I like how Max has only answered the once and it was because hell froze over
Max technically answered the phone twice over both the games and TV series. He answered the phone in the TV series because of time shenanigans causing the two to never meet and become friends. It was a strange episode, like the entire series.

I've seen Max actually shoot Sam so I can safely say that this is 100% in character.
When was that? We saw Sam shoot Max with a cap gun in the games, but I haven't seen Max shoot Sam. Either way this is very in character, I feel like they joke about shooting each other like this a lot, but I have a strange feeling they wouldn't actually do it. I feel like If either of them were told to shoot the other, even under threat, they would just brush it off saying something like "nah, I got better things to do"

I'm pretty sure I heard someone say Max already shot Sam once in the games too, so I really don't see why not. The only thing I find out of character is that they never answered the phone. They ain't about to miss the call to action like that.
