Ahoy Mateys! Halloween 2023 is fast approaching and we’re making a bunch of DIY scary outdoor Halloween decorations. First up is a drunken skeletal pirate animatronic inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean! This video covers a ton of Halloween DIY techniques. We start with a simple plastic skeleton that you can get at any store like Home Depot, Lowes, Spirit Halloween, or Party City. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to build a simple swaying animatronic mechanism using PVC pipe and a wiper motor. We’ll also show you how to corpse a skeleton using cotton, latex, and contact cement. This corpsing technique gives you a more decayed look vs. the more mummified skin look that corpsing with plastic wrap and a heat gun gives you. We’ll age and weather clothes from the thrift store and finally paint our skeleton zombie to make him look super scary and realistic!
This easy DIY Halloween project is a great way to dive into the world building your own Halloween animatronics. If you love Halloween DIY projects and want to see more of our DIY Halloween props, check out our Endless Drinking Skeleton ( • Endless Drinking Skele... ). We also have a ton of other DIY Halloween outdoor decorations and animatronic makeovers on our channel!
Check out DemonGround (demonground.com/2023/rocking-...) for the original swaying zombie/rocking torso animatronic mechanism design!

Arrrrrrgh, thanks for watching mateys! The winning name chose was DAVEY BONES! Congrats to @Alwaygood88. Should we do more giveaways? 🤔
Question, if somebody is outside the US, can they still enter the giveaway?
But can I ask you for money? ( asking for a friend)
Mr hippo full size please
The skeleton popped up 4 times! You should name him John, great video!
Four times total! and I'm not great with names, but maybe Slim Matey?
For one of your next projects, you should make a shipwrecked pirate ship to go with both of your skeleton pirates! ☠️⚓
That'd be pretty difficult, but I still wanna see it
I love this idea but where to store it.................................... 😅 We need a bigger space!
You could make it in three pieces that are buried in the ground
Hmm, find a way to make it modular? I believe in you guys! Haha@@WickedMakers
Perhaps more pieces than ship, wood, metals and debris all over the yard instead! Like taken down by cannons
You guys come up with the greatest Halloween decorations in the world
thank you!!
Hi I wanted to let you guys know that I love Your Videos! They are extremely cool! For me on my channel I want to start doing DIY videos but I'm Still thinking about it. I already have my house decorated and all of my decorations are DIY! Also I wanted to Let you guys know that I saw The dancing Skeleton 3 times But 4 With the one when you guys were talking about it. I am Subscribed, I actually subscribed Even Before I saw the part that you guys were talking about the chance to win the prize I just really Love your Guises Video's! Also I do live in The US. But Besides that I’m think the Name of the Skelton should be "Ol’ Winer” besides that Keep Up the Great Work!!@@WickedMakers
This is AMAZING!!! We do a pirates of the Caribbean theme yard haunt every year and add more and more. We did the pirate fountain diy from yall last year cant wait to add this guy this year! Thank you for being awesome and showing us common folk how to make amazing props!
And genuine props to you for being brave enough to go from approving fan/ viewer, to actually trying these things!
This turned out amazing!! I’d love to see a plague doctor animatronic from scratch!😁
SAME
Awesome idea!
You know what same
@@wesleyvanos thank you!!
@@XaviHaunts 😁
I think for added effect, adding some water with some ink in it to darken it and adding a cork that sits below the lip of the bottle could create some cool motion in the bottle.
Yes!!!! Need to sort out the weight (water is crazy heavy) but definitely agree
You could put an inner layer vessel in the center and have the fluid in between the two layers. Like one of those double walled cups that have glitter in them.
I think it popped up 3 times + love the prop
@@WickedMakers You could try some kind of oil, it's lighter than water at least.
@@WickedMakers i don't live in USA can I be in the giveaway ?
You guys never fail to amaze!! The dancing skeleton popped up 4 times (including the end, 3 if you don’t).
I would call the Pirate “Captain Jack Marrow”.
Having the sword arm free to move brought so much more life to it! The whole skeleton looks incredible!!!
i’m so glad it’s halloween season cause wicked makers are going to be making amazing things
I was thinking the exact same thing!! 👻
we are too!!!!
@@WickedMakers Are you guys going to do a makeover for the dearly departed tombstone from Home Depot? I bought it and love it but feel it needs a bit of tweaking. Maybe some texture and moss....help lol.
Please make a life sized golden Freddy🙏😭
YES you came to the rescue when I was looking for something to watch I can’t wait to see what’s next for this Halloween!
