Dead men tell no tales💀and the three cursed souls doomed to guard the secrets of this chest for eternity are no exception. We LOVE pirates and DIY Halloween Props and in this video we challenge ourselves to bring to life a pirate treasure chest from the epic Sea of Thieves inspired concept art created by @DaltonPenc ( / daltonpenc ! This chest is made from XPS insulation foam, EVA foam, and features 3D printed skulls and hardware. The magic comes to life thanks to glowing led eyes powered by an Arduino Uno and eerie smoke from a hidden Microfogger. We’re so happy with how this treasure chest prop turned out - it’s the perfect addition to our Halloween pirate display and we can’t wait to show it off!
If you love pirates like we do, check out our other pirate themed DIY Halloween props. We’ve got an endless drinking skeleton, we recreated the fireflies and fire windows from The Pirates of the Caribbean, and we even made a legit pirate costume for our 1-year old for the ren faire!
Thanks for watching our video and let us know if you make your own cursed pirate treasure chest!

So excited for a new upload! Keep up the good work!
Great video, Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Y’all are amazing!

Today I learned that I've seen your stuff highlighted on Instructables a loooooong time ago!
Love this build. It turned out fantastic, great job. I also really liked seeing the Halloween countdown in the background starting out at 257 days and getting down to 235 by the end of the video. It shows how much work really went into this. Thanks for sharing, and great job!🤘
Thank you! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼💀
I love that you two go through the whole process, even the fails. Your projects are always amazing! Thank you.
So many fails haha. Thanks for watching!
Watching 3D printers work is like watching a hologram materialize out of thin air. That is so fascinating. That box came out awesome. I love your Halloween countdown in the background too.
I know right? 3D printing Timelapse’s are so fun. Thanks for watching!
@@WickedMakers I don't know about you guys, but I get SO disappointed with myself that I'm no longer as fascinated by my 3D printer as I was when I first got it.
I love it, but the first few things I 3D printed were like magic -- I was like a kid on Christmas Day watching them print (and wishing they would finish faster)
Now, it's just a "matter of course" that I design something on my computer, and a few hours (or days) later, that thing is sitting on my desk, and I'm like "dude, really?!? this magic box just print out something you imagined, and you shrug?!?"
I definitely go through phases with it. 😄Sometimes I’ll discover something new and get excited all over again.
That's awesome! I'm doing a "Beloved" sarcophagus/casket for my yard display this year. Keep it up y'all!
Nice!! That sounds excellent.
That’s incredible!
This is such perfect timing! I'm planning a pirate themed home haunt this year and was JUST researching making my own chest! Thank you for another amazing video!
Nice!!! 🤘🏼💀🏴☠️
Wow this looks super cool! Now I wanna try to make my own treasure chest using your instructions. Probably not this big as I don't think, that I have enough space for it in my house. I think jewellery box sized treasure chest would be perfect for me😅
I just wish you would upload more often as your ideas are always super cool and you two are really fun to watch✌
😄😄 thanks! You totally should!
And you know... it's NEVER to early for Halloween ideas!! You guys are "simply mahvelous"!! 👏👏👏
Thanks!! 😄😄
Really impressive, it looks like a movie prop. It looks really creepy but realistic at the same time.
I like that you include mistakes that were made, it's a good learning experience.
Thank you!
A unsuspected video from Wicked Makers!! That’s a nice treat.
Thanks for watching!
Best line KRAGEN ATTACKS, Watch Van Oaks, king of foam everything, including making it look like wood, better than wood.
If you are going to create something, you should always enjoy what you do. You guys are the King and Queen of fun. Awesome job on your Pirates Treasure Chest.
Thank you so much! 👊🏼💀
seldom do i see tandem between partners and having the same hobby as this one into special effects with toys... i myself im a fan of toys like what you do..creating toys ... much more fun than buying toys from the stores... this is quite unique..and both of you are having a funtime in your creation..
Thank you!!!
