Halloween 2021 is almost here!! 🎃 We make lots of DIY Halloween Props for our yard haunt and our new project is a drunken pirate skeleton with an unquenchable thirst! Inspired by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride, this Halloween decoration is the perfect addition to any home haunt or haunted house. Bartholomew “Barty” is an easy prop to build using a life-sized skeleton, a fountain pump, and a barrel. We dressed up the scene and outfitted our pirate with thrift store finds from Goodwill®.
The great thing about this project is that you can use the pond fountain drinking trick to fit in with any DIY Halloween theme. You could create a zombie drinking toxic sludge, a vampire drinking blood, or a witch drinking a magical potion.
If you'd like to make your very own DIY halloween pirate drinking skeleton , we encourage you to give this easy Halloween project a try!

Thanks for watching! You are all awesome.
Wow! This build is great. I’m pretty sure you guys are in an alternate universe where it is Halloween every day...
Love your videos
This is so cool! and next try to make a skeleton anamatronic with remote control cars!
I'm jealous that looks amazing!
love what you two make... How about making a
motion detected bell for your Grave yard scene, you know "Saved by the bell" Please keep up the great work.
"Looks like he's drinking fire [...]" That's a great idea right there... simulate a stream of fire with LEDs and glas fibers or similar light transmitting fibers.
Or go nuts to butts and use real fire 🤷🏻♂️
why not airate the liquid with propane and make the skeleton actually drink a stream of fire
@@iveeuwu I think both your ideas are pretty good, both would work!
Guess that's why there's such a thing as fire water. :)
@@iveeuwu that would make him melt
Every pump has a Head limit. Which is how high in the air it can pump a vertical tube of water. By lifting the bucket you essentially shorten the height it is pumping up.
Omg he new it!
If you laugh at how long this sentence or whatever
I don't blame you 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆!!!
This is probably the best goodwill ive ever seen. That’s a lot of stuff!
And it's really clean over there, too!
Yeah, where is this goodwill?
Really cool. By the way, the effect on the ride is actually achieved by rotating a sparkly ribbon by one end. It's mainly because real water wouldn't be that visible from that distance. Yours looks way better in the day and up close.
I was wondering why the Goodwill looked so neat and had such nice inventory, and then they said "Thanks, Goodwill, for sponsoring this video." Great project!
This is the coolest idea ever. I love how happy the skeleton looks to be chilling with his mates, drinking wine he probably looted from someone's basement.
I thought the end scene was hilarious - all his friends are just sitting casually in proper chairs around a set table and then there is Bart chillin’ in a trough. The other skeletons: “we don’t know him”.
You guys did a fantastic job! Thanks for the great video!
I don't celebrate Halloween, but I like to see people get into it having fun
Wow! So awesome!!!
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼😄
@@WickedMakers ☺🤜🤛
What a cracking channel name. 👍
Yeah it is!
Are you being sarcastic?
Oh it's that time of year! I'm glad everyone loves to celebrate my birthday!! LOL
Y'all have a far better Goodwill than we have here!
We’re lucky there are a bunch nearby us 😄
Same where I live, Goodwill doesn’t have anything good.
I thought the same thing
We built one of these for our haunt this year, and a few days ago a dad & small child were admiring our decorations. The kid - I'm guessing around 5? 6? - took one look at it and exclaimed, "That looks like the Wicked Makers!!" Now there's a dad who's raising his son right 🙂
Great job, J&J! Turned out fantastic!
first?
I kind of want to do a Last Unicorn version of this with a fireplace facade, Grandfather Clock, unicorn and Fire Bull. That sounds Halloweeny, right?
Totally!
Thats a great idea! Would love to see that!
I literally said are you going to dye the water to look like wine? then almost out of my control I started squawking like the skeleton from the last unicorn "he needs wine give him WINE." the love I have for that movie I could write a book about.
Anytime I see a skeleton drink whine I think of that film. Nice throw back.
Was about to go down the comment section just to say this! 😂 Great movie, one of my favorites ♥️
I had a similar idea to this, but thought I’d do a skeleton spitting back in to the cauldron he was being cooked in by a witch! Not sure how it will turn out, but it’ll be interesting to see. Great video 👍🎃👻
Nice!!!
You could probably have the return tube going up the path of the water flow, like with the floating faucet fountains. That way you wouldn't need to worry about hiding the tubing along the arm.
The scariest part of all this is someone actually wore those pants. You guys have such an imagination and the ability to make it happen.
