Ahoy Mateys! Halloween 2023 is fast approaching and we’re making a bunch of DIY scary outdoor Halloween decorations. First up is a drunken skeletal pirate animatronic inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean! This video covers a ton of Halloween DIY techniques. We start with a simple plastic skeleton that you can get at any store like Home Depot, Lowes, Spirit Halloween, or Party City. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to build a simple swaying animatronic mechanism using PVC pipe and a wiper motor. We’ll also show you how to corpse a skeleton using cotton, latex, and contact cement. This corpsing technique gives you a more decayed look vs. the more mummified skin look that corpsing with plastic wrap and a heat gun gives you. We’ll age and weather clothes from the thrift store and finally paint our skeleton zombie to make him look super scary and realistic!
This easy DIY Halloween project is a great way to dive into the world building your own Halloween animatronics. I think for added effect, adding some water with some ink in it to darken it and adding a cork that sits below the lip of the bottle could create some cool motion in the bottle.

You could put an inner layer vessel in the center and have the fluid in between the two layers. Like one of those double walled cups that have glitter in them.

Guys- you have once again created a masterpiece! It blows me away how you can take these simple props and parts and transform them into something stellar, something far beyond Halloween store quality. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, your attention to detail is amazing. The flesh bits were especially clever and turned out super cool!
I believe I saw the dancing cartoon skeleton pop up a total of four times! I think the goblin animatronic is really cool functionality-wise, but I'm not sure a goblin would fit my haunt theme... if I won, I would probably try my hand at my own Wicked Makers-inspired makeover and transform Mr. Goblin there into something especially spooky >:)
As for the skeleton's name? I feel like you can't go wrong with Davy Bones 👍 but if I had to create something purely original, what about... Pirate Lackey Tarsals? Because, you know, a pirate crew always has pirate lackeys, but he's also LITERALLY lacking a leg, so he's lacking tarsal bones... too complicated? If a name needs too much explaining, it probably isn't a good name... 😅

I love how you show the original plan and how you adapt it as the project progresses. The hair, wobbly arm, and medallion all work to give the figure extra motion. Fantastic. I think the only thing I would change would be to cut the screw threads off the fake bottle.
This is AMAZING!!! We do a pirates of the Caribbean theme yard haunt every year and add more and more. We did the pirate fountain diy from yall last year cant wait to add this guy this year! Thank you for being awesome and showing us common folk how to make amazing props!

Great job, as always. I thank you for steering away from using a 3D printer, I've been making Halloween props for 10 years, I have a lot of tools for making, but no 3D printer or vinyl cutter, those just aren't in the budget. The dancing fellow showed up 3 times, if I remember correctly. Possible names, Barnacle Bill, Poop deck Pete or Frank the Plank.

I would be very interested in seeing what you guys would do with sound effects, lighting, controllers, etc. It would be so interesting to get your creative take on the less flashy, but more atmospheric pieces of design!

There were 3 but 4 excluding the end and you should make a demogordan that when you walk by it the mouth opens using the sensor and it makes a screaming sound with the speaker or you could do a Donald Duck but when you walk up to it, it uses lighting and messes with your eyes to make Donald’s head disappear and appear in his hand being held up by his hat also name him jack sorrowed

I hope you add on to this. When you do, you will always appreciate the growth. We made a mast, and what really ties it together in my opinion is the use of sissel rope and the pulling and pinning of sails, not fully dwn... if I can attach a pic I will...also...a rope ladder off the side. Blue net lights alll around the ship, to look like water... our mast was 18 ft. I just sold my collection but miggt build a ship this year, but probably doing it two tier and not one sided, with a plank included. We'll see. My husband is the builder, I'm the designer and decorator. Also purple and amber uplighting wld look better for contrast on black, in my opinion. A crows nest with half bodied skeleton inside is mandatory...we used a 5 gal painters bucket, painted it black decorated it, it was very cool. The ship will be a huge undertaking but we are pumped.
