- Phil X jams Helter Skelter by the Beatles, in a small bar. For footage of his band "The Drills" , "Powder" and much more, visit philx.tv
Although the venue only had a small riser for a stage, a low ceiling, two light stands and a tiny sound system, the local audience was treated to an amazing night of rock on August 29th 2009. The Musicians in the jam night included; Guitarist (Phil X), Bassist (Kevin Gingrich) and Drummer (Paul Hoffman).

Phil X spent a few years kicking around the club scene in Toronto, Canada. It wasn't long before he started developing a reputation as a guitarist with some serious power behind his sound. One day, after a twist of fate, he was asked to play for Tommy Lee. The next day he was in the studio and began recording guitars for MCA's Methods of Mayhem (Dec.'99). Since his reputation as being a raw, inventive and energetic guitarist got around, Phil X has recorded with Daughtry, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Rob Zombie, Gavin Degraw, Alice Cooper, Andrew W.K. and many more.

The bass player was born to sing this song!
I love Phil X like a brother. Great song, great performance, great stuff!!!
Phil X kicks aSS!!! thumbs up if you agree!
awesome
magic drummer! Great performance! Awsome Guys! you Rock!
Fantastic voice for R&R. Loved this cover
damn... this is one of the toughest songs to sing.... and the bassist did an amazing kob, not only cause he reached thehigher notes, but for the attitude he puts in this song.... amazing.
Kevin is a killer singer!
The Musicians in the jam night included; Guitarist (Phil X), Bassist (Kevin Gingrich) and Drummer (Paul Hoffman).
WOW! Nice job!
Belle illustration de ce merveilleux morceau des légendaires THE BEATLES...Ils ont ouvert la voix à beaucoup de groupes pop/métal...Total respect !
Phil X kicks all forms of ass!!!!!
AWESOME!
He has an amazing voice....
thanks
very nice! i like that way!
awesome! ;D
Consider this classic knocked out of the park.
this gave me fucking CHILLS.
i can feel the badassery from here!
My favorite version of this song.
@IDanClarkI nopes, the line-up for this particular song featured Lennon on bass and McCartney on lead guitar
impresionante
Great music! I wonder how many music did they played! So many :D
his band are good!!!
Are you still alive
@MrRandom612 he pushed the string down (not on the nut, but a bit above it) and then picked it. that gives you that diving sound.
this drummer is yelling along... haha what a good performance from all three!!
KEVIN ROCKS!!
Are you still alive
@EccentricRichard Musically, they weren't as virtuosically talented as say, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, etc., but they were definitely very musically sophisticated and influential. The biggest advantage the Beatles had over their peers was their consistency. They just consistently wrote good, catchy songs, whereas a lot of other bands of the time had only a handful of real hits.
oh yeah.
you may hawablewewehowadander haha laughed so hard
800th Helter Skelter Like..........14 years....later!
Excellent performance
All it was missing was "IVE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!!" :P
i wana see more of the bassist singer
Not a huge fan of covers, but damn these guys bring the noise.
Just my honest opinion. But. I like this more than the original!
Wish Phil X would have sang as well. Phil X Master Guitarist
@udovdh That has not been done yet, lots of people asking though so you never know!
@sharrer2 - maybe you're right. As for technical guitar-playing, sure Malmsteen and John 5 and so on are very impressive, and I do listen to them a bit, but there's nothing like a good ol' dollop of old-fashioned soul and fun, Phil X-style.
Are you still alive
いいね💫
@HarryAndAGuitar Fuq yeah!
You're not going to get crap, they're just different voices. His lower range is probably better than Phil's, but Phil's higher register makes me smile every time.
I would have loved to see them trade vocals in this, but awesome nonetheless.
@individrus exactly,lennon played bass
@sharrer2 - now, I've not really heard Phil playing anything especially original (my fault for not listening to enough of him, not his fault for lacking originality), but let's face it, the guy's technique and soul are as good as they get. He's a truly great guitarist, and an absolutely lovely guy to boot.
He has MANY great & Interesting Originals. Sadly, 98% of what's on YT are covers. Very good covers... But, Covers.
I know good musos when I see them
Phil X is the chuck norris of guitar haha
Are you still alive
@EccentricRichard Harrison, Lennon and McCartney are all in the top twenty. Harrison was a underrated guitarist also
@rocconrollo Actually, Paul had to play lead:) As on the original record
Phil makes the show! Btw what's that shit above his neck pup? Is it only for fun or has it some reason?
he doesn't use neck pickups because it interferes with the other one or something so since there is an empty hole in his guitar he puts shit in it for decoration
That's bullshit! In my opinion it doesn't make any difference. But it looks cool to have a fan or what instead of a pup. 😂
+Martin Dobranský Even when not using the neck pickup it still has a magnetic pull against the strings
Where's that DVD? Or download of the whole show?
Peter Stormare on bass?
Is this a Powersoak on the left side of the Roppoli head?
What tuning were you guys in? Im trying to play along in E but just sounds off. :/
@Seebbew - compared to other bands of the same era (The Who, the Yardbirds, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, maybe even Led Zeppelin), the Beatles were still mediocre. Now, that era is my favourite for rock music, I'd love the Beatles if they'd been good enough. 2010's music is mostly crap.
@IDanClarkI i don't understand who are you referring to :/
When R you tourin Australia?
at 0:36 did the singer mess up
@ViniciusMaffei Sounds like Gary Moore singing
@EccentricRichard Your taste is your own but about a billion people worldwide feel otherwise.
@locriz too bad McCartney didn't play bass in this song...
what si the bassist singer name
@ViniciusMaffei Would have been better if Phil sang it.
No, Chuck Norris is the Phil X of everything else, but guitar and singing.
Well, add 1 more to the list of people asking. I've got $50 right here.
@EccentricRichard Eh I'm not a fan of the beatles either, they are overrated, but I do respect their legacy, it's not easy to make a band thats remembers half a century afterwards. Phil is an amazing guitarist, maybe not the best, but who wants to listen to the best? Go listen to Malmsteen play 20 million notes in 3 seconds if you want "the best". Cheers mate.
enorme, la grosse claque!

