Phil X doesnt have an ego at all... he's one of the most humble people ever. if you watch more videos he's even like "GAH why can i not play today? im sorry, i suck right now. okay." and is just very friendly. he isnt all hyperactive cuz hes being an egomaniac... that has nothign to do with it. he's just having fun. he has no attitude, he's just a chill guy who likes to play his damn guitars
Note to self: Whenever Phil strikes a chord and his eyes roll back and he says "Oh my God, that's awesome!", get ready for a treat. "Hey Joe" is one of my favorite Hendrix songs and to say Phil did an awesome job on it is an understatement. I never heard of Phil until I came across these demos and now I am a fan. Thanks to FrettedAmericana for sponsoring these videos. I know you do it for advertising but it is such a treat for those of us who love old guitars and great playing.
Man, he reminds me of the guy who tried to teach me in the old days. He also played a "Hey Joe" with most of the wrong chords and still made it sound awesome. I mean, he knew everything by ear, so he was almost always wrong, but he could make anything sound right.
Phil's reaction when he first plays something on the neck pickups is hilarious, like he came in his pants upon hearing such great tone. This actually made me dig out my copy of "Are You Experienced?", hearing Phil play Hendrix on that thing.
Phil X, you are one of the 6 people that are making me get guitar lessons and be a great guitarist, I starting to get more into guitar because of you, the way you play the guitar absolutely amazing, dude, you Rock.
YOU are an incredible guitarist! im only a 14 year old alternative guitarist (been playing 7 years) and i just want to say your videos are awesome!! now you know your inspiring the youth. good job!
man i love your demos! it's nice to see someone actually rock out on the instrument instead of just talking and playing a couple sound samples. the energy you put out in these vids is fucking contagious too. also props on the covers and awesome rock n'roll singing. i'm canadian too
You're natural and you rock - It's nice to finally see guys that plays for FUN, not for showing off. Thumbs up Phil, sweet guitar by the way, it makes my tiny little MIM blackie very shy right now , hah !
phil x you rock man, this is by far one of my favorite sounding guitar styles, being able to rip and let loose while still keeping it tight and together feels soo natural and positive. so many guitarists playing strictly by the books these days. just recently found these videos, now i watch before i have to work puts me in a good mood. cheers
I love that video . How playing guitar just cheers you up , phil :) you looked quite sad at the beginning at the video , and it made feel sorry , and then you play some hendrix and look so lively and play , sing with so much soul ... it's awesome and i enjoyed the musical moment . 'when i feel sad , i become awesome instead . true story" (one of my mantras ,don't know who said that in the first place)
Phil's got some great chops on the fretboard. Hell, HE'S KICKING OUT THE JAMS!!!! I've been watching most of these clips & they're entertaining as well as inspirational. I diggin' these clips!!!! Where else are you going to find a phenomenal guitar player tapping in THE SPIRIT OF HENDRIX??? PHIL X RULES!!!!
@ lyons4398 the 60's tonemaster we talk about is made by magnatone and is the original tonemaster. the fender tonemaster is a completely different amp with the same name and is a high powered head as opposed to a 15 watt combo which is what we have.
From all of the guitarists that I admire Phil X is the most important for my guitar playing ;) It's huge achievement, because this group consist of masters like Jimi, Frusciante, Clapton, BB King, etc. All of them are great, but Phil gave me something what is the most important.PASSION. Half a year ago I've looked at this video and I understood that it's not about playing so fast and precisely. It's about fun. And when you enjoy playing guitar, technique will come in due course. Thank you :D
he is very well known in the music business, but not as much mainstream. I agree though, I would love to see this guy get some singles up on the charts
Man, you are so cool!!! I play acoustic guitar at the moment, but I have always wanted an electric guitar and most of all...a Fender Strat. My dream electric guitar set-up:Fender StratMarshall AmpWhole array of effects pedals.
I hated this guy when I first saw some of his videos. Soon enough I realized he's not a douche at all, just a super excited musician that gets in to it and has some incredible skills and enthusiastic about it. Keep it up Phil X and Fretted America!
Come on Phil it wasn't all that bad up in Canada, sure you taught at band camp but you also gave us a killer performance once again and the other instructors as well at the resort next door! Not sure if you remember me, I was one of the tennis coaches there and had a 1983 Kramer Pacer Special I wanted you to try out but we never got around to it. Anyways, enjoy watching your videos man, keep rocking!
Great vid, keep on rocking!! Gonna use some acdc lyrics to express myself: We rock at dawn on the front line Like a bolt right out of the blue The sky's alight with the guitar bite Heads will roll and rock tonight For phils about to rock, we salute you yes we do salute
It is so funny! I used to work in a music store with Aldo Nova when I was much younger, about 34 years ago and I learned that Phil played with Aldo some times ago! The world is small indeed! I have lots of fun with these videos BTW! and I don't mind if he rocks on Jazz guitars. Music is supposed to be fun. ;-)
Phil, you're really on "Fire" here! You clearly love the guitar - I'm afraid I struggle to match your enthusiasm. I mean, a Strat's OK as a general purpose guitar, and it's great when you pile on the reverb, U2-style, but for the most part, gimme a Gibson any day. Speaking of which, I see you've still got that Lucille - any chance of more from her? I'd love to hear the entirety of Communication Breakdown (as you played a fragment of the main riff on the Lucille), followed by Bring It On Home!
love the way you demo guitars man, with different songs to match the guitars era , I´m SO tired of people running trough the blues scale when they demo guitars.
this is really the best guitar show i `ve ever seen ...and i know them all ;-D, great show , and these little tonemaster amp is awesome KEEP ON ROCKIN` !!
Man I love this guy!!! I wish there were more guys like him making demo videos as cool as that, but I guess then there would be more guitar store owners getting heart attacks. I mean seriously, I don't know many people that would go as crazy as he did between 5:07 and 6:26 on a guitar that costs as much as an APPARTMENT!!!
I'd love to see Phil X host a late night show for musical acts trying to get their big break. No big name acts. No game show, American Idol type contest. Just a show that features real touring musicians, of all different types of musical genres.
Does anyone have more fun with a guitar than this guy?
Phil X is the real Jack Black from School of Rock :))
"PHIL X GOES CRAZY!"
You mean like every video he's ever done?
Phil's reaction at 2:01 to the sound of this guitar is priceless.
That is the look of true love and passion for guitars and music.
It's so refreshing to see someone tearing into a vintage guitar. The way it's supposed to be played.
I know you do it for advertising but it is such a treat for those of us who love old guitars and great playing.
i would watch this guy even if he sucked at guitar
I loved the end "I'm canadian", that's priceless ! Phil, you're amazing !
I had to watch this video 3 times in a row just because of the title. truley amazing, Phil X is the best
Man, he reminds me of the guy who tried to teach me in the old days. He also played a "Hey Joe" with most of the wrong chords and still made it sound awesome. I mean, he knew everything by ear, so he was almost always wrong, but he could make anything sound right.

