The moving picture frames really sell the shadow effect.Magic shops sell a lot of remote control devices for telekinetic type tricks but are expensive since its a small market and to protect the secret.
I love how each video teases the next totorial. I love the idea of the moving timed paintings. Your totorials always inspire me to come up with something similer.
Hi SkellingtonGhost, well I do have a bit of that theme going on. Thanks for noticing, watching and commenting.
This is one of those "It's very complex but actually not" projects. Yes, there are a lot of steps, but each one is simple to do; the hardest part for me personally would be drawing the silhouette.(yes, even with the grid). Great video!
Hi Susan, thanks for the comment and good luck with the hand silhouette. Drawing the first one is the hardest and as I said in the video, simplifing the drawing down to the basic shape will help. Have fun and please let me know how it turns out.
I hope people appreciate HOW MUCH time you take to make these tutorials. First just the idea for the design. Then all the testing and re-design till you get it "right". THEN all the filming and editing each segment, and all the variations that you actually show to make it so clear. (plus all the money spent for all your efforts). Thank you SO MUCH for your efforts! Can't wait till the next one!
Thanks Cory, you must have placed a hidden camera in my garage! All that you said is very true and unfortunately because of it, I just don't always have the luxury to put out many videos (this season for example). I do think most of my viewers do appreciate the time and effort it takes, such as yourself. However, RUclips does not always and it seems to reward those Content Creators that can crank out a video every week. Oh well, that is the nature of the beast that I have taken on... but it is always nice to receive encouraging comments like yours!
Hey Paul! Awesome job! Man i wish you made these year round! Lets start celebrating halloween every month!
Thanks Cody... once I clone myself! Appreciate you watching and commenting.
Yeah! It's the HALLOWEEN DIY & HOW-TO time of year again. I gotta say, every year I tell myself that I'm done doing up the yard for Halloween. It takes me two weeks to get it all set up and last year...we only had 12 kids, 12. But then I see a new HALLOWEEN DIY & HOW-TO video and it's back on, and if only 5 T-o-Ters show up, their going to get the best experience that I can give them, and it's all thanks to Paul and your BOO CREW and your videos. On a different subject, has anyone else heard of a petition to observe Halloween on the last Saturday of October instead of always on the 31st?
Those 5 or 12 kids sound pretty lucky to me, you are giving them great memories! I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to the 31st of October... but who knows. Thanks for watching Steb, and for commenting.
Hang in there, Steb! With pandemic restrictions being greatly reduced, I bet you get more kids this year. As for the petition to move Halloween, I've heard of it too & I do NOT approve. It's literally a religious holiday for some folks, and to suggest it be moved because it's "inconvenient" to celebrate it on a week night is ridiculous. I bet there'd be quite the uproar if a group of non-Christians demanded that Christmas get moved to the third Saturday of December.
@@susanowen1709 I'm with you, could we celebrate "All Hallows Day", "All Saints Day" or even "Reformation Day" on the 31st but have"Trick or Treat Night" on that last Saturday night? I truly didn't intend to show any disrespect.
@@stebstebanesier6205 Oh, I didn't think you were showing disrespect. I apologize if my reply came across that way. From a personal standpoint, it would still feel wrong not doing trick-or-treat on the actual day of Halloween, but that's just me. :-)
@@susanowen1709 🙂🙂🙂
Love the hand, and how easy it is to put together. And then you added the moving portraits! What??!! That's awesome. You are one of the best on youtube for Halloween sir!
This is one of the best Channels for Halloween prop tutorials on RUclips. Everything is done so well, audio quality, video quality, instructions, parts list. So well thought out and executed. So Well done Paul! Thank you for all the effort and energy to devote to making such great content.
In return Joe, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. It really is appreciated and goes a long way!
Love it! How did you get the pictures to move in-time?
Hey Charles, thanks for asking. Well, it is just fishing line attached to the botom corners of the off-set pictures... and then pulled by hand. Very low-tech!
That Is So Cool!!!! Love It!!!! I Can Not Wait To Make One!!!!! Thanks For The Detailed Info!!!!
Thanks Wolfman, let me know how it turns out!
Paul! My favorite imagineer! What a great day.
Well, as a kid it was my dream to become one... so perhaps I did. Thanks shade for such a nice complement.
Love it. Saved to halloween/party playlist
Thanks wrllovemen!