18:34 Suggestion for attaching. When initially 3D printing the skull, add hollow screw anchors (The pole things you find on the inside of plastic equipment.) and self-tapping screws. If the poles are too long once you poke them through the foam, mark them and cut to fit. Easy! (In theory.)
To line the 3D print up properly, use a paper template.
Excellent idea!
Really cool haunted pirates chest. It's also very reminiscent of the Chest of Demons from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo cartoon from the '80s.
Your skill level is awesome! I retire end of April and one of the things I plan on doing is Halloween stuff around the house. Love that time of year! Been saving your videos to be able and get pointers. Can't wait! Stay fantastic, you two!
Thank you! You’re going to have a blast 😄
Best Test - paper cement ... its like barge, but clear and doesnt dissolve xps. It glues EVA to XPS and because its clear, its great for plastazote foam too.
The chest looks incredible. You got a sub from me!
Nice!!! That’s a great tip, can’t wait to try it out. Thanks for watching and for the sub! 👊🏼💀
This kicks bum! The purple plum/colour is really different, but very Halloween. I hadn't heard of micro-foggers and that's perfect for one of my plans for this year. Thanks yet again Wicked Makers!
Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼💀
That turned out great! I've been wanting one of the chests from Borderlands since the first game came out, and seeing this I actually think I could make one!
Looks fantastic. Tracking the countdown clock, was a side project lol. 25 days is a long time for a project.
Yeah that thing took forever. 😅
"Arr, me doubloons!" - A Skeleton, Probably
Yo ho ho
An upgrade option would be a magnet in each hasp with a corresponding magnetic sensor in each shackle. The Arduino can sense when either sensor activates by opening the hasp, then sequentially lights up the eyes and then starts the smoke. A third sensor can make the chest moan/scream when its opened.
I love that you show your kids. Have you started their Therapy Funds yet?
Also, cool prop. I second the idea of animating it. Surely Spirit has some kind of machinery you could abuse...
I absolutely love Sea of Thieves and this turned out amazing. Looks like it came straight out of the game!
Thank you!!
I am sooooo impressed by the quality in your workmanship in everything you do. WOW!
This is freaking DOPE you guys!!!!! How do you even begin to learn how to make all these amazing things?? I am SOOO interested in prop making and all the like, but where do I even begin? You guys are SO fun to watch, it's so wonderful how you make each other laugh!!!!! I can't help but smile when watching your videos. Thank you guys for being a massive inspiration!
😄😄😄 Thank you. Pick something basic without a lot of parts like tombstones. Start slow and build up skills a little at a time. Just starts with doing and not being afraid of messing up.
@@WickedMakers yea it's the whole "worrying about messing up" thing that gets me WAY more than I'd care to admit. It bubbles up in my painting too, but i want to MAKE COOL STUFF!!! You guys rock. Thanks for being such an inspiration!
Very cool. I’m not interested in building a pirate chest, but I will use some of these same techniques to make a coffin out of foam.
Absolutely!
So many amazing tricks and tips!! Definitely going to have to watch this video a few times just to absorb all the info. I was super-hyped to see y'all had a new video up, and it did not disappoint.
Thanks! Really glad to hear there’s a lot of value there.
Always down for piratey content! Yarr!
Yarr! Us too! 👊🏼💀
REALLY nice work on the drybrushing and washes!
I love how you guys get along so well to get it done. Awesome job on another creation!
Back with a BANG! Amazing work you guys!
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼💀
Yay my favorite RUclipsrs! I’ve missed seeing y’all’s videos. Please make more. I don’t care if it’s Halloween or not because it’s fascinating to see what you come up with next. You never disappoint.
Thank you!! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼💀
Straight outta SOT I'm in LOVE
I love your diy’s and all your content, I’m so excited for Halloween, I can’t wait 🧡
Just yesterday I checked your channel to see if I’d missed an upload! Glad to see the notification pop up!
Also, love the red hair 🤗
😄😄😄
I subscribe. It’s a win win. I get notice when they drop a new vid and they get credit for the sub, comment and like.
You two are amazing, I love to see how your ideas come to life. Literally...