This actually made me dig out my copy of "Are You Experienced?", hearing Phil play Hendrix on that thing.
I've watched a bunch of Phil's videos now and I've never seen anyone with more energy...! Yoww........!!!!
@matzchase - nothing is ever planned with Phil...that's what makes these videos so entertaining because they are completely spontaneous !
Phil X does his unique guitar magic again...a true king of the electric guitar!!! Bravo Phil!!!
i cannot get over the fact that whatever song you sing, your voice is perfect for it. rock on man
best video ever, and best strat ever.
Period.
Unless you speculate and do not play 6 hours a day electric guitars on great amps.
This is the first frettedamericana/Phil X video I ever watched and now I'm a die-hard Phil X fan. Love his playing. Lots.
Dude...what happened at 5:05, think it took a hold of you then. Awesome

Dude. I come to you whenever I need inspiration and it works. Now all I need is some talent.
man i love your demos! it's nice to see someone actually rock out on the instrument instead of just talking and playing a couple sound samples. the energy you put out in these vids is fucking contagious too. also props on the covers and awesome rock n'roll singing. i'm canadian too

These videos are always a treat- I'm always sad when they are over. Thanks so much!
phil x you rock man, this is by far one of my favorite sounding guitar styles, being able to rip and let loose while still keeping it tight and together feels soo natural and positive. so many guitarists playing strictly by the books these days. just recently found these videos, now i watch before i have to work puts me in a good mood. cheers
OMG, that's one of the best sounding Strats I've ever heard!
I was having a shitty day, and I saw this Phil X video and it cheered me up. Thanks Phil X, you are amazing hahaha
best guitar demo ever
With these videos Phil X ensured himself immortality. Long live Phil X!
LOVE this guy. wish I had one ounce of his attitude, talent and passion. Well done! keep rockin Phil.
he plays the guitar like a beast and has soo much fun with it.. awesome!
Hell, HE'S KICKING OUT
THE JAMS!!!! I've been watching most of these clips & they're entertaining
as well as inspirational. I diggin' these clips!!!! Where else are you going

