You make a good point - management roles are not for everyone. Growing up, I remember my mom telling me I should go into business and become a manager. (I was 12 or 13 at the time.). Although management came easy for me as the years went by, I cannot help but wonder if I originally took this path for the wrong reasons. She also told me that I should stay away from owning my own business - which I am doing now. Parents mean well, but sometimes the voices in our heads advising us are not actually our own voices when we listen carefully.

I have been supervising for a number of years and the challenge of learning and helping customers was my why for accepting. As the years passed I wondered about that role because managing people is not something I particularly enjoy. I enjoy training, identifying solutions and creating the process for execution but not so much the constant oversight of staff. This video raised the question for me and is something I probably need to revisit in 2023.

It has been MANY MONTHS you popped in my feed. When you said "mango" I grinned because you're so personable you shared that in earlier post and I remember you like mango. You are driven to make impact on people's life...and in that you share yourself. It sticks & it connects us to you & helps us trust you. Keep doing you. You're making an impact.

How can I sign up for your course. I do feel very defeated, and it's giving me anxiety too. I am terminating someone's employment today, and it's not the easiest decision to make.

Hi friend, I hope that the termination went as well as it could have for you and the individual being terminated. I'm sure it was the right thing to do though difficult. I'd love to chat and determine if NMA is the right program for your needs. You can check out the details and book your call by clicking here: makedaandrews.com/nma

Awww, thank you for this recommendation. LOL because of the username here, I'm not sure which NMA student you are. You'll have to let me know in upcoming session who you are. Thank you :)

When I want to quit most is when a managers boss or supervisor tend to humiliate and undermine them before their team which makes it difficult for them to manage the team because now they feel they get a pass to act any way they please. It’s defeating and I don’t stick around for it to continue.

Thank you for this video. I’ve been feeling defeated these last few days as a new healthcare manager. This video helped me tonight!

The healthcare field is really hard. You have a lot of constraints and the ratio of manager to team is unbalanced. But you'll get through it. Keep your chin up!

Doing doing doing....need to take a pause to move forward. Doing for the sake of doing, we start to make mistakes & lose sight of WHY we are doing. Spot on.

I'm a manager who feels unsupported by other management team members as well as the organization leader. What does this mean and what should I do without sacrificing who I am? I am very close to leaving the organization because I didn't expect this type of negative management environment.

Do you mind if I ask what field of work are you in? Sometimes sexism plays a big part. I feel thankful that I am supported by my boss and others, but as a woman, manager and I am only 25, it's hard to be a manager as everyone sees you as a kid. Moreover, I am an Arab. You can only imagine the rest. My team consists of people OLDER than me. The person I am literally terminating today has given me too much trouble. For example I was off 2 days and when I came back today, she had the sandwich board outside while I left clear instructions not to because the mall management had told me of they see it they will fine us. I also said not to ring up customers under a Jane Doe account. She responded by saying "I will continue on my behavior" I have given her so many chances, and firing her from work is really giving me too much anxiety as I do have a heart for people. I know she can't afford living here or paying her rent, as she always complains she's broke, but as a manager, I have to do what's best for the business because if I don't, that jeopardizes my position as well. She left me no option to defend her with corporate as I used to always do.

The Executive Director and his assistant Director are men. I am a woman. I believe sexism is part of the problem but also antiquated approaches to management. These are men who are in their late 60s.

Hi friend, I read your comment below as well and that some of this is attributed to sexism and old approaches to management. I'm so sorry that you're in the midst of this. My mentor always says to me, when I'm in situations where I am trying to continuously fit a square peg in a round hole - Mak you've already seen the best this is going to be so what are you going to do to change it if it's not working? So I want to pose the same question to you. Without much context I'm thinking you have three options:
      1. Stay and do the best that you can with the team that you have. Focus on only what you can control.
      2. Assertively surface your concerns with the management team. (this I have done before)
      3. Find a place that is more aligned with your values.

@@makeda.andrews Hello...thank you so much for your feedback. I didn't know the management dynamic would be as it is. I think my energy will be better spent in another organization. I haven't made a firm decision, but I have started looking at my options. I think leaving will be the healthiest option for me.

Thank you so much for your video. I am going through a hard period as wel. I have a supervising position the past 3 months and it is pretty overwhelming. The taking a break is such a good tip because the past 3 months i was busy 24/7 but actually working 34 hours a week.
Thanks for giving us so much tips to become better.
    Greetings!

Hi Mak! I love your video, but please please please stop using that high pitched ping sound 🙏 I listen with ear buds and it is ear drum splitting, brain numbing painful when that ping goes off. 😢 I'd hate stop listening for fear of ear pain. Please, I'm begging!