That is excellent. It turned out so good. The only thing better than that is . . . . . . . . . . . . I've just realised I wasn't subscribed for ALL of your videos, just 'personalised', so I now have many to catch up on that I missed.
Thank you!! 😄😄
You 2 never cease to amaze me with your skills. Thanks for sharing
That'd be the perfect ice chest for a Halloween party! Maybe cover the XPS foam with resin for toughness and leave the bottom off so it can be slipped over an ice chest? Not sure how to temporarily attach the lid, but I'm sure it can be done.
Totally stealing that idea :D
Wow that’s one awesome treasure chest 💀💀💀👻🧙♂️thanks for sharing
This turned out so great! Thanks so much for filming these videos. So satisfying and inspiring.
Amei seu conteúdo S2
Wow! That is incredible! What an awesome build. You guys should be really proud of yourselves! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much!
You already know it looks great. Music is a nice touch.
You two are awesome builders. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! 👊🏼👊🏼
I finally made some fireflies the other night. I watched your video probably close to 20 times 😂🤦🏼♀️ but I’ve got 2 done!! 10 more to go! It’s just harder to solder with just one set of hands, but I got crafty and got it done 😁 thank you so much for the awesome videos!
Nice!!! Glad to hear it.
Such an awesome craft! It looks like it came straight out of the game! You guys are so talented keep up the great work 👏👏👏
Thanks! Much appreciated.
This is so nice!
Incredible work!
This was a fun prop you two it turned out pretty cool I like all the different elements to this project. The design for this reminds me of the chest from the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo. We have to get us a couple of those sweet little foggers.
Thanks y’all! The fog thing is amazing 😄
I just watched the 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo and this sort of resembles the demon chest, they also made a follow-up movie and the chest is in it too, really cool job!
I love it! You guys are amazing at what you do! I wish I had this level of skill and creativity ❤
AWESOME JOB GUYS! I wish I could figure out a way to make a living doing this kinda stuff! its right up my alley! I make this kinda stuff and don't. have any way to get rid of it and they just pile up.Ha. A trick I've found is if your having to squeeze the gorilla wood glue for long periods, is put a squeeze clamp on it and let it hold it for you. when your done pop the release and your done! keep up the good work.
Thanks! That’s a great tip 🤘🏼😄
Amazing build, well done!
Awesome build
Wow! What an amazing build. Great work.
Thanks🤘🏼💀
This is an awesome build I may do something like this for my Halloween this year if I am finally in my house that I am building
Thank you!
You guys always have the best ideas that a non-pro like myself could actually do! Thanks!
Amazing work you two!
🤘🏼😄
oh WOW it's fantastic! So well done. Congrats guys!
Thanks!!! 👊🏼💀
That's actually one of the higher end Aztek airbrushes, and last I knew they had a set of that with all the different tips for fine work or spatter patterns. If most of what you're doing is model work and you don't want to have to worry about a ton of maintenance, that's probably the best airbrush you could get.
Woohoo! Glad you're back. Great to see a new video again. 🌞❤🥰
Love your new set up!
Thanks Trista!!! 😀
@@WickedMakers, You're so welcome! 🌞
Great work, as usual. Thanks for making these great videos!
For part of my job, I get to make all sorts of things out of soft polyurethane foam (the stuff used for mattresses, cushions, acoustic insulation and camera cases etc.) I use another technique to measure the edge of the angled foam, that needs to be cut off to make it flat (about 3m10s into your video). Basically, when it's sitting on the flat bench, as you had it, I hold a ruler flat onto the outside edge (ie. the same angle) to find out how far it is from the bench. That shows me how deep the inside line needs to be, to cut the edge angle. The ruler does need to have the measurements right to the very end of it, though.
I hope that makes sense.
I also work with EVA a bit. There are different grades. The density and hardness of the foam seem to correlate, so the greater the density, the harder it is. Harder foam, such as EVA 75 (75kg per cubit metre: about 165 pounds per square inch) is the most commonly used. It's quite firm and it can be heated up to make shields and armour. EVA gym tiles are usually the same grade of EVA.