🤘🏼😄😄😄
@@WickedMakers you guys did a awesome job on making a pirate skeleton animatronic ❤
I've been making Halloween props probably about 10 years and I love the skeleton. The detail and everything is awesome. Thank you for letting me a chance to watch the build. Hugs.
The pvc hip joint is a game changer, I have so many ideas for this! The little guy popped up 4 times (counting the end).
I love that you guys have transitioned to making your own animatronics! I think it would be cool if you guys did a beginner's guide to movement (what motors to use, joints, etc.). I'd absolutely be down for that!
Yes!! Thats a great idea.
Same! I would love to learn that myself! ❤
Yes, please! I’ve built some really cool static props, but I’m overwhelmed with anything electronic. I would love a beginner’s guide with animatronic props.
Guys- you have once again created a masterpiece! It blows me away how you can take these simple props and parts and transform them into something stellar, something far beyond Halloween store quality. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, your attention to detail is amazing. The flesh bits were especially clever and turned out super cool!
I believe I saw the dancing cartoon skeleton pop up a total of four times! I think the goblin animatronic is really cool functionality-wise, but I'm not sure a goblin would fit my haunt theme... if I won, I would probably try my hand at my own Wicked Makers-inspired makeover and transform Mr. Goblin there into something especially spooky >:)
As for the skeleton's name? I feel like you can't go wrong with Davy Bones 👍 but if I had to create something purely original, what about... Pirate Lackey Tarsals? Because, you know, a pirate crew always has pirate lackeys, but he's also LITERALLY lacking a leg, so he's lacking tarsal bones... too complicated? If a name needs too much explaining, it probably isn't a good name... 😅
Happy Haunting, guys! Great job, again!
thank you so much!
I love how you show the original plan and how you adapt it as the project progresses. The hair, wobbly arm, and medallion all work to give the figure extra motion. Fantastic. I think the only thing I would change would be to cut the screw threads off the fake bottle.
I fell in love with your videos and creative ideas last year and can't wait to see more! Thank you for explaining what you are doing, how and why. I've done a couple of your ideas and the neighborhood loved the outcome!! I saw the pop up 3 times
You two come up with the coolest designs...I sure hope we get to see your "haunt" for this year when it's ready...stay safe!
thanks! we did a haunt tour video last year as well. Will try to this year if we can fit it in.
I’m pretty sure he popped up 4 times? That’s if you count the one at the end- seeing as how his teeth are all painted gold, I suggest the name: “Captain Harry.” Just like the gold toothed robber from home alone! Harry!
hahah, from the wet bandits. Yes!
I love the low tech. I would really love the high tech with sounds and other upgrades.
Love this project its so cool to see the different ways to make your own anamtronics at home with pretty common items.
I so look forward to your videos. I Love your artistry and how well you guys work together.
Thank you!!
Watching this whole video was 100x more satisfying because of the adorable outro. 'SAY WICKED!' 🥰
We've watched it like 10,000 times. 😄
So inspiring! Can't wait for Halloween this year! Thank you for the inspiration! He popped up 3 times :)
Your kid is adorable! This was an awesome build. I'm glad, and thankful you guys keep in your mistakes and the recovery. It's so much better and more encouraging for us.
He popped up three times! Name this guy Saggy Bones. Love this! Looking forward to more creations this spooky season!
This came out amazing! It’s really neat to see your progress through each animatronic build. I am so impressed with what you guys have learned and in turn taught!
thank you!!
I love watchind what yall do it popped up 3 but 4 times if you count the illustration of what to look for thank you for all the great ideas
Truly awesome! Would be great to see an episode that covers the electronics such as the sound board and controller. Thanks for all the great info!
This looks great! I'm making my first animatronic this year too! A mermaid with a swishing tail to go with my haunted shipwreck haunt (complete with drinking skeleton ;) )
I’d love to see it!
nice!!!!
This is so cool! Your dedication to Halloween is real, like mine. I just, bite off more than I can chew with creative projects. Saw the skeleton 3 times.
thanks!
You guys are so fun to watch and extremely talented ! Absolutely love this!
I love your guy's creativity and how y'all can make anything out of everything!!❤
I’d love to see you guys give Spirit’s Strawman a total badass makeover. He’s really cool as is but when I saw him this past weekend I thought, I’d love to see the Wicked Makers make him creepier!