Another fantastic video!!!!! Looking forward to seeing the next one 👻
Thanks Laura. Unfortunately this year will be just the two latest videos, however I am getting an early start for next season and hope to make it up to my subscribers and viewers. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms more than happy to wait. I know it takes ALOT of work and pre work to make these videos. I appreciate every one of them!!! Enjoy the holidays. And Happy Halloween 👻🎃🪦
Great job Paul!
Thanks CFAO.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Paul what's that cool music you put at the beginning?!
Yeah! Now I gotta go watch!
Hope you like CFAO!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms me like! Now to go by parts!
You must do a video with the pictures. That is the neatest effect.
It's called "My sister is behind the curtain pulling fishing lines", sometimes the easiest ideas get the best results. I have in the past moved pictures like this with a slow moving motor, however getting it to be timed with the hand shadow is tough. Therefore... enter sister!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms That is easy, and great for the video.
Thanks Laura and Edward for watching and commenting, it means a great deal to hear from viewers.
WOOOO IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YHIS ONE!!!!
I hope you like AJTOPIA! Please let me know.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms this is awesome! Thanks for your unending creativity
Wow so simple yet awesome
Thanks Omar, sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.
I learned so much in this video…thank you!
And thank you Stephen for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
I love the way you manage to repurpose and combine simple components! This device is so elegant. Great work.
Sometime the hardest part of building a prop is finding all the right components. Thanks John for your thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it.
First of all, Brilliant as always! I think the light source could be an LED, if you used a foam diffuser or something to spread out the light. Even the automotive bulbs you can sort of see the filament on the light bulb on the wall... I know it's not easy to project light... but here's one trick I learned years ago to remove an LED's "hot spot" is simply drizzle some hot glue on the lens of the LED. I had several flicker LEDs that had a hot spot like a bullseye, but some hot glue and it breaks up that pattern and looks really good now. So give that a try and see what scary effects you can make with them, maybe even diffuse the LED enough to make it throw a good beam of light. Next part: I'm curious how you made those pictures move. If I were to do it, I'd use a photoresistor, Arduino, and a servo motor... you probably have a real sneaky way to do it...
Thanks Ray for the great suggestions! After trying several different LED's, I went back to my trusty automotive bulb. Hopefully my videos inspire folks to "make them their own" by trying different approaches based on ability and availibility.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms I agree, the automotive lightbulb throws the light you want and I could tell you tried several LEDs so the auto bulb is the simplest. However, another thought occurred to me... I also have mini-LED spots with lenses that throw a nice light that you need, they run on 12V and are housed in a nice aluminum cylinder, and have a wire with a connector on the end to make it easy to just plug in, I think I got mine at fright props, I checked their website and the product seems different, but they have them. So there's a possible source of simple lighting that you can see if they might be a replacement option if you need smaller and less power hungry lighting. BTW: 28W @12V = 2.1A, not the 700 mA power brick you have, so in that case either that might stress the power supply or the bulb won't be as bright... On the other hand, depending on LED size/etc., small ones run at low current depends on brightness needed: 5, 10, 20 mA at the most. so 0.020A compared to 2.1A... That's 100x less, right? (And I know someone will say it... yes, there are more powerful LEDs, they are rated in the watts and they take higher voltages and amps to run... we're only talking about the smaller type... until I know what light is needed I'd start with the small one)
As always - great idea, great execution and great tutorial. I’m always amazed at how original and professional all of your videos are.
Thanks Arlen for your very complimentary comments, they are always greatly appreciated.
Easy to see the work you put into these videos. I always enjoy the through explanations.
Thanks Chris for your appreciation of the work that goes into my videos.
I’m always so excited when I see a new video from you!!! Loved this one, looks very doable even for me 😉🧡🖤🧡
Thanks MrsC B, I hope that you will give it a try. I also really appreciated you taking the time to leave a comment and for watching.
Yay! It wouldn't be Halloween without an amazing PAUL KREUTZ how-to video (or three!) Thanks for not letting us down in 2022! BTW - I am still on the lookout for a used Mamaroo bassinet -- I really want to make your "floating" table gag for our séance scene!
Thanks Steve for the very nice comment... and good luck with your search!
"You might have seen this effect a time or two in this iconic dark ride."
Yeah, but with the moving picture frames on the wall, you did it BETTER. Can we get a follow-up video for that?
So glad that you think I did it better!! Thanks Bob, you crack me up. Well... looks like moving picture frames are on my to-do list for next season.