This Chest Is Sweet.Wow Looks So Good. Love It.
All your hard work is really fascinating to me and I love all your hard work❤❤
You guys did an amazing job. I really enjoy watching the techniques to problem-solve.
Thank you!!!
The skulls are so cool and the smoke!!
Thanks! 😄😄😄
I sit here in awe at this project, loved it
Thanks! 👊🏼💀
That's raw as heck, I'm so glad I came across your channel.
I love your work. It's amazing. The treasure chest reminds me on my childhood when i played "monkey island" or "crash bandicoot". 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you very much! Yeah I love they Monkey Island/Crash art style. Very similar to Sea of Thieves with the stylized skulls and everything. It’s the best!
Amazing. Had to share with my SoT player friend. Truly an interesting and wonderous watch!
Amazing Treasure Chest I will like to mack one, especially all the other Halloween stuff🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Marvellous work!
Thanks!
Great pirate chest!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching! 👊🏼💀
This is the first video I've seen of yours and immediately had to subscribe. This build is so cool! The skull on the front looked amazing!
Thanks for watching! Really glad to hear you enjoyed it. 👊🏼👊🏼
You guys do great work 👍👍
So cool!!!! Would love to see a part 2 where you build out the treasure inside 🤩
Yes!!!! Hahha
Love this style! SO cool! I wish you guys would upload more often. You do such great work!
We’re trying!! Thank you so much.
That turned out fabulous
Thanks!!!
This build is too gooooood!
Thanks man! 👊🏼👊🏼😄
Love all of the halloween and spooky shirts!
I love watching these a pretending I can do anything like this at home
You can! I believe in you.
Per the usual, top notch work!
Thanks! 🤘🏼💀
Awesome build!
Wow you both are amazing 🤩
Another awesome build! 🤘
😄😄😄
Loved this video, I watched it back when you posted it, and it came back up recently. I think I am going to give this a shot. Your stuff always looks amazing, great projects and great videos.
Thank you!!
@@WickedMakers Now I just have to find a place to store all these Halloween props. 😄
Wow! So awesome!!
So dope looking love the art of sea of thieves the gameplay the world the idea of pirates in general is just amazing and this is nothing more than impressive and amazing
Yes!! It has the best art.
OMG!!!!! Some how the bell 🔔 wasn't on and I missed the drop on this. I need to go back and catch up. New job has me busy so new new videos from me but as always you guys INSPIRED, CREATED another wonderful masterpiece. Love it and you guys. So amazing and awesome.
Glad you saw it! 🤘🏼😄 We got a ton of stuff coming this season.
@@WickedMakers I'm looking forward to it.
I really love how the box turned out!
Thanks! 🤘🏼💀
Great project, well done!
Thank you thank you
This is so cool! I would love to see you two make a pirate chest that glows inside and has a motion sensor that triggeres the chest to open up so people can reach in for candy. I would make that in a heartbeat but i have no idea how to even go about doing that 🤩😅
Very impressed with the chest
I always enjoy your videos. They bring the "scary" back to Halloween. I loved seeing the usage of the 3D printer for the skull. I do not own one. I liked that you gave options for other skulls. I took a look at a big box skull and decided that if I used spray foam insulation inside, it would give it some stability and thickness without weight. Just a little manual cleanup. The only other thing that I would have done is to have used leftover bones from a plastic skeleton to decorate the corners as pictured from the art concept. Might just try to recreate this project this year. Going to add your spider from last year first, then the drunk pirate skeleton. I cannot wait to see your next video.
That’s great!!! Thank you for watching.
This is the coolest make! I'd really love to make a smaller version of this! Thanks for sharing! ☠
Thanks yeah!!!
that turned out so great!!!
Thanks!
WATCHED THE VIDEO AGAIN AND YES THIS PIRATE CHEST IS AWESOME.
Super cool!
Such an awesome build and great to see a new video from you guys. You've been missed.
Thank you! 🤘🏼💀
