Given that it seemed like Edmonton was rewarding the previous GM's that failed to fix the team (aside from the last GM fired) by "promoting" them it should be no wonder that we constantly hear about a "losing" culture. They don't have that many assets on the roster or in the system that they could realistically move and they can't afford to go down the road of a rebuild given how good of a player Mcdavid is.

  • @jacobward7507
    @jacobward7507 6 лет назад +3

Too bad they didn't nab Lamoriello before he went to islanders. As a leafs fan, I know how the oilers need a culture change... it has to be from top to bottom and everyone has to buy in. Get rid of the garbage contracts like Lucic that bring down the whole team (leafs got rid of Phaneuf without retaining... so IT IS possible) and invest in the youth, starting with the farm team. Acquire as much assets as possible... take on shorter, bad contracts from other teams for a few years for picks and prospects.

only option trade McDavid for a basis for a team

  • @rayjd
    @rayjd 6 лет назад +1

The only constants through this failure are Kevin Lowe and the old boys club. People forget that Lowe came out of the shadows back in 16/17 for an interview when it looked like the Oilers were on track to be a good team finally. He took some credit for hiring Nicholson and some for Chia. He explained that he made a mistake during the Hall rebuild, fixating too much on forward talent, and that the Oilers needed to shift to fixing the D (which Lowe obviously assumed was being solved).
Lowe is still very involved in hockey ops, as much as Nicholson has to try to make us believe he isn't. And all of Lowe's buddies are very involved as well. They will all be a part of picking the next POHO/GM and, as Nicholson said, the oilers "culture" will be protected from being encroached upon by the new hire(s). The culture of the OBC hiring friends and family MUST live on, that is the #1 priority for Lowe and his buddies. Success of the team comes 2nd.

  • @kahnadah

Edmonton has accepted losing as a team. "It's ok to finish last! We'll get a first overall pick!" It doesn't work that way. Edmonton accepts losing, and they have to stop. McDavid was supposed to be the savior of the team...if I was McDavid, I'd be asking for a trade. He's never going to win a Cup there with the culture of losing Edmonton has.

    Ference
    Nikitin
    Fayne
    Pouliot
    Purcell
    Scrivens
    Aulie
    Pakarinen
    Pinozotto
    Marincin
    Lander.
    Yakupov
Yes the Taylor Hall trade and Eberle trades were crap. Can’t deny that. But look at that list!!! How many of those guys are NHLers nowadays?
For as much as Chiarelli has picked at scraps this season on trade market. He didn’t trade the pick. He didn’t trade Bouchard. He stayed ‘big picture’. Even as clear as it was that he wasn’t going to be in picture.
And the Condors have now won 12 straight. That’s how deep teams succeed. With a farm system.
Chiarelli built Bakersfield. Remember that when those prospects all help make Oilers respectable again.

That ol boys club base their "winning" strategy on acquiring forwards and scoring goals only, no good defence and no good goaltending. Ok everyone look at this.... when the Oilers played against the Stars and Avalanche in the 97 and 98 playoffs they were outgunned by both of those teams EASILY. However, they won because of their amazing goaltending and defence (just watch the old games and you'll see). The Oilers could have 3 McDavids and they still wouldn't make the playoffs. The old school mentality should have been left in the past......

As much as we'd want McDavid we'd have to give up way too much! I don't wanna see anyone go but then again we do have the money

How can u say no tradable prices?
Absurd. We have Reider, Brodziak, Kiara, Lucic, Kassian on fire, Curry, Cave.... and guess what? we already brought the talent IN! Wideman, Petrovic, Manning, & got Gagner at a steal (&3mil) & he is already our big PP gun. . in case u didn't notice!! Ya, I'll keep our talent thank u very much!

Get rid of lucic and sekera is step 1 and then look to free agency to find some scoring depth...trade them for puck bags, give them away with picks what ever it takes to move them on and look to get 3 wingers with the remaining cap space

Why is anyone surprised? Other then Connor,Ryan,Leon what do the oil really have? There defense is AHL at best and same with the goalies. Would hate to be the next GM,because this just isn't a very good team.

Dallas owner came out swinging since then Dallas Stars are stars and have landed in a playoff spot.
Where is the Oilers owner filling up his pockets with his new stadium.

Hitch bought PC an extra month, extra $100k, & helped to rule out coaching as the cause. Hitch likely earned $500k for 2 months.. & another $500k for next 6 wks to ride this one out. Owner will have the summer to work on mktg messages... New gm & coach can hire new scouts w u proven track records.. Fans can work on enjoying the game & focus less on idea of winning. Funny thing is team has a ton of close games- just a little short..

It's gotten to the point where this group of millionaires are being thanked for playing with effort (the 1 out of every 10 games they play with effort by the way)... what a sad time to be an Oilers fan. Effort should NOT be something they're praised for... Effort should be expected!! When you praise effort, you lower the bar. Not good enough.

They can't win at home okay but at least put an effort into it. They are giving nothing for the fans to root for. I'd be more happy with a loss if I saw some genuine effort each night.

exactly! they need to admit the organization was run to crap and the team has no skill!!! Nicholson needs to admit the roster is not good enough and begin to fix it!!! Even Hitch has said recently over and over again that "the team is not built a certain way" - meaning the team is not build with enough skilled players!!

I wasn't impressed with Even Bouchard from the WJ. Now I don't see him other than that but he was underwhelming in that tournament.

Gretzky left, Messier left. (And that was after winning it all). Connor will go sooner then later. Sux, but a reality.

Should of rips the players too. Played with no passion. Especially when the teams they played in the past and keep losing for the fair amount of times. They don’t get sick of losing to the same team over and over? Where are the old, rough stuff hockey at? Feels so bad for those fans that fills the area every single time they played. Those players get paid a lot of $ I mean a lot....
