    Treat yourself or find the perfect gift for your favorite music maker. Sonic Youth's sound helped define a generation, and jams like "Teen Age Riot," "Wish Fulfillment," "100%," "Diamond Sea," "Bull in the Heather," "Cross the Breeze" and "Karen Revisited" immediately came to mind when we heard you wanted us to give the work of Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo the #PotentPairings treatment. Watch as guitarist Joe Darnaby joins the Daydream Nation in this installment.

    The phaser on Diamond Sea needs to be much more yoyoyoyoyo

    • @s.fields8770
      @s.fields8770 6 лет назад +12

      I believe SY used a Ludwig Phase II. The Blue Dinosaur Interstellar Watermelon is inspired by the Ludwig. EHX's Talking Machine and the EQD Interstellar Orbiter (unrelated to the Watermelon) also do the yoy-yoy-yoy sound. Some other wahs and phasers do this, but those are probably the 3 best, if someone was wanting to nail a cover down.

    • @bardomudo
      @bardomudo 6 лет назад

      The EQD Interstellar Orbiter is also pretty decent for Diamond Sea. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/L8yGmL2s7Ys/видео.htmlm32s

    • @s.fields8770
      @s.fields8770 6 лет назад +5

      I'm sure you're convinced of that, because a $600 yoy-yoy has to be better than a $300 or $200 yoy-yoy.

    • @s.fields8770
      @s.fields8770 6 лет назад

      "An obscure pedal you can't buy..." Why can't it be bought? They've been on Reverb for years. How is the GG Rendezvous better at yoy-yoy? Let's see you explain how its yoy-yoy is the best yoy-yoy.

    • @amandacatherine793

    it's finally here, now we need the one i always misread, that beith My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields, i always misread it as Bullet For My Valentine
    Teen Age Riot: you oughta change the pickup selector to the middle or neck, first verse still needed to be on the neck or middle but the tone was quite close so it'll have to be a 7/10 for me
    Wish Fulfillment: needed to be on the neck pickup this time and less twangy for the first guitar but the 2nd one was perfect so that's definately a 9/10
    100%: The intro was very good while not being exactly alike as it's impossible to get it perfect but i'd say the guitar and bass was good but it should've been a bit more broken and fuzzy so i'll give it a 8/10
    Diamond Sea: the clean guitar was super close though the phase guitar should have been probably a different phaser cos the original sounded more like an "eyeyeye" noise, though it was quite close so 9/10
    Bull In The Heather: the intro harmonics and precussion sounds were perfect and the lead guitar part was spot on so 10/10
    Cross The Breeze: needed to be a bit less twangy but the tone is close again so that's 9/10 for me
    Karen Revisited: clean guitar needed to be less bitey and more smooth, the backing guitar was good, the bass was good though, it all blended well so 9/10

    The biggest aspect of their tunings is unison strings. Produces that chorus effect. A simple tuning that is easy to start with is go to drop D and tune the 2nd and 3rd strings both to 'A'. This D-A-D A-A-D. SY doesn't use this but it is an easy way to get the unison sounds
