Which of the 2 irons do you think looks the best? Callaway, Titleist, Cobra or TaylorMade?
I would take the cobra! excuse me ignorance! why not use a 3hybrid instead of one of these?
Taylormade
I’m thinking titelist. Also, I think you should do something with juniors.
What is your app for you shot tracer
Taylor Made
You did that sped up rewind of your first 2 iron swing and I definitely thought you slammed the club on the ground for a second lol
I thought that too lol
Same
This
Definitely thought we were watching an uncharacteristic Rick meltdown.
Timestamp?
1:23 I thought you were slamming your club on the ground 😂
Definitely lol

I have the U510 and that thing has been an absolute beast. Very reliable and my favorite club in the bag!
I've got a PING 410 2-iron. Played Education City Championship (Qatar Masters) Course today. On 18th tee, 560yds uphill. Hit 2-iron off the tee & again from the fairway... stuck it on the back of the green (570yds). Brilliant club!
You should try the Wilson staff 2 iron that Gm golf has
I have it. It's okay. It's not very forgiving. Catching it on the toe results in the ball going about 10 feet. And the sweet spot is really close to hosel.
@@ctubridy Rick is a pretty good golfer though.
I have it in my bag super easy to hit and I get like 250 carry out of it.
@@finnkiger5200 cap
@@rorylindholm6811 Rick is looking for more forgiving clubs these days, though-not game improvement clubs, but player's clubs with forgiveness in mind.
Would a Mizuno HMB or TM P790 UDI 2 iron come close to any of those irons ?
You really needed to try the Wilson Staff 18 degree 2 iron! Would highly recommend!!
What shafts did you test in each of these? It looks like all were graphite except the cobra. Is that accurate? And can you speak to the steel versus graphite in a 2 iron/driving utility iron?
I've heard lots of good things about the Srixon 2 iron. Would love to see that one given the Rick Shiels treatment!
I have 1 lol never played a single successful shot on it . The Sxiron ZU85
That's such a cool driving range. Never seen anything like it near me!
I have the u500 in 4 iron and 2 iron with atmos black 95 X shafts. Did my best rounds this year (78, 3 times) when switching my driver out for the 2 iron.
Hi Rick, surprised that the Wilson option (which is the best of the lot IMO) or the Mizuno didn't get a look in here...
Hello I love your videos keep doing what you do! I’m a 13 year old golfer and your videos help so much!
Great video once again. I picked up a MP-14 two-iron off of eBay years ago just to hang it on my wall. When I found my ball keep hitting branches trying to escape under the trees, I decided to give the 2-iron a try. It’s been in my bag ever since. It’s a special occasion tool like my 60 degree wedge and it simply gets me out of trouble and lets me play the next shot from where I want.
i feel you man i love using my 2 iron but if i’m real i use my 60 degree almost every hole when i’m just outside the green lol
Sad to see that beautiful 2 iron from Wilson Staff overlooked again. That thing is great.
Srixon has had some great utilities lately too, sad to not see them here.
I have the 18 degree staff model. Incredible golf club.
Agree with this one.. the Wilson Staff Model Utility 18° is much better.. watch Michael Newtons comparison of the Wilson vs the MP-20 HMB and you'll believe.
Exactly. I had the gapR then tried the wilson and immediately made the switch. Feels so pure.
Sadly ego gets in the way of pretty much all RUclips golfers. It's not PRO enough to put in the video.
Hey, Mizuno needs some love too!
I play the MP-20 2-iron and love it. Soft feel (duh, it’s a Mizuno) and can draw, fade and hit stingers.
And srixon!
I have the Titleist U500 2 iron and still waiting to gain a bit of confidence in it on the course rip it on the range however Gunna take it out and hit it of every tee and get used to it
Can you do a video on tee height for woods and irons, how high or low you place the tee how does it affect the shot , height , direction etc
So first off great video and second the clubs that you get to test, do you get to keep them and the ones you dont like what happens to them?
I have the p790 2 udi and love it. You have reviewed it in past obviously. I just love the iron I get great flight out of it and it feels great.