PHIL X RULES!!!!
Best Hey Joe Rendition I've ever heard !!!
Phil X is the man!, and this is one of best sounding strats i have ever heard, amazing tone! if only i had the money lol
When I feel uninspired, I just watch a couple of these videos, laugh my ass off, and pick up my axe. Thank you, Phil!
Do work son!.... good to finally see a quality review. Neck p-up tone is legendary, as is the bridge. Fly on legendary stratocaster!
Phil X, I love the way you exude your love of the instrument and your passion for music! Keep rock'n!
This is exactly the guitar I imagine myself to own when I become a world famous rockstar
@ lyons4398

wow he looks young here

THIS VIDEO ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL BETTER
I like Phil X.
He is a great player, he loves music and he gets to fuck around with some of the greatest guitars ever made.
I want that job!
he is very well known in the music business, but not as much mainstream. I agree though, I would love to see this guy get some singles up on the charts

Great vid, keep on rocking!! Gonna use some acdc lyrics to express myself:
We rock at dawn on the front line
Like a bolt right out of the blue
The sky's alight with the guitar bite
Heads will roll and rock tonight
For phils about to rock, we salute you

man. taht tone he used for fire was just amazing. it was distorted. but you could hear the jangely tones of the strat. PHILX...ROCK ON
It is so funny! I used to work in a music store with Aldo Nova when I was much younger, about 34 years ago and I learned that Phil played with Aldo some times ago! The world is small indeed!
I have lots of fun with these videos BTW! and I don't mind if he rocks on Jazz guitars. Music is supposed to be fun. ;-)
Dude. What is that riff your playing at 4:56?! sounds amazing!!
Phil, you're really on "Fire" here! You clearly love the guitar - I'm afraid I struggle to match your enthusiasm. Actually, he's 43 at the time this vid was filmed
Phil X seriously is one of my favorite players of all time. Mostly because he covers most of my old guy bands, probably. Regardless, AMAZING

If you want to hear the original, go listen to the original. Phil does his thing, has a great time, and god bless him for it.
In my opinion this is the best sounding guitar you reviewed.
Defenately this is the best guitar review what I've ever seen! :)
You gotta like this guy. Sheer natural craziness and one hell of a player.

That distortion pedal has the that sound of tube gain breaking up. SOUND KILLER!
Man I love this guy!!! I wish there were more guys like him making demo videos as cool as that, but I guess then there would be more guitar store owners getting heart attacks. I mean seriously, I don't know many people that would go as crazy as he did between 5:07 and 6:26 on a guitar that costs as much as an APPARTMENT!!!
its crazy how you're so crazy and u still hit the notes crazy.
Your awesome, I've never seen someone cover Hendrix so well.... !!
this is my fav vid by phil x
Remember Phil X: You break it, you bought it!
Its refreshing to see a classic strat being used for its intention instead of sitting in a hardcase in some rich guys collection
Gosh, you inspire me so much to just keep practicing
Dude....I met him and hung out with him for a week at that band camp!!! IT WAS LIVE :D
@hidethecorpse1 I'm sorry but it sold - it was listed at $9,500

Another great job…Many hours in a dark room and pow awesome guitar player.
I don't play myself, but I just love guitars. But my favorite Phil X video, so far, is the White Falcon.
Holy Crap!!! The part that starts at 4:56 is an incredible lick!! jeez!! So freakin cool. Love it!!
Insane F-series Strat...They are so much brighter than later S series...I love "big" head!
Dude that was the greatest song that and the let
Me stand next to you're fire songs and national anthem what that was great well done Phil x
Love this guy why is he not super famous????

Most entertaining shit on RUclips!! Love the vids Phil........Need more!!
I'd love to see Phil X host a late night show for musical acts trying to get their big break.
No big name acts. No game show, American Idol type contest. Just a show that features real touring musicians, of all different types of musical genres.
@themotocrossman83 the song is "Fire" by Jimi Hendrix
1:57-2:01 "AND that's a clean sooooooooooun-da." Amazing.