Never clicked on a prop video so fast in my life. NEED.
Hahah awesome
That is so cool what you guys can make. Were d9 you get your skeletons form
5 ft Pose-N-Stay Life Size Skeleton Full Body Realistic Human Bones with Posable Joints for Halloween Pose Skeleton Prop Decoration
Awesome! I am impressed on how the skeleton was aged with the wood stain. The other two skeletons would have looked good stained as well, and maybe an eye patch on one :)
I Love The Pirates of the Caribbean Movies, especially Captain Jack Sparrow. Awesome Job you did. Looks So Cool.
Thanks!! We do too 😄
Oh heck yes! Wearing my Sea of Thieves T-shirt right now as I watch this. This is a fantastic project build
Best game!! We want to make some SoT props. The art style is just 👌👌👌👌
HI UNCLE JESSY!!!!!
I LOVE THIS IDEA SOOOOO MUCH! We actually did a Pirate Porch theme for several years in a row before we started changing it up. So we still have a ton of pirate decor leftover. I've already planned a "Sleepy Hollow" theme for this year, but NEXT YEAR I'm totally tackling this. Thank you guys for the inspiration. You're the best!
Is it sad that I have one of those Logitech joysticks connected to my PC still that I shamelessly use to play Dangerous Dave much to everyones disgust!
Dang, your Goodwill is way better than the one near me. Lucky ducks.
You must have the most amazing Good Will on the planet.
We don't have GoodWill here in my neck of Canada, but we do have a chain called "Value Village" which is very similar. That is by far one of my favorite places to go hunting for halloween decorations.
😂 I was like “THAT lil pump? Good luck!” And y’all tested it 🙏🏻🎉 so glad
Great idea well executed, but... why did you route the water tube up his arm? Wouldn't it have been better to put the tube into the bottle via it's neck. That way the tube would have been invisible. Similar to 'floating tap' water features.
Haha that’s a great idea. Just didn’t think of it I guess. You should do it!
@@WickedMakers A project for next year.... this year's project is taking longer than planned.
When I saw thisn I thought you'd thread it Up the Spine & though the arm useing the Holoness of the Skeleton to your advantage
I don’t get it :( can you explain what you mean??
@@LauraMarieGG I think they mean if you fed the tube up through the skeletons body and have the open end come out his mouth and directly into the bottle, then the water would come out of the hose, into the bottle and then run down the hose back into the skeletons mouth.
I built one of these last year, had the same issues with the too small pump and the weight of the water on the arm requiring reinforcement. Great job showing all the details.
i did to
I love this prop. It's too bad that these plastic skeletons are so expensive. I managed to snag one from Walgreens in their after Halloween sale a few years ago for $30, but most places want $50-60 for them! Mine isn't even posable, all the joints just flop around. I also managed to break the spine just moving it around. I shoved a piece of broom handle into the opening and just secured it to the bottom, so I now have a two-piece skeleton. It makes it easier to move. I also broke the thumb off the right hand, which I "fixed" by drilling into it and sticking a piece of wire into it. It's not glued, so it will pull right off if you try.
I also wanted to comment that everyone else seems to have way better Goodwill stores than any around here. In every Goodwill that I've been to, all of the electronics and small appliances, are just thrown together on a shelf and it's mostly all crap. Curling irons, VHS rewinders, battery operated candles, dirty keyboards, wireless mice without the receivers, etc. It's rare that I actually see something of interest there. They also don't have any dedicated video game/software section and you're lucky if you see 3-4 Xbox 360 games in the case up front (and they'll all be sports games).
On the other hand, all the stores here do a color of the week, where everything with a certain color tag will be half-off.
Home Depot is asking $30 for their skeletons.
As a former Goodwill employee, I will tell you why that may be. They auction off on their website anything that can be of significant value. So, any games other than sports games, or any game systems such as your Nintendo, Xbox, and Playstation systems, will be auctioned off for more than they could get for it in store. Along with laptops, computers, phone's, anything that can hold significant value. Goodwill is for profit. They are not a charity, no matter how much they may claim to be, they are a for profit company.
Walgreens is a great place for post holiday decoration sales. I've gotten two 3/4th scale skeletons for 12 dollars each (normally about 40 dollars) and a giant spider for 15 dollars (which I think was going for 50). The trick is to get there immediately after the holiday ends, preferably early in the day when everything goes on sale.