I'm playing Wilson Utility 2 , 18 degrees with an Event Flow 90
stiff shaft . Just loving it .
Titleist u500
I put one the bag this year and it’s my favourite club. An absolute rocket
I have been using my 2i GAPR-Hi for a few seasons and I can't say I have ever asked this question since. That thing is a beauty.
Please do a try out on 1 length irons...Im hearing a lot about how the same length on irons really help alot...and do the one lengths go all the irons???
What wash your old 2 iron? I remember it in videos a couple years ago, but cant remember it
I have no problem hitting my Taylormade 2 iron UDI high or low... I rip it with a 220 is carry - feel like butter off the face love it
My brother gave me a p790 2 iron because he can't hit it and I love it. I'm wondering if I should get all p790 and if they hit as good.
I've got the Srixon ZU85 2I in my bag, and I love it!
Recently bought the Srixon forged ZU85 2 iron for shorter par 4’s after finding how easy it was to hit especially off the tee and given its price £129 it’s a great club. There is a new one out the ZX but don’t think it’s available to buy until 2021
I play the cobra 2 iron off 18 hcp and love it! not going to lie it’s great sometimes looking down at a chunky club when you need to hit a tight fairway!
Have to say I bought the cobra with the steel KBS shaft in stiff and while a lovely feel it just went a bit high for me as I want to use it at my links course. However, I had managed to get a Miyazaki Tour Issue 105g xstiff shaft and after contacting cobra they very kindly sent me an adapter so I could try that in it. Wow! What a change in flight and spin. It is now an absolute bullet of a club and the adjustability is an added extra. Suppose what I am saying is that unless you are using the same shaft in all the 2 irons then a true comparison is difficult . Love the fact that driving irons are swing a resurgence though and great review rick.
👍 glad of the outcome of this video! I’ve got u500 3 iron... absolute rocket 🚀 love it so much
Would you recommend these for mid-high handicappers too? I get lots of spin with all woods/hybrids but hit 5 iron (my longest iron dead straight) im after that 220+yds club
I’ve been loving the videos lately Rick! You continue to put out great content and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Keep up the great work Rick!
Hey Rick! Love your videos so much, and after watching this last one I had an idea: what if you made the shot tracker colours correspond to the type of flight path the ball takes? For example blue shot tracker for a draw, red for a fade, and yellow for straight shots. Just a thought, as it would make it obvious what type of shot you hit even on clips that aren’t filmed from directly behind you. Cheers from Canada ❤️
Rick what do you think do this idea?
I’m a 12 handicap and looking to buy a driving iron. I don’t need much workability as I’m just looking to hit fairways.
I’ve decided to buy a mavrik 4 iron at 18 degrees of loft. I feel like this will give me the distance I want, but also the most forgiveness possible for a driving iron
got the x forged myself, such a workable and surprisingly forgiving 2 iron.
Hi Ric. How do you hit pistion the 2 iron. I have a z3 comp mizuno. Great video.
I tried the Titliest and Taylor Made when I was looking. Bought the Taylor Made, it’s been great for me.
Hi Rick I liked your views on the different 2 irons but I am surprised that you didn’t try out the Srixon 2 iron which is the one I use. I am a 9 handicapper and on a good day I can hit it 230. I was just your opinion on the club . Maybe you could try one. Regards Colin
my biggest question is do you need a 2 iron? do you carry a 3 and 4? do you use hybrids? fairway wood? So with those answered whats your gapping like? do you hit a 2 iron very well, i.e., a proper distance? is this something you should be fit for? And btw Titleist look best especially from address
For a fellow over in US would you still recommend Golf Bidder? I’m looking to get some secondhand clubs since I have a beginner set of irons which don’t go below a 6
Rick, Unrelated question. What Model Nike golf shoes do you wear, and are they Comfortable?
Fairly new to golf and have just bought a new set where there was no mention of a 2 iron. Why would you use a 2 iron vs a hybrid or 5W and should it be in everyone's bag?