I’m impressed and Inspired by what you have created here. Your very talented & creative! I have been making lots of Fall & Halloween Themed items on my channel too. I just love this time of year! Keep the great videos coming!!
I will have to check out your channel! Thanks for all of the kind words and compliments.
GREAT this is very spooky...so cool and easy to do...thank to your great explanations!
I am thinking of making two.....one with a hand and another with a bat on a thin wire with a piece of thread so the bat can dangle off of the wire and look like it is fluttering
A little advice...when you cut the connector off of the transformer cut back a few inches....if you leave a little wire on the connector you might be able to reuse it on another decoration that takes that size of connection.
Hey Tim, great ides... let me know how that bat shadow goes. Also you are right on the barrel connector, cutting it off a few inches below would allow you to reuse it. Thanks for the comment.
Nice! I can put this together easily. I wonder if a 12 volt relay could trigger the motor when the light is turned on?
Hi Patrick, I always like to hear from people that take my props a step or two further. I try to keep them somewhat simple for a wider audience but please let me know what you come up with. Thanks for watching.
I love your tutorials! I’ve made the Raven and am currently making the Bride. I’ve put my own twist on them though 😊 My raven has a different head, is covered in feathers and has red glowing eyes.
Wow Little Red Hen, that's fantastic. I'm glad you are putting your own twist on it. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment.
I appreciate how much detail you provide! I love making Halloween decorations but leave the technical things for my husband. You give such great instructions I might just be able to make something. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your videos!
Also, If you do get a chance, do you have any pointers on the axworthy flying ghost? My kids love it, I love the idea, but my husband hates trying to make it work. Thank you so much for your time regardless!
Thanks Dayna for appreciating the time that goes into these videos, I hope that you will tackle one of these builds one day. Let me ponder on the axworthy flying ghost for a bit, and get back to you.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thank you so much! I have watched so many Halloween "tutorials" over the years and have always felt confused afterwards, the amount of work you put in is amazing.
If you don't have the time to think about the axworthy ghost, I completely understand, just thought I would ask.
Great tutorial, I’m buying the parts! Can you point me to where I can find the single contact bayonet socket? Having trouble finding it…
Thanks for asking. Here are two resources that I have found:

www.lightingsupply.com/satco-nuvo-80-2318.aspx
@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Hi Paul, Someone may have already asked but do you have a DIY on how you could move the portraits using a reindeer motor ?
Can you share a tutorial on how to make the moving pictures?
Thanks for the question Terri. For the sake of the video I had the pictures affexted to the wall with a pivot and then pulled them with fishing line at the appropriate time. In past haunts, I have had the fishing line attached to a rotating motor to pull them. If I have time this season I may be putting out a video showing that process.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms oh, wow that would be great 👍 if you could! Thanks for the info.
Your videos are incredible! I was binge watching them yesterday. The link for the motor you're using doesn't work. I've been looking all over the internet for a motor 3 - 5 rpms, but I can't find any. Do you have any additional ideas where I might find one?
Hello and thanks for bringing this to my attention. The source originally listed for the 'Hanging Display Motor' is unfortunately no longer carring this product. I have updated the discription to this video with a list of 5 possible alternitive options. I hope that helps and thanks for binge watching!!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thank you so much! I'm going to share your videos with my friend at work who helps me decorate our office for Halloween events.
Hello again. Will you please tell me where you found your Bayonet base single contact socket with two screw flange? I've looked high and low all over the internet for one and I can't find one. I purchased one that I thought was the right one. It was hardwired, but it didn't have the two wires, it only had one.
I'm sorry that you are having difficulty finding them. If you can't find them online, I would visit your local lighting store, light bulb store or even a car parts store where they will probably have parts catalogs where they can be ordered from. That is actually where I found mine and learned about all the different types available. I hope that helps.
How did the pictures on the wall move?
For quickly producing the video, fishing line and someone pulling them off camera. I have motorized moving pictures before with the same effect... perhaps a How-To video for next season?!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Sure. Go for it.
I think I have an idea what you can probably try to make. In Disney's Haunted Mansion ride, there's an animatronic called the coffin occupant. It's a prop casket containing a mechanism which shows a pair of zombie hands trying to lift the lid open. The mechanics do look pretty simple. Here's a link to a video showing how it works. ruclips.net/video/lQU703H42E0/видео.html
Hi CanadaDragon1. Thanks for the link to this cam driven animatronic! It is a great example of how a constant rotation motion can be turned into a repeating random motion, simple yet effective.
