shuts down the power, but i don't know if that's enough to avoid shock.
The issue is these garage door sensors are so outdated in their technology. Take a look at a sensor that can solve the sun issue, alignment issue, coverage issue and also help guide your car in the garage! Let me know if you want to give this a try?
Install as you advised. Easy! No blinking lights but the garage door opener still acts as though there is an interruption in signal. I can override it on the main switch by holding it down. Where is the problem? Thanks!
@@MTOgino1 , change the wiring from the sensors to the garage door opener? Yeah, that's probably the last step to check before actually replacing the garage door opener itself. Can you let me know how it goes for you and if that fixes it? I'm curious.
Sorry for the late reply...I used a multimeter. They can be bought for $40 or so, and there are tutorials online on how to use them. But it can basically tell you if there is voltage coming through the wires.
Sorry for my delayed response...didn't see this for some reason. I did it with the power on and didn't have any problems. I'm no professional, though, so I'm not sure what best practice is.
One of my sensor is blinking. However, the garage door still opens and closes even with the light blinking. But at times, especially in colder weather, the garage won’t open when I press the button. I have power, it makes a noise, but the chain doesn’t move and the garage doesn’t open. I have to pull the emergency release latch, then I hold down the garage door button for a few seconds and it works. That last for a couple of hours. Then it stops working. Do you think that’s an issue with the sensor? I’ve tried to find videos for my issue. But I haven’t been able to find one that captures my problem.
Anesha, how old is your garage door opener? I am not a professional, but it kind of sounds like an issue with the opener. Because I don't think the sensors would stop the door from opening--only closing, if I'm not mistaken.
Sorry, Chris. I don't remember off the top of my head. That does not sound like enough voltage, though. Maybe check the voltage at the garage door opener terminals and see if it's more? That could indicate a wiring fault.
Does it close all the way if you hold the button? If that's the case, and you're sure the sensors are working right, then it could be time for a new garage door opener system. I say that because if the sensors are working properly then the problem must lie with the opener, and I'm not sure what kind of fixes can be done there that are more economical than replacing the whole unit. A while after I made this video I actually started running into the same issue again, and I knew the sensors were good. So a garage door technician recommended replacing the garage door system. Meaning just the motor unit. We got a pretty basic LiftMaster and that + install was around $600. I'm not a pro, and I just shared this video because it's a common problem and fixes the issue most of the time, but I can't say for sure what the issue is with yours, so it might be worth it to have a pro come out and take a look. They'll probably recommend a new opener like they did for me, but I could be wrong.
Hits all the points. Exactly what someone needs who has never encountered this before and needs to fix it DIY. Thanks for posting!
I had this problem for months will definitely buy one and try change it tomorrow. Thaaanks
Let us know how it goes :)
Thank you so much boss! I had the same issue but at the 2:30 mark it was just the sensors weren't aligned. 👍🏾💯
Thanks
This is the best video I’ve seen yet concerning fixing garage doors. I will try this and let you know how it works. Thank you.
Good luck! I'd love to hear how it goes.
very good video, caught my loose sensor wire. damn cheap wire. anyway , thank you very much.

I just CLEANED the glass on the sensors and that fixed the problem...

We are having the exact problem! Thank you!
Happy to help! :)
Thank you for your Help and Clear Explanation.....
So I put the Sensor Wrong direction...
😓👍👍
Man thanks i need to this at my garage same exact problem for weeks now you’re the best!
Glad to hear! :)
excellent this helped me save all the hastle . i love this video and very helpful
Brother you have saved me months of madness
Great to hear :)
That was the exact problem with my old genie garage door opener sensors. Thanks for this!
Thanks for your comment, Danny!
Thank you so much. I'm sure will take your ideas
You're welcome, David! Good luck!
My sensors were aligned but where the sensor connected to the printed circuit board at the motor my connection was poor.
THANK YOU!! I have the same exact problem. And I thought the lights were supposed to point at each other! 🤣
Happy to help! :)
@@conciseisnice Thank you and Help me with my Frustrations of the Sensors that won't Close the Garage door...👍👍👍😂
You solved my problem! I'm 77 years old, but I plan to do the repair myself. I'm going to cancel the repairman right now!!
So glad! :)

Awesome. Thank you for sharing.
My garage is overhead brand so have the same tipe of censor but I don’t know if this should work for me
what upppp
Yoooo :)
I have new house
Sensors light is not on
Not even blinking totally power off
How did you turn the power off while changing sensor to avoid electric shock? I have a switch on my wall in garage that shuts down the power, but i don't know if that's enough to avoid shock.
That should take care of it. It's low voltage anyway. Probably 12 or 24 volts.
Thanks so much!

Hey, Mark. So if the lights look good, that means that the signal is probably ok. How old is your garage door opener?
@@conciseisnice probably 10 years. I got a response from maker and they said to change the wiring.

I changed the sensors and green and red on and not blinking -yet door still doing what yours did in video.
If that's the case it is not unlikely that the opener itself is bad. How old is the motor?
@@conciseisnice the house is 18 years and I have lived here 7 so it’s at least 7. It’s a Genie Pro Screw Drive.
How did you test the wire in to the dead sensors

Does it work for genie 1/2 hp
Hmm I'm not sure, sorry!
Is any model of sensors work with any garage door?
I'm not a professional, but as I understand it all sensors will not work for all garage door openers. What kind of garage door opener do you have?
How much voltage did you get at the sensor? I'm getting..O3v which I don't think can be enough?
