    Beautiful. This is what church is supposed to be like. Much more reverent than a praise band. I wish more churches would move back to the traditions that were pre-established by our beloved ancestors and hymnwriters.

    • @davidprince8811

      I so agree with you. Drums and guitars just aren't what I want to hear in church. I went to a church that had praise music before becoming Catholic. We have beautiful music at the church I go to now, plus God bringing me to the Catholic church was truly a gift.

    • @peteryoung1461
      @peteryoung1461 3 года назад +1

      Not quite true, s007ja. As soothing and reflective as this hymn is, it is not any more "reverent" than what you call a praise band.
      All forms of praise and worship do have their place in church. The scriptures do encourage us to use all forms of praise to our God and savior, Jesus Christ.
      Ephesians 5:19 tells us to "speak" to ourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.
      I do agree though that it has a different effect upon one as the melodies and lyrics do allow for deep contemplation, in a 3 1/2 minute space, about God's awesome love and work with humanity. Blessings.

    Having grown up an Anglican and a long enthusiast of hymns and choral music, there are few or none in the world who can sing virtuously as the choirs of St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and King's College Choir. These boys are trailblazers and will leave most other aspirants in the dust! In fact I dare add that they are simply angelic particularly when you hear them bang out the descants so effortlessly but with riveting effect...and yes they're from the UK and I'm proud of my boys.

      Very close to the mark. Here in Oz each Sunday morning we get to sample the choral singing from a variety of English Anglican churches. So hymns require a choir to bring out their best.

    As I rise from sleep, I thank Thee, O Holy Trinity, for through Thy great goodness and patience Thou wast not angry with me, an idler and sinner, nor hast Thou destroyed me with mine iniquities, but hast shown Thy usual love for mankind; and when I was prostrate in despair, Thou hast raised me up to keep the morning watch and glorify Thy power. And now enlighten my mind’s eye, and open my mouth that I may meditate on Thy words, and understand Thy commandments, and do Thy will, and hymn Thee in heartfelt confession, and sing praises to Thine all-holy name: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
    O come let us worship God our King.
    O come let us worship and fall down before Christ our King and God.
    O come let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and God.
    AMEN

      Organgrinder1010, the atmosphere in a church comes from the Lord’s blessings on the building as a result of prayers said over the centuries.
      ‘The prayers of the humble man pierces the clouds’. Ecclesias. 35 v 17
      And God hears the publican’s prayer at the back of the Church. The Pharisee at the front who parades his deeds is proud and has to learn from the Publican at the back. Luke 18 v10/

    It is outstanding and astounding.

    Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven;
    To His feet thy tribute bring.
    Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
    Evermore His praises sing:
    Praise the everlasting King.
    Praise Him for His grace and favor
    To our fathers in distress.
    Praise Him still the same as ever,
    Slow to chide, and swift to bless.
    Glorious in His faithfulness.
    Fatherlike He tends and spares us;
    Well our feeble frame He knows.
    In His hands He gently bears us,
    Rescues us from all our foes.
    Widely yet His mercy flows.
    can't add last!

      +Ann Hastings Hundreds of CofE primary schools around the country, as well as some more old-fashioned non-religious ones too, still celebrate all the Christian festivals you mention, with religious services, as well as daily singing in assembly. I'm a teacher and know of many schools beside my own (in multicultural Birmingham, no less) who still do all of this. All is not lost.

    In Indonesia, we have this song in Kidung Jemaat KJ no 288. Mari, Puji Raja Sorga
    Mari, puji Raja sorga,
    persembahan bawalah!
    DitebusNya jiwa raga,
    maka puji namaNya!
    Puji Dia, puji Dia,
    puji Raja semesta!
    Puji Yang kekal rahmatNya
    bagi umat dalam aib,
    dulu, kini, selamanya
    panjang sabar, mahabaik.
    Puji Dia, puji Dia,
    yang setiaNya ajaib!
    Bagai Bapa yang penyayang,
    siapa kita Ia tahu;
    tangan kasihNya menatang
    di tengah bahaya maut.
    Puji Dia, puji Dia,
    kasihNya seluas laut!
    Kita bagai bunga saja,
    layu habis musimnya,
    tapi keadaan Raja
    tak berubah, tak lemah.
    Puji Dia, puji Dia,
    yang kekal kasihNya!
    Sujudlah, hai bala sorga,
    abdi Allah terdekat;
    turut, bintang, bulan, surya,
    tiap waktu dan tempat.
    Puji Dia, puji Dia,
    Sumber kasih dan berkat!

      Dorothy Gager unfortunately God does not hear the prayers or praises of those who are in false religions rebelling against truth. They are actually judged worse because they are here. And the false priests and teachers that have taken over this religion in England will suffer eternal damnation.

    When the trebles came in with the descant I lay on the floor and sobbed: memories of Sheffield City Grammar 1950, with Ann Darwin singing the descant. Glorious, glorious music, and I'm not even a "Christian! First chord of the last line C,Dsharp,Fsharp, B resolving on A. Surely the most thrilling combination in music?

      I sing alto in a church choir and have perfect pitch. My favourite chord is an A major first inversion. This hymn should be sung lustily. In 1950, my father was about to be called up for National Service and my mother, aged fourteen, played the Bach Double Violin Concerto with an older girl at Friary Grammar School in Lichfield!

    You will recall that this is one of the most "live" acoustic spaces in the world. Speed will make mush of the whole thing with a reverberation like that.

    I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (September 4), we sang this as our closing hymn. However, it was God instead of King. The new lyrics were written by Walter R. Bouman, 1927-2005. It is #864-865 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

    Keep in mind, nitwit, that the tempo and pauses also accommodate the ENORMOUS acoustics in this massive cathedral. If the hymn is played/sung too rapidly, the sound will just blend. I think this video clip is an outstanding performance of this outstanding hymn--tailored for long resonant acoustics.

      You are absolutely correct - a reverb of about 9 seconds.