@A7XRULES60000 - nonsense. Compared to other bands of the time - The Who, the Yardbirds - later Led Zep - and proggy bands like Cream, King Crimson, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, and, at the darker end of the scale, Steppenwolf and Black Sabbath and suchlike, the Beatles are beige, insubstantial pap. Their lyrics are mostly simple and naive in the extreme, their melodies laughably basic, their rhythms laughably simple (no complex time signatures at all), etc.
@A7XRULES60000 - this is pretty much the only Beatles song I can actually stand listening to (well, this and Eleanor Rigby). Most of the time Lennon's smug-sounding voice just makes me feel angry.
Be interesting to get Phil's opinion of The Beatles rather than listen to the inconsequential ramblings of some Neville Nobody who's only contribution to music is that he farts in tune.
@sharrer2 - don't get me wrong, I love Phil, I love Led Zep, I love Pink Floyd, I just find most of the Beatles' output to be mediocre pap. What's more, Lennon and Starkey especially were arrogant egotistical c**ts (Ringo still is).
I know I'm going to get a lot of crap for saying this, but that bassist sings better than Phil.
@A7XRULES60000
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
THIS IS A FAKE DRUMMER! HE DOESN'T HAVE BLISTAS ON HIS FINGAS!
The only exciting song the Beatles ever wrote. A good song, but such an overrated band. Phil X and his mates shit all over the Scousers as far as musicianship and all-round niceness as guys go...
@A7XRULES60000 - that's just so hilariously ridiculous as a claim that all I can do is laugh. He isn't even in the top twenty as far as I'm concerned. He just sounds exactly what he was - smug, arrogant, egotistical, hideously overrated.
@Seebbew - yes, there is something amazing about the Beatles. Several things, in fact. Their arrogance, their egotism, and just how bloody overrated they are.
I don't know. Middle aged women wetting their pants doesn't quite have the same appeal. Or does it?
Steve Dyer - You are 5 years older now........is there an answer to that question??