I saw the skeleton 3 times (not including the outro). Davy Bonefingers! Captain Grimjaw! Captain Skeletide! Thanks for the consistently awesome Halloween content!
🤘🏼😄
Looks like you showed me more projects for this year!! Counting the time you showed what to look for 4 times. Thank you for all the great ideas for projects!
Amazing Job!!! I will try to make my own character using this method, thanks for all the info!!!
Thanks!!!
Nice video guys ,still love the channel, i have been watching for ages and glad to see you still have good videos and humor
Thank you! We appreciate it.
Another great video from you guys! I think you should name him wicked willy! And I found 4 dancing skele dudes! One at 1:25 Two at 8:54 Three at 14:31 and Four at 19:10 keep making great videos!!!!
WOW!!! Y’all do Amazing Work!
God Bless Your Beautiful Family ❤
So good! I love that corpsing method, it's my favorite way. This turned out so great!
this prop looks professional good job
The pirate style pants from the thrift store legit look like some pants I've bought from old navy recently 😂
Awesome job guys! Looks great!
Awesome overall build!
I love it! I was shocked how a little bit of clay completely changed that skull! What a great kick-off to spooky season 🎃
You guys are getting me so excited for October already! The lunchbox idea is a great call 🤩
Great build. I love watching to get ideas and learn to build the moving parts. Your little skeleton popped in 3 times.
Turned out Great, You make it look so easy.
Three times or 4 if you count the ending.! My kids and I always try to replicate your decorations! We love everything about your channel. Great job and keep up the great work! You should name him Jonesey lol
Jonesey! Love it. 😄😄
Spooky season is approaching...... Brace urselves my fellow wicked makerians, I can't wait to see what else they have in store....... We want more, we want more. Wicked makers never fail to amaze, I can't wait!!!!!
Yet another outstanding job !!!
Looks great 3 times and 4 at end. I'm in NC and can't wait to see the rest of your Halloween stuff as we have loved everything you've done.
The skeleton popped up 3 times! you should call the skeleton Davy
Hmm maybe watch again. 😉 Excellent name though.
One time the skeleton popped up, and I love your videos
@@WickedMakerslove you guys been watching u for years❤
I’ve seen the skeleton popped up 2 times
No wait probably one time
I love how all your pirate skeletons are drunk!!!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I def would like to see the extras like the sound board. My husband and I made the witches cauldron last year and are wanting to make our own rocking chair with dummy witch and using a motion sensor and sound board would be the icing on the cake. We also love the design on the skeleton and plan to use ideas from this to add to our graveyard scene. Thanks so much for all the inspiration and look forward to more videos likes this.
I saw skelly 3 times or 4 including the end. I'd love to make this guy. Great job showing the process. You made it easy to follow.
First time: 1:25
Second time: 14:33
Third time technically haha: 19:12
Also TOTALLY RECOMMEND using the Pugatory Props Aamon Duo controller works great! And super simple to use! So excited to see how far you guys have come making your own fully custom animatronics! Been subscribed since the original resin swing video and have always been impressed since! Stay wicked! 🤘🤘
The swing!!!! That’s wild. Feels like a lifetime ago. Also you may have missed some skeletons. 😉
@@WickedMakers I stand corrected!
Rewatched a few times and I could be wrong but I believe it pops up 5 times through out the video! Also how’s Oberon haven’t seen your cute cat in a while! As for the pirate name what about “WhirlyWiper Willy: The Motorized Mirthful Mariner"
He came out amazing! I really want to start building up my Japanese Horror themed home haunt this year, so this tutorial will be great to adapt for that! And if you guys want to show the extra components, like the soundboard, etc., I would love to see more. Thank you so much!
Absolutely love the way he turned out!! I would love to have him in my collection. he popped up 3 times
Love this. I always appreciate your ideas and tutorials. My decorations have been taken to the next level ever since finding your channel. I really want to try the rotting flesh look this year!
Wow! This build is awesome! Pirate shorts are gonna be the next big thing… J is very fashion forward 👍🏻😄.
🤣🤣🤣
This video came at the perfect time! I am doing a pirate section this year, Definitely will be trying these techniques out. As for a name, I think Barnacle Bob would be great! 😂 and the Skelly guy showed up 4 times, including the outro :)🤘
awesome!!!
Love what you guiys do. I saw 4 popups. Keep up the great work.
You guys did such an amazing job
I’m so happy to see you guys growing your channel! Y’all are really awesome! I’m hoping to see you guys work on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Leatherface animatronic from Spirit Halloween! Now that would be awesome!