I love my Mizuno MP60 2 iron. Part of a complete set 2-P. Not a "utility" iron; it's just a stronger 3 iron.
Haha love the vids Rick, love the fact that you are always changing clubs and finding what works best for you. If only I had the money for that 😂😂
I carry a PING i-210 4 iron in the bag, it's my club off the tee and has about 220-230 carry(My driver needs some work). I am not sure if i should bump up to a 3 or a 2 iron?
Rick, you didn't test the Srixon Zu65? Used by The Open Champion? Would have been good to hear your feedback on that in comparison.
I have the Ping crossover 2-h iron and I would highly recommend it, you should’ve included it...
I have the SIM DHY and I think it’s the most versatile club I’ve ever used
It’s so hot off the face. Lots of pop
How so?
@@RockyStatue I can hit it high and low when I want. It’s very good off the tee I can hit a big high draw or a low punch fade with it. Has great feel off the face it’s VERY HOT off the face. Highly recommend people try it. I got the 3i option which is 19° and I got the 75g stiff flex graphite shaft.
@@sebastianheine378 100% it is a HOT club.
i have the dhy #2 and is absolutly a killer from the tee and the turf. but i keep as well a sim udi #3 for his unique lower trajectory. in windy days makes the difference and is perfect for a stinger shot.
How about using the easier-to-hit driving irons with the same test...like the TM DHY, Titleist U510?
Love that 1st hole....A real tester....
Loved seeing you hit into that lake. How many ppl just try to smash over the little retaining floaters they have?
can you test the wilson launch pad irons?
TM looks best. I'd be interested if you like the Taylormade DHY SIM as it more resembled the GAPR Mid.
RIck - not sure what is different about the camera work on this video, but I could really see the ball flight much better than most of your other videos. Really cool and very enjoyable to watch. Like you, I went Titliest U500 without trying any others. Will have to give the SIM a go as well. Great vid!
I want to know how far is the average distance with these. What is “that range” like I need to know if I want one.
Why no 790udi mate? Definitely in my opinion the best feeling
Rick I have the u510 and by far it’s my favorite club. I rarely use my m6 driver bc I hit my 2 iron 250-260 carry. Absolutely recommend the Titleist
Your videos have help my game tremendously... Why is it we never see anyone else on the golf course?
Rick, sometimes it feels like a slap when hitting my long iron (3-4 irons) and not getting the desired distance - any advice on what it might be/common mistakes with not being able to see a pro at the moment?
Nice review as always Rick.
Wondering if you might review some very light drivers, those around 250-260g total, instead of the usual 310g ?
Can you test the Wilson launch pad irons?
I am 85 mph swing speed , 13 years old, 12 handicap, should I get a 2-3 iron
Iv genuinely been thinking about this! I currently swap between a 3 hybrid and a 5 wood.... But what about a 2 iron?
You should get the Callaway fitted. I have the 70g Ventus hybrid shaft with the 12g weight in the head and it is great. very workable with the additional head weight.
So, 2I = great off the tee and off of good lies going for a Par-5 in two. What about not-so-good lies and deeper rough? What's your choice there?
Some of my favorite videos of Rick’s are long iron reviews! I have the previous generation cobra king utility set at 2 iron loft and I love that club!
TaylorMade P790 UDI is the best 2 iron that I've tested. I'd be more interested in the DHY as a 3 iron replacement over the SIM UDI, just don't think the P790 can be beat.
RICK, this is the EXACT video I’ve been looking for! You’re awesome man!
Have been looking into getting a 2/3 iron combo as my 4s head flew off into the drink so I'm missing something I can smash 200+ once my local golf town allows for test fitting I'll take a look then. Appreciate the vid rick!
If you want to see some crzay results with those utilities heads try them with the Xcaliber Rapid Tapers. Shockingly good results.