Very creative and a really fun build! Curiously in the actual skeleton in the attraction there is no liquid involved. The “liquid” is simply a small piece of 1” wide red plastic that has been twisted into a spiral and then rotated with a small motor at the bottom to create the illusion of liquid going down. It looks good from a distance with good lighting but your’s probably looks more realistic as it is!
Bart looks like several of my mates, from the Portland Pirate Fests of years gone by... and he drinks just as heavily! 😄
Yes!!!! Same haha
Home run! After a couple of years I had to replace my wire (for the arm) to conduit. It’s a crowd favorite but it always takes for ever to set up to get the bottle pouring in just the right position!
This is so inspiring! I have an old bicycle in my flower garden that I put a skeleton on and make it look like he’s riding it. Maybe I’ll have him drinking a water bottle!
Thank you for showing us your talents!
Fantastic build! Now I just need to find a skeleton…
The two of you create such amazing masterpieces. I don't see why you don't have millions of subscribers. 🤘🏼❤
Thank you! We’re working towards it. Tell your friends about us. 😄😄😄
@@WickedMakers Definitely going to share on FB. The only social media platform I use, besides RUclips. 🤘🏼❤
Even if you aren't planning to make a fountain, there are so many great tips in this video. Using tea as the base for your "wine" was brilliant! Love the way you dirtied the boots, and using both hot glue *and* Gorilla Glue to break-and-reposition the skeleton is a game-changer for me. Many thanks for posting!
I love this - seems like something I could actually make, thanks for posting! Here in Southern California our Goodwill stores don't have nearly as much cool "stuff" as yours does but yes, thrifting is always the way to go!
One thing to try different is have the hose go in the mouth of the bottle. The hose will be hidden by the “wine” flow coming out of the bottle.
I'm getting "The Last Unicorn" vibes from this drinking skeleton
They make red fluorescent pigment you can add to the liquid - would probably look really cool under a black light (you'd probably have to switch the tubing to black though).
A cool variation on that would be to place a motor on the shoulder joint. And have him raising the bottle up to his mouth, pouring the "wine" into mouth, then lowering the bottle. You'd need to cut off the flow of "wine" when the arm is lowered obviously.
Makes me think of the skeleton from the last unicorn
This here be a grand ol' project, cousin Barty looks great!
On an unrelated note, I have found that I love just looking at your shirts to see what fandom shows up - 13:22 I love Camp Camp 🏕
My wife and I just found your channel and can't stop watching. Amazing!!!
when I first saw Barty laying on the workbench you had the paint can open in front of his mouth..at first glance it looked like he was making the '0' like from that painting the scream..chuckle..
You heat up the bottle and tape the hands and fingers around the hot bottle. As it cools the fingers will remain in that position. Use a hair dryer to heat or reheat.
Really enjoyed your project and the way you guys work together
Thank you!!
Love this build! Another hack is I use uv resin and a uv light for instant bonds, restructures, and coffee grinds and water, or tea, to soak my items I need to age. Boiling water will quickly soften these skeletons for easy and quick remolding. Like you guys, 30 yrs of trial and error lol. Going to go build this guy now! ❤️thank you for the amazing build!
To explain why raising the bucket helps you first have to know a little bit about physics. Whenever you have an object that has mass and you elevate it to a higher elevation than what it was relative to the starting position it then gains what's known as potential energy. For example if you have a ball and it's on the ground it can't fall anymore because it's on the ground yet if you raise the ball then it can fall to the ground. The pump is underpowered and when you raise the bucket the water now has more potential energy that is pushing on the water going upstream and is assisted with the pump. It's like if you were to try and pull a cart uphill and you can't do it but you're close and someone comes behind you and pushes it making it easier to lift up the hill.
now that's how ya make
a HALLOWEEN prop!!!
God bless
My first thought by the thumbnail was "is that fake blood?" But this makes more sense lmao. I love this
Wow! Your thrift store is super organized and awesome!
It’s sponsored so I’m guessing that’s why
You need to give some of them some rings and such. Would the clothing get rotten over time as they are constantly getting wet and in the elements?
i have used shoe goo on skeletons and works great!!! i have found shoe goo to be the best glue for halloween props next to hot glue...
Disneyland, are you taking notes? LOL. This is perfect for a Pirates of the Caribbean Halloween Theme. You're both amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent!
When shopping for a pump for this, you need to look at its head rating. Thats how far above the input you can put the output.
Am I the only one who thinks it's hilarious to watch this video without any contact or the video
As an Art Major, I Love your Art Displays
Thanks for bringing joy to my day 🎃.
