Thought it was just a sorta relatable/funny compilation until I saw each segment was labeled. I'm really glad you appreciate it! I think sometimes when compilations like these are made without explanations it can just look like "oh, this guy's a bit kooky so he must be autistic"
As someone who is autistic and proud of it, I got a real kick out of this compilation. Perhaps I have more in common with the freelance police than I originally thought I did...
@@game84cube I've certainly heard of the VR game, but I have yet to play it myself as... well, I don't have a VR headset. I'll be sure to check it out as soon as I can, because more Sam & Max content is always good.
I have autism, but for most of my life I thought it didn’t change much because never realised how different I was because of it (not in a bad way, just different). This makes me reflect and notice how different thing are for me. Thanks for the comp and explaining things in the desc!
That happened to me too, when I received my diagnosis, after a long time I realized that everything was very different for me and I had not realized it before (sorry if I have any misspelling, I have problems with it)
Imma be honest, I feel like small Sam and Max speak to me on a spiritual level. My brother and I are both neurodivergent, and I think I could pick apart every one of their mannerisms and relate it to me/my brother. Specifically, the way that Sam is very good with machines and seems to be able to tone out the rest of the world while doing it, how Max never knew about the feelings of people around them, and even how my brother and I play arcade games not only for the game itself, but also because arcade games are a perfect mix of visual, audio, and physical stimulation that makes it perfect for stimming. I also see how they are so attached to eachother that they develop hobbies and interests specifically for the other person. I also heavily relate to the line that Max says, about turning down Jenny, and feeling much more attached emotionally to the arcade machine. I can relate to Sam and Max's interests in machines heavily, even in the different ways they express it. I think Max also has a very specific relatable quirk for neurodivergents. That quirk in question is his voice. He usually yells or screams, unintentionally. I also relate to the way of how they --for lack of a better word-- just never shut up. They talk and describe things right down to the detail. I realized that Sam in particular has a more neurodivergent way of speaking, in terms of grammar and sentence structure. I still whisper to myself what is going on in vast detail, often recounting my experience of something multiple times in my head, and saying it out loud. I kinda see that on a small level in the way of how Sam recounts the items in his inventory. I know that its the norm in point-and-click games, but sometimes the way he describes his items seems less neurotypical. Not to mention the fact as far as I am aware, the only clothes that Max wears are pajamas, outside of gags and jokes. This could be a possible overstimulation problem for him. Not to mention, the fact that Max is generally very hyper, and him and Sam both live very *eccentric* lives, goes a lot more into the idea that they are neurodivergent, also taking into account the way they interact with people. I would also go so far as to say that the Geek may be neurodivergent, albeit most likely in a different way.
1:08 omg. I never know how to explain to people that my memory is awful in general, but somehow I can memorize stupid things that aren't useful at all. Like math concepts are totally out the window as soon as I leave school, but I've had cutscenes from some video games memorized for 10 years. I didn't know this was something I could attribute to my autism, I thought I was just stupid lmao
I relate to this so much. I immediately forget things people tell me about in the present, but somehow remember random things from the past that aren't even relevant or important.
This is great to see ^^ I also consider it an uncomfy stim in one episode when sam is changing the channels of an old tv and max flinches and scrunches up his face in response to seeing/hearing it. Max in general does lots of fun movements tbh. He also controls his voice volume differently (like on bad day on the moon when he yells WHATS THAT?)
I have autism myself and I picked up on some of their behaviors and find it a comfort that they exhibit some of my behaviors that I usually can’t help. Sure I may be able to hold a conversation but I struggle in a lot of social situations and jump around with topics and struggle to stay on one as adhd is also in the mix.
I got adhd/add (if you are old school) and I do those things too, maybe that's why I love the series. It just helps me get through the day by being silly and chaotic
gotta enjoy how all of them kinda just do what comes first. plus i remember in the telltale game in season 3 where max gets his brain removed, Max just spirals into an aggressive spiral and intimidates people.
I'm sure there's plenty more examples from any part of the series. One I can think of especially is the part where-even though they talk to the clients- they don't seem to let more people join their personal group.
I love these two even more now, considering in the past most compilations I saw of them was just them being gay for each other. Or at least it being implied.

Ok I was watching this, the whole time thinking that it's supposed to be another funny compilation of sam and max clips, I looked in the description expecting to find like sources of the clips or whatever but there was an actual explanation to everything. God damn maybe the psychologist was right when saying I'm probably on the spectrum. I find so many of those relatable
I feel like there could be a point for max in the clip where Sam over explains that it was the geek and not the commissioner. Max asks Sam if it was the commissioner, then, after a hefty explanation that it was instead the geek, max immediately points out a long black hair growing out of sam's nose. Perhaps this is max forgetting that he was the one that brought up wether or not the commissioner was on the phone, and instead finding something he thought was much more important to bring up, rather than tanking Sam for the clarification, or asking what the geek wanted. Or something, idk All in all, good video
Also, I'm sure it's probably been brought up in the comments elsewhere, but Sam seems to have something of a obsession with food. There's obviously the glazed mcguffon, but there things like Sam admitting the he can have fudge but it goes to his hips in poker night two, and there are several times in the show where he's kinda highly focussed on food, important ones being: suggesting eating a cookie for Max's lightheadedness after going ages without a brush with death (though this might just be Sam trying to give some solid advice), asking max to look back in the haunted fridge for fudgescicles, saying he shouldn't have any more sticky buns, before immediately eating the entire tray (all from the first episode alone), Sam practically packing up the entire table after getting a message from the commissioner in Max's big day, immediately gorging himself on the mad thespians dinner, and being gifted the godhood of high caloric snack intakeage (presumably their godhood gifts being based off of things they already enjoy or are focussed on, especially since max being really into useless novelty gizmos just makes sense). Of course, these could just be from an eating disorder or something completely unrelated to neurodivergancy or something, but I felt it was atleast worth mentioning
Ignore the video chapters, I didn't know they'd be created automatically and it just looks like a mess
They actually help imo!
Warning for twitching in this clip btw