Have you seen the Leatherface from Halloween City? I think they might have the best option this year. So many stores have a leatherface this year!
@@ChavezRB6 oh wow! I just looked, I don’t even know they had one! It looks better, and it’s cheaper!!!
The video hasn't even started but I know it will turn out amazing as always! Keep up the good work! 🤟🏴☠️👻
Hahah thank you so much
So cool! Loved this video! The pirate turned out really professional looking!
Saw skeleton 3x plus one at the end of the video! Great videos. Super talented and great upbeat vibes!!!!❤
You guys are amazing. The painting and distressing of all the props is just next level. I miss being the prop person at a local haunt and getting to do stuff like this.
"We are going to give away this animatronic-" *pauses video* "OMG IM HOPE I WIN" *unpauses video* "to one of our US subscribers" "........."
Yeah sorry 😅 There are all kinds of laws and stuff we have to deal with if we want to give stuff away so until we get bigger just gotta keep it US.
@@WickedMakers its alright 😁
I had the same situation with The Watchtower
Thanks for the shout out to Demonground! I'm glad you liked the design, and love what you did with it. Our final prop has a lot in common with yours. :)
Amazing!! I love learning new things and that rubber cement trick was so cool. 🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡
This is awesome! it definitely gives me Sea Of Thieves vibes
Yes!!! One of my biggest inspirations. Absolutely love their style.
Hey! I was thinking you should remake an animatronic Climbing zombie ground breaker into Billy Butcherson (Hocus Pocus). I LOVE Hocus Pocus and it's the focal point of my Halloween decor....can you do some Hocus Pocus DIYs?
Yes!!!!
@@WickedMakers Wahoo!!! Cannot wait. So many choices that you would knock right out of the park. Billy, the book....LOL. I can go on and on!
Woww that flesh is AMAZING!
Awesome!! I always look forward to your videos! Great work!
love the work the wickedmakers do they ae so creative
You guys are so cool and so creative
Another awesome animatronic. He popped up 3 times. I wish I was as crafty as y'all are.
Love the idea, will be making my own version of this. I've taken idea from your other videos. Ten 👍
I counted 4 including the end one. I have been a fan for a long time though, it's crazy to see how far the channel has come! Thank you for the great videos!
I would love to see the delux version of this build. Great job as always!
Great job! I’m a big fan of wiper motors and using them in my props too. He popped up 3 times.
Fantastic, as always. You guys never cease to amaze me
Saw the skeleton 3x! This was such an excellent how-to video. I feel like I could head right out to my workshop this instant and make a similar animatronic. Thanks for all that you do!
Looks like fun to make. Love your videos. Very creative!! Saw the skeleton 3 times. 🤞
That looks so good !! I used saran wrap then hit it with a heat gun and paint it for flesh
He looks awesome. I love tips and tricks y’all share. I always learn a lot. Little skeleton popped up four times. Now to watch the rocking witch makeover again.😊
Oh wow... I just found your channel and LOVE the Zombie. I've been wanting to learn to build anamatronics, and this looks like a great place to start! I will be following for more tips and tricks!!! I saw the little dancing skeleton 4 times!!!🖤🧡🖤
Definitely learned a lot of techniques for corpsing!
wow that turned out really cool in the end as the skeleton pirate! Great work!
I always look forward to your new videos and watch them immediately. I am always excited to see what you guys will do next! Love love love you guys!!
That was great beautiful build. It was shown
Three times .
Turned out cool
Love it! Skeleton popped up 4 times, counting the explanation at the end.
I just finished adding apoxie sculpt veneers and fangs to a skeleton and I immediately wanted to thank you two for what you do. I bought the gray hair extensions you linked to - thanks for that as well.
I still need to do your Spirit Scarecrow Makeover- I plan on using some of the gray hair extensions (there’s so much!) and a well fake-soiled trucker’s hat. Thanks again.
I saw the skeleton 4 times. This is one of my favorite youtube channels, you guys are amazing!
Probably two times I saw the animatronic, I love your visds!
I always love your videos! I've made the spider and gravestones and am working on the swamp lanterns this year!
Skeletons:
One at 1:25
One at 8:54
One at 14:33
One at 19:12 (however that was the “look for this” one, not sure if that counts)
Total of 3 (or 4) skeletons
Goblins: (not sure if these count)
The goblin head in the background at 11:52
Same head in background at 14:09
2 goblin heads if they count
Nice work like always!