I'm convinced I need a 2 iron especially for the tight tee boxes, will have a look at the cobra as I like chunky 😁
Little bit confused as previously you said you wanted a iron that could pack a punch out of semi rough. I think 250 yards 2I to what looked like a smallish mid size green was asking too much. But I agree the one you chose looked the best and height is essential from 200 plus distances to the green.....got to stop that ball, better to be short than long in most cases.
Nice to see you putting them all through their paces! In lockdown in France at the moment, so no golf for a Month!! Good to have your videos to watch!
Was just looking at getting a 2iron so this video will help thanks Rick
Great video! Have you done one comparing 2 irons against similar lofted utility clubs?
I agree with not trying to fix what’s not broken, but it’s so hard to not want to tinker a bit to see if you could be missing out on something better.
I use my dads old set of clubs, he used to enjoy golf somewhat but he is much too competitive for his skill level, he can never take it easy and just play so he doesn't anymore. He has a 2 iron in there and while he was a great driver hitter he couldn't hit a 3 wood off the fairway and wasn't exactly a great iron player so basically his 2 iron was his longest club after the tee box. I know he has absolutely ripped that thing, the grip is super worn and falling apart, he was probably muscling that thing to like 280, I know he could carry a driver to like 330 if he really wanted. It's just funny to see how all his clubs are in pretty good condition but his 2 iron looks like it's been through a war. I love that club
There's also the Srixon ZU85 - gorgeous looks and feel, surprisingly forgiving
I think you discovered what sells golf clubs... everyone wants something new but, unless their clubs are extremely old, newer clubs may not make much of a difference. I like the side-by-side comparison. That’s probably something we all should do. Great video, especially the editing and the drone work. Cheers!!
All the irons look nice in their own way, some slightly more fancy looking. The thing is most golfers will not be able to hit a 2 iron well but nice to see when hit by a pro.certainly a thing of beauty.Incidently how cool to hit a ball into water deliberately.
@3:07 great visual work. Next step, combine the image, or at least the flight with colors after the 4-way view. Love the channel.
I love my Titleist U-510 1 iron!
any thoughts on the Mavrik long irons? I'm looking for something longer than my 3h. Can't seem to hit my fairway wood.
Are you able to compare the P790 UDI vs the Sim UDI?
Did you consider the Mizuno HMB 2 iron?
I'm curious. What do the floating balls feel like? Are they hollow?
Are we building up to a WITB? Still gaming my own “Old Blue-ie”, (bagged my first ever Eagle last week), but those Titleist fairway woods are very tempting! Great review, keep up the great work.
Hey Rick, could you do a review of the Lucky Golf putter? They don’t have any reviews on RUclips that I’ve been able to find. Thanks man
What about round 2 with the p790 Udi or the gapr range
i hit the cobra king utility around 280. my favorite club in the bag
Why not the Mizuno MP20 HMB??
If my driver carry 270. And my 5 iron carry 240 (straight). Should I buy a driving iron because it may goe straighter and as far.
I love the sim one I have tested it and it is so pure to hit. My favourite is the sim defo.
Actually like the look of the TaylorMade best of all of them, but I understand about not being able to get it up high enough in the air . I hit long irons myself, and most of the people I play with avoid them, but I really enjoy hitting the long irons well. In Florida sometimes we have some deep moist rough and you really need to rescue club to get out of them, otherwise I wouldn't carry one. I'm kind of simple anyway, I only carry one wedge.
Let me also say that I have actually applied three individual tips that you've given, and I have cut my handicap in half. That's the truth; I really appreciate it.
I’m one of the few dinosaurs in my club who still uses traditional MP33 blades, that includes a 2-iron. And yes, still use it regularly on Par 5s and off the tee on tight fairways. It carries 235yds but can be pretty unforgiving on off centre strikes. I sometimes think of getting a more modern variant, but they all look really chunky!
Check out the P790 UDI. One of the best I found that didn't really LOOK like a utility club.
I have been using my M2 irons for a little while now. I love how long they are but I struggle with the ability to shape my shots with them. I was wondering what a good drill or technique would be to maximize the ability of me and my clubs. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I think m2 irons are game improvement irons.. if that is case they are designed to not shape