So where did you find the skeleton you used? All the ones I have found around me are the cheap crappy thin blow molded type that are only 4 foot tall at best.
I want to know too! All the ones I have find have 6 inch forearms :(
Yeah, the one thing they don’t give a link to is the trickiest part. I looked all over and can’t find a skeleton with the joints you can cut half way through.
I actually found one yesterday at my local Walmart. $29.
I wonder how it would look if kraken tentacles would wrap around the barrel? Skeleton is in the crows nest and the ship is going down, but hell might as well have a last drink. Great video. Thanks.
Pro tip. Because of what plastic is used...you probably could use Tamiya hobby cement to fix breaks like that
This is absolutely incredible I wish Halloween was celebrated more on Australia 💕💕 keep up the great work guys
This is so cool. Meanwhile, I'll have an uncarved pumpkin on my porch. Maybe.
Adding lights to it will look even cooler!
That is the cleanest Goodwill I've ever seen
Had a similar idea once, seeing it work gives room for improvement such as building it as a tipping bucket fountain to add movement to the skeleton like kicking a leg.
You guys are very clear and to the point. Very entertaining to watch as well! Bravo! Great video!
Glad to hear it. Thanks!
Make a part 2 and add lighting to this project!!!!
Reminds me of that scene from The Last Unicorn, too
One of my favorite props you guys have ever made!
Thanks Josh! 👊🏼😄
Awesome! How has Disneyland not hired you guys yet???
I think straight up water would be wiser, tea molds pretty fast.
Wow, you guys, this is unbelievable
This skeleton looks like the one that my mom bought for Halloween 🎃.
This is just fantastic. You out do yourselves each video 🎃
this remind me with that joke from the pirates of the Caribbean movie . A skeleton walks into a bar and says, "Give me a beer and a mop."
One of my first D&D campaigns featured a barbarian/undead-slayer named Bart lol. He'd take one look at this fellow and pull out his giant crossbow lol.
I offer my old torn clothes and some broken things to a friend who does projects and stuff.
I think Goodwill needs to start a section of their stores to craft, re/up cycling. I'm sure people could repurpose an old flat bike tube or worn out tire for a project.
Im so jealous of that Good Will. My local thrift only sometimes has a small selection of Halloween things but ALWAYS is stocked with Christmas stuff. It was sad going in there in September and seeing isles of Christmas everything, and only a few trick or treat bags along with a handful of random Halloween themed bits of shelf decor. And the 3 dollar speakers make me think the prices are better than my local too.
That is the cleanest Goodwill I’ve ever seen
I used to do this type of stuff for a living.
I was the luckiest fella in the world.
"We're gonna make a fountain from this pump we found at GoodWill!"
[One Drunken Sailor Later]
_"So, we bought a better pump."_
I only wish all Goodwill stores were as organized as the one you were in! It’s sooo nice!
Wow, that came out awesome!! Love you guys!
May I suggest epoxy putty for the joints. Or baking soda and super glue.
Great job! Where do you get your skeletons?
This is awesome! Totally going to make this, thanks!
Nice!!!
It reminds me of the skeleton from the last unicorn only the skeleton has real wine.
The phenomenon that occurs when you lift the bucket is the same reason water towers work and old toilets used to have the tank way up on the wall. iirc the gravitational force of the water going down helps overcome atmospheric pressure in the air side of the tube so it isnt just the motor working all that force.
I have all the stuff I need to make this in my basement! Thank god for people who are more creative than I am showing me new cool stuff LOL
This is awesome! This gives me an idea to make a blood fountain with skulls! So awesome!
If you guys like video suggestions, I would love to learn how to make a super giant jack o lantern that kids can sit on to take pictures. Thanks for all your ideas and tips!
i ain’t never seen a good will so organized
Jay: Spends the whole video breaking bones.
We recently broke our Steve Skeleton during a rafting trip. I repaired him using electric fence wire & caulking. He still bends but he stays in place, no matter his pose.
There you go!
Haha I love the solid electric fence wire. Whenever we would redo our horse pasture, we'd always keep the old and left over wire. I've used it for so many DIY projects, it's great!
Love it! Thanks for the tips and all of your Halloween DIY videos!
The imagination is strong with these two. (Wait was that a Star Wars reference?)
Very cool! I’d say the only thing else you could do would be to get white tubing instead of clear, and stain that as well so it blends in with the arm.
